How To Wrap My Lizard Skins Bat Grip

Bat Grip Removal

First, you’ll want to remove the manufacturer’s grip. This will be a pretty easy process. Start by removing the electrical tape at the top of the grip. Next, you will uncoil the bat grip. Once the bat grip is completely off you can apply an adhesive remover to rid the handle of any remaining glue. We recommend using an old rag for this portion. This is an important step to avoid bumps under the new bat grip and will be vital to correctly applying the new grip to your baseball bat.

Left-Handed Batter vs. Right-Handed Batter

As we go to apply the new grip, you will need to have the player primarily using the bat in mind. If you have a right-handed hitter you be wrapping the bat from left to right (counter-clockwise.) This can be easily done by holding the bat in your left hand and wrapping it with your right hand. Inversely, if your player is a lefty, you will need to wrap the bat from right to left (clockwise.) This is important. Failure to correctly do so will cause your player’s hands to apply pressure against the grain of the grip. As a result, the grip can raise up and develop an uncomfortable bubble.

Add the Bat Grip

Now grab a chair to sit in. While sitting, hold the bat between your legs with the barrel flat on the ground. Start by applying a tapered end of the bat grip to the base of the knob. Proceed down the handle in a spiraling manner. You will want to overlap the grip about ⅛”. Be sure to apply pressure, but be careful to not overstretch the grip. Once the grip runs out, apply the finishing tape evenly to secure the grip to the bat. Voila! You now have a flashy new bat grip that is sure to make your teammates jealous.
