Pros:  The sweet spot on this bat is excellent. The pop my 12 year old gets out of this bat is awesome. First year in select and he is facing 70mph pitching and because of the design of this bat he is smashing it.

Cons:  Does seem to get ringing in hands

Pros:  Descent pop

Cons:  My 12 yro son broke 2 of these bats in a 4 month span. The bat is not durable at all. I did however receive a third bat after a month battle with Combat.

Pros:  Bat has good pop, nice lizard skin grip already installed. I put 4 stars for Durability but haven't had long enough to really know how well it will hold up.

Cons:  They call this the Maxum but in comparison to other Maxums I've seen, the barrel isn't that big on this model. That was let down number 1, then the worst thing is how bad it will ring the player's hands if they hit it off the end of the barrel.

Pros:  My son has used 3 different Combat bats. Great feel and weight distribution. Great pop and overall a great bat.

Cons:  As he moved into bigger models the third one he got cracked after two weeks using it. JustBats.com customer service was great and replaced it right away.

Pros:  Nice feel. Excellent balance. Easy to control for a 10 year old. Drop 11 is very hard to find, but was a great fit for my son. Really like the bat and if it would stay together I would highly recommend it.

Cons:  Durability is very poor. On our third bat this 2017 season due to cracking on the barrel and one bat broke in two on contact with a pitch from a coach during practice. However, Easton has been great about replacing the consistently breaking bats and allowing my son to continue through the season with the same bat. Easton has assumed Combat operations.

Pros:  Son received this bat just over a week ago. He is smaller for his age group so this bat allows him to cover the strike zone without being too heavy and has a lot of pop. Shortly after breaking in, he dominated batting practice, hit a home run in a tournament skills competition and has hit the fence in a few games turning him from a contact hitter to a power hitter.

Cons:  None at this time.

Pros:  its all about the pop. Ball definitely jumps off bat, longer barrel is great as well!

Cons:  There is a good bit of sting on miss hits, but with longer barrel and large sweet spot, doesn't happen too often.

Pros:  When you do hit the sweet spot it FLYS!!! my 12U player uses this against faster pitchers. Bat feels nice in his hands. overall great bat for price.

Cons:  Zings hands too often. Seem when not hitting sweet spot you get dead sounding noise and bat doesn't drive as well as some of his other bats on just basic hit like hard grounders and line drive.

Pros:  Have only used in practice and BP currently, however my son is completely in love with this bat. His swing is more balanced and fly through the zone. He loves the installed Lizard Skin on the handle as well, he has not used with his batting gloves as of yet because he likes the grip the skin provides, have not had any of the bat sting issue as of yet.

Cons:  Need to use more against live pitching once season start

Pros:  My son is 7 he is 94lbs and taller than any kid on the team. This bat is perfectly balanced. The barrel has a very large sweet spot. We have probably hit 250+ balls now and it has really come alive now that its breaking in. My son has yet to complain about stinging his hands. I could not believe the price was under 100$ because it feels like a 400 dollar bat. Highly recommend you to have buy this for cheap.

Cons:  Curious to see how the durability holds up so we will see.

Pros:  My 8 yr old son is 4 ft 9 and weighs 105 lbs and using the 30 in 19oz. He is crushing the ball with this bat to the point that the coach of our team won't allow infielders when my son is taking BP. The coach literally sends all the kids to the outfield to chase balls. My son says this bat has better feel than his Demarini Voodoo bat with less vibration. Extremely happy with the purchase especially at the discount that's available.

Cons:  This bat will not be legal to use in our league in 2019.

Pros:  Feels lighter than 17oz, has nice pop. Been using the 28" 17oz at practice and a lot of kids really like it. Sounds like a wooden bat. My son got it for Christmas and he really loves it. I have to say the balance on this bat is perfect and makes for a quicker swing. good bat for the money.

Cons:  As we are finding out with all composit bats one year is about all u get out of them maby two seasons if you dont play to many games.

Pros:  Lighter bat for a skinnier 11u player. A lot of his teammates also use it now, because of the lighter feel to the bat. That one ounce does make a difference. A great price for this bat, would buy it again if I had to do it over.

Cons:  Had to get used of the handle. Vibrated his hands the first few times, but doesn't even notice now. Been having the bat about a month now, can't comment on durability yet.

Pros:  Just ordered this bat for my son. The price was the reason. He had the Louisville Slugger Catylist the last two years. He told me its equal to but not better than the Slugger.

Cons:  My son told me it rattles or vibrates even if you hit it on the sweet spot. Not sure about the durability we just purchased the bat. He likes the overall feel but he has only used it in the cage and not in games yet.

Pros:  My son likes the look and general feel of the bat. It's given him some better pop and thus far it's been durable. Have owned for one month playing travel ball.

Cons:  Son is having a hard time with the vibration and stingers coming off this bat if it's not hit just perfect every time. No other bat we've used he's had such a hard time. Have doubled up the tape to try to assist with the sting if not hit perfect.

Pros:  The paint job is sick and the barrel is HUGE! My son won't put this bat down. He loves how balanced it is and his hitting has drastically improved.

Cons:  All white = dirt shows easily. And I have heard him complain about vibration in his hands but it's not significant. I would recommend this bat to anyone.

Pros:  nice look and nit as heavy as some others.

Cons:  my son has had this bat for one month now. He has used it in only one tournament and durring B.P. last week he told me he had enough with this bat and put it away in thr middle of practice and git out a 2 year old bat instead. He told me the vibration was just to great and he did not want to use it any longer.... thus was our 4th easton bat, one Mako and 2 Torq. little league and big barrel and this one by far was the most dissapointing.

Pros:  HAS POP. I HAVE SEEN REVIEWS ABOUT THE STINGING OF HANDS. IF THE VIBRATION IS BAD ITS THE PLAYER NOT THE BAT. THIS BAT WILL TELL ON A BAD SWINGER. MY KID HAS TOLD ME THAT. IT HAS MADE HIM ADJUST HIS SWING FOR THE BETTER. LIKES THIS BAT OVER -10 COMBAT.

Cons:  MOM HATES THE WHITE. LOL

Pros:  My son has been swinging this bat for a little over 2 months now and he seems to be happy with it. Most of the kids on his travel ball team swings the DeMarini CF Zen balanced bat so I figured it was worth a shot ordering this bat in so my son could compare the two bats and decide which one he like best. After swinging the Easton bat and the DeMarini he choose this Easton bat. When weighing the Easton and DeMarini bats the Easton stayed more close to its weight at only a half an ounce heavier where as the DeMarini weighted in about an ounce and half more. So the Easton is very true to its weight and being a -12 bat if the kids is struggling with bat speed which my son has suffered from helps out tremendously. UPDATE: My son was struggling with this bat at a recent tournament. So he picked up the DeMarini CF Zen that most kids on the team use and he went up to bat in smashed the ball. I fear he might not use his Easton bat again. The Zen is HOT but durability issues which to choose??

Cons:  Only thing my son has complained about is the vibration and sting on his hands with this bat. Like the other reviews have stated the vibration and sting of missed hits on the bat is evident and can be felt it when the ball is hit more towards the hands or end of the barrel. This still holds true to the characteristic of a one piece bat though. It will help a hitter develop more accuracy of hitting the baseball on the sweet spot of the barrel of the bat over time. So to help with this I just purchased the 1.8mm Lizard Skin grip and that seems to have help take the vibration and sting out of the miss hits for him. Besides the bat comes with a white grip, it was turning black from play already. So changing the grip needed to be done. The only other con I would say is I see other reviews posted about massive barrel but honestly this is a small barrel compared to the DeMarini CF Zen bat when compared side by side. Hope this helps!!

Pros:  very good looking bat.

Cons:  i bought the first bat and it broke on the inside ten days after purchase. I thought it must be a fluke i will send it back no problem. I did not want my son to be without a bat for half the season so I went ahead and bought another. The second time it connected with a baseball the cap shattered and came off. I haven't even got the first bat in the mail yet. I purchased $400 worth of garbage!! Just bats...reconsider selling this product.

Pros:  My 83 pound 13 year old loves this bat and he has been hitting well. Ball seems to jump off the barrel. His other bat is the 2016 S1 but keeps going back to the Hyperlite

Cons:  The white shows alot of scuff marks and he says it does sting his hand if he don't hit it on the sweetspot. Other than that he loves it.

Pros:  Design Color Weight Barrel DIA Seems balanced

Cons:  I submitted a question to justbats. I ordered this bat due to the 2 3/4 barrel size of the bat. The bat to me sound a little dead when my son hits off of it. It has a low thud or dull sound. Maybe I'm not use to it and not sure if there is a break in period. I thought break in periods was only for composite bats. My son and I hit a couple of hundred balls off a tee and another hundred or so of live pitching. I immediately noticed that the sound the bat makes still seems to have this dull thud sound. Almost like a wooden bat so not sure if the bat is defective or just not use to this bat. So different than the Demarini and Easton he currently has. If it doesn't get better soon then I feel this might have been a mistake and will have to look at other options. Has anyone else had these issues? - fcmcommw

Pros:  The Easton Mako Hyperlite is an awesome addition to our 10u travel baseball team. I picked up a bat pack with a 30" Easton Mako Beast Hyperlite and 29" Combat Maxum for only $239. There are better bats out there, but I think the Beast Hyperlite is the hottest bat in it's specific price point. You'll struggle to find a better bat for less than $200. The Beast has a ton of pop, and the 2 3/4 barrel is HUGE! My son hits both bats well, but prefers the Beast when hitting for distance. The bat has more of an end-loaded feel than the Maxum, which feels more balanced. My son's confidence is through the roof right now, and the 29" 17oz Beast is the reason. He's never hit a ball harder or farther...ever.

Cons:  The one-piece design allows for vibration, but that's to be expected with a one-piece composite bat.

Pros:  Sic looking bat, love the all white, balanced, great feel, super light!!

Cons:  Purchased this for my 11 y/o son playing travel baseball. This was to replace his beloved Freak. Anyway, I purchased the bat towards the end of the season (July), and he has probably hit 600+ balls with it & the bat sounds dead. No pop, no distance...nothing, other than his hands stinging. My son is a long distance hitter & this just isn't doing it. He loves the feel of the bat & how light it is, but we are about to give up here. I know composite bats take a bit to break in, however, its just hasn't gotten any better, from day 1 to now. I have been looking at other bats to replace this one, but for now, I am going to have him hit a few hundred more balls, and hope something changes before spending $350 for a new Zen. If something should change after hitting more balls, I will update the review. By the way, the all white bat looks really awesome when its new, however, the grip is so filthy, its gross. I so wanted to love this bat..,

Pros:  batt looks good thats it.

Cons:  we bought this bat last year when it came out after a month of use the knob spider cracked and all pop was gone. sent it back and 3 weeks later finally got another bat back. easton replaced it but would not switch models. i wanted to upgrade and pay the differance but they wouldnt do it. we have haf many makos in the past and never had this problem. a 10yr old was swinging this bat and he will not even pick it up now that he has a alloy marruci. probably the best bat any of my kids have ever owned tremedous pop. older son had a 916 lls great bat also. many kids also had the mako beast on both travel teams and never left the bat bag. just not the same as the old orange makos

How would you compare the 27” Combat Maxum versus the Easton S2? Which is more balanced to give an easier swing? Which has better pop? Are these both 2 3/4” and legal for travel ball in 2018? For rec ball we are using the Rawlings 5150 USA bat, but I want to get a big barrel for travel ball now.

The 2017 COMBAT MAXUM -11 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL7MX211 will be a more balanced feel than the S2, will be very close in performance of the bats and will both be legal for travel ball in 2018.

I bought this bat for my 9 year old son and it seems to be very dead and it vibrates! It doesn’t make any sound when hits it. What’s up with that?

The 2017 COMBAT MAXUM -11 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL7MX211 is a fully composite bat. With composite bats, a break-in period is needed to loosen up the composite fibers and see the bat's true performance. To break-in the bat, we suggest either soft toss or hitting of a tee for about 200 swings, rotating the bat a 1/4 turn every 10 swings. As a one piece bat, the player could experience some vibration with mishits.

My son it 7 years old and batting with a 27" 19oz bat. He is 50" and about 53 lbs. His current bat has worked fine but I have always thought it was a bit too heavy. Now his is going into all-stars and will be facing faster pitchers. Is this a good bat for him or is there a better version out there? Also, it has to be USA bat certified. Thanks for your insight!

To start, the 2017 COMBAT MAXUM -11 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL7MX211 is a USSSA approved bat, but will not be allowed for any USA sanctioned baseball. Unfortunately, Combat has not made a USA model bat. If you were looking for a lighter USA model, I would recommend checking out some of our (-10) USA options.

My son is 8 going on 9 and is around 4'6" and 76 pounds. He has been swinging a 27" drop 12 Easton for a couple years until it broke. I am not sure if he should move up to a larger bat. I was thinking about the 27/16 or the 28/17 Combat Maxum and really not sure which way to go. Any help would be great.

Based on your player's height and weight, as well as his age, I would suggest the 28/17 2017 COMBAT MAXUM -11 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL7MX211 given the two options listed.

What is true weight on this bat and how does it compare to the 2018 Cat 7?

Most bats will weight .5-1 oz heavier than the listed weight due to things like the paint and adhesive glue not being factored into the listed weight. The Marucci Cat 7 is a one-piece, all alloy model while this Combat is a one-piece, composite design. Both bats should perform very well.

My son is 9 years old and a little small for his age. What would be a good bat for him in his 1st year of 9U travel ball?

In my opinion, I think one-piece bats are more beneficial to younger players because of the durability they provide. With that being said I think the 2017 COMBAT MAXUM -11 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL7MX211 in a 29 inch length would be a great option for your player.

How does this 17' Combat Maxum compare to the 16' Marucci Hex Alloy in performance? Distance, pop and sweet spot size?

The major difference between these two bats will be that the 2017 COMBAT MAXUM -11 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL7MX211 is a one-piece composite bat compared to the one-piece alloy construction of the Marucci Hex Alloy Senior League Baseball Bat. Furthermore, the 2017 Combat Maxum will provide a lower swing weight and a 20-40% increase in hitting surface. The pop and distance provided from each of these bats will be very similar as they are both held to the same USSSA regulations.

I just bought the -11, thinking it was a -10. It is for my 9 year old twins. They have been using a 30"/20 oz (-10). Will they be alright?

If you purchased this 2017 COMBAT MAXUM -11 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL7MX211) in the 30"/19 oz size or the 31"/20 oz size, I think your players should be fine to use either of those sizes of bats. Yes, this 2017 COMBAT MAXUM -11 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL7MX211) and the SL7MS210 will have the same potential for performance when you are comparing models of similar length and weight (the only slight advantage is that this SL7MX211 features a larger 2 3/4" barrel diameter).

My son is 9 years old and weighs 84 lbs. His coach says to use a heavier bat for more power. (1) What is the difference between a -11 and -10? (2) Should he get a BBCOR?

(1) The difference between a bat that is listed as a -11 like this 2017 COMBAT MAXUM -11 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL7MX211) and a bat that is listed as a -10 is going to be the length-to-weight ratio. The length-to-weight ratio is the difference between the number of the length in inches and the number of the weight in ounces. This COMBAT MAXUM has a difference of 11 between the number of the length in inches and the number of the weight in ounces. A bat that is listed as a -10 will have a difference of 10 between the number of the length in inches and the number of the weight in ounces. Therefore, if you were to compare a -11 bat and a -10 bat that both had the same length, the -11 model would be 1 ounce lighter. (2) I would not recommend getting a BBCOR for a 9 year old player. BBCOR bats are meant for use by high school and college aged players. Those bats will be listed as -3 models. They will be much heavier than a -11 model like this COMBAT MAXUM.

What is the difference in this bat vs the new DeMarini CF Zen?

This 2017 COMBAT MAXUM -11 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL7MX211) will differ from the 2017 DeMarini CF Zen Balanced Senior League Baseball Bat (DXCBZ) as this MAXUM is a one-piece bat while the CF Zen is the two-piece bat. You'll notice as well that this MAXUM is a -11 model while the CF Zen is a -10 model. Lastly, I think that the longer barrel length on this MAXUM will lead to a slightly larger sweet spot on it as well. However, in regard to similarities, both bats will be pretty balanced in their swing weights and both bats are all composite in their build.

My son is 9 yrs old and 67 lbs and hits from a pitching machine at 37 mph in Canada. The temp can fluctuate so will that affect the bats performance?

Yes, if you are going to play in temperatures below 55 degrees this can cause the baseball to become more dense and in turn might cause damage to the bat. If you are in 55 degrees or less I would recommend to try and limit the use of the bat to just in-game at bats and try not to take batting practice before the game.

Does this bat require a break-in period, or is this good to go straight out of the wrapper? I know with composite softball bats take a while to break in.

The 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST HYPERLITE -12 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK12B would need to be broken in due to its composite material. Typically, 150-200 swings off a tee or soft toss is enough to get the bat well broken in before hitting live pitching.

My son is 12 years old, 82 pounds, and 4ft 7in tall. Is this a good bat for him, and if so, what size would you recommend. I have seen in a previous question answered that it might not be good for a hard swinging 12 yr old, it could have durability issues. I have also looked into the Easton S3 big barrel, and it also said that it is for kids up to 11 yrs old, why is that? Between the two, which would be the better choice?

Based on your player's height, weight, and age, I would suggest a bat featuring a 2 5/8" barrel diameter in a 29" size and either -10 or -8, such as the 2017 Easton S3 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17S310. Bats featuring a 2 3/4" barrel are designed for player's about the age of 11 or younger due to the thinner barrel walls not being able to handle pitches faster than about 40 MPH.

Just received this bat from JustBats last week. Is there a break in period for the bat like a composite? Unfortunately, the bat sounds dead or a low thud when hitting the ball both off a tee and live hitting. We hit a couple hundred balls off of a tee and some live pitching and something still doesn't sound right compared to his other Easton and DeMarini bats. The bat is lightly used now so now what? Hope it improves soon or I feel like this was a bad purchase.

The 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST HYPERLITE -12 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK12B is a one-piece fully composite bat and will require a break in before being game ready. These composite bats will sound more like a wood bat or offer more of a "thud" on contact. Looking for a bat for my 8 year old who is 48" and 50 lbs. I've narrowed it down to the 28"/16 oz size of either the Hyperlite -or- the MAXSL112. I've heard about bad vibration on the Hyperlite. Does the Combat produce the same amount of sting from miss-hits? Which of these bats do you think would work best for him?

Based upon your player's height and weight, I think you would be just fine to get a bat in the 28"/16 oz size. What's the difference between this 2017 EASTON MAKO BEAST HYPERLITE -12 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK12B and the 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST -12 Junior Big Barrel Baseball Bat: JBB17MK12B? They are both -12, both have 2-¾" barrels, both have the same grip diameter, both MAKO BEAST, although obviously one has Hyperlite added to the name, one is black and one is white, and one is a senior league bat and the other a junior bat. I also see that the max size of the JBB17MK12B is 27/15 and the smallest size of the Hyperlite is 28/16. Are there any other tangible differences or pros, and cons of each bat?

The main difference between the 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST HYPERLITE -12 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK12B and the 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST -12 Junior Big Barrel Baseball Bat: JBB17MK12B is the barrel walls. A Junior Big Barrel bat has thinner barrel walls and is designed for coach pitch leagues. These types of bats are great for players facing velocity under 40 MPH between the ages of 6-8. A Senior League bat will have thicker barrel walls, can withstand the higher velocity and used by players from 8-14.

For my son I just bought the Combat Maxum -12 Senior League bat in 28/16 ounce & this 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST HYPERLITE -12 Senior League bat 28/16. My son is 51-½" tall & 55 pounds. He just tried out and made an 8u travel baseball team. This is his first time playing travel ball. He's a very good contact hitter, but lacks power. I would like to get my son a bat that will help improve his power as as is possible to get from bat selection. What are the pros & cons when comparing 2-5/8" vs. a 2-¾" barrel, assuming all else is equal? Is it accurate to say that the 2017 Combat Maxum with its 2-5/8" barrel has a longer barrel which in turn means that it has a longer sweet spot and the 2017 Mako Beast Hyperlite with its 2-3/4" barrel has a wider sweet spot due to the wider barrel? Are there any other differences between these two bats that will effect how they hit? Do you think that a 28 inch 16 ounce -12 bat is the best length and weight for him or should we go down one size to a 27" 15 ounce bat? His new travel coach seems to think that my son should use a smaller 27/15. Based on what I have shared, do you think my son would be better off with the Mako Beast Hyperlite Senior League or Combat Maxum Senior League bat?

I went ahead and numbered your questions just to make it easier to read and answer. 1) 2 5/8" barrels are generally more durable due to thicker walls, while 2 3/4" bats have thinner walls to provide a bit more pop and power, but high risk of durability problems. 2) I would say that's a fairly accurate statement about the bats, yes. 3) The Hyperlite should feel ligher during the swing due to its balancing compared to the Maxum, although both are well balanced bats. 4) We would recommend a 28" bat for someone his size, although you can always go up or down 1" depending on personal preference. 5) I think you would be fine with both models personally. They should both perform very comparably. Just take into account the differences caused by the barrel diameters and make your decision based off that.

The 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST HYPERLITE -12 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK12B, as well as all other youth model bats, will have to feature the new USABat stamp starting in 2018 to be eligible for game play. What is the difference between the MAKO BEAST and the MAKO BEAST HYPERLITE big barrel bats?

This 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST HYPERLITE -12 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL17MK12B) will feature the same TCT Thermo Composite material as the regular MAKO BEASTs. However, there will be a lot of differences between the bats. The HYPERLITE features a -12 length-to-weight ratio and 2 3/4" barrel diameter, a one-piece design and different cosmetics. Because of those differences, the HYPERLITE is going to feel lighter than regular Big barrel MAKO BEASTs and it will also feature a more stiff feel when making contact with the ball.
