Description

Since 1884, Louisville Slugger has been on the cutting edge of bat technology. This year the TPX line brings a new dimension in performance technology to the table. The EXOGRID 2 is one of the most innovative bats to ever hit the market. This bat starts out with Louisville Slugger's SC21 Scandium Alloy which is one of the most durable and responsive alloys on the market. Moving toward the handle you'll find that the metal is trimmed into a grid-like pattern and replaced with carbon composite inserts. These inserts are several times stronger than the metal they replace which gives the EXOGRID 2 not only it's name, but it's unwavering durability. Inside the bat, the heart of the EXOGRID 2 can be found in the form of an internal carbon composite sleeve. This provides greater handle stiffness than alloy alone ever could. All of these parts are brought together using Louisville Slugger's EXOGRID Bi/Fusion Process, where a combination of heat and extreme pressure bond everything into a single, solid unit. The EXOGRID 2 has a 2 5/8 inch barrel and 7/8 inch standard handle with a synthetic grip. It is topped off by Louisville Slugger's patented Pro Cup End Cap. Louisville Slugger: Intimidate at the Plate! The EXOGRID 2 features the USSSA 1.15 BPF stamp and is backed by a Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty. Free Shipping!

Cons: It does get dirty quick...but is this really that big of a problem? Nothing else at all that we see wrong with it!

Pros: Great pop, awesome look and feel, son preferes it over every other bat out there--and we've tried them all. No sting and lots of line drives gap shots. Best of all--durability is top of the line with LS!

Cons: None, but did have to pick over the Vertex (tried both)--Exo is not as stiff, Vertex better for true power hitters. Both are top in class though!

Questions and Answers

is it ok to use next year. you know with banning rules. beef
This bat will be legal to use in leagues that mandate the 1.15 BPF and USSSA stamps on the bat. This is an illegal bat in high school play and any league that only allows BBCOR bats.
Brett
Will this bat be legal for next year? Riley
It depends on what league you play in. There are many different leagues out there and not all follow the same guidelines. If you play in USSSA, it does have the USSSA BPF 1.15 stamp making it legal for play next year.
Brett
is the 2012 exo the best exo they make gish
This Exogrid is going to be the newest Exogrid that is on the market. It uses the newest technology to give it an edge over previous Exogrids.
Brett
Is this bat bbcor approved EpicPenguin
No. BBCOR is a certification for adult bats and adult bats only. This is a Senior League bat that is not required to be BBCOR certified.
Brett
Is there going to be an H2 big barrel approved for 2012? rayray
When they first came out with the H2 there was a -9 version. I've not seen a 2012 model as of yet. Would be awesome, great bat.
mlb33
Does the 28" have a big enough sweetspot or should I just get the 29"? I worry that at 2-5/8" the 28" barrel may be too short. Thanks Brad
Between the 28 and 29 inch models there won't be a big enough difference in the sweet spot to make it crucial to go with the 29 ove the 28 inch. Just go with whatever weight you think he'd be best suited with.
Derek
CAN I GET -8 THK
The Exogrid2 is only available in -3, -5, -9 and -12.
John
This is only available in a -9.
KG
What will be the biggest difference in between the EXOGRID2/SL12EX2 and the 2012 Easton S2 SL11S210? This will be for 9u travel ball in 2012. Good contact hitter but also has decent power. Strong but small for his age: 50", 62lbs. Dack
If he is smaller, the S2 might be better balanced for him. The Exo is an excellent bat, just slightly end weighted.
Linda
Will this bat be legal in Babe Ruth 13-15 year old in 2012? Can you send me the link showing approved? inquisitive
Only composite barrel bats are allowed, this bat has an alloy barrel. Here is the link to the newest 2012 rules. http://www.baberuthleague.org/resources/CompositeBatMemo.htm
Linda
What bats meet these bat ruls? 13U and 14U ? BIG BARREL (2 5/8' or 2 ¾') ? Bats that have the 1.15 BPF stamped on the bat. Stickers will not be enough proof that the bat meets the standard. ? Those bats that have a BBCOR mark permanently attached to the bat that is recognized by OHSAA as a legal bat. OHSAA rules require -3 Drop, but not all COYBL 13U and 14U players play School baseball so COYBL will allow -5 or -3 bats as long as -3 bats meet the BBCOR certification. The -5 Bats will need to be 1.15BPF rated. Ray
Without knowing the specific league you play in, I don't know if this bat is leagal.
Kara
How is this weighted compared to the Combat 3? I know it's early, but which one has more pop? How about the difference in barrel length? Thanks! Indyball
I would say they are close, the COMBAT might be slightly more balanced.
Linda
Should i get the exogrid2 or the Omaha? What is the biggest size you can get? How big is the sweet spot on this bat? batboy
The Exogrid2 is Louisville's top of the line bat that will perform better than any other bat in Louisville's line. So, if you want a top tier that performs great the Exogrid would be a good option. The Omaha is also a good bat known for being pretty durable. A 32" 23 oz. bat will be the biggest size the SL12EX2 is available in.
TJ
is this bat legal for Juniors - Little League? Is it considered an Alloy/Aluminum Bat? David
It is an alloy bat with composite inserts in the handle.
Linda
If the rules in my league say that the barrel has to be a non composite is this legal with the ussa stamp? exofan
Yes. This is one piece all alloy bat that is legal for USSSA in 2012.
Kara
Is this bat a enloaded bat or balanced bat. SR
From hearing from customers this is a well balanced bat.
John
Dose this bat have an approved for pony league stamp? Dave
In Pony Leagues any 2 5/8" barrel non-wood bat (that is not a -3) can be used at any level of play. This bat does not feature an "approved for Pony League stamp" but will be approved.
Kris
What does MOI stand for? Ryan
MOI stands for Moment of Inertia.
Brad
How does this bat compare to the S1 Easton from a performance perspective? KA
The S1 has a lower MOI which means it has a lower swing weight. The S1 is also a two piece bat that will offer more flex through the zone. As far as performance, it depends on what type of hitter you are. The S1 is probably better suited for a player looking to improve their bat speed or someone who isn't quite as strong. The Exogrid2 would be better suited for a stronger hitter.
Tyler
Is this bat BBCOR? YMCMB
The SL12EX2 is not BBCOR certified. Only Adult bats with a -3 drop are BBCOR certified. The 2012 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID2 BBCOR: BB12EX2 Adult is BBCOR certified.
Kara
Are these bats approved for use in Pony League baseball? JD
Yes, it is approved for use in Pony League.
Kara
Is this considered a composite bat? Sluggo
This is not considered a composite bat. It is an alloy bat that features carbon fiber inlays on the handle.
Jennifer
What size is recommended for a 5'2,130 pound 12 yr old boy? Chris
Based on his height and weight, I would recommend a 31 inch 22 ounce SL12EX2.
Tyler
How many swings does it take to break this bat in? CJ
The 2012 Exogrid2 does not require a break-in period. This bat is constructed of AC21 Scandium Alloy and is at max pop out of the wrapper. Here is the link to view more details about the TPX Exogrid2. http://www.justbats.com/product/2012-louisville-slugger-tpx-exogrid2--sl12ex2-senior-league/13621/

will this bat be legal for play in juniors and usssa 2012 and 2013 tpx man
The TPX Exogrid2 SL12EX2 does feature the USSSA stamp making it legal for play in 2012. I can't forsee what will happen in 2013, but we try to keep our customers updated on any changes with the rules and regulations as soon as they are presented to us.
Derek
Could I use this bat in the cage because it has an alloy barrel? dylankeola
If you use real baseballs in the cage, then the SL12EX2 would be just fine to use. Just make sure you stay away from those yellow dimpled pitching machine balls and only use real baseballs.
Tyler

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
