Pros:  Great feel and very balanced. My 11 year old changed from an S3 to the Vertex last week and this bat is hot from day one. There is by far the best bat we have owned.

Cons:  We didn't have this a year ago.

Pros:  Great pop right out of the box. Looks awesome. I've gotten a lot of questions and comments about it too. Feels lighter than other 28/18 bats I've swung with.

Cons:  None at all

Would you compare this bat to the Easton MAKO?

The Louisville Slugger TPX Vertex XL (SL13VXL) and the 2014 Easton MAKO (SL14MKB) are both very high performing bats. The MAKO will have a slightly longer barrel, but will require a break-in. The Vertex will be game ready. The two-piece design of both bats is ideal for a contact hitter.

Can you use the Louisville Slugger TPX Vertex in Babe Ruth?

The Louisville Slugger TPX Vertex model that is approved for Babe Ruth league play would be the Youth model (YB13V). Here is a link to that bat:

My son is a typical No. 2 hitter (good contact hitter with speed, but no real HR power). He struggled with bat drag using the Easton XL3. I am trying to find a good balanced bat that would suit the type of hitter he tends to be. Would he be better off with the TPX Vertex XL or the COMbat B4 Portent XL? Thanks.

The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Vertex XL: SL13VXL Senior League is a great option for a contact hitter. The balanced, two-piece design is best for a contact hitter. One-piece bats like the Easton XL3 and the COMBAT B4 Portent are better for a power hitter.
