Description

The Brett Brothers understand that having reliable wood is the most important component in creating a wood bat. The Bamboo/Maple hybrid design of the Thunder has made it one of the most popular wood slow pitch softball bats of all time. The bamboo core and maple barrel make this bat nearly indestructible. The newest model features a sleek new design and Brett Bros. patented BOA wrap. These bats have an approximate -6 length to weight ratio and are ASA Approved. The Brett Brothers have been involved in the game their entire lives, through Bobby and John's Minor League careers to the Professional careers of Ken and George. Needless to say, the Brett Brothers know the game. Even today, it's an important part of their lives, with each brother being involved in their own way. George, who is still a part of the Kansas City Royals Organization and a hometown hero here in Kansas City, was a career .305 hitter with 3 Batting Titles, a 1985 World Series Ring and an induction to the Hall of Fame in 1999 to round out his 21 year career in Kansas City. Not only did he prove to be a consistent hitter he showed that he had the knowledge to succeed. Trust a bat from guys that have been around the game their entire lives. Brett Bros: The Very Best! Pros: Nice light weight bat. When hit on the sweet spot, the ball flies. Overall, very good bat.

Cons: Vibration felt on the handle, put hockey tape around the handle, took care of the problem.

Pros: I bought this bat last spring to use in a summer wood bat league. I have been thoroughly impressed thus far. The bat has great pop and the durability has also been great. We had several first time players hitting with the bat, so as expected there have been many balls hit off of the handle. The bat has stood up great and is now entering its second season of use. All in all this is a great bat for the money.

Cons: As others have commented, there was a little vibration when hitting. I used a little tape on the handle and problem solved. Also not necessarily a "con" but I would like to see an option for a 4oz drop as the bat is a little light.

Good base hit bat DublZ player

Pros: Great for the cold weather games. Good bat for looping one over the infield if hit on the sweet spot. Great bat for practice as the barrel is thinner than your standard composite bat. Very durable. Very pleased, it is perfect for what I want to use it for: practice, cold games, and base hits.

Cons: There is vibration if not hit on the sweet spot, again some tape clears that problem up. Not a home run hitting bat. Smaller barrel leaves little room for error.

Cons: I had to return it because our Senior league dosen't allow bamboo.

Review of Previous Model Chris player

Pros: I started playing slow pitch wood bat softball for the first time three years ago. I bought two of these bats thinking that I'd likely break one soon enough. We the first one lasted me almost 3 full years and I mourned it's loss. It turns out that the barrel is a tiny bit smaller than some of the others that I've seen other people using but since it was the first I used I've gotten very comfortable with it. I've read some other people saying that the bat doesn't have that much pop in it. I beg to differ. I crush with this bat. The handle feels like it had just enough flex in it to put some distance on the ball but not too much to be distracting.

Cons: I always swing hard and there have been numerous times where my team thought for sure that I'd broken this bat because of the sound it sometimes makes when you don't hit the sweet spot but it wasn't till about 3 years in that I really broke it. It saddens me to see that the model that I'd purchased ( a black bat) isn't here any more. I was really hoping to buy another to have in case I break my second. I guess when that time comes I'll have to give this new blue model a chance and hope it's as good.

The Vulcan Grip, will it apply on top of the tape already on the bat, or do I have to remove that first? Is there an option for you to apply it before it's shipped?
Jim
To apply the Vulcan Grip you would take off the original grip on the Brett Bros. Thunder Bamboo/Maple Wood Slow Pitch Softball Bat: SST500 Black/Blue and you would put the Vulcan grip on. Unfortunately there is no option for us to put those on before shipping at this time.

About the Brand

The Brett Brothers “entered the bat business with the goal of ensuring that coaches at all levels of baseball have access to superior quality composite wood bats that are cost effective." The Brett Brothers have been involved in baseball their entire lives. We are four brothers and all of us played professional ball at one time. Bobby and John played in the Minor Leagues, and Ken and George together put in 31 years in the Major Leagues.

Not only did we play baseball because we were good, we truly loved the game. Even today we closely follow the sport. George still works for the Kansas City Royals. Ken has been a broadcaster for 11 years with Fox. Bobby runs our professional franchises here in Spokane, the baseball Indians and the hockey Chiefs. The oldest brother John is a frequent visitor here to see his brothers and watch our teams play.

Like most baseball families, it all started in a small Southern California town call El Segundo. The boys are all about two years apart, and we had some kind of sporting event about every night. I remember most of our family meals were hot dogs, and everything was on the fly. Our parents were always there to cheer for us, and our lives were generally very happy.

Ken was the first to sign a pro contract at age 17. He was the fourth player taken in the annual draft by the Boston Red Sox. When their scout Joe Stephenson came to sign him, our dad said, "the one you really want is the skinny, barefooted one, George." George in 1966 was all of 12 years old.

If you move up the clock to 1971, George was a senior, and Joe Stephenson desperately wanted him to be Boston's #1 pick. The Red Sox said no, and the Kansas City Royals took George in round #2. The rest is history. Ken played 11 years for numerous teams. George turned out to be exactly the player our late father envisioned. He was a 3-time winner of the Batting Title in three different decades. He was very consistent, and always played the game very hard. He was the greatest Royal, and still makes his home in Kansas City. In the summer of 1999, he was awarded Baseball's highest award, election to the Hall Of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.

In the spring of 1998, the Tridiamond Bat Company needed a place to "try out" their new baseball bats. Because the Bretts owned the only local professional team, an association was formed. When Tridiamond got both NCAA and Major League approval to sell bats, they needed some baseball help. At this time we bought into the company and changed the name to Brett Bats.
