Description

Bombs away! DeMarini USSSA big barrel bats blast baseballs like rockets on ropes. For the 2019 season, the CF Zen series is back and better than before. As a fan favorite season after season, DeMarini knew they had to step up their game and take their design and innovation to new levels. As a result, the new Paraflex Plus composite was created. With a perfect amount of temperature and time that goes into each model, these baseball bats have the most consistent and powerful barrel in the game today. On the other end, DeMarini's newly developed X-Lite knob fits seamlessly into any players bottom hand while eliminating the worry of negative feedback that stings like no other. After a successful launch last year, let's not forget about the tried-and-true 3Fusion system made up of a connection piece and end cap that maximizes the sweet spot, improves bat control, and provides additional oomph at the plate. DeMarini: Rise Up!

This DeMarini CF Zen Senior League Baseball Bat (WTDXCB5) features a 2 5/8-inch barrel diameter, a drop 5 length to weight ratio, and the USSSA 1.15 BPF thumbprint stamp. Due to the large barrel and balanced swing weight, this model is recommended for all types of hitters. Take your game to the next level and buy one of these DeMarini CF Zen bats today with free shipping and a full one (1) year manufacturer's warranty. Amazing - but the grip is awful. Bill B parent

Pros: Out of the wrapper it was pretty live. My son seems to have better control of the barrel than his previous bat - so he seems to like the balance. The bat definitely has more pop than an average bat.

Cons: You better order a grip with the bat - my son could barely hold on to it. Still - a great bat.

Sweet bat! Xinh Nguyen Coach

Pros: Well performance wise there is nothing bad to be said about the bat it comes hot right out the wrap and I do not regret sticking with Demarini and will always go with Demarini for bats!

Cons: I have never had any issue like this with any of the DeMarini bats I have bought. My son has only been swinging the Demarini drop five for one week and the grip has already started to peel from the bottom and I had to replace it but other then that everything has been great !

Overall Great Bat Player Player

Pros: I have used this bat since it was first released. In my first tournament with it I hit two home runs (I am not usually a power hitter), and two doubles. In fall games, my average was the best on the team, and I only struck out twice in 16 games, and I had a total of about 40 at-bats. The bat feels balanced, and the pop is insane. I have just started my middle school season (I'm 13, but for travel I play 14U). I bought the 31 in, and I am about 5'4'' and weigh about 120 pounds. I would highly recommend this bat to anyone who is willing to pay the price, it has lasted me 9 months, and I have yet to see any cracks or hear any dead spots. Definitely buying this bat again for high school ball next year, unless DeMarini can best it!

Cons: The grip lost its tackiness fairly early, but that can easily be fixed with Lizard Skin.

The 2019 DeMarini CF Zen -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB5-19 features a 2 5/8" barrel diameter.
Cameron
Is this bat high school approved?
Futures8
The 2019 DeMarini CF Zen -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB5-19 is not high school approved as high school requires a BBCOR bat. You would want to consider the 2018 DeMarini CF Zen BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTDXCBC for high school.
Cameron
My son is 5"4' and 130 pounds. He currently swings a 31/25, but could swing a bigger bat. Would you recommend the 32/27 or 33/28?
luke
Based on your son's height and weight, I would recommend getting the 2019 DeMarini CF Zen -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB5-19 going to a 32'' if you want to move him up.
Tori
Is this bat approved for middle school?
steve
Whether or not the 2019 DeMarini CF Zen -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB5-19 is allowed for middle school is all dependent based on the league rules. We have seen some middle school leagues go to the BBCOR standard.
Cameron
My son in about 5'7" and 120 lbs. What size Zen should he be swinging?
kevin
Per his height and weight, we would recommend him using the 2019 DeMarini CF Zen -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB5-19 in a 31 inch model.
Cameron
Many of the DeMarini bats have been removed from the USSSA approved list. Is this bat in 33" ok for usssa competition?

Tori

My son is 5'2" and 93 lbs, what size would you recommend?
John Doe
Based on your player's specifications, I would recommend a 31" version of this 2019 DeMarini CF Zen -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB5-19.
Tyler
Can my son use this bat in Cooperstown?
Jo
The 2019 DeMarini CF Zen -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB5-19 is only USSSA approved, so if the tournament in Cooperstown is requiring a USA certified bat then this model will not be allowed.
Tyler
My son is 5'4" and around 125 pounds. What size would you recommend him?
Marcus
Per your son's height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2019 DeMarini CF Zen -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB5-19 in a 31 inch model.
Cameron
Where I can find 34'' 29oz bats?
mois
Unfortunately, the 2019 DeMarini CF Zen -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB5-19 will not come in a 34'' 29oz and I am not aware of a bat that will. I would recommend moving up a -3 BBCOR model to maximize performance and get a longer length.
Max
Is the bat USABat certified?
Nailah
No, this bat only has the USSSA 1.15 BPF certification. Look for "USA" in the title of bats that have the USA certification stamp on them.
Kyle J.
How does his bat compare to the Louisville Slugger Prime 918? Which is better?
John
Both the 2019 DeMarini CF Zen -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB5-19 and the Prime 918 are very similar models in that they are both multi-piece, fully composite models that will provide high levels of performance once they are fully broken-in. I would not feel comfortable in stating one as "better" than the other as they are held to the same certification threshold, but the CF Zen does incorporate 3-Fusion technology to reduce vibrations and provide additional energy back into the barrel on contact.
Tyler
My son is 5'9" and 150 lbs, what bat should he be using?
Eastonc12
Per your son's height and weight, we would recommend he swing the 2019 DeMarini CF Zen -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB5-19 in a 33 inch model.
Cameron
My son 13 years old, 5'5" 105 lbs. What size bat would you recommend?
jr
With the specifications that you listed, we would recommend a 31 inch 2019 DeMarini CF Zen -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB5-19. However, you could also go to a 32 inch with your player choking up until he grows into the bat. It is about finding the size your player is comfortable swinging.
Daveron
Is the 2019 DeMarini CF Zen-5 a balanced bat? My 13 year old is 5'1" 105 pounds. In 2018 he swung a 30" drop 8. What size do you recommend?
Chi
Yes, the 2019 DeMarini CF Zen -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB5-19 is a balanced model. Given your player's size, and that he is moving up to a heavier bat, I would recommend staying with a 30" bat.
Tyler
My 12 year old son is 5'2 - 5'3 weighing 120-125 lbs. He swung a 30 inch drop 8 last year, would you recommend 30 or 31 -5 for next year?
MP
Based on your player's height and weight, I would suggest a 31" 2019 DeMarini CF Zen -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB5-19.
Logan
Is there any issues with the life span of this bat if it is used with heavy practice baseballs? Very similar to the Total Control Ball (TCB).
R.Covarrubias
Any time you are using a ball that is more dense/heavier than a standard baseball you are certainly putting strain on the construction of a barrel. That is no different with this 2019 DeMarini CF Zen -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB5-19. It is a fully composite model, which means that it would be more likely to crack with the heavy practice balls.
Tyler
My son is 13 yrs. old, 5'8", and 165 lbs. What size bat would you recommend? He had been using a drop 8 as of this year.
tony
Based on your player's specifications, I would recommend either a 31" or 32" model of this 2019 DeMarini CF Zen -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB5-19.
Tyler
What size is the grip?
Baseball Dad
To our best knowledge, the 2019 DeMarini CF Zen -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB5-19 uses a 1.1 MM grip.
Cameron
My son just got this bat 2 months ago and I was told yesterday by a coach that this bat just became banned by USSSA . I know previous years models had been but I can not find any information on the 2019 being banned. Do you know if this has happen?
jim
We are not aware of anything that currently shows the 2019 DeMarini CF Zen -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB5-19 being a banned bat. At this time we are not showing, as of 8/24/18, anything on USSSA's website indicating as so.
Cameron
The experts below are giving conflicting information on the length recommendations. If a kid is 5'7" 160 lbs, is it a 32" or 33" -5? I am reading both.
Wes
For your player, I would recommend a 32" version of the 2019 DeMarini CF Zen -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB5-19.
Tyler
My son is 5'-7", and 170 lbs. He has been using a 32", end loaded drop 8 with no trouble. I am buying a bat now for next spring and knowing that the following year he will have to use a BBCOR -3. So I am leaning towards the 33" drop 5, to transition him to the BBCOR. However, the q&a above suggested a 32 inch bat for the same size kid. Any thoughts?
Buckeye Baller
It will come down to personal preference at the end of the day, but I believe if you son swings the 32'' drop eight with no trouble he could move up to the 2019 DeMarini CF Zen -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB5-19 in a 33''.
Max
Is this really a balanced model? On the DeMarini website the only 2019 CF ZEN -5 is not balanced and looks exactly the same as this one.
number5s mom
The 2019 DeMarini CF Zen -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB5-19 will be a balanced model.
Max
What size should I use? I am 5'5.5, 115 pounds.
nate
I would recommend a 31" version of the 2019 DeMarini CF Zen -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB5-19.
Tyler
How does this model compare to the 2017 CF Zen -5?
Ken
The 2019 DeMarini CF Zen -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB5-19 now incorporates 3-Fusion technology in the connection point, the Paraflex + Composite is also used in the construction of the barrel. This all works to create a more comfortable and complete model compared to the 2017 version.
Tyler
What is the difference between the CF Zen and the CF Zen Black? Is it just paint or are there other features that are different?
Scott T
This 2019 DeMarini CF Zen -5 USSSA Baseball Bat (WTDXCB5-19) and the newer CF Zen Black will be the same bats, but with differing cosmetics.
Ben
Does this bat have a 30 day guarantee like similar models on your website?
Nick
Unfortunately, the 2019 DeMarini CF Zen -5 USSSA Baseball Bat (WTDXCB5-19) does not feature a 30-day trial period.
John
After the model # what does the 19 stand for and the BL?
Coach M
The bat you are looking at is actually the DeMarini CF Zen BLACK -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB5-BL and not the DeMarini CF Zen -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB5-19. The "19" indicates the model year and the "BL" stands for the limited colorway release (Black).
Cameron
My son is 5'3" and 135lbs. he is very strong for his age. He currently swings a Demarini Vexum VX510 32/27 -5 and crushes it. Would staying at the same swing ratio be ok or should he move down to a 31/26 -5 or even move up to a drop 3 bat?
Mike
I would say if he's doing just fine with what he currently is using, then there's no need to change anything, so I'd stick with the 32"/27 oz size. I wouldn't move up to the -3 BBCOR models until he's required to.
Kyle J.
Is the -5 Zen permissible for HS play, or would my son have to go with a -3? Is the -3 Zen permissible for HS play?
Gary
High school rules require a -3 drop bat with the BBCOR certification. This -5 model would not be allowed for high school play. The -3 DeMarini CF Zen BBCOR is allowed.
Kyle J.
My son used a this bat in its 2018 USA 30 inch drop 10 version last season as a 12 year old. He is now 5’4 to 5’5 and weighs 119-120 lbs and 13 years old. Which size in this bat in USSSA certification do you recommend?
Jason
Based on your son's height and weight, I would recommend getting the 2019 DeMarini CF Zen -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB5-19 in a 32''.
Tori
Does the drop 8 or drop 5 have more pop?
blake barker
Based out of pure performance the DeMarini CF Zen -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB5-19 and the DeMarini CF ZEN -8 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB8-19 will be the exact same, because of the USSSA certification. If your player is able to swing the DeMarini CF Zen -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB5-19 as hard as the -8 or harder the DeMarini CF Zen -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB5-19 will have a greater performance because of the added mass used to hit the ball.
Max
I live in northern Minnesota and it's not unusual to be playing games when it's pretty cold (40's and 50's). Should I not be considering a composite bat?
BaseballDad
Any bat will be at a slightly higher risk of durability concerns in colder weather, whether that is alloy or composite. The ball becomes more dense, so it stresses the bat more on contact. That said, I would probably consider aluminum barrel models slightly more, since they do seem to be slightly more durable from our experience.
Kyle
When does the 2020 version of the CF Zen -5 come out?
Todd
As of today (4/8/19) we are not aware of when DeMarini will be releasing a newer model of the DeMarini CF Zen -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB5-19.
Cameron
Being that this model has a history of cracking/breaking, would it be wise to not hit this thing for cage sessions?
Big Dad
Since the DeMarini CF Zen -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB5-19 has been known to display some durability issues, it would be best to constrict the usage of this bat to game use only. That is assuming the player has an older bat to use for practice purposes.
Cameron
My son currently has the CF Zen -5 32". He has used this bat in the cages three times a week and two seasons of games. I think its time for another. He has grown, and he is now 5'9" and 135 lbs. Should he move up to 33" or stay at 32"?
Jennifer
I would probably suggest a 32", but a 33" could also work especially if you want a size for him to grow into.
Kyle
Is there anything different between the 2019 DeMarini CF Zen -5 USSSA (WTDXCB5-19) and the Black model other than the cosmetics?
Scott
No, there is no difference other than the paint job.
Kyle
What size would you recommend for someone who is 5’10” and 135 pounds?
Hdjdnfbfj
At 5'10" and 135 lbs, I would recommend the DeMarini CF Zen -5 USSSA Baseball Bat (WTDXCB5-19) in the 33"/28 oz size.

My son is moving up to middle school next year, so I’m looking to move him up to a drop 5. I’m considering the CF Black but he also likes the Easton Beast Pro (he’s always used Easton). There is obviously a big price difference but am wondering which makes more sense when factoring cost and durability. Any recommendations? Do you think we’d see a difference between the two? I’m all for getting him what will help him most but he likes the look of the Beast.
Mike
The DeMarini CF Zen -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB5-19 is a two-piece composite model with a balanced swing weight while the Easton Beast was a one-piece alloy model with an end-loaded swing weight. Both are good bats but with different swing weight feel. As well, the CF Zen, with it being a composite bat, may not hold up as well as the Beast. With regards to performance, would venture to say these two bats will be similar.

Is this bat end loaded?

My son is transitioning to a -5 bat. I need something that is not end loaded and more balanced for him. He is 90 pounds so not a real big kid. However, he needs to swing a -5 next year. Right now I have him swinging a -8 just to start the progression. Is this bat balanced?
Jamie
The DeMarini CF Zen -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB5-19 is a well balanced bat, and would be a great option for a player looking for a light swinging -5 model.
Logan
Does this bat break easily? Noticed some comments about that. Please let me know so I can purchase.
Jeff
The DeMarini CF Zen -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB5-19 has not shown the same durability issues as some of the smaller sizes at -8 and -10.
Cameron
My son is 5'1" and 95lbs, just turned 12yrs old, should I look at 30" or 31", given he currently swings a 30", -8, Cat8?
Joshua Shaw
Based on his height and weight, I would recommend getting the DeMarini CF Zen -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB5-19 in a 31''.
Tori
I’ve been using thirty one inch bats for all of my time playing baseball, which is seven years. Should I move up to thirty two?
Ben
Whether or not to move into a 32 inch DeMarini CF Zen -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB5-19 is more of how comfortable you are with the slight change in length and weight. We use a bat coach feature on our website that takes into consideration a player's height and weight to ascertain proper length.
Cameron
My son is 12 turning 13 in January. he is 5'-7" 145 pounds he has been swinging a 31-10 2019 CF Zen I am needing to get him a -5 for this coming season for certain tournaments we will be playing in. Should stick with a 31" or move up to a 32" -5 CF Zen
Jason
Based on his height an weight, a 32'' would normally be the recommended size. However, since you are moving him up so much in weight already, I would recommend keeping him at a 31'' in order to help make the transition as easy as possible.
Tori
How long does it take to break in?
Ben
A good barometer to break in the DeMarini CF Zen -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB5-19 is around 150-250 swings; these are swings off of a tee, soft toss, tee work, etc around 70% of max effort. Remember to rotate the barrel a 1/4 turn after each set of 10 swings.
Cameron
My son is 5’2 112lbs. What would be better 30/25 or 31/26?
Albert
Based upon your player's height and weight I would recommend going with a 31'' 26 oz in the DeMarini CF Zen -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB5-19.

About the Brand

In 1992, DeMarini Sports had something to celebrate. The three-year-old company had climbed a rung on the proverbial ladder of success, moving its world headquarters from a dirt-floored barn to a slightly larger metal shack. "It was a big move for us," recalled Ray DeMarini from the batting cage of DeMarini Sport’s present-day Bat Industrial Complex. "The new shop was larger, more storm resistant, and -best of all- it had a heater."

In the early days, DeMarini Sports hardly made a blip on the radar screen of softball. With no retailers and virtually no advertising budget, DeMarini grew steadily by selling high-performance bats directly to customers. While established companies made "juiced" bats for the pros and ordinary bats for the public, DeMarini focused on making one line of high-performance bats for pros and amateurs alike. This approach, combined with a passion for the sport, led to the greatest innovation in softball history - the world’s first multi-wall bat: the DeMarini Doublewall.

Released in 1993, the DeMarini Doublewall was the world’s first multi-wall bat. Like a modern golf driver or oversized tennis racket, the Doublewall had a giant "sweetspot," which allowed average players to hit like pros. DeMarini’s sales exploded, and before long opposing bat manufacturers to notice. DeMarini - a homegrown company led by a softball fanatic - had shaken the establishment silly.

To understand the rise of the DeMarini Dynasty, you need to know Ray DeMarini. A cult hero among avid players, Ray DeMarini emerged on the professional softball scene at the age of 40, a veritable geriatric among younger players. With a scientific approach to training, a batting speed of 96 miles-per-hour and a bombastic attitude, DeMarini fast earned a reputation as a savage competitor.

In June of 1987, ESPN launched a nationwide search for a hardcore player to advise on a series of instructional softball videos. When approached by producer Erich Lytle, the biggest boys in softball repeatedly spoke of a five-foot-seven softball giant—Ray DeMarini. DeMarini had mastered reflex hitting, a technique that drops the ball squarely between the infield and outfield. Impressed with DeMarini's knowledge and scientific approach to training, Lytle not only hired Ray as an advisor—he hired him as the host. Together, they produced Ray DeMarini's Reflex Hitting System, ESPN's most successful home video to date.

Having garnered national recognition through ESPN, Ray turned his efforts toward designing a high-performance bat for the masses. To accomplish this, he needed an engineer. "Not just an engineer," he said, "but a boot-strapping rocket scientist who could build an empire with pocket change." Ray's call was answered by Mike Eggiman. Having grown up on a farm, Eggiman was adept at making the most of a situation. Case in point: the company's first piece of automated bat-making equipment had the heart of an abandoned washing machine.

With Eggiman as Chief Engineer, DeMarini Sports delivered a series of industry firsts: the first multi-wall bat (Doublewall Distance), the first high-performance bat for massive players (Fatboy) and the first high-performance youth bat (Black Coyote).

In 2000, DeMarini joined forces with Wilson Sporting Goods to develop the next generation of hitting technology. Ray believed it was a perfect fit, as both companies shared a vision of developing game-enhancing equipment for avid players. What’s more, the companies had complimentary products: Wilson was the leader in gloves, balls and protective gear, while DeMarini made the world’s finest bats. According to Chris Considine, Vice President/General Manager of Wilson Sporting Goods: "The thing that struck me most about DeMarini was their passion for sports and their true competitiveness.

Within a year, DeMarini unveiled the industry’s first concept bat, the $35,000 F1. Secured under lock and key at the DeMarini Bat Industrial Complex in Hillsboro, Oregon, the F1 served as a technological storehouse for future products, including DeMarini’s landmark Half & Half system.

In December 2001, 12 years after the genesis of DeMarini Sports, Ray DeMarini died of cancer in his Northwest Portland home. He was 55. The next summer, the Portland Metro Softball Association paid homage to the “King of Softball” with the dedication of Ray DeMarini Field. Formerly known as Delta #1, the field was DeMarini’s favorite place to test bats during the early days of business. Ray DeMarini—bat maker and player extraordinaire—was remembered for his high-performance softball bats and unwavering encouragement of everyday players. Today, a 40-foot sign announcing RAY DEMARINI FIELD graces the outfield, and an interpretive display chronicling Ray’s life greets players as they register for games.

More "Insane Dedication to Performance" is in store for tomorrow.
