Yes, the 2013 Easton S1: SL13S110 Senior League requires a break-in period. You should take approximately 150 to 200 soft toss swings or hits off a tee, rotating the barrel a quarter inch every swing to break in the composite materials.

The Easton S1 is a composite bat that requires a break-in period of 150-200 hits off a tee. Start at about 40% power, gradually increase, and be sure to rotate the bat a half inch in your hands between each hit.

The 2013 Easton S1: SL13S110 Senior League will be a Two-Piece all composite designed bat. We suggest to break-in this bat you take soft toss or tee work at around 100-200 swings before any heavy game use. By breaking in the composite fibers you won't see any damage to the bat and the performance will tend to be much higher. Over time, the more swings you put on this bat the better it will perform. It will act as a trampoline effect. Where as an Aluminum Alloy barrel bat will be the best right out of the wrapper and slowly lose its pop over time.

All you have to do is rotate the bat a half inch between each hit. You do not have to be exactly at a half inch as it does not matter if you're off by a little bit.

Big barrel bats are almost always going to be heavier models than youth small barrel bat. Big barrel bats have more surface area for contact and a larger sweetspot.

The Easton S1 is balanced and designed for the contact hitter, whereas the Easton XL1 is more end loaded and designed for a power hitter. Therefore the S1 would be the better bat for you.

The 2013 Easton S1: SL13S110 Senior League bat will swing true to it's weight. There are some sizing options available. We currently have the 30" 20 oz. and the 31" 21 oz. If you were in the 30" last year I would think about the 31" this season.

The Easton S3: SL11S310 Senior League replaced the RIval. Normally one-piece bats like the Rival and S3 are better suited for power hitters. However, if he has had great success with the Rival, we would recommend the S3. The 2013 Easton S1: SL13S110 Senior League is designed for contact hitters.

Depends on what association the league is governed by. Some require the USSSA 1.15 stamp (which this has), while others require BBCOR certification (which this does not have). It would be best to check with your son's coach for bat requirements.

My 10 year old used the DeMarini Vexxum in a 30/20 in Summer 9u and Fall 10u. He is a contact hitter with average power. Would you recommend the S or the XL for him in Spring 10u and should he stay at 30/20? Thanks in advance. JT
The DeMarini Vexxum and the Easton XL1 are both end loaded, better designed for a contact hitter with some power. If he needs quicker bat speed we would recommend a more balanced bat like the 2013 Easton S1: SL13S110 Senior League. The S1 is recommended as it is always recommend that a player stick with the same type of bat they have used in the past with the most success. In doing so, the player is much, much more likely to have continued success at the plate.

This is common with many manufacturers. Easton, along with many others weigh their bats before the final stages of production and bats can weigh a little more than advertised because of this.

The 2013 Easton S1: SL13S110 Senior League replaced the Easton Omen. It will have upgraded composite materials and will be more balanced than the Easton Omen. The DeMarini CF5 is also balanced. They are both excellent choices.

With your son's given weight and size we suggest a 28" bat. If you want to add bat speed over time you could go with a 29" 19 oz. bat. The 2013 Easton S1 is a great bat and is perfect for him. It's low M.O.I. generates speed and equals power.

The 2013 Easton S1: SL13S110 Senior League bat will be a Senior League model with a big 2 5/8" barrel. It will come in a -10 length to weight size. The YB13S1 will be the same bat design in a Youth version with a smaller 2 1/4" barrel diameter. It will come with a -12 length to weight ratio. At 6 years old he should probably be using the -12 Youth Easton S1.

We do not recommend using any bat, including the 2013 Easton S1: SL13S110 Senior League, with those yellow "dimple" cage balls. Those balls are much more dense than a baseball, and could damage or reduce the useful life of your bat.

Composite bats to like the Easton XL1 (SL14X15) or the Easton S1 (SL13S110)do require a break-in period in order to ensure maximum performance. If you do 150-200 hits off a tee or soft-toss. Start at about 40% power and gradually increasing as you get closer to the 150 swing mark. Make sure you rotate the bat a quarter of an inch between each hit to ensure an even break-in.
