Pros: The bat is good. The sweet spot is small but when you hit it, the has a lot of speed. The bat does not have enough pop to hit the ball 200+ ft. But it hits good line drives. It stings when you don’t hit it one the sweet spot.

Cons: I needed to but this bat 2 times because it broke. It’s not durable. In one little league, 5 of these bats broke in the same division. My bat was in 2 pieces. Literally. 2 pieces. I got jammed and it snapped.

Pros: True weight, nice and light, unlike last year's USA bats/HUGE extended barrel/Kids have hit several on the end and no sting, definitely unlike last year bats/Really good pop, even out of the wrapper-we hit a couple buckets off T and a couple buckets soft toss before live, it hit's solid and I'm sure will get even better as it gets broken in/Bought a 29" for my 9 year old and a 28" for my 7 year old-both really like their bat-said they prefer these over their USSSA bats and will even use these for summer travel ball

Cons: Obviously, the price is high. BUT I truly feel that this is the best bat and would have had regrets if I went cheaper just because of that. I'm sure we all want our kids to have the best opportunity for success and this bat is the best bat for that. Would have given a 5 for durability but haven't had it long enough to rate.

It is always best to swing the heaviest bat that a player can comfortably handle. A general recommendation would be to use a -10 bat, like the Easton Ghost X Evolution -10 USA Baseball Bat: YBB19GXE10, up to 12 years of age and if a player is in 7th or 8th grade you would want to use a -8 or -5 model such as the Easton Ghost X Evolution -8 USA Baseball Bat: YBB19GXE8. With that said, the -8 Ghost X will certainly feel heavier with the added weight as well as the pro balanced swing weight design. As for length to get, based on your son's height and weight we would recommend a 31 inch.

My son is 5 foot, 82 lbs. 12 y/o turns 13 in April, and will be late in terms of maturity. Great hand-eye, but light, and he's currently in strength and speed training Is this the right bat for him or does it make sense? I was leaning toward a -8 in this model, but did not want it too heavy where he would fight getting through the zone. Most kids his age are hitting -8 or heavier. Eric

It's easier for us to recommend a length of bat more so than it it is the weight simply because strength and swing efficiency is harder to gauge through a Q&A format like this. The teenage years are also tough since maturity can make kids outgrow bats quickly. However, I would probably say that for now a -10 is the safe bet given his size.

This is more an Easton two piece bat as a whole question. Is it a common issue for these types of bats to crack/break at the barrel whenever a pitch is hit off the handle? We have had two in the last year do this. Are the two-piece not made to withstand that kind of impact? Erik

We have not heard of an issue regarding the Easton Ghost X Evolution -10 USA Baseball Bat: YBB19GXE10 and, more specifically, durability issues from a baseball hit off the handle. With that said, there is always going to be a greater risk to the bat the further a ball is hit off-centered of the barrel. End caps can certainly break from a baseball hit off it, as can a handle or thinner part of the barrel experience cracking or denting.

We suggest 200 swings off a tee, rotating the bat a 1/4 turn every 10 swings to loosen the fibers around the barrel. Then move the bat to soft toss for another 100 swings. We recommend this process before the bat sees live pitching.

Since a USA bat, like the Easton Ghost X Evolution -10 USA Baseball Bat: YBB19GXE10, will have a thicker barrel wall design, it would not be surprising to hear the bat sounds more like a wood bat. When you factor in the two-piece composite design of this bat, this will also play a major part in the sound of a wood like bat. A composite bat gives off more of a "thud" type sound. Overtime, as the composite barrel begins to break in, this sound may alter slightly.
