Pros: My son plays 10 Major. The Marucci Hex Connect -8 has lived up to the hype so far. Once it is fully broken in I expect it to be even better. We have had this bat about 2 weeks and I am impressed on how its has performed. I know the durability is there as we have used Marucci exclusively for the last 3 years......best customer service in the industry.

Pros: ball jumps right of this bat . we have XL1 cat7 917 combat maxum . after this bat breaks in there is no comparison. my 11 year old hit 2 homers first day and many more after .

Cons: scratches up easy . I feel bad for pitchers . someone could get hurt lol . but for real .

Pros: its got really good pop not much time to break in. also connect part makes it where there is no vibration.

Cons: so the first bat i had it lasted two months before it cracked. used my warranty and got a new one. the one i got from marucci lasted only 1 month before cracking again. very dissapointed

Pros: Great composite bat. Has a solid sound and is hot right out of the wrapper. I'm 4'10" and weigh about 85 lbs. Hit a 210' fence using the first tournament. Swung the -8 bat trying to work my way down to a drop -3 before high school. 6th grader now.

Cons: Paint chip marks but overall still looks great after 6 months of use.

Cons: only lasted 30 pitched and surface cracks . after 2 games and 1 practice the bat is now on its way for a return because the crack grew to 4" and paint is split where its not usable .

Pros: My 12yr old plays Majors used for nearly a month before Barrel broke. Up until then it had excellent pop. He was bouncing the ball off the fence at 300ft easy.

Cons: Hard to get good pop when the Barrel shatters. Only used a handful of times. In the process of getting a replacement. May need to go to a drop -5 for added strength.

Pros: My Son is 11 and had been swinging a 29 drop 8 2018 CF Zen. We got this bat and he felt it was very similar to the Zen out the wrapper. We have a marucci Cat 5 29/21 and have loved its durability and pop, I placed a 4 on durability as we have only had it for 2 weeks, but not issues at all.

Pros: My 12 year old loves this bat! He moved from a drop 10 to this drop 8 and i can see the difference. Balls coming of the bat are a lot harder. This bat has good balance and incredible pop. Other kids on the team are now using it with similar results.

Cons: Every ball mark is seen on the white barrel and the lettering is flaking away after a few weeks of play.

Cons: Bought the bat to for use in USSA tournament play. Hit approx. 400-500 balls off the tee and soft toss before using it for live pitches. The bat is still dead. Our biggest kids still do not get any distance with this bat. We use several different brands of bats that are far less expensive with way better results. Save your money and buy Combat, Easton, or Rawlings. More durabler bats with more pop. Waste of my money.

This bat would be legal for the 13-15 year old division and older. Cal Ripken requires 2 1/4" barrel bats, so this would not be legal for that league.

The 2017 Marucci Hex Connect -8 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBHCX8 features a 2 3/4" barrel to allow players a heavier option, while maintaining the larger barrel diameter. The bat will benefit from a break in period, usually about 150-200 swings off a tee or soft toss, rotating the bat in between swings before hitting off live pitching.

How will the -8, 2 3/4" version compare to the -10? Should you expect more pop with the heavier bat if you can generate plenty of bat speed? Just trying to decide between the 2 bats and the 2 5/8" CF Zen. bigbbats

If bat speed is equal, the heavier bat will always produce more power. We always recommend swinging the heaviest bat that you can handle with good bat speed which will allow for best power results. Both the Marucci Hex Connect and the DeMarini CF Zen will be high performing bats.

Since the Cat line of bat has been around for more years than the Hex Connect line of bat, I would typically suggest the Cat bats over the Hex Connects. However, the Hex Connect bats have gotten great reviews so far and if you want the -8 length-to-weight ratio combined with a 2 3/4" barrel diameter, I would recommend this 2017 Marucci Hex Connect -8 Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBHCX8) very highly. Both the Cat 7 (-8) and this Hex Connect (-8) are well balanced, have shown decent durability and can create power.

Marucci will not be releasing a 2018 version of this 2017 Marucci Hex Connect -8 Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBHCX8). The next Hex Connect model that will be released is going to be a part of the 2019 release. That release should come out in the summer/fall of 2018.

Would this be a good bat for a smaller (4"11', 90 lb) 13 year old who plays travel/select ball? He is not a power hitter but does hit well. This bat is a two-piece fully composite design with a balanced swing weight and would be an excellent bat for a smaller 13 year old. Would certainly recommend a -8 model for a 13 year old as this will help him transition to BBCOR bats that are required in high school (-3 length to weight ratio).

There is no hard rule about using bats in cold weather, but we here at JustBats generally recommend about 45-50 degrees as the cutoff to where you would probably want to use a practice bat or secondary bat if you could. This bat is a composite model so it will require a break-in period of about 100-200 swings off a tee or soft toss before game use.

Weight is difficult for us to recommend as their are other factors such as strength, hand placement on the bat, swing efficiency, etc that all affect that. We do recommend swinging the heaviest bat you can while still maintaining good bat speed, as that will provide the best power. I would probably lean towards a -10 model since that is the most common for 10 years old.

The main difference between this 2017 Marucci Hex Connect -8 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBHCX8 and the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78 is that the Connect is a multi-piece fully composite bat while the Cat 7 is a one-piece alloy model. The Connect will be more comfortable on contact, but require a break-in period before reaching a peak performance threshold. Both are held to the same USSSA standards and therefore there really will not be a noticeable performance difference between the two.
