Pros: This bat has an incredible amount of pop! i was skeptical at first because of the fact that the alloy in this bat is lower grade than the regular cat 5. I soon realized that there was no reason to be skeptical. In my first at bat i hit a home run. I went 3 for three in that game. This bat is great for Power hitters. Also the shipping was great! I ordered it on Sunday and got in on Wednesday!

Cons: Paint has chipped a lot considering my three game use so far. However you wont regret buying this bat for $80!

Swing BBCOR

Pros: Hot bat, drop 5 with same paint job as BBCOR model and "PRE" placed before BBCOR in same font, coincidence?

Cons: Cleverly marketed by Marucci for transistioning 13s but swung by many "elite" 14s who want to swing a hotter bat in tourneys that allow 1.15 that looks like the BBCOR model. Do your kid a favor, get him a BBCOR as early as he can swing a drop 3, swinging this too long is just an illusion.

Is it a big barrel? tyler539104

Both of these bats are very similar. The PREBCOR bat is a new bat that Marucci has come out with to help people make a smoother transition into the -3 adult bat that is required for high school. The main difference in these two bats is the material they are made out of. The PREBOCR is made with a lower grade material, while the MSB25 has a higher grade alloy. It is still a very durable bat, it is just a more affordable option.
Jennifer
Is there a difference between this bat and the other Marucci sr league bat? They look identical in specs. Rick

Would PREBCOR be legal in a middle school conference that requires BBCOR? Jack
If your middle school requires a BBCOR bat, then the PREBCOR will not be legal. This bat is not BBCOR certified. It was designed to help with a smoother transition into a BBCOR bat, but it cannot be used in place of a BBCOR bat. Only adult -3 bats will be BBCOR certified.
Jennifer
Is this a legal bat for high school baseball? BBCOR, I thought you could only be a -3. COACH

Patrick
What does PREBCOR stand for? Cabby Fan 24
The PREBCOR bat was made to help players transition into the feel of a BBCOR bat. This just indicates that it is a good bat to help make that transition from a youth or youth big barrel bat into an adult BBCOR approved bat.
Jennifer
I like the regular Marucci but I will only use this for two years before I use BBCOR. I dont want to spend a lot of money, so would this be good for me? Evan Longoria's son ( I Mean It )

Do you have to use BBCOR bats for middle school? master of disguise
This is something you would have to check with your school on. There are a majority of middle schools that follow high school rules in which you would be required to use a BBCOR bat. However, there are some middle schools that do not follow high school rules, so you would really need to check with your coach to see what rules your middle school league follows.
Jennifer
what is the difference between this bat and the senior league -5 marucci cat 5 pujols#5
The Marucci CAT 5 PREBCOR: MPBC Senior League will perform more like a BBCOR bat than the Marucci CAT 5: MSB25 Senior League.
Zach
So if I understand your answers correctly, the PREBCOR is made from a less responsive aluminum and for that reason it responds more like a BBCOR bat? I'd rather have the -5 senior league, but everybody is sold out of them at 31" so I'm trying to determine if I should just get the PREBCOR because that one is actually availabe. Just trying to determine exactly what the differences are, sounds like quality of aluminum is only difference? JB
You are correct. The PREBCOR is made with a different type of alloy than just a regular -5 senior league CAT 5. This bat is made to perform more like a BBCOR bat in order to help make a smoother transition into those bats as a player gets older.

The Marucci CAT 5 PREBCOR: MPBC Senior League bat is a great option for a player around 12 or 13 years old. If you've swung a -5 wood bat with success, then you shouldn't have problem with the -5 Marucci Cat 5. A 30" model would be recommended.
Tyler
What group is the PREBCOR bat good for? The Normal Drop 5 Marucci should be brought back. Specifically what is the difference? GHa75

Composite versus aluminum is very much a personal preference. The main difference between the two is that composite barreled bats require a break-in period of about 150-200 swings, whereas aluminum barreled bats do not require a break-in period.

There is no break in time with the CAT 5 PREBCOR. This bat is constructed out of alloy material, and would be hot out of the wrapper. The Marucci CAT 5 PREBCOR: MPBC Senior League uses a lower performing alloy than the Marucci CAT 5: MSB25 Senior League. Therefore, Marucci CAT 5: MSB25 Senior League will perform better.

I am 12 years old, 5'5", and weigh around 105 pounds. My coach recommended this bat to me and I want to use it for at least a year. Should I get the 31" 26 oz. model or the 32" 27 oz. model? alex the great
Based on your height and weight and the amount of time you want to use the bat for, I would go with the 32" 27 oz. Marucci CAT 5 PREBCOR. This size will be good, even if you grow in the next year.
Nick
My son is 11 years old and is 5'4", 140 pounds. Would this be a good bat for him to move to? He has been using a 31" 24 oz. bat for about a year now. What size would you recommend? Does it have the new USSSA stamp? fast
The Marucci CAT 5 PREBCOR would be a great choice for your son. It is a good transition to the BBCOR models that are -3. The recommended size would be a 31" 26 oz. Yes, it does have the new USSSA 1.15 BPF stamp on the taper of the bat.
Nick
Is this bat good for 5"2 130 lb majors player ? Beast first basemen
That depends on which "Majors" you are referring to. There are many different leagues with a variety of different rules. Please give us a call at 1-866-321-2287 or email us at support@justbats.com.
Tyler
Do you have a Marucci 29" and 19 oz. length? angelo
The Marucci Cat 5 PREBCOR only comes in a drop 5. The Marucci Team Series would come in a 29" 19 oz. size.
Damon

My son will be playing 14-U this summer & is 5' 6", 130 lbs. Last year he used a CAT 5 drop 8. I am considering the pre-bcor. Do you think this bat is appropriate? Thank you. Chip
Based on his age and size, a 32" -5 bat is recommended. It's always recommend that a player stick with the same type of bat they have used in the past with the most success. In doing so, the player is much, much more likely to have continued success at the plate. Thus, the Marucci CAT 5 PREBCOR: MPBC would be an excellent choice.
Tyler
Is this bat legal for 2013? Preston
For USSSA, the Marucci CAT 5 PREBCOR: MPBC Senior League bat is legal for 2013.
Aubrey
My son just turned 13, is under 100 pounds and almost 5ft tall. He is used to swinging an Easton Omen 30-20. Will this bat be good for him? What size Mom
The Marucci CAT 5 PREBCOR: MPBC is one of the better and most popular -5 bats on the market and would be an excellent choice. A 30" model would be recommended.
Tyler
is this bat legal in mckinney little league baseball? Preston
Unfortunately, the McKinney Baseball Association does not have their rules posted online. I recommend asking your coach or league official.
Tyler
For the Cat 5, what is the difference between the -5 PREBCOR and just the -5. bandits20
The PREBCOR is a transitional bat from Senior League bats to a traditional BBCOR. The barrel is designed to perform much like a BBCOR bat. The non PREBCOR -5 will perform more like a traditional Senior League bat so it may have a little more pop but it won't be as good of a transitional bat.

My son will be playing 14u. He is 5'5, 100lbs. He used a 29/19 last year. What size would you recommend? bdubb
Based on his size, a 31" model of the Marucci CAT 5 PREBCOR: MPBC is recommended.
Tyler
Is this bat too heavy for my son? He will be 10 1/2, 80lbs, 4'10"? Allowable bats are 30", 2 5/8 diameter and no composite. DP
The Marucci CAT 5 PREBCOR: MPBC Senior League is a -5 and will be too heavy for a 10 year old. We recommend a -10 youth big barrel bat. Check out this link for some great choices: http://www.justbats.com/products/baseball%20bats~youth%20big%20barrel/length~30%20inch/length%20to%20weight%20ratio~-10/barrel%20diameter~2%205-8/material~aluminum/

My grandson is in 14U and is 5'10 about 130 lbs. First of all, are these PREBCOR bats allowed in 14U competition play? And do you think the 32/27 a good fit for him? DUB
Each league has different rules in that age group. Most leagues require a BBCOR -3 bat. We recommend checking with the local league official for specific rules.
Kara
Does this bat have trampoline bounce my coach says if it does I can't use it ? Preston
I've never heard of any rules like that. I would ask your coach for clarification on your league's bat rules, then get back to us.

Tyler
What is the difference between the Marucci CAT 5: MSB25 Senior League bat and the Marucci PREBCOR bat? Wendell
The Senior League bat will have better performance because it is designed as Senior League bat while the PREBCOR is designed to respond more like a BBCOR bat.
Jeff
What exactly is PREBCOR? How does this bat compare to the Louisville Slugger, TPX Exogrid, and the Easton XL1? Steve
The Marucci CAT 5 PREBCOR: MPBC Senior League simply performs more like a BBCOR bat would. Therefore, it won't have as much pop as the TPX Exogrid or the Easton XL1.
Zach

Marcus
I am looking at buying a Marucci Team PreBCOR 31 inch 26 ounce Senior league for my 13 year old son to use in Dixie Boys Baseball this year. Is this a decent bat for him to start getting use to the weight for high school in two years where it can only be -3 BBCOR? Also, what are the overall ratings for this bat? Josh
Both the Marucci CAT 5 PREBCOR Senior League Baseball Bat (MPBC) and the Marucci Team preBCOR Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBT5) would be nice options to try to get a player used to a heavier feel more similar to BBCOR certified models. I am not sure whether you are asking about the rating for the TEAM or the CAT 5 that you asked the question about. Both are well reviewed and compare fairly similarly.
