Pros:  I bought the 28/18 for my 7 year old who was swinging a 27/17 Slugger 517. The bat is very balanced with the unique composite end cap and the pop is amazing. The difference in pop from the 517 to this bat is unbelievable. This bat really puts the ball out there when we did the side-by-side comparison and it didn't have anything to do with the additional inch in size. My son loves how loud it is as well. Great bat to bridge kids from the Jr. big barrel to a higher level Sr. league bat. Best aluminum bat I've bought in the last 5 years and with 2 boys, I've bought a lot.

Cons:  Sting from this bat on mishit balls is more pronounced than on previous easton and Louisville bats we have owned but not enough to concern. My son didn't like the grip that came on it so we swapped it out with a lizard skin an he is happy now. The grip was good, but is very thick and made it harder for the 7u player with smaller hands to grip. That switch likely contributed to additional sting, but had to do it.

Pros:  I got the bbcor version for my younger brother and he had great review and experience, so decided to get my son one as well 28/18 (he is a 7u/8u player). we are a marucci family, loved the cat 6&7 but this bat really put the cat 7 to rest. great balance and pop. rawlings did its thing with this one

Cons:  the grip

Pros:  My son is a 11u travel player, 5'3" 100 pounds, tall w long arms. He felt more comfortable with the 2 5/8 with the thinker handle for his big hands. Couple of our power hitters went 2 3/4 with the thinner handle. College players at a pro shop/training facility recommended this last year as having the best combination of balance, speed and pop. It's true, the kids love these bats and the performance is really good.

Cons:  1-piece, little sting with mis-hits, not sure on durability let, very stiff but the performance is outweighing the feel for our boys.

Pros:  Only had this bat for about two months so it's hard to tell about durability but we just switched from the 2015 "5150" and it was still in great shape, just outgrew it. Really good pop and is really loud when it hits the ball which I feel can startle the defense just a little bit as a bonus. Lol. I use it some to hit grounders and fly balls in practice and it seems well balanced. Already had a couple of parents order one for their players.

Cons:  None so far.

Pros:  No one in our area has one but my 10 year old grandson. I guarantee I will see more now. He said it immediately felt right in terms of look, grip and swing feel. Used it to practice for 1 week before tournament play. 1st games had great results. Exit velocity seems intense. Comparative cost with other bats of Velo caliber is a plus. I spoke to a vendor who has great knowledge of the bat before the purchase and he said, "Get the Velo for your grandson and he will thank you for it." He already has.

Cons:  None yet. Only 2 weeks in. I can't comment on durability although I have not heard that there is a problem.

Pros:  very light swing weight. son had been using combat but i wanted to go to alloy. 10u contact hitter. he sisnt all of a sudden start hitting dingers but he started hitting harder hits. went from batting 6&7 to 2nd. for a smaller kid i would definately recommend this. lightest swing weight out there and i tested 12 different bats. love the soundnof a solid hit.

Cons:  the barrel doesnt look as long and isnt compared to others. main reason is handle is thicker to get swing weight down. grip isnt as good as others preference wise. put a thick lizard skin on. son hasnt complained about the sting much at all

What is the difference between the SL7V10 and the SL7V34? Is it just bat barrel size or is there other differences?

The main difference between the 2017 Rawlings VELO Senior League Baseball Bat: SL7V10 (2 5/8" barrel) and the 2017 Rawlings VELO Senior League Baseball Bat: SL7V34 (2 3/4") would be the barrel size. The 2017 Rawlings VELO Senior League Baseball Bat: SL7V34 will have slightly thinner barrel walls. This will allow the bat to have more pop but can have greater durability issues and best with players 11 and younger.

Need an expert opinion. My son plays 10U travel ball for BPA and USSSA and I am in the market to get him a decent bat. He currently has been using the Miken Freak 2 3/4 (Black and green) for the past 2 yrs. Great bat with good pop but it was discontinued a long time back. In fact one of our kids has a Demarini CF8 that I would put his Freak up against any day of the week. However he is ready for a new one I think. I like the Rawlings and have seen good performance from them in the past (awesome sound). The only negative thing I have ever read or seen is some dent easily. I noticed you guys have lowered 2017 prices. So I am interested in two drop -10 senior 2 3/4 models. One is the Velo SL7V34 and the other is the 5150 SL7534. Can you tell me what is the difference and which is the better performer in your opinion? Are both subject to dent easily? Thanks for your help!!

The difference between the 2017 Rawlings VELO Senior League Baseball Bat: SL7V34 and the 2017 Rawlings 5150 is the type of aluminum used and the Velo features a composite end cap. The composite end cap will create a more balanced feel over the Rawlings 5150 and the Acoustic Alloy will feature higher performance than the 5150. All in all the Rawlings Velo is going to be a higher end bat. We have not taken many warranty replacements for denting on either.

How does this compare to a 5150?

The 2017 Rawlings VELO Senior League Baseball Bat: SL7V34, when compared to the 5150, are very similar bats. How does the Velo compare to the Marucci Hex Alloy? Which bat bat will feel lighter in a drop 10? Lastly will the 5/8 feel any different in swing weight form the 3/4?

The 2017 Rawlings VELO Senior League Baseball Bat (SL7V34) is very comparable to the 2016 Marucci Hex Alloy Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBAHAX10) in that they are both one piece aluminum designs with balanced swing weights. Where the Velo will be different is in its Silver Comp Lite End Cap and Acoustic Alloy. Due to the composite end cap it will be a little bit more balanced the the Hex and the swing weight will feel very similar in the 2 5/8" and 2 3/4" barrels.

In regards to the SL7V34 vs. the SL7V12, what are their true weight on scale for the 28/16 (SL7V12) & the 28/18 (SL7V34)? I know sometimes the drop weight is not the true weight and trying to see the difference.

The 2017 Rawlings VELO Senior League Baseball Bat: SL7V34 is going to weigh about half an ounce more than the listed weight, and the SLV712 is going to weigh close to an ounce more than the listed weight.

My son is 9 yrs old playing 9u travel ball. He swings a 28/18. Should I get this bat or the Marucci Hex Alloy?

Both the 2017 Rawlings VELO Senior League Baseball Bat: SL7V34 and the Marucci Hex Alloy are one-piece alloy bats with balanced swing weights. Both of these bats are great ones to consider and it would really come down to personal preference. Our son will play 12U Majors this year. He is 5'3" and weighs 107 lbs. What size bat is recommended in a -10: 30" or 31"?

For a player of his size, I'd suggest going with the 2017 Rawlings VELO Senior League Baseball Bat: SL7V34 in the 31" 21 oz. size.

My son in about 5'2" and 85 lbs. What size should I get and is this a great bat for him? He play 13U select.

The recommended length for him is 30 inches. Depending on whether your son will be transitioning to high school baseball shortly, this bat may be a bit light in weight for him. In high school, he will be required to use a -3.

I am trying to decide between two bats for a 9U boy entering kid pitch. What is the advantage of having the Rawlings VELO Senior League vs. the Rawlings 5150 Senior League bat?

Both this 2017 Rawlings VELO Senior League Baseball Bat (SL7V34) and the 2017 Rawlings 5150 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL7534) will be excellent bats for use by your player. However, this VELO will feature a few more extra technologies on it. Those extra technologies will include a composite end-cap to make the bat feel more balanced swinging overall and updated pOp 2.0 technology to allow for more flex and performance. If you are wanting to get the bat with the most technology, I would recommend this VELO.

Ben Expert
128581 Click to show/hide answer

Are there any technological differences between this bat and the 2016 model besides the color scheme and graphics? Will the 2017 model be available in a drop 8?

The 2017 Rawlings VELO Senior League Baseball Bat: SL7V34 features enhanced durability and precision technology that allows for an increase in flex and pop compared to the 2016 Rawlings VELO Senior League Baseball Bat: SLVR10. Unfortunately Rawlings did not produce the 2017 VELO in a -8 length to weight ratio so we will not have that size available in this model.
