Bat cracks easily Debra Lanni Parent
Pros: Nice grip
Cons: Bat was only used half a season and it was cracked.
Player’s opinion Bryan Player
Pros: Balanced swing, great design
Cons: Busted within a year, you jam yourself a lot, grip was making blisters
CF Zen Skilz18 Coach
Pros: Some pop -more after break-in if it makes it through break in. Weight is end loaded if you like that.
Cons: Very end-loaded. Zero quality. The bat will crack, only a matter of time.
Good bat, no durability Tony O'Donnell Parent
Pros: This bat is an instant confidence booster. The ball flys off the bat.
Cons: This bat saw consistent use. After 2/3 of a 13U season. The bat suffered a structural fracture that has now left the bat useless.
The Zen is wonderful! MJ Parent
Pros: Two weeks new our 9 year old son broke his record on Hittrax and hit 71 mph 191 feet. He loves this bat.
Cons: Shows the dirt.
Best Bat Around Myles Player
Pros: Great balance and unreal pop
Cons: None
Lasted one month Andy ludwig Parent
Pros: Hot bat
Cons: Weights more than it’s supposed to and cracked in less than two months with little hitting
2018 cf zen -10 senior league bat Chad Coach
Pros: Very durable and has a lot of pop to it .
Cons: Nothing negative about this bat.
Crushing It Desiree Parent
Pros: This bat is HR power hitters must have. Just make sure u break it in and then look out. 10 yr old smashing sliders, curves, and the dreaded low inside with this bat. And it's a bargain to buy for 2019.
Cons: Depending on power of swing the grip does take skin off. Wear batting gloves and we double taped.
Bat hits a mile. 12u ball player Player
Pros: Out of the rapper the bat is better than my broken in louisville slugger 918 prime. Bat hits a mile, a lot of homerun pop The three fusion, non stinging the bat thing works good, you should have no problems with your hands stinging too bad. In 12u for me my louisville prime 918 hit a 280 shot, im very confident my demarini would have hit 310. Crazy pop, 8/10 on vibration
Cons: The bad for me hasn't had any durability issues yet but it does have a one year warrenty so thats very good. Bat stings if it hits end or inside of bat but not too bad
dinger Jeremiah Parent
Pros: purchased this bat for my 12 yr old son. he plays on a very competitive travel ball team and he loves this bat. he hits the ball hard and balls just fly off this bat, love the sound...
Cons: when they hit homeruns at this age, it causes strikeouts and pop flies…
Good bat Andy Parent
Pros: Has a lot of pop
Cons: Breaks real easy. Not this one yet but have seen a bunch break. Great bat at this price
Good While it Lasted Joe Vincell Coach
Pros: This stick performed completely as advertised...until it cracked right down the sweet spot after 2 months of bp and one 12u travel tourney.
Cons: Not at all durable. We bought this bat for the season, and now we have to go through the return/replace process right in the middle of the season.
So far so good Jeff Norris Parent
Pros: Solid bat, nice balance.
Cons: No cons thus far.
Cracked on the first swing MIke Coach
Pros: Warranty is available
Cons: Fragile
Great Bat MAW Parent
Pros: My 12u has hit his first 2 home runs (and one that would have but they were on a high school field) in his first 2 tournaments this season. This bat has great pop. The sweet spot is huge. Being balanced I think has been a huge plus, it his helped his swing path. He has used plenty of other top rated bats, nothing like this one.
Cons: Everyone else wants to use it.
2018 DeMarini Zen Schnauzer Coach
Pros: So far so good. Bought my son a 32/22. Only had it a few weeks so I can't speak for Durability. Seems to have good pop and no vibration. Price was good at $150. Will review further as we get into the season.
Cons: None so far
So far so good Tru Player
Pros: Lots of pop. Nice weight distribution.
Cons: Hopefully it doesn’t break.
Great bat Mike R Parent
Pros: My son loves DeMarini bats for their pop makes ball feel like a tennis ball and launches off of bat.
Cons: DeMarini does break but they will honor warranty but we currently have 3 Zens and won’t change.
overrated stan white Coach
Pros: little to no vibration, beautiful with attn to detail, very comfortable
Cons: pretty average when it comes to pop, bought cheaper composite bats that were much hotter than this, flexes a great deal at handle and barrel, heavier than advertised, not very reactive at contact, quiet, dead and ours is the USSSA model
Great bat for usssa Mom son Other
Pros: No complaint
Cons: No bother
Great bat but......... Charles Gross Parent
Pros: This bat is very hot and gets better over time.
Cons: Cost and durability don't match up. For a bat to cost as much as this you would think that it would last longer. order bat and busted within 3 weeks. Sent back to demarini and the replacement didn't last any longer. I would say don't us this bat other than your game days.
Nice bat JJ Player
Pros: Good pop , weight eventually distributed
Cons: Takes a few days to break in
5 star Bat... David Player
Pros: Great feeling bat... Great pop... 5 star all around
Cons: None
Good pop Brian Player
Pros: Son likes how the bat feels
Cons: First bat cracked
Hot out of the Box! Shaun Swindle Coach
Pros: Good feel. Hot out of box.
Cons: End heavy.
great bat !My sons favorite 1badimport parent
Pros: this is my boys favorite bat ,we have them all they go to this bat as their 1st choice.no vibration tons of pop
Cons: you have to live with the lack of durability .If your ok with a bat not lasting multiple seasons this is a great option.
durablitie and pop Grayson Smith player
Pros: i just got the bat a week ago and its quiet and has a wild pop
Cons: it takes a long time to break the bat in
nice bat banned parent
Pros: ready to go straight out of the wrapper
Cons: banned less that 2 weeks after we revceived it
Loved the Bat Jaden player
Pros: Once I broke the bat in, it was great.
Cons: After hitting with this bat, it started to crack and then it finally broke.
Illegal as of 5/4/2018 Joe Smith coach
Pros: Obviously hot, so much so DeMarini has again made a bat that cannot meet USSSA standards.
Cons: Illegal bat
CF ZEN Steve parent
Pros: Good Pop
Cons: Had the original and the replacement both crack within 6 months. Need to fix this issue. Will not replace another, only bought in October of 2017
bat review Michael parent
Pros: great pop
Cons: My son broke his . We recieved the 2019 30/20 last friday. My 11 year old son (165 pounds) hit 3 home runs with it, with zero brake in time . (250)ft fence . Cant say about the durability of the new bat yet. That is to be determined . but so far its great!
Robert R parent
Pros: Has good pop for as long as it will last, which isn't long.
Cons: Durability is pathetic. Bought this bat 3 months ago for a below average size 11 year old. Only hit baseballs in practices and games with it and the bat is already cracking. Absolute joke that a bat cost this much and doesn't last doing what it was intended to do which is hit baseballs. Done with DeMarinis
Junk JLUX parent
Pros: When it was not cracked it was a good bat...
Cons: Bat cracked after 4 months of offseason work.....now it is banned by USSSA. Terrible....stay away from Demarini......Customer service says they need over a week to replace with 2019.....first tournament of the year this weekend and no legal bat!
Dumarini Dumarini coach
Pros: This bat is a feel good bat I am a coach and I gave my son this bat and I gave him three balls and all of them are homers
Cons: This bat has lots of pop and durability
GREAT BAT! Joe parent
Pros: My 10 year old son loves this bat, first demarini bat hes ever had.
Cons:
Good Bat, a bit heavy Dad parent
Pros: Once Broken in, has good pop. Feels good once have adjusted to the weight. Getting around on ball just fine. If the swing is good, this is probably just an adjustment.
Cons: The 31/21 is precisely 23oz, making it actually a minus 8. Our 31/20 Mako Beast was actually 21.3 oz for reference. Too early to tell about durability
cracked bat joe sully parent
Pros: decent pop
Cons: Durability. The bat cracked after 4 months.
Great Pop, No durability Steve J parent
Pros: Pop is great, 10 year old hit 3 over the fence first 2 tourneys. Looks great.
Cons: Cracked in 3 months, got a replacement. Crossing my fingers it does not crack, because stamped "no return". Great bat, but durability is an issue. For the price, need to get this problem solved for me to buy another.
Durability Problems Mark parent
Pros: Looked Pretty
Cons: My son is 11 years old and his bat cracked after only 3 weeks (maybe 8-10 practices) just before his first game. Have had the same issue with Demarinis in the past. Poorly made.
WOW!!!! donnie baseball parent
Pros: best pop ive ever seen, cant imagine when it breaks in usually use Eastons and they may gradually get something close to this, but this is amazing right out of wrapper. a little heavy, but swings light
Cons: the durability reviews scare me, but too earlh for me to tell
Great Bat TylerAR22 player
Pros: It has great pop and is very balanced in swing weight and i love it.
Cons: It feels heavier than it says.
Get this bat... NOW. Coach Lloyd coach
Pros: My son had the Mako Beast last year and hated the vibration of that bat. so much so, he developed a fear of hitting. Within one cage session with this bat he went from fearing, to trusting, to crushing. I had to drag him out of that cage! Great pop, great feel and most importantly, great fun!
Cons: The price of this bat is absurd.
Good Bat Matthew player
Pros: The bat has alot of pop, has a great feel to it and the shape of the knob fits my hand really good.
Cons: I gave the pop 4 stars only because compared to my combat maxum the combat had a little more pop.
not -10 but more like -8. Cracked in 4 months Bianca Maples parent
Pros: Good pop, nice look.
Cons: Not a drop 10. It weighs out to be a drop 8 so it's a little heavy. However, my kid hits it well. Cracked within less than 4 months of use and he doesn't allow other kids on the team to use it and he even uses another bat for cage practice. NOT ACCEPTABLE for a $350 bat to crack in such a short time. POOR QUALITY. Would not recommend.
Hottest Bat on the Market RickS coach
Pros: Watching our 11U Travel Team use these bats, everyone is hitting farther and harder with these. By far the hottest bat out there right now. Durability is questionable, we have had one crack after a month, but the others are still going strong. Yes, they are heavier since Demarini put a sleeve/collar inside after last years recall to correct the durability issues last year and the recall. The sleeve/collar is about 1.5 to 2.0 ounces...so they will be that much heavier. Take that into account when ordering....If you can swing it you will like it. This bat has HR pop and hits it a mile.
Cons: Durability is still in question as one we had cracked after a month of game use only. Weight is 1.5 to 2.0 ounces heavier that stated.
Great bat Huge sweet spot Walker Thompson player
Pros: Huge barrel, Tons of pop, Reduces shock in hands,
Cons: Price$.
Worth every penny! Travel ball mom parent
Pros: After reviewing bats for days we bought the 29" 19oz for our 9 yr old son who wanted a bigger diameter barrel bat for his travel ball team. We are very happy with its durability and performance. It weighed in at 20 oz but not a big deal....he has no problems swinging it. He loves how it hits and so do all the other boys on his team. He has used it for about 20 games now and no issues with durability. Great sweet spot! We didnt have time to break it in before he used it but it was hot to start with and seems to be getting better every time he uses it. We are very pleased with this purchase!!
Cons: All of the boys on his travel ball team want to use it but I guess it will just help break it in faster. lol
busted less than 2 weeks levi parent
Pros: Been usuing demarni a long time. Saved two vouchers from 2017 zen which we busted one of these as well. Got one retooled one end cap flew off, got a voodoo that didnt last a cple mths busted. So reused voucher for 2018?31/21 Zen BEWARE !!! busted less than two weeks. DONE w demarni. Almost all bats have been back ordered for awhile now an 900 in vouchers no bats on stock.....an you know when you use a voucher for less value you do not get the balance. Fuming with this company and the crap they been putting out. they say no refunds. Im done with it stay tunes when money gets returned.
Cons: Junk we havent had a bat go past 2-3 months the past 2 years. No quality. 400 dollar bats come on. Just got the 2018 Zen 31-21 drop 10. had it less than 2 weeks did a little soft toss, finally got a open day to break it in a little at D-Bat. Busted 11 year old 98 lbs. 60mph. myself and all the trainers were floored!!!! brand new bat. which was good cause they also had some for demo
2018 CF Zen -10 Senior League 2 3/4" 28"/18oz Nicky Yelverton coach
Pros: My son "likes" the bat and swings it well. No complaints of vibration but it has been warm weather since he has been using it for 3 weeks. Colder weather may make a difference. I can't speak in terms of durability yet because nothing has broken. Overall this is not a 5 star bat due to weight difference and lack of pop in comparison to last years. If I wanted a -8 I would have ordered one.
Cons: it is nearly 3 oz heavy, not nearly the pop of 2017's original Zen.
1 1 coach
Pros: this bat is amazing. my 11u son loves it. his confidence at the plate has improved as well as distance when hitting. great bat all around.
Cons: price
Power Generator Coach Joey parent
Pros: Playing fall ball in Ohio. Bought this on a whim because my boy busted his go-to Maxum. Holy crap this thing is HOT! He used to hit the gaps, now he hits the fence! 10 y/o, got the 29/19. Perfect! Get one before they're gone!
Cons: Compared to the Maxum, heavier and less balanced... maybe that was the difference he needed though...
cf zen Richard parent
Pros: great pop!!
Cons: none yet
As Advertised! Fl Baseball Coach coach
Pros: Lots of pop right out of the box. My son needs a non end loaded bat with pop as he has a slower swing speed. He absolutely loves this bat, has given him the confidence I was hoping that it would. We compared it to last years CF ZEN and it definitely has a larger sweet spot when placed side by side. The ball jumps off this bat like no other bat he has used. It's better than a mako, cat 7, voodoo, combat, etc. We will see how it holds up, but I can tell you without a doubt he believes he can hit better with it. That's worth 350 to me, and can you really put a price on that?
Cons: Price, but you get what you pay for.
Very Happy Brad Keller coach
Pros: The bat looks great and feels very balanced, nothing like the retooled 2017 Zen. We have now hit 700+ balls with no issues. The ball flies off the bat, very comparable to the original 2017 Zen. My son says there is no vibration, even when hit off the end. No issues with excessive weight. We also bought the 2018 Voodoo and they both feel similar. Very happy with the purchase!
Cons: My son was not crazy about the white grip so we put a red Lizard Skin on, really makes the bat look nice!
My opinion is the best My kid is the best parent
Pros: Still the best bat available. OMG they put a collar inside it! (and they thinned the barrel walls to compensate). This is not the banned Zen nor is it the retooled Zen. It's the best of both. Get 'em before they're gone...
Cons: Haters gonna hate... My 29/19 tips the scales at 20.7 oz (that's precisely 1.7oz over the stated weight) so you could: weight it before you unwrap it and return it or exchange it for a shorter/lighter one (OMG my 11 year old can't swing a 29... (sarcastic)), choke up and inch, or make your kid bulk up over the winter...
Dang! Nam parent
Pros: Great look, SOUND, feel & DISTANCE!
Cons: Price.
Coach Noah coach
Pros: This bat is hot right out of the wrapper Demarini has done it again!!!
Cons: none yet
Still the Best CoachJR22 coach
Pros: Tons of pop just like the old Zen. You can't put a price on confidence and this bat gives my kid just that.
Cons: none
The new Zen.. Eric Pilkinton coach
Pros: We hit soft toss with it today and it sounded good and seemed hot but every bat we soft toss with sounds/feels that way.
Cons: Mine weighs in 3oz heavy and every single review I've seen shows this tank to be a drop 7 not a drop 10. Make sure your kid can handle the load. I doubt my kid can hit this bat against anybody throwing with some velocity. I weighed every bat we have today with most of them being off by less then an ounce then this stupid thing 30/20 tips the scale 23.2... Most the weight seems to be in the end. Its easily the most end loaded balanced bat I've ever seen. If it wasn't for the warranty return I certainly wouldn't own this thing.

About the Brand

In 1992, DeMarini Sports had something to celebrate. The three-year-old company had climbed a rung on the proverbial ladder of success, moving its world headquarters from a dirt-floored barn to a slightly larger metal shack. "It was a big move for us," recalled Ray DeMarini from the batting cage of DeMarini Sport’s present-day Bat Industrial Complex. "The new shop was larger, more storm resistant, and -best of all- it had a heater."
In the early days, DeMarini Sports hardly made a blip on the radar screen of softball. With no retailers and virtually no advertising budget, DeMarini grew steadily by selling high-performance bats directly to customers. While established companies made "juiced" bats for the pros and ordinary bats for the public, DeMarini focused on making one line of high-performance bats for pros and amateurs alike. This approach, combined with a passion for the sport, led to the greatest innovation in softball history - the world’s first multi-wall bat: the DeMarini Doublewall.
Released in 1993, the DeMarini Doublewall was the world’s first multi-wall bat. Like a modern golf driver or oversized tennis racket, the Doublewall had a giant "sweetspot," which allowed average players to hit like pros. DeMarini’s sales exploded, and before long opposing bat manufacturers to notice. DeMarini - a homegrown company led by a softball fanatic - had shaken the establishment silly.
To understand the rise of the DeMarini Dynasty, you need to know Ray DeMarini. A cult hero among avid players, Ray DeMarini emerged on the professional softball scene at the age of 40, a veritable geriatric among younger players. With a scientific approach to training, a batting speed of 96 miles-per-hour and a bombastic attitude, DeMarini fast earned a reputation as a savage competitor.
In June of 1987, ESPN launched a nationwide search for a hardcore player to advise on a series of instructional softball videos. When approached by producer Erich Lytle, the biggest boys in softball repeatedly spoke of a five-foot-seven softball giant—Ray DeMarini. DeMarini had mastered reflex hitting, a technique that drops the ball squarely between the infield and outfield. Impressed with DeMarini's knowledge and scientific approach to training, Lytle not only hired Ray as an advisor—he hired him as the host. Together, they produced Ray DeMarini's Reflex Hitting System, ESPN's most successful home video to date.
Having garnered national recognition through ESPN, Ray turned his efforts toward designing a high-performance bat for the masses. To accomplish this, he needed an engineer. "Not just an engineer," he said, "but a boot-strapping rocket scientist who could build an empire with pocket change." Ray's call was answered by Mike Eggiman. Having grown up on a farm, Eggiman was adept at making the most of a situation. Case in point: the company's first piece of automated bat-making equipment had the heart of an abandoned washing machine.
With Eggiman as Chief Engineer, DeMarini Sports delivered a series of industry firsts: the first multi-wall bat (Doublewall Distance), the first high-performance bat for massive players (Fatboy) and the first high-performance youth bat (Black Coyote).
In 2000, DeMarini joined forces with Wilson Sporting Goods to develop the next generation of hitting technology. Ray believed it was a perfect fit, as both companies shared a vision of developing game-enhancing equipment for avid players. What’s more, the companies had complimentary products: Wilson was the leader in gloves, balls and protective gear, while DeMarini made the world’s finest bats. According to Chris Considine, Vice President/General Manager of Wilson Sporting Goods: "The thing that struck me most about DeMarini was their passion for sports and their true competitiveness.
Within a year, DeMarini unveiled the industry’s first concept bat, the $35,000 F1. Secured under lock and key at the DeMarini Bat Industrial Complex in Hillsboro, Oregon, the F1 served as a technological storehouse for future products, including DeMarini’s landmark Half & Half system.
In December 2001, 12 years after the genesis of DeMarini Sports, Ray DeMarini died of cancer in his Northwest Portland home. He was 55. The next summer, the Portland Metro Softball Association paid homage to the “King of Softball” with the dedication of Ray DeMarini Field. Formerly known as Delta #1, the field was DeMarini’s favorite place to test bats during the early days of business. Ray DeMarini—bat maker and player extraordinaire—was remembered for his high-performance softball bats and unwavering encouragement of everyday players. Today, a 40-foot sign announcing RAY DEMARINI FIELD graces the outfield, and an interpretive display chronicling Ray’s life greets players as they register for games.
More "Insane Dedication to Performance" is in store for tomorrow.
