Pros: We just recieved the -10 2019 cat 8 this week. We actually bought a lizard skin grip for it. That will not be needed to be honest right now. The grip is extra tacky and perfect for my 9 year old hitter. His team currently uses poseys and cat 7s religiously. The bat sounds like it had just the extra pop that he has wanted. Watching him swing it over and over and hit after hit it seems to be the better version of the cat 7. He claims to have less vibration compared to the 7. We are about 100-125 pitches in on it so far and not 1 dent so far. This weekend will be the true test for the upcoming tournaments. He was switching from the cat 7 to the Rawlings quatro composite. He has since dropped the quatro and has focused on hitting with this bat exclusively. Great bat and great price that doesn't dissapoint.
Cons: None so far
Pros: Bought the 29/19 for my son. I also have the CAT 7 29/19, which is a great bat! The CAT 8 has a more gradual taper giving it more surface area. The CAT 8 is just a tad bit heavier feeling than the CAT 7, but you would have to really be trying to notice the difference to tell. We Love the barrel! As far as size and taper, it fits between the old green Hex bat and the CAT 7. The sweet spot is insane! Really big sweet spot. Ball speed feels about the same as the CAT 7, but with a larger sweet spot. The bat looks good and should be durable.
Cons: None so far
Pros: Awesome bat!!! My son had 2018 Demarini CF-Zen and this Cat 8 has so much more pop. He had hit a home run with his buddies a Cat 7 so we bought him this Cat 8 and has just as good pop if not better than the Cat 7. Everyone on his team uses his bat.
Cons: none
Pros: Bought a 29/19 for the grandson and he loves it. Really good pop and distance with his first few swings. We like the sound when the ball hits the bat. NO complaints of vibration after 2 weeks of practice! Worth the price. Get one!
Cons: All the kids on the team like it and want to use it.
Pros: So, I am not one to spend much time on a computer, but I do feel that I owe the Dad's out there who are looking for the right bat that enhances your son's ability to reach his top performance. Well Dads, search no further....this is the bat that will take your son to the next level. We have been Marucci loyalists for the past 3 years. We have put away the Eastons, and the Louisvilles since he started swinging his 18/28 Hex Alloy bat thru his 8U, 9U, and 10U seasons (Great Bat!). Just last weekend, we took it out to the ballpark to hit balls to see if he can put it over the outfield fence. He was line driving them, but either one hop or two hops into the fence. Well, it was now time for a new bat to kick off the 11U season.I read the reviews on Just Bats...and ordered the 19/29 Cat 8. Ordered it and we hit the field this Saturday morning. I pitched first two pitches, both one-hop over the fence. The third - he went YARD!!!! We have officially retired his Hex Alloy.
Cons: NONE - CAT 8 ROCKS...looking forward to the fall season!!!
Pros: Bought this for USSSA ball this summer. The boy loves it, tons of pop, gets a lot of attention because it's LOUD
Cons: Not really a con, but true story: First time in the short cage my son hit an absolute missile into my right temple, knocked me out cold!
Pros: For the last 3 yrs we have watched kids hit with bats and have looked at reviews and have bought and played with Combat Vigor, Rawlings Velo, and Adidas Aeroburner Alloy. My son loves all of these with the Aeroburner being the hottest...until now. The Cat 8 is a solid notch better and my sin smiles ear to ear. He is 12 and a leadoff contact hitter of thinner size with a great swing. This bat hit on the sweet spot smokes the ball. Low vibration to hands. Great bat. We bought 30/20 size. Worth the price. This is the priciest bat we have purchased but priced better than other brands.
Cons: Light color scuffs up easily but can be cleaned.
Pros: Previously bought the F5, which was a great bat (especially) for the price. Decided to spend a little more for the next bat and went with the CAT8. While the F5 definitely has good pop, the CAT8 seems to just a bit more. Where this has seemed to translate is in actual games where my son seems to be generating more pop on balls to the gaps. Also, from what I've seen, my son is getting less sting from this bat that the F5 when it's not squared up off the barrell. In summary, the F5 was a great bat (especially for the price), but the CAT8 seems to be worth the additional price. For what it's worth we've had nothing but great reviews for Marucci.
Cons: None so far.
Pros: Pop for days, balanced swing weight, the bat just begs to hit hard laser beam gappers! For a one piece aluminum there is virtually zero sting on mishits which is pretty amazing on it's own.
Cons: My son (75 pound 11 year old) has already dented 2 of these. The first one was after 1 tournament and the second one was after 2 tournaments. He doesn't use them for BP or even warm ups, GAME SWINGS ONLY! Makes zero sense. I would suggest if you have this bat to roll it through your hand, you can't really see the flat spots but you can certainly feel them. Now I have to send this one into Marucci and wait. LAME
Pros: Composite bats have a brief window where they are exceptional. The Marucci is durable and reliable. The ball jumps off my son's bat as well as it did when his Zen was broken in and before it broke. It's also less expensive which is appreciated. May son loves it.
Cons: None so far. It is very loud in an indoor cage, which the kids prefer.
Pros: My son's entire 8U East Cobb team uses this bat. Amazing pop, we're seeing 1-1.5mph higher exit velocities (Hittrax) with this bat over the Cat7 and definitely higher EVs with this over anything else in the category. We also own the Cat Composite (more expensive) and maybe it's not broken all the way in yet, but still the highest EVs with this regular alloy Cat8. You're costing your son some performance if you buy him anything else.
Cons: Not quite as big of a barrel as the Cat Composite, slightly less forgiving on miss-hits, but more power so far.
Pros: My 12U son has been using a 30-20 2019 CF Zen and he loves it. We are transitioning to a 31. He has been using a drop 8 CF Zen in BP since September and he as done well with it. But thought it maybe prudent to get him a 31-21 to start out the spring, but did not want to drop another small fortune on a composite bat. So we settled in with the 31-21 Cat 8. In Bp last night he used the new bat and he liked it, he has always complained about vibration in the past, even with his Cat 7 with AV knob. Not one complaint last night. So today we measured exit velo off the Tee on his three bats; his average with both CF Zens was around 60-61. The Cat 8 to my surprise was 66-67. Thats impressive to me. He likes it, I think he may have found his new favorite bat.
Cons: None so far.
Pros: This is a great bat right out of the wrapper. Tons of pop and awesome sweet spot. The grip is super sticky, but it will wear off once it is rolled around the batter's box a few times. My son has been hitting this every night for the past 2 weeks and he still has a smile when he crushes the ball. He plays for a travel team and most of the older players and showcase players all have this bat (plus a few others), but I can say that all of them grab this bat first.
Cons: My only complaint is that I didn't get the Cat 7 last year.
Pros: Bought this for my 11 year old son. He absolutely loves it. He said he loves the feels of the bat. I can see that this bat has more pop then his other bat. I wasn't sure if the handle was really going be a big difference with the vibration but my son said he hasn't felt any vibration yet and this is coming form a kid that ALWAYS had to have the rubber knob for vibration, he has not used it with this bat so far.
Cons: haven't had any yet
Pros: My son is 9 soon to be playing 10u travel this spring. Purchased this bat about one month ago so no real game situations yet. However, he is absolutely crushing this ball with his instructor and at indoor practice facility with his team. He says he loves this bat. One of his teammates has already asked to borrow it at practice
Cons: None so far
Pros: This is my first time reviewing a bat. My son is on a 12u travel ball team in Tampa FL. We recently purchased this bat and the first weekend my son used it he hit his first Over the fence HR. After my son hit his HR a few other kids used it and another kid hit his first HR. Our team now has 4 of these bats in different sizes and weight. Buy it. You will not regret it.
Cons: White color shows marks
Pros: This bat has made all the difference. We bought another well known bat also about 280.00 and all he got out of it was pop ups. Since he has started using this bat he was instantly his favorite. We will ALWAYS invest in a Marucci!!
Cons: I have nothing bad to say about this bat.
Pros: This bat is hot straight out of the wrapper. Big 8yo son (59" & 100lbs) was moving up from Easton Ghost X Hyperlite (29/17) to something a bit bigger (30/20). We looked at and tried almost all high end bats on the market, but he felt most comfortable with the balance of this Cat 8. The Ghost X was a composite so I was worried about stinging on mishits. After many cage sessions, he has not had even one stinger. He raves about how much better it feels than his Ghost X. Sound is just right and he now has more confidence at the plate than ever before, which is half of the battle for travel ball at his age. Same kid, same swing, and balls are traveling significantly farther than before. It is not a cheap bat, but at this price point, I would argue that you won't find a better bat. He has recommended this bat to everyone who is willing to listen. No issues with durability so far, but just getting started on the season, so only time will tell.
Cons: None so far!
Pros: Good cool weather bat . Bought the bat because of cool weather affecting his composite bat. In season opening double header he went 5 for 7 with a walk off dinger and 7 rbi’s. Don’t think the homer would have carried in the cool weather with a composite bat.
Cons: Don’t know yet. That’s why I gave it 3 stars for durability. My grandson has only used it for one bp and two games.
Pros: Good feel kids pick it up and hit smooth quickly. Has good pop out of the box. I've always been a composite bat coach. This bat will work will for the team.
Cons: If anything lacks distance just by a few feet over some composites I have in the bag.
Pros: Looked like a ton of pop
Cons: After 10 swings with official league baseballs the bat has at least 3 dents. One is a flat spot. My son is a 95 lb 11 year old and is pretty disappointed. I don't normally do bad reviews, but I got this bat because of all the great reviews. I know either just bats or marucci will make it right, but another of these bats will not be good enough.
Pros: Best Pop out of any USSSA bat on the market. Our 9u team has used them all and we still use cat 8 and cat 7 exclusively good grip and padding on handle boys like the way it sounds on a hit over CF zen fit and finish is outstanding
Cons: grip tape starting to come loose after a few weeks, but we will replace with lizard skin before tournaments this summer anyways.
Pros: This bat actually has pop. My son has 3 bats in his arsenal. A CAT-7 (about $180), a Zen($350), and this Cat-8. Both the other bats are decent, but the Cat-8 is worlds above both the others and priced about in the middle. Since this bat was bought half the kids on the team hit with it. The sweet spot is almost from the taper to the end. Definitely the best bang for the buck.
Cons: Not USA approved.
Pros: Huge pop, very low vibration, excellent balance. After 5 seasons with Easton, and 2 broken bats, we tried the Marucci. Wow. tremendous pop. My son loves it, and now a ton of kids on the team have started to share it. Glad we bought it.
Cons: does not come in a -12 version.
Pros: bought new cat8 last week. use for Labor day Tourney. my son had 1st 3 runs HR. good pop. no vibrate. feel good. feel much confident to hit the ball. Average .444 on first Tourament so far. hit 4 out of 9. i am a parents , very happy to see him hit ball well. ready for new Cat8 year 2020 if come out next year. finaly he got the right bat .
Cons: Happy
Pros: My son used at -10 30/20 for age 13 Select. By the end of the season he had cracked it but it still performed even cracked. Marucci replaced it and we are on to next year. I research and buy bats for my son to try. By far this bat not only has best sweet spot, low vibration and best pop of anything in this price range or higher. If Marucci keeps this up I don't need to research or buy anything else. Love this bat. Don't change anything on quality or price Marucci, you are cornering the market. Thanks.
Cons: White wears rough, wish it was red like the Cat 6.
Pros: Power out or wrapper, balance, and huge sweet spot! My son is 8 and plays 9u travel ball. He swings the 28-18 and consistently hits solid line drives. He is on the small side but because this bat is so balanced, his contact has improved. I coach the club team and Nearly my entire roster swings CAT8’s
Cons: None
Pros: Tested and unparalleled pop. I have HITTRAX and have tested this against other bats and the exit velo and distance is a huge difference. I’ve been buying since the CAT5 series and never find a better bat. Always searching and testing but never find one. This bat had a 6 mph higher exit velo than the new 2020 axe avenge and had a max distance of 49 foot farther. My son probably has over 12k swings on this bat over the last year. It’s still hot and hasn’t lost pop.
Cons: Vibrates pretty badly. Get a lot of stingers compared to other bats. Mostly off higher velo.
Pros: My son loves this bat has alot of pop. He does get hand stinger once in a while. Otherwise the bat is awsome
Cons: My sone has over 500 swings all practice the bats does have some small dents now. We have another cat 8 to use while we send the dented one back for warranty. Mariucci will only warranty the bat once .
Pros: Just got this bat for my 11 year old playing his first year of travel ball. After using a USA baseball bat for the last 3 years, this bat was very much appreciated. It has great pop and a nice big sweet spot. Vibration is minimal even for balls hit off the end or the handle. The bat also has a distinct loud “ping” and teammates usually take notice when you hear it. About half of the players on my son’s team use the CAT8, so this is clearly a very popular bat.
Cons: This bat has been used quite a bit in just 2 weeks as we have a batting cage at our house. There are a couple of small dings and the bat has only been used to hit real leather baseballs. I’m not sure about the durability, but time will tell.
Pros: Bat is balanced and has pop. No worries of cracking like composite bats. Third purchase in the CAT family the last couple of years. Each bat purchase was for different size and performance is repeatable. Players on team swing bat with confidence.
Cons: None.
Pros: The ball seems to jump off the bat compared to USA bats and even other USSSA bats, ie, distance in hits has been 10-20 feet farther compared to other USSSA bats. It seems durable and solid so far. Need a little more time to gauge true durability. Swing is balanced and player really likes it. No complaints regarding vibration. Went with a 29” for an average-sized 9 year old even though usually uses a 28”. The extra length hasn’t been an issue.
Cons: Price
