Pros: Very, very, balanced. As light as my drop 13. Tons of pop, huge sweet spot. I've used some of the best bats on the market S1, Voodoo 2013 , CF5, CAT 5, Triton, the list goes on and on. This bat is the best bat I've ever held its amazing. I beg you to get it. It will take your game to the next level.

Cons: Scratches very easily, used in a double header and already is scratched. For the money it shouldn't be happening but still performs amazingly.

Coach

Pros: Bought my 11U the CF5 29"/19 oz. He loved it. I got him the Black2 29"/21 oz. for Christmas. Now the CF5 never leaves his bag. He has better bat speed with the Black2 and says it feels lighter to swing, he also likes the grip a lot better. He says there is no sting off the handle or end shots. He will not even wear his batting gloves when swinging it says he doesn't need them with the grip on this bat.

Cons: Ha that's funny! None.

Pros: My son has used this bat in the early spring in 11U. The anti-spring/vibration technology genuinely works. Rather than dread cold weather at bats, he now is more aggressive than ever. I've seen lots of claims to provide this benefit through the years, but I can honestly say this time it truly works. The bat is so well-balanced that it feels lighter than the 21 oz it bears. Again, hats off to the manufacturer. Hopefully it will remain durable, but to this point no dents, although the bat shows wear and tear badly, which I know matters to some people.

Cons: None so far.

Pros: I swing a 23 ounce and it feels like the 20 I had 2 years ago great bat speed and more pop than 2013 CF5. Doesnt sting either.

Cons: Scratches very easily and actually have several dents and I'm only 31 games into season. Trying to have it survive 25 more games. Still has the same performace for the most part.

Pros: This bat has amazing pop, it's balanced and a little top heavy, which I like, has a huge sweet spot and the graphics are very sick, the two-piece construction gives you no absolutely no stingers!

Cons: All on my team want to use it! The only con is it chips a bit, but the old Marucci Black chipped more! Go out and buy this bat, you can't go wrong!

Pros: Balanced. Does not feel like it weighs 23oz. My 10 year-old hits the ball hard with this bat. Love the improvements. The knob weight is integrated and not a plastic screw on that holds the weight. Great sound off the bat. Wonder what Marucci will do with the Black 3? Drastic changes from the original Black.

Marucci Black 2 Senior TravelDad parent

Pros: Terrific balance. Swings like a much lighter bat. No sting. Ball jumps. Great sound. My son is 11. About 5' and 100lbs. Plays with a 30/22. Used to use the 2013 Easton XL1 and loved it but it finally cracked. Tried a Combat Portent but didn't get the feel he does with the Marucci Black 2. He's a strong hitter and this bat gives him so much confidence that he has been focusing on going opposite field. This season alone he has 3 HRs that way and loads more in left and center. 200' fences don't stand a chance. It's a can't miss thing.

Cons: Getting hard to find. Been using it for about 2 months and no complaints. Looking forward to moving up to a 31/26 for his 12U season.

Good bat for a short time Bo player

Pros: Loved the bat when it was new. Beautiful balance and grip, fantastic feel with good pop. It was my "Black Beauty"!

Cons: The performance did not hold up through a years use. I could care less about how it held up cosmetically, but the performance I care! The bat just lost it's pop, it's gone, never too be found again. Sounds like a hollow pipe now instead of a good alloy bat.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Marucci Black 2 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBB28? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Is this bat better than the DeMarini Voodoo or CF5? 30fke
Although all three are very good bats, there are some differences. The 2013 Marucci Black 2 and the DeMarini Voodoo are both two-piece hybrid designs with a composite handle and an alloy barrel. The main difference is the Voodoo has a slight end load and the Black is more balanced. The DeMarini CF5 is a two-piece full composite with a balanced feel. Though there may be some some slight material differences between the two manufacturers, all three are high performing bats.
Doug F.
How does the Black 2 stack up to the CAT 5? As far as barrel material and balance? Does this model also swing lighter then the weight? saltiey
The 2013 Marucci Black 2: MSBB28 Senior League bat will be different compared to the 2012 Marucci CAT 5: MSB2 Senior League. The CAT 5 will be a One-Piece Alloy design with a very balanced feel. It will feature a longer barrel for a bigger sweet spot and control. It will also have the Anti-Vibration technology. The 2013 Marucci Black 2 will be a Two-Piece model. It will use the new AZ3000 Aerospace Alloy in the barrel. The handle will be Carbon Composite. It will also feature the extended barrel and be very balanced during swings. This bat will use the Patented Unequal Kevlar-Reinforced Grip to eliminate any stinging. Both bats will come with a 12 month manufacturer's warranty.
Brandon
Could you please explain in detail the main differences between the Marucci Black 2 and the Marucci Team? rangersfan12
The Marucci Black 2 is a two-piece bat, and the Marucci Team bat is a one-piece bat. The Marucci Team is going to have a stiffer feel with a little more balance to it, which would be used by a power hitter. The Marucci Black 2 will have more flex when you swing it, and will be used for a contact hitter.
Noah
I was wondering if this bat would be good for leadoff hitters? Is this bat better than the first Marucci Black? greg

Damon
Does the Marucci Black have more pop than the Easton XL1? beast
Since the 2013 Marucci Black 2 and the Easton XL1 are both high end models, their performance and pop are going to be about the same. Both have a ton of pop. The XL1 is end loaded and the Black 2 is balanced.
Nick
How does this bat compare with the Rawlings Velo? Which is more balanced? Which do you recommend for a smaller contact hitter? Micah
Both the Rawlings Velo and Marucci Black 2 are similar in balance. The Velo is a one-piece bat, the Black 2 is a two-piece bat. It's always recommend that a player stick with the same type of bat they have used in the past with the most success. In doing so, the player is much, much more likely to have continued success at the plate.
Tyler

The 2013 Marucci Black 2: MSBB28 Senior League bat will come in -8 sizing and have a 2 5/8" barrel diameter. This bat will be a Seamless Two-Piece Hybrid design with an all Alloy barrel and Carbon Composite handle. The swing weight will be evenly balanced. Kara
Is this bat durable? Doe it scratch up easy? Beastie beast
The 2013 Marucci Black 2: MSBB28 Senior League baseball bat should be as durable as any other similar bat. As with any other composite bat the durability and life span of the bat will be dependent on how well it is broken in and how well the bat is taken care of.
Jeff
whats the difference between a two-pieace and a one-piece? harold
The main difference between one-piece bats and two-piece bats is that one-piece models are developed as one continuous piece of metal as opposed to being pieces bonded together. Two-piece models are created in two sections, a barrel and a handle, and then those two pieces are bonded together.
Tyler

Kara
Is this bat durable does it scratch up easy? nick
The 2013 Marucci Black 2: MSBB28 Senior League is very durable. We have not received feedback it scratches up easily.
Kara
How does a balanced bat help you? harold
A balanced bat is easier to swing and helps create increased bat speed. The Moment of Inertia is lowered on a balanced bat, which speeds up the swing speed. The 2013 Marucci Black 2: MSBB28 Senior League bat will be very balanced in swing weight. The opposite of a balanced bat is an end-loaded bat. An end-loaded bat will have a barrel heavy feel.
Brandon
What is the difference between the 2012 and 2013? paco

Is this a flex bat? rawingsprospects07
The 2013 Marucci Black 2: MSBB28 Senior League bat is a seamless two-piece hybrid designed bat. It will be evenly balanced in swing weight and have an extended barrel for a larger sweet spot. The seamless two-piece design will provide ample flex when swinging through the zone.
Brandon
My son plays competitive 11u. We are trying to decide between the Marucci Black 2 or the Louisville Slugger Vertex. I think the Vertex's lighter weight may help him wait just a bit longer on the ball. Do you think either bat would be a better performer than the other? Dinger
The Louisville Slugger TPX Vertex will have a lighter swing weight than the Marucci Black 2, but as far as performance goes both bats will be almost identical in that aspect.
Noah
Between this and the Easton XL2 which has the biggest barrel? This doesn't look as extended. BMH
Both have extended barrels in comparison to your average youth big barrel bat, but the XL2 is going to have a slightly longer barrel and a little more of an endloaded feel.
Tyler
I am on a 11U travel team, 5'0, 105 lbs. I loved the Easton S2 last year (30/20)and hit with power and want to keep that, but I wondered how the Marucci Black compares to the S2 when it comes to bat speed and power. David
The 2013 Marucci Black 2: MSBB28 Senior League is very comparable to the Eason S2. It is a two-piece bat with an alloy barrel and composite handle. It is going to perform similarly to the Easton S2.
Marcus
Is this bat legal for juniors little league 2013? Auto
Yes. The 2013 Marucci Black 2: MSBB28 Senior League has an alloy hitting surface and is legal in the Junior Division.
Tyler
Is it made in the USA? COLE TRAIN
No, the 2013 Marucci Black 2: MSBB28 Senior League bat is manufactured in another country.
Frank
Got a 12 year old playing elite ball. His batting average is about .580+. He bats 2nd and always makes great contact with the ball. He hits hard grounders or lines just over over the infield so he's not a very "powerful" hitter. Looking at the Black 2 or should he consider going composite? Looking for suggestions. Keith
Two-piece bats like the 2013 Marucci Black 2: MSBB28 are best suited for a contact hitter. The 2013 Marucci Black 2 has an extended barrel with upgraded alloy material and excellent pop.
Kara
Which bat will swing lighter? The DeMarini Voodoo 29" 20 oz. or the Marucci Black 29" 21 oz.? I just swung the DeMarini Voodoo and I was impressed, but it is a little too much end heavy for my son. Also just hit the Marucci Elite, it is too light in the barrel and I fell it lacks some punch. I would like the real scoop before we order a bat from you tomorrow. It is the DeMarini Voodoo or Marucci Black2 depending on swing weight. Sandlot
The 2013 Marucci Black 2 Senior League is definitely lighter that the DeMarini Voodoo Senior League. The DeMarini Voodoo is end loaded so I would go with the 2013 Marucci Black 2.
Chad M.
I am 13 years old and have a 29" 21 oz. CAT 5. I like the sound of the CAT 5, so how does the Black 2 compare? Eli
The 2013 Marucci Black 2: MSBB28 is a two-piece, seamless hybrid with an alloy barrel. It will sound similar to the one-piece alloy Marucci CAT 5.
Mac
Is the Black 2 an aluminum bat and is it approved for play in the Little League Juniors Division? It does not have the BBCOR stamp so I need to know that it is still an approved bat for my son's baseball at the Junior level. Steve S.
The 2013 Marucci Black 2: MSBB28 Senior League will be approved for play in your division. The Black 2 features an alloy barrel, it only requires a BBCOR stamp if it has a composite barrel.
Kevin
My son is trying to decide between the Marucci Black 2 or the Louisville Slugger Exogrid 3, which one is better? Baseball dad
Both bats are great and will be pretty close in performance. The Marucci Black 2 will give you more flex because of the two-piece design and the Louisville Slugger Exogrid 3 will give you a stiffer one-piece feel.
Noah
My son is deciding between the -8 Marucci Black 2 and -8 Combat Pure. He is in the 6th grade, 4'7", about 75lbs and using the 30/18 Combat B3 Gear Retro for the past 2 years. He is generally a contact gap hitter. The plans are to use a -8 through 7th grade and then get a -5 in 8th grade. My 4 questions are (1) Should he get a 30/22 or 31/23? (2) Which will swing lighter, Black 2 or Pure? (3) What is the length of the barrel of the Black 2 and Pure? (Just by looking at the pictures the Black 2 looks like it has a shorter barrel). (4) Which of these 2 bats do you recommend? Thanks! dedicated baseball dad
Based on his size and current bat, a 30" 22 oz. model is recommended. Both the 2013 Marucci Black 2: MSBB28 and 2013 COMBAT Pure: PURESL1 are balanced bats, but the Black 2 is known to have a slightly lighter swing weight. Exact barrel lengths are not available, but the Pure will have a barrel length that is about .5" longer than that of the Black 2. I would recommend the PURESL1 over the Black 2 for your son because it is more comparable to the B3 Gear he has been using and it's always recommend that a player stick with the same type of bat they have used in the past with the most success. In doing so, the player is much, much more likely to have continued success at the plate.
Tyler
Moving up a division in Dixie baseball next season plus my son plays 12U travel ball for an elite team. He will be moving up to 13U in the fall. He is a very big kid. 5'10 155 lbs. He swings a 31/21 Worth Legit for travel ball and was hitting bombs until we moved up to the elite teams (Better pitchers). At league ball he uses a CF4 -8 and hits 300' regularly. We have heard a lot about the Marucci Black and the Voodoo. What size and brand would you recommend? Coach RD
Both the 2013 Marucci Black 2: MSBB28 Senior League and the 2013 DeMarini Voodoo are both two-piece bats with composite handles and alloy barrels. The 2013 DeMarini Voodoo is more end loaded and would be best suited for a power hitter. Based on his height and weight we recommend a 32" to a 33" bat.
Kara
Is this legal for Babe Ruth League? Tom
The 2013 Marucci Black 2: MSBB28 Senior League will be legal for players ages 13 and up, who are allowed to use a 2 5/8" Youth Big Barrel bat. The Cal Ripken Division of Babe Ruth (ages 4-12), requires a 2 1/4" barrel, such as the 2013 Marucci Black 2: MYBB20 Youth.
Katie
I am 5'3" and 190 lbs. What size do you think I need? freight tain
Based on your height and weight, we recommend a 32" model in the 2013 Marucci Black 2: MSBB28 Senior League bat. For further information on sizing, please visit our Bat Coach at http://www.justbats.com/bat-coach/

I bought a 31/20 Black 2 on Saturday and took it to the cages with my 10 year old. After about 50 hits, he dropped it to pick up some balls and I heard a distinct rattle. I tried it, and there was no vibration if you hit sweet spot but definite rattle if you hit the ball off the end. Returned it on Monday and Dick's Sporting Goods made an exception to their bat rule because they thought for sure it was broken. Got a new one, unwrapped it in the store and saleguy dropped in on rug...perfect metallic solid ping sounds...what you would expect. Back to the cages, 25 hits ... and the rattle returned. My son then went on to get three solid impressive hits during the game. Marucci Customer Support has never heard of this issue. Anyone know if this is expected and is not actually an issue? Paul
Rattles like that are often caused by a small piece or pieces of epoxy glue used on the endcap. Sometimes after this resin hardens and the bat is used, a piece or two can break off and rattle around inside the bat. This is common in a lot of bats on the market. This will not effect the performance of the bat, but it is something that should be covered under warranty through Marucci. Also, if your batting cages use those yellow dimpled pitching machine balls, the likelihood of any bat developing a rattle will increase.
Tyler
I'm a contact hitter with some power. I bat 2nd in my lineup. What do you suggest for me? The Miken Triad, Easton XL2, or the Marucci Black 2? ryan
The 2013 Marucci Black 2: MSBB28 Senior League bat will help eliminate hand sting and vibration. It will also be very balanced. The Miken Triad will be a two-piece fully composite design that will also be super balanced in swing weight. The XL2 may feel too barrel heavy. I would recommend the Triad.
Brandon
What will have the most pop? The Miken Triad or this Marucci Black 2? ryan
The 2013 Marucci Black 2: MSBB28 Senior League and Miken Triad: STRI10 models both have extended sweet spots and feature the newest BPF 1.15 performance certification. They will have similar performance, but the flexes differ between models. The Black 2 has a stiffer flex than the Triad.
Mac
I am having a hard time deciding between the Marucci Cat 5 and the Marucci Black 2. Which one in your opinion is the better bat? cwhit14
Both are good bats. The Marucci Black 2 will be higher performing than the Marucci Cat 5 because of the composite handle.
Damon
What is the recommend way to break this bat in and how? Jim D
The 2013 Marucci Black 2: MSBB28 Senior League does not have a composite barrel and does not require a break-in period.
Kara
Is the Marucci Black 2 or the DeMarini Voodoo a better bat for a power hitter that weighs 160 pounds and is 5' 6"? mfine15
The 2014 DeMarini Voodoo and the 2013 Marucci Black 2 are both great bats that will be suitable for a power hitter, but the Voodoo will be slightly better, because of the end loaded design.
Noah

I am a contact hitter with a good amount of power. I am 4' 11" and I weigh 84 lbs. Would the Marucci Black 2 drop 8 be a good bat for me and what size will I need? baseball man
The Marucci Black 2 would be a great bat for a contact hitter with some power. A 30" model would be a good size for you.

I'm an all around hitter who's 5' 5", 100 pounds. Would you recommend the Marucci Black 2 or the Easton XL1? Baseballkid22
Most players benefit more when using a bat with a balanced swing weight bat speed. The 2013 Marucci Black 2: MSBB28 Senior League bat has an extended barrel length but still has a balanced swing weight. The more balanced the bat is, the faster the player can swing it. The XL1's slightly end loaded feel is best used by power hitters with high swing speeds.
Mac
Is this the best Marucci out right now? Baseballkid22
The Marucci Black 2 is a very high performing model, however the Marucci Elite will be the higher performing model.
Damon
I will be playing 14u baseball. Is -8 a good size if I will swing the Black 2? ajones10
The 2013 Marucci Black 2: MSBB28 Senior League will be a great bat to go with for 14u baseball. The -8 will help you transition to a heavier -3 BBCOR bat when the time comes.
Noah
Is the barrel composite? boo
The barrel of the 2013 Marucci Black 2: MSBB28 Senior League is completely alloy. This model has a composite handle and seamless design that gives it a stiff flex. The Black 2 is hot right out of the wrapper.
Mac
My Marucci Team has dented. Would I be able to get this baseball bat as a replacement? KG
The Marucci Team: MSB210 Senior League is covered by a 12 month warranty from Marucci. Typically, Marucci would replace a defective bat with the same exact model, rather than the 2013 Marucci Black 2: MSBB28 Senior League.
Katie
I have two questions. I have an 8 year old, 52-54" tall, 95-100 lbs. What length do you suggest? Also, what is the difference between a bat that is for contact vs. power? Is there really a difference? Chris
The 2013 Marucci Black 2: MSBB28 Senior League is a well balanced bat, which is a great fit for a contact hitter, as it will help to generate more bat speed which will increase power. Power hitters typically prefer a more end loaded model, as bat speed isn't an issue. For an 8 year old his size, I recommend a 30" model. At a -8 length-to-weight ratio, the Marucci Black 2 will be slightly heavy for most 8 year olds. I'd recommend a lighter model, such as the -10 2014 Marucci ONE: MSBY1014-BK Black Senior League.
Katie
When will the next 30 inch come in for this bat? ballislife23
The 2013 Marucci Black 2: MSBB28 Senior League is a discontinued model and is no longer being produced because the 2014 model (MSBB148) has been released. We cannot guarantee that we would receive any more of the Black 2 in any size.

My son used a 31/21 Rawlings Velo this past year. I'd like to move him to 31/23 next year. I know this bat is a two-piece, but how does it compare to the VELO in terms of balance, grip diameter, and pop? Scott
The Marucci Black 2 Senior League Baseball Bat: (MSBB28) will provide some added flex through the zone with the two-piece design. However, it will still have a very balanced weight distribution, and will also be able to provide some great power. Overall, both models will be fairly similar. The Marucci Black 2 Senior League Baseball Bat: (MSBB28) will be an excellent transition model.

My son has a 30"/22 oz Black 2, but he is growing out of it. Is Marucci going to come out with a Black 3 bat? Tim
Unfortunately, after the release of the 2014 Black edition bats, Marucci ceased using the "Black" name for models being made in the hybrid style (the one exception was when they made a 2015 "Black Ops" BBCOR bat). I am not sure if a Black 3 is in the works for 2017. For the current time being, Marucci has yet to release a new option of a Hybrid bat (alloy barrel and composite handle) with a -8 length-to-weight ratio.
