Pros: We purchased this bat due to it being balanced so my son can continue to get better at hitting. The price was what we were able to afford, so that was a plus but boy did we get what we paid for.

Cons: I have photos, but am unable to post them, but this bat snapped right in half just above the grip. I purchased it Jan 20, 2020 and due to COVID on have a month of practice on it. Well, it just snapped in two while my son was at bat during a tourney June 13, 2020. I CANNOT tell you enough to be wary of this bat and company, as I have NEVER seen a composite bat snap it half.

Pros: We bought this bat to transition from a -10 to a -5 and had no issues. My son was swinging this with no issues almost immediately. We've really liked the bat, it looks good and has good pop.

Cons: People sometimes say it's a softball bat due to the larger than normal barrel.

Pros: My son is in the process of transitioning to middle school baseball and learning to swing with a drop -5 bat. This bat is durable and lightweight making this transition very easy . Have had great experiences with Combat bats over the years .

Pros: Seems like an average bat. With a barrel this large you would think the sweet spot would be larger. Maybe it’s just this single bat but there are dead areas on the bat. The drop 11 was awesome. This-5 is average.

Pros: Has that typical Maxum usable barrel, great pop! Good feel for hitters like my son who appreciates the feedback, but not horrible vibration. Good looking bat. Haven't had it long enough to tell how durable it is. Have used it a good bit to contrast it not being durable and or having poor quality. Super light swing weight.

Pros: Balanced feel. Huge sweet spot. Pop out of the wrapper. One piece composite. Very low sting and vibration.

Cons: None yet. My experience with Combat has been that they are at the top of the pop spectrum but aren’t going to last more than a couple seasons under heavy use. They have been bought out by Easton so I’m not sure how that might affect the warranty or the future of the combat bat availability on the market. But the fact that Easton wanted them out of the market should speak to their quality as Easton clearly saw them as a threat.

Cons: It broke in the first tournament my son used it in. It had about 200-300 practice /cages balls on it before he broke it on a foul ball off the hands. The bat was 5 days removed from the box.

My experience with the Combat Maxum Jaxon Sadler Player

Pros: when you first get the bat it is really good and has a ton of pop. I was hitting really good and out of no where I could hit the bat out of the infield

Cons: I got the bat in february of 2019 and as of june 10th 2019 the handle broke and the bat is now bent and not usable.

Pros: The bat has a lot of pop straight out of the wrapper. My son loves this bat and several of his teammates use it as well. He has always preferred Easton bats and the Combat Maxum us very similar to the Easton. The bat is well balanced so if you are looking for end load I would look at other bats but if you prefer balance this is the bat for you. I've read reviews about vibration but if you square up to the ball as you should there is no vibration. My son has mishit some balls and had little vibration but I believe if you feel some vibration with a mishit ball you will learn to prevent it and square up to the ball more. I am not a believer in looking at home runs when hitting, I always look for hard line drives and this bat works well for that. The ball comes off this bat very fast.

Good So Far for a 13U Bat Aaron Parent

Pros: Large sweet spot and good pop once broken in. 13U player preferred a Ghost X Evolution over this until the Easton broke. He likes this bat alot now that he's actually using it and several teammates have started using it too. Nice balanced swing weight, it's right at -5 on a kitchen scale but kids say the 32" bat swings like a shorter bat.

Cons: Barrel is really long, looks like a softball bat next to other bats. Can't comment on durability yet because it sat in the bag until 2 weeks ago.

Cons: Playing a tournament this weekend and the end cap exploded again on our second warranty bat. This is a great bat and there is a simple fix by going back to the old end cap. For what ever reason they changed to a brittle plastic end cap is beyond me. What a shame!!!

Actually a Vigor Jason Hutchinson Coach

Pros: Like the -10 "Maxum", this is actually a Combat Vigor with Maxum pained on it. This means you lose 1" of barrel off the 32" bat, 1.5" off the 31" bat, and 2" off the 30" bat vs. a true (2016) Maxum. Extremely light swing weight though, it literally swings lighter than some of our -8 bats. Durability is still to be determined for us, but like any high performance bat, using in warm temps only will extend life.

Cons: Fair amount of vibration for such a heavy bat away from the sweet spot compared to 2 piece bats, but entirely tolerable and gives good feedback to the batter. It's not "hot" out of the wrapper, but I've never seen a composite bat that is. It takes a while to break in the whole barrel simply because there is a lot of it, but that's as much a pro as a con.

Cons: Bought the bat in Feb. During the first game the end cap busted. Bat was less than 2 weeks old so justbats exchanged it. Now it's April and we are having to return it AGAIN due to a giant crack in the end cap.

2019 Combat Maxum -5 Tracy Parent

Pros: Great pop, great feel, durable and great price. My son loves Combat bats. After little league, he started with a -8 Combat, moved to the -5 and now swinging -3 at age 13. He hits the ball long and far.

Pros: 1st pitch out of the wrapper flew past me just giving me enough time to duck behind the L Screen. We had to stop for a quick second and rethink how far we are putting the screen back. Lol ball jumped off the bat and you actually heard the wind cut through the laces on the ball.

Cons: Yes you miss a pitch towards the end of the barrel you will be reminded of the good old days growing up when bats stung

Pros: I was a little worried going with this drop 5 because it seemed to be a big jump in oz. from his previous bat, but he loves it! He is 12 1/2 but he is a strong kid with a quick bat speed. After his 1st couple of try’s with hitting he said “this bat and I will be crushing it this year”! He loves the black and white as well.

Unfortunately all reviews on bats, like the 2019 COMBAT MAXUM -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: SL9MX105, are consumer generated so if there are no reviews for a bat then that just means nobody has taken the time to submit a review. At this point that would not be uncommon on a newer release bat like the 2019 COMBAT MAXUM -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: SL9MX105. As for how this bat compares to the 2018 version, these two bats are almost identical in all respects minus the colorway change.

At the 13U level, a player must use either a -8, -5 or BBCOR bat. The COMBAT MAXUM -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: SL9MX105 could be used at both the 13U and 14U levels.

The COMBAT MAXUM -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: SL9MX105 is a one-piece all composite with a balanced swing weight while the Ghost X is a two-piece all composite bat with an end-loaded swing weight. The Ghost X will offer better vibration control as the result of the two-piece design as a two-piece bat will flex on contact. This flex may slightly reduce the exit velocity of the ball off the bat though.

The Ghost X -5 bats from Easton usually feel a little heavier toward the barrel. I would usually recommend that bat for a power hitter due to that feature. I have found that this 2019 COMBAT MAXUM -5 USSSA Baseball Bat (SL9MX105) and past models of the -5 MAXUMs have felt a little more balanced. This MAXUM could definitely be used by both contact and power hitters since it has a pretty balanced feel to it.

Since the COMBAT B2 has yet to be released, we would not be able to offer a comparison between it and the COMBAT MAXUM -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: SL9MX105 as this time. Most likely early next spring we would have a better indication on the soon-to-be-released COMBAT B2.
