Pros: This bat is simply amazing, everyone says you need an endloaded bat for power...this is not even close to being true with this bat being a baseball player converted to softball I love the balance of this bat. And it's got the pop for almost anyone to hit it out on our 310ft field. This bat is a must have for any team! Oh and the look of this bat under the lights is unbelievable! Great Job Worth!

Cons: Haven't found a single one.

Pros: Borrowed this bat from a buddy who is all about bats. Took 1 swing and the I could feel the wall collapse and launch the ball. I usually hit with the SCN9 and this is the longest shot I have hit with an ASA bat. I am definitely sold just trying to get a reasonable price from my buddy.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Worth 454 Legit ASA Slow Pitch Softball Bat: SB4LA? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

What is better, the 2013 454 legit, 2013 BJ Fulk ASA, or 2013 Resmondo ASA? rayray
You picked out some good ones! My personal choice is the Resmondo, HUGE sweet spot and tons of pop.
Linda
This may be a dumb question, but I just want to make sure. I know they are changing the rules, and this one says new for 2013, will it be legal for ASA and USSSA in both 2012, and 2013? Tyler
No question is stupid! With all the rule changes, your question is actually a good one, but yes, it is legal in both 2012 and 2013.
Linda
I play in a ASA league and I'm having a real hard time picking out a bat. Smithers
This new 454 Legit has just been newly released. This bat would be one of the top preforming bats for ASA. It has 2" added to the sweet spot and takes a lot quicker to break in. Take a look also at the Bass Mandingo and the COMBAT Avarice.
Ryan
What is the diffence between the Legit and the Toxic 454? scoop
The majority differnce in this years model from last years Toxic is going to be the cosmetic change. They changed the grip on them this year to a softer grip, but both share the same composite technology.
Ryan
Can you offer some input on which bat to choose between the two? This 454 Legit or Worth's BJ Fulk Mayhem ASA Slow Pitch Softball bats? I want the same explosiveness like the Worth Mayhem BJ Fulk SBMBJ2 Slow pitch Softball bat. I know its not ASA approved. Dtrain
If you want something similar to the SBMBJ2, then I would go with the BJ Fulk ASA model. It is an ASA bat, like you said, so it won't be quite as high performing as the USSSA version. The 454 Legit is a high performing bat as well, but the BJ Fulk ASA will be the closest comparison.
Tyler
Looking for the best ASA bat. I'm just not sure what to order. Hnoel78
There are a lot of great ASA bats out there this year. The SB4LA Worth 454 Legit is defiantly going to be a the top of the list. It is going to have a huge sweet spot with very minimal break-in time required.
Ryan
Just purchased this bat for the upcoming ASA leagues...Can this bat be used in a spring league under 55 degrees? Dtrain007
Since this is a composite barrel bat, it is not recommended to use in temperatures between 50-55 degrees or lower. This doesn't mean you absolutely can't use this bat in those temperatures. A higher number of damaged bats are recorded when being used in these cold temperatures.
Jennifer
What are the differences between the Legit and BJ Fulk ASA bats? Why is there a price difference and how is the duribility of both of the bats? JR
The 454 Legit has a larger/expanded sweetspot. This attributes to the higher price. Both have proven to be pretty durable bats thus far.
Tyler
I am looking for a good ASA bat. Would you recommend the Worth 454 Legit or the Miken Freak NXT Supermax? Eagle
That depends on what kind of bat you like to hit. If you like the feel of a balanced bat, then I would recommend going with the Worth 454 Legit. However, if you have a strong swing and prefer the feel of an end loaded bat, then I would suggest going with the Miken Freak NXT Supermax. Both bats are great bats and you can't really go wrong with either! It just comes down to what weight distribution you prefer.
Jennifer
Does this bat have the USSSA 2013 approval sticker? Nicci
Yes. The SB4LA has the new USSSA BPF 1.15 stamp.
Tyler
Why has it been discontinued? Coach E
The 2013 Worth 454 Legit ASA: SB4LA Slow Pitch is discontinued, and it is no longer in production. Worth has released the 2014 Legit Slow Pitch line, so they no longer produce the 2013 models.

About the Brand

Worth, Inc. can trace its beginning back to the year 1912, when George Sharp Lannom, Jr. purchased a tannery in Tullahoma, Tennessee and established the Lannom Manufacturing Company. Initially, the firm tanned leather for harnesses and horse collars they manufactured. However, as the automobile grew in popularity, the demand for the company's harnesses and collars declined, so Lannom shifted its manufacturing resources toward production of leather covered baseballs and softballs under the "Worth" brand, and men's leather dress gloves under the "Craig" brand.

Charles (Chuck) E. Parish joined Lannom in 1930 as a salesman and married G.S. Lannom, Jr.'s daughter, Martha Lannom several years later. Following Mr. Lannom's death, Parish acquired controlling interest in the company, which led to a division of company assets between himself and Lannom's son G.S. Lannom III. Lannom maintained the glove works while Parish, "The Baron of Baseballs," built the Lannom baseball business into the world's largest manufacturer of baseballs.

Upon graduation from Vanderbilt University in 1959, Chuck Parish's son, John, joined the Lannom organization. He persuaded his father to expand the company's Caribbean operations and enter the baseball bat business in 1970. In 1975, following the death of his father, John Parish took over the reigns of the company. Under his leadership, the company diversified and expanded its production line and developed the personnel, technical know-how, and physical facilities to become one of the largest and most financially sound manufacturers in the entire sporting goods industry.

The WorthSports Company was formally organized in 1975 as the sales and marketing arm for all sporting goods products and divisions of Lannom. In addition to the normal marketing functions, Worth also emphasizes and provides new product research and development. In fact, the emphasis placed on this development is largely responsible for Worth's leadership role in the sporting goods industry.

When Worth entered the bat business all bats were made from Northern White Ash. Worth then established wood mills in Pennsylvania and New York to provide the strong but relatively lightweight ash wood stock. Then directions were shifted to aluminum and other composites and in 1968 Lannom Manufacturing produced its first aluminum bat. The company's Jess Heald was primarily responsible for its development. The sale of aluminum bats to amateur baseball and softball players mushroomed in the 70's, helping Lannom achieve record results. In 1994, because of market demands, more emphasis was placed on the aluminum division and an expansion was completed in Tullahoma.

One of the first and most significant results of the R&D program was the development of the Polyurethane (Poly-X™) core for baseballs and softballs. This one innovation revolutionized the entire softball world; up to this time, the traditional softball core was constructed of cork and latex. Worth, through the use of "petrochemical" formulation, created a softball that was more consistent in performance and demonstrated extended durability, thereby setting the stage for the establishment of formal specifications and standards for the industry. More recently, the expanded research and development team has made another revolutionary addition to the aluminum bats called the SuperCell EST (Exterior Shell Technology) Bat.

One product Worth is very proud of is its RIF (Reduced Injury Factor) baseballs and softballs. Introduced in baseballs in the late '80's, the RIF design features a polyurethane center that makes the ball softer than the traditional yarn wound ball, while keeping the weight, size and liveliness. The balls are used mainly in youth leagues, where safety is of major concern. The technology is now being used in Worth softballs as well. New technology is constantly being developed to revolutionize the softball industry as we know it today.

In 2007, Worth was acquired by Jarden Corporation and is now a division of Rawlings and Jarden Team Sports.
