This is a good option for a player that needs a little flex in their bat. In contrast, the Marucci CAT 8 BBCOR Baseball Bat: MCBC8 is a one piece alloy with a balanced swing weight. Power hitters tend to have success with the stiffer one piece alloy bats. Depending on your player's preference, they could find success with either option.

Traditionally speaking, aluminum provides a stiffer, yet higher conduction of vibrations, upon contact. This has favored power hitters. Composite flexes more on contact and dampens the vibrations, for a more comfortable bat. I would not recommend doing so at this point in time. I played at 5'9" and swung a 31" bat myself. It comes down to player preference but I would not increase bat size just to increase bat size. However, if you were wanting to go up to 32" then I would recommend something like this Marucci CAT 8 BBCOR Baseball Bat: MCBC8 because of how balanced the swing weight is.

It certainly could be, but that's somewhat impossible for us to know since we can't know the strength of the player, the efficiency of his swing, etc. You want to swing the heaviest bat you can while still maintaining good bat speed and control, as the heavier weight provides more pop. Generally though we don't recommend BBCOR bats unless you are required to use them, as USSSA bats (-5, -8, -10 with the stamp) have more pop than BBCOR models due to looser regulations on ball exit speed.

With the BBCOR certification it can be difficult for one of the bats to have higher performance or pop than the rest. It is better determined by if the bat will feel the best to your hitter. So far the Marucci CAT 8 BBCOR Baseball Bat: MCBC8 reviews have been positive with the new AZ105 Alloy, which is the strongest alloy out of the Marucci CAT series. From what we have heard the sweet spot is large, similar to the CAT 6.

I think that this Marucci CAT 8 BBCOR Baseball Bat (MCBC8) and the Solo 619 both feel very balanced when swung. However, the Solo 619 does have the composite end-cap on it that is designed specially to make a bat feel lighter in a player's hands. There is probably not a 100% answer one way or the other (just know that both bats will feel lite delivery great performance).

My 14 year old son is just north of 5'10" tall, weighs 165 lbs and is playing for a club team and also the local Babe Ruth League (will be in High school next year). Doctor stated he will most likely be around 6'-2" when he stops growing (size 12 foot). He started swinging the Marucci CAT 8 BBCOR MCBC8 at the club and loves it. Is this bat acceptable for play in Babe Ruth? High School? He is looking at the 32" length. His avg. swing speed is fast and was measured at just over 70 sometimes reaching upwards of 75. (he is as strong as an ox). His hitting coach (who I like) states no one should be swinging anything longer than a 32 (I tend to agree) but would love another expert opinion. Mark, thanks for the questions. I'll try and answer them all for you.
1) As for if the bat is legal for Babe Ruth, according to the Babe Ruth website with a quick Google search, it appears that Babe Ruth allows BBCOR for ages 13+. You should be ok, but may want to check with your coach or league commissioner for more clarification.
2) As for size, I respectfully disagree with the idea that no one should ever use above a 32" bat length, although that sounds like a good size for your son right now. In my opinion if your son does grow to be 6'2" tall and say, 200 lbs or so when he fully matures, he most certainly could use a 33", 33.5", or even a 34" length at that time, depending on his own strength and personal preference.

Two-piece bats do allow for more flex during the swing. This has the advantage of providing much more vibration dampening on mishits, so that stinging feeling players can get on mishits is lessened significantly. However, one-piece alloy models like the Marucci Cat 8 allow slightly better force transfer up the barrel to the point of contact due to the stiffer feel, so many players prefer that feel as it allows for better feedback.

Based on the number of reviews and the quality of those reviews, I would probably recommend this Marucci CAT 8 BBCOR Baseball Bat (MCBC8) over the Omaha 519. The designs are pretty similar as both bats are one-piece, all-aluminum. As well, the Omaha is an excellent bat. However, everything we hear on this CAT 8 is pretty overwhelmingly positive. Because of that, I would recommend this CAT 8.

We live in Indiana where the beginning of the season is played in cold temps. My son broke a composite bat in a game last year because it was about 45 degrees.. since this bat is aluminum, is it a safer bet than a composite bat for tempts under 60 degrees? SEAN

I saw there is some red on the bat but mainly white. I've heard some high schools and colleges are banning mostly white bats I guess due to seeing the ball off the bat. Would this bat be in this category possibly? Tim
