Hitting balls off a tee or soft toss would be the best way while rotating the bat to even the break-in across the entirety of the barrel. To get a USA Baseball bat that is not a teeball model, you will have to go with the 27" length (everything that has a 26" length and USA Baseball stamp will be a teeball bat). Because of that, I would recommend looking for a bat in the 27"/16 oz size for a smaller 6 year old that is playing coach pitch.

Isn't one of the benefits of a composite bat to generate more pop and cause a "trampoline effect" once broken in? With the new USA Baseball specifications, has this effect been engineered out of composite bats making them more like alloy and/or wood bats? Dave
Yes, composite bats once broken in will create some what of a trampoline effect. The USA Baseball stamp will make it perform closer to how a BBCOR bat would perform. Typically this is compared to the performance of wood bats.

Someone of his height and weight typically use a 30" bat. The added weight may cause him to have a slower swing in the beginning. But a 10 year old usually swings a drop 10. Its natural to have a slower swing when adjusting to a new weight. Your player should be fine after a couple visits to the cage as he will get more comfortable with the weight.

Yes so this would be a very good bat for your son because it is a very high performing bat. The only thing with this bat is that it doesn't come in the 28 inch 16 ounce size that you were looking for. It comes in a 28 inch 17 ounce which will just be one ounce heavier.

For most 11 year old players, we are recommending a 30" bat. Since we will not have any 2 5/8", USA Bats that are lighter than -11; I would suggest getting a 30"/19 oz bat for him. If you wanted something a little longer and heavier to help as he grows, you could look to the 31"/20 oz size.

Based on his height and weight, we suggest a 31" bat. However, if you feel like that is a big jump, moving to a 30" would be perfectly acceptable as well. This is a suggestion based on his height and weight but the player should swing what he is most comfortable with.

Typically, baseball bats get weighed prior to the manufacturing process. I tend to see bats weighing one to two ounces heavier once that process is complete and the bat is ready for sale. Composite bats require a break-in period before game use in order to loosen up the carbon fiber materials that make up the bat. Taking a bat straight to the game has a very high risk of causing durability issues since the carbon fibers have not been loosened up at all, making the chance of cracking/breaking much higher.

What impact does the cold weather have on sting from these bats? We've heard that the Easton Ghost X Hyperlite -11 USA Baseball Bat: YBB18GXHL does vibrate quite a bit due to the one piece construction. The cold weather and hitting off the end are also things that would amplify those vibrations. We've actually heard that after quite a bit of use, the composite fibers loosen up and the vibrations dampens over time.

I have twins that just turned 8. They each weigh about 52LBS. I had bought an Easton S450 27" with 2 1/4" barrel. However, there is absolutely no pop with that bat and it has a lot of vibration. This process can take about 150-200 swings off a tee rotating the bat every 10 swings. Alloy bats on the other hand, do come out of the box game ready which helps explain the difference you are seeing. A 27" bat would be a good choice for 7-8 year old players.
