The Historical Society knew his shop included an old lathe and they asked if he could make some bats typical of the 1860s. Not only did Lefty's team like the bats but the teams they were playing started asking to make bats for them as well. Over the next couple of years Lefty's "hobby" grew from just historic bats to include a few modern bats as well.
