Little League Age Chart Division

The best time of the year is right around the corner; it's almost time to play ball! This means coaches and parents need to start thinking about signing their players up for Little League. However, if you have a kid with a summertime birthday, it's hard to know which age division they should be playing in. To help simplify the process, we've created an easy guide to help ensure you've got them playing in the right league.

How to Determine Little League Age

Use the Little League age charts below to determine the correct division for your baseball or softball player. Align your player's birth month with the year they were born to decide their proper Little League age.

What Are the Different Little League Baseball Divisions?

Tee Ball

Tee Ball is an entry-level league designed to teach players the rules of the game while learning the proper fundamentals of baseball. 

Minor League

In the Minor League division, players will experience a faster brand of baseball. The Minor League division will introduce players and coaches to coach pitch, machine pitch, and kid pitch rules. 

Major Division

The Major Division will require players to play on a diamond with 60-foot base paths and a 46-foot distance between the pitcher's rubber and home plate. All Major Division games will be played in a kid pitch format.

Intermediate (50/70)

Introduced in 2013, the Intermediate division incorporates 70-foot base paths and a 50-foot distance between the pitcher's rubber and home plate. All Intermediate division games will be played in a kid pitch format.

Junior League

The Junior League division is the first time players will play on the standard dimensions of a baseball field. Each baseball league in the Junior division will play games with 90-foot base paths and a 60-foot 6-inch distance between the pitcher's rubber and home plate. All games will be played in a kid pitch format.

Senior League

The standard baseball dimensions will be used in all league and tournament games. All Senior League games will be played in a kid pitch format.

  • Tee Ball [4 - 7 Years Old]
  • Minor League [5 - 11 Years Old]
  • Major Division [9 - 12 Years Old]
  • Intermediate 50/70 [11 - 13 Years Old]
  • Junior League [12 - 14 Years Old]
  • Senior League [13 - 16 Years Old]

Little League Baseball Age Cutoff

The age cutoff for Little League baseball is August 31. Any player born after August 31 will be considered a year younger by Little League baseball standards.

What Bats Are Legal in Little League Baseball?

Little League baseball requires hitters to use a bat that meets the USA Baseball Bat standard. Any non-wood bat must visibly bear the USA Bat stamp of approval in the bat's taper (between the barrel and the handle).

What Are the Different Little League Softball Divisions?

Tee Ball

This is an entry-level league designed to instill confidence in hitters while teaching fielders the fundamentals of softball. All young players are encouraged to begin in this softball division.

Minor League

The Minor League division teaches softball players more rules and expectations of the sport. Games will be played with coach pitch, machine pitch, and kid pitch formats based on your player's age and the league you choose to play in. The distance between bases will be 60 feet, while the distance between the pitcher's rubber and home plate will be 35 feet.

Major Division

The Major Division will require players to play on a diamond with 60-foot base paths and a 40-foot distance between the pitcher's rubber and home plate. All Major Division games will be played in a kid pitch format.

Junior League

The Junior League division is the first time players are introduced to the standard dimensions of a softball field. All games will be played with 60-foot base paths and a 43-foot distance between the pitcher's rubber and home plate. All games will be played in a kid pitch format.

Senior League

The standard softball dimensions will be used in all league and tournament games. All Senior League games will be played in a kid pitch format.

What Bats Are Required for Little League Softball?

Fastpitch Softball Bats have a 2" barrel diameter and a length-to-weight ratio between -8 and -13. These fastpitch softball bats are used in fastpitch leagues by players ranging in age from five years old to college-age and beyond. Fastpitch softball bats can be made of materials like aluminum, composite, and a combination of both (called a hybrid bat).
