Description

The newest addition to Louisville Slugger's fastpitch lineup has arrived! The PXT X18 series is ready to set itself apart as one of the best softball bats in the game. Cutting edge technologies, innovative features, and memorable cosmetics combine to forge these never before seen, 100% composite fastpitch bats. It all starts with the revolutionary PWR STAX technology which evenly disburses the softball load on contact across the entire surface of the barrel for a powerful performance. With a multi-layered construction, the PXT is specifically designed to transform player generated energy into ridiculous results right out of the wrapper. Louisville Slugger has also manufactured the new lightweight X-Cap that significantly increases swing speed, lengthens the barrel, and creates a larger sweet spot than ever before. These three-piece, composite softball bats are brought together by the patented TRU3 connection piece that helps eliminate vibration while offering a luxurious feel on contact. As if that isn't enough, a premium X-Grip comes pre-wrapped around the standard 7/8 inch fastpitch handle to provide a medium tack touch with unmatched comfort. Louisville Slugger: The Most Trusted Name In Fastpitch!

This particular model, the Louisville Slugger PXT Fastpitch Softball Bat (WTLFPPX18A9), features a drop 9 length to weight ratio, a traditional 2 1/4 inch barrel diameter and a power balanced swing weight for elite hitters that want an ultimate combination of momentum and speed. Keep in mind that the PXT is approved for play in USSSA, ASA, NSA, ISA, and ISF. Pros: The new PXT from slugger is not only a beautiful product, but it has the performance to back it up. This bat, as stated, is designed for elite players that can generate enough bat speed to get the most out of this new barrel design. Players on my daughters team range from speedy slappers, to on base liners, to power hitters. The players who hit for power, my daughter included, are seeing greater distance out of this product compared with their LXT and Xeno models. Average bat speed hitters are seeing equal performance during tee work, but at game speeds are really seeing this bat open up. The design of this bat isn't going to yield amazing results when hitting off a tee or doing front toss drills...this bat shows its true glory when the ball starts coming in hot, just like in a game. I have no doubt this product will be a winner this year!

Cons: Slower swinging hitters are better off in LXT or Xeno.

Louisville Slugger PXT Proud Dad parent

Pros: Awesome power. Crazy pop. Absolutely zero sting (according to my daughter). The PXT is super expensive but it was well worth the money. I've noticed a significant increase in both confidence and performance.

Cons: Definitely takes some time to break in before it performs at a high level.

Incredible Bat 123 parent

Pros: A very hot bat once its broken in. The first 5 or 6 buckets my daughter was a bit concerned because she was hitting her dimarini a bit further but now there is no comparison. shes hit 6 over a 250 foot fence onto the road in bp where i havent had to worry about that in the past.

Cons: takes a bit to break in but its well worth the time.

Questions and Answers (9)

Have a question about the Louisville Slugger PXT -9 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTLFPPX18A9? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

What is the break in period for this bat? Or is it hot out of the box like the LXT and Xeno?
Tk
We would recommend around 100-150 swings off the tee or soft toss to fully break-in the composite fibers. Make sure you rotate the barrel about a quarter of an inch every 15-20 swings to fully break-in the fibers throughout the barrel.
John
Is the -9 end loaded or balanced?
Vol88
The 2018 Louisville Slugger PXT -9 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTLFPPX18A9 will feature a balanced swing weight design.
Cameron
My daughter has always used a DeMarini but her new team is Louisville sponsored and she is supposed to start swinging one. She uses the CFX -9 (CFF-18) model DeMarini. Do you recommend the PXT, LXT, or Xeno? Swings a 32 inch drop -9.
TJ
The 2018 Louisville Slugger PXT -9 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTLFPPX18A9 may not feature the same balanced swing weight feel compared to her previous/current DeMarini CFX model. If seeking something that will feature more of the same swing weight feel from LS we would recommend getting the 2018 Louisville Slugger LXT -9 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTLFPLX18A9.
Cameron
My daughter (5'3", 115 lbs), is currently swinging a 2017 LXT 32/22. She was a Xeno girl before the LXT. I would consider her a line drive hitter, rather than a power hitter, but she has fast hands and great bat speed. We were looking to move her into a -9, 32/23. She is interested in the new PXT, but I've read that it is built for 'power hitters'. Would she be best suited to stay with the LXT or is the PXT a good option even for someone not considered a power hitter?
Chris
The 2018 Louisville Slugger PXT -9 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTLFPPX18A9 could be used by power and contact hitters alike. Based on your assessment of your daughter's hitting capabilities the -9 model may not be the best option to consider. Would recommend getting the 2018 Louisville Slugger PXT -10 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTLFPPX18A10 instead.
Cameron
My daughter is a power hitter with a quick swing. She has the LXT -10 and hits homeruns like crazy. Would the new PXT minus 10 still have an end weight to it? I know the LXT does not. I want to keep her bat speed.
td
Yes, the 2018 Louisville Slugger PXT -10 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTLFPPX18A10 will feature an end loaded swing weight.
Dan
There is a slight movement between the barrel and handle. Is this normal in the PXT bat?
Mimi
Some Louisville bats are designed to have a slight amount of movement around the connection point once they get fully broken in, and the PXT model seems to be one of those models as well. As long as you aren't seeing any major performance drop, then it is not indicative of any defect.
Kyle J.
Daughter is small but a power hitter with fast hands. She is pulling pitches foul down LF line while currently using her LXT -10. Would -9 slow her down a bit?
Jeff
The -9 sizing of the 2018 Louisville Slugger PXT -9 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTLFPPX18A9 is going to feel heavier than the -10 which can potentially slow down a player's hands. You want to be careful here because having quick hands is a really good quality so you may want to look into more of a swing adjustment in order to utilize the whole field, as opposed to just adding weight to her bat.
Tyler
My daughter’s high school coach says it must be stamped ASA 2004. I cannot read the stamp in the pic. Is it ASA 2004 certified?
Jennifer Roth
Yes, the 2018 Louisville Slugger PXT -9 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTLFPPX18A9 is ASA certified and will have the correct 2004 ASA stamp.
Tori
I’m a college club fastpitch player. I’ve swung a (slightly end loaded) Xeno, 32/22, for years. My instructor believes I could move up to 23 oz, but I’m partial to 32” bats and there isn’t a 32/23 in the Xeno. I’ve tried a bunch of bats but haven’t been able to test the PXT. In tee work I get good bat speed and exit velocity with the Easton Ghost, and I believe the Ghost and PXT have a similar MOI/swing weight. Should I move up from the Xeno to a slightly more end loaded 32/22, like the Ghost, or move into the 32/23 PXT, which is both more end loaded and an ounce heavier, and my desired length? Or, should I learn to love a 33”, which opens up more options at 23 oz?
Nicole
Whether or not to move towards the Louisville Slugger PXT -9 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTLFPPX18A9, and its power balanced swing weight, is all up to your personal preference. Would always defer to the coaches who know your swing when looking into what weight of bat you should consider. If you are still more comfortable swinging a 22 ounce bat there is certainly nothing wrong with that but you may see better results, with regards to distance, if using a slightly heavier bat.

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
