Description

**As of 6/6/2012, the 33" and 34" length Marucci Blacks are no longer approved for NCAA play** These bats are still allowed for play in High School baseball. Introducing the classiest bat to ever hit the field, the Marucci Black. Combining a longer barrel with big league balance and a sleek design, the Black offers everything players could want in a top of the line bat. Constructed using Marucci's patented new two-piece design, the Black fuses an AZ3000 Alloy barrel with a composite handle. The composite handle on the Black is made extra stiff so that players can hit for maximum power, while Marucci's AZ3000 Alloy is ultra-responsive and provides the industry's best combination of performance and durability. The barrel on the black is made extra-long which results in a larger sweet spot and increased trampoline effect. The Black also features unprecedented big league balance, which means that players don't have to sacrifice swing speed for a bigger barrel. A reduced M.O.I. gives the bat a lighter swing weight for increased swing velocity, and ultimately more power. Marucci also brings their popular anti-vibration knob to the Black which, combined with the bat's two-piece construction, effectively eliminates negative vibration to give players maximum confidence and comfort at the plate. In addition, the Black BBCOR does not use "rings" or "governors" inside the barrel, as these tend to break off and create problems for players. Instead, the walls are thickness tuned using careful attention to detail to create the hottest BBCOR certified bat on the market. Marucci: Taking Baseball By Storm! The 31" and 32" Black are BBCOR Certified and approved for high school and collegiate play. It is backed by a Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty. Free Shipping!

Pros: This bat is extremely balanced. I have swung a couple different BBCOR bats and they tend to be endloaded. Marucci seems to have the balance down. Graphics are really cool. I used to swing the CAT 5, but decided to go with a two piece. First hitting session I felt the bat performed better than expected. Similar pop in the barrel to the CAT 5, but the Black has a little more flex. Great all around bat. Highly recommend.

Cons: None yet. Black bats have a tendency to look bad after hitting for awhile. Hope the paint does not chip

Pros: Absolutely sick bat. Just received it in the mail today. Huge pop for a bbcor, and has some flex to it to. The knob actually works to prevent vibration, and the grip is very sticky. It will take some getting used to, if never owning a bbcor before though.

Cons: none yet

Pros: Just tried this bat today at a BBCOR demo day and out off all the eastons and demarinis and all the bats, the black was the best. if you already have a quick swing, this is the one. It flies off the bat more than any one i tried. I will purchase this soon

Cons: not much people respect marucci as a metal bat, and its hard to find in stores, gotta order it here

Pros: Me personaly as a power hitter i prefer this bat over the bats is because it feels great and hits just like a meatl bat the ball really takes off this bat no joke. All hitters should have confidence with this particular bat.

Cons: But then again it isnt quiet as good as a meatl bat you still have to muscle up on the ball for it to go

CarolinA BabY !

Pros: Good feel when contact is made on sweet spot, the price isn't too bad.

Cons: It's BBCOR and all BBCOR bats are made to perform basically the same. They have pretty much the same pop as well as a small 3 inch sweet spot- all are made to specific specifications to reduce the quality for safety reasons. I'm reading the delusional reviews claiming "Company A's Bat" has great pop(same as a BESR)and another claims "Company B's Bat" is awesome(No different than BESR.) "Company C's Bat" owner claims his bat is amazing, best bat he ever had. Let me sum up why performance can not be better from one BBCOR to the next in Two words-"LAW SUIT" if just one of the BBCOR bats are not identical to the others BBCOR's and a player gets hurt, the Bat Company will be sued for Million$$$. They are all the same and not close to the BESR bats, so stop kidding yourselves -Shop for a bat that feels good in your hands, balanced the way you prefer but forget about looking for pop, it's not out there.

Pros: The bat is great, i have really been on a hitting streak and each time i go out to hit in the cage, the bat seems to prove it's self more and more. Love the bat, never gonna go back to demarini.

Pros: very evenly balanced. my first bbcor and i need to get used to it. Much different feel compared to the white marucci. I like how the black one feels more though because of the extended sweet spot and half and half feel. Zero sting, decent pop, but definitely not the pop compared to the old bats (as to be expected). Great look, great, comfortable grip, and i would say good pop for a bbcor. Go check out the easton s1, combat b3. I would say that those this bat and the two others i just said are the most evenly weighted, and have the most pop of any of the bbcors

Cons: Even though the sweet spot is bigger, you still have to square it up in the exact spot to get the sound, feel, and output that you would like. If you hit it in the other spots it will still feel as if you hit it on the sweet spot, but it just wont feel as good as the other spot.

Pros: Good balance, great feel, son loved it.

Cons: Broke on second day of high school tryouts. Bat less than 2 months old. Used a few times indoors for hitting lessons, and taken great care of at home. Hard to find Marucci customer service number, then put on hold for a long time, then told someone would get back to me in a few days regarding warranty. Better service from Easton when we had an issue with previous bat after almost a year of hard use. Would hesitate to buy Marucci again.

Pros: Extremely balanced bat. No end loaded feel. Lets you get through the zone quicker. Nice look and feel. A lot of pop compared to other BBCOR. Two piece design with vibration dampener in the knob absorbs sting from off center hits. Stiff flex design punches the ball.

Pros: This bat is A VERY TOP QUALITY BAT, It has its ups and downs but is a solid bat. I have been comparing the Rip-It Prototype 2 and I would prefer the Marucci Black in BBCOR. I do have the Rip-it in BBCOR and it sounds dead but the ball will fly. With the marucci it feels like i lighter bat but it isnt. very stable and balanced bat biggest sweet spot i have seen on a marucci compared to the Voodoo,Rip-it,OxO grid, easton and out of these five bats i would chosse the the Marucci Black. And the tip of the marucci has yet to come off like some bats. I am stocked to see the 2013 edition of these bats.

Cons: Black paint doesn't look good after a while. The paint will come off if you do not MAINTAIN IT which means cleaning it after use. Cap may or may not fall off. Way to prevent this is not throwing any BBCOR bat that will prevent the cap issue. Sence this costs a Pretty penny do treat it like it is one of your own.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Marucci Black BBCOR Baseball Bat: MCB11? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

What is better Cat 5 or the Black? I have a Cat 5. 23colin
The Black is a two-piece hybrid bat with a composite handle and alloy barrel. The Cat5 is a one-piece all alloy bat. I really liked the performance of the new Marucci Black and it felt great to swing. It has a little more flex than the Cat5.
Derek
Does this bat have good balance? Gman
The MCB11 is a very well balanced bat and will not be end loaded. Marucci manufactures high quality bats that will feel very balanced.
Kris
I'm shopping for my first BBCOR bat. I used the Voodoo VDB11 last year. I've narrowed it down to the Marucci's. Based on the bat I used last year (not a bbcor) which Marucci would you recommend? CAT5 or Black? Also before pulling the trigger I need to make sure the rumors of banning this bat are not true! If they do after buying it do you think Marucci would refund? Does their warranty reflect that? Thanks! tdubbsATL
It depends if you want to stick to a two piece bat like the Voodoo. The new Marucci Black is a two piece, the Marucci Cat 5 is a one piece all alloy bat. Both are very good. These have been approved for 2012. To our knowledge they will not be banned.
K.B.
This bat claims to have an extra stiff handle, is it as stiffer than the 2012 Demarini BBCOR Voodoo handle? Is the bat better balanced than the Voodoo? kevin
The Marucci MCB11 is going to have a stiffer handle than the Voodoo, both are going to have a very balanced feel.
Sean
Does the MCB11 have a good hitting zone as the other Marucci products? bombdropper23456789
The MCB11 has a huge sweet spot, balanced feel and great pop. Marucci manufactures great bats and are very durable.
Linda
Which one is a better bat the Marucci Black or the Combat B3? I'm a contact hitter, 5'7 150 lbs. I usually hit singles and doubles to the wall. I'm really concerned with bat balance and handle flex. I'm really conflicted. Scott
The MCB11 has tons of pop and has been getting great reviews. I would suggest getting the Black for you as this bat is very well balanced and has a stiff flex.
Kris
Is the youth bat of this bat a full composite? I want to get one for my son. 95Daddy
The MYB11 is not a full composite. It has the composite handle and the alloy barrel.
Linda
In your opinion is the MCB11 better than the DXCFC and the Nike BT0652? jkitch12
I like the feel of the MCB11. The MCB11 has a very balanced feel and has great pop. The DXCFC and BT0652 have been very popular bats as well. Picking between the three will be based on what you like as the player.
TJ
I was wondering if I should get the NIke M1, the 5150, or the Marucci Black! Which one would you suggest and why? BCB#15
If you are a power hitter, I would recommend the 5150 then the M1 in that order. Both the 5150 and M1 are stiff one-piece bats better suited for stronger hitters. Based on customer feedback and personal experience, I would give the 5150 an edge in performance. If you are a contact or gap hitter I would go with the Black. It is a two-piece bat and will have a little more flex than the other two. The Black is brand new but it should prove to be one of the top performing BBCOR bats on the market before too long.
TJ
My son has been hitting a friends 2012 CF 5. We are considering the CF 5 or the Marucci Black. He is a contact hitter with moderate power and hits to all areas of the field. Which bat would you recommend and why? TK
These bats will be very good options for BBCOR. Both of these bats will have pretty good pop and will be very durable. You can't go wrong with either bat. For me I like the MCB11 due to a more balanced feel.
Kris
Does the knob come off on this one or did they fix it? Dborg
That issue was addressed by Marucci a while ago. There have not been any recent issues with the knobs breaking on the Black or Cat 5.
TJ
Overall what bat is better, the Easton Power Brigade S2 or the Marucci Black? Which one has more "pop?" Which bat has a lower M.O.I? Joe
Choosing between the MCB11 and the BB11S2 is more based on what you as the player like. Both of these bats have a two-piece design which helps reduce vibration and a low M.O.I.
Kris
What are the main differences between the Marucci Black and the new 5150 VELO? Are they similiar in performance? Pat
Biggest difference is the Black is a two-piece hybrid with a composite handle, alloy barrel. The Velo is a one-piece all alloy. Both will perform extremely well. Picking one will just depend on what your preference is between one-piece and the two-piece designs.
Linda
What's better? The Marucci Black or the Rip it Prototype? baseballbeast
The Black is a two piece hybrid with composite handle/alloy barrel. The Prototype is a one piece all alloy. They each offer something different. According to reviews, the MCB11 will be a more balanced bat, giving the player a faster swing speed.
Linda
Is this more durable than the MCB2? b7
The Marucci MCB11 is manufactured with the same materials as the MCB2. These bats are very durable and have great pop.
Sean
What would you prefer, the Rip It Prototype PROB2 or the Marucci MCB11 Black? Aka monster
Both are great models, the Marucci Black is going to be a stiffer bat in comparison to the Rip It Prototype but as far as performance goes they are pretty even. The reviews on both of these bats has been great.
Sean
Does the MCB11 have more pop than the BBCA? bd
Both are going to offer a different feel when hit. The 5150 is a one piece alloy which will have the immediate pop, and is nicely balanced. The MCB11 is a two piece alloy barrel, composite handle that is also nicely balanced. Both have great pop and a large sweet spot. According to reviews, you can't go wrong with either choice.
Linda
Will this bat be USSSA and BBCOR approved at the same bat model? Curiosity killed the cat
Any BBCOR certified bat is also USSSA certified. Please check with your league official on bat rules before purchasing a bat.
Linda
Will a two-piece or one-piece bat perform better? rtr13
This will depend on the player. A one-piece bat is designed for power hitters and a two-piece is for contact hitters. Each player will have their own preference.
Kris
I currently have the Cat 5 but am thinking about buying the Black. Is it worth it? SP13
The Marucci Black is going to be worth the money if you are a contact hitter. If you are a power hitter I would stick with the Cat 5.
K.B.
I am more of a power hitter. Would you suggest the Black or would you consider something different. If so, which bat? SP13
One piece bats are normally for power hitters. I would suggest the Cat 5 as this bat has similar pop to the MCB11.
K.B.
What caliber of player would this bat be recommended for, power hitters or more line drive single base hit kinda guys? 4135636
This will be up to the player. This can be used by either hitter. Contact hitters tend to like more of a two-piece bat due to the flex feel.
Kris
How does the balance compare between Marucci and Rip It? pbrown
The Rip It is a one-piece that is slightly more end loaded than the Marucci MCB11. The Marucci has a low M.O.I making it swing lighter and give the player better control.
Linda
I'm real conflicted on ether getting the Baden Axe Elite, the Cat 5 or the Black. I am a power hitter with great speed and can leg out a triple if the balls hit in the gap. I'm looking for a bat with great pop but can still give me enough control to put it in between the holes. Which one should I buy? byrdman #23
Marucci bats have become very popular and they are getting great reviews. The MSB11 and MCB2 have very good pop and large sweet spots. The MSB11 and MCB2 are very balanced bats which gives you more control and adds more bat speed to your game.
Kris
What is it made of? leo
The MCB11 is a two-piece hybrid that has a AZ3000 alloy barrel, composite handle.
Linda
What bat would you say be the closest to the SV12 of Easton? Would it be their new speed, this Marucci or something else? dagost
The Easton XL2 is a very similar bat to the SV12. The XL2 has an alloy barrel, composite handle making it comparable.
Linda
Do you think this bat will have a price drop anytime soon? 5751
Our marketing department is constantly running deals on bats over the internet. It isn't anything where they give us a list on when something will be on sale. You would just have to keep checking back to the site to see what pricing is on the bat. Currently this bat is price mapped with Marucci and we are unable to sell these any cheaper than the listed price.
Derek
Does the paint chip off? 15dm
There is always the possibility of it happening. I suggest not using the warranty they offer for paint chips. The paint chipping, though annoying, does not affect the performance of the bat. I would save the warranty for dents or cracks if they happen, as it is a one time replacement.
Linda
I need help deciding between the Marucci Black (MCB11) and the DeMarini Voodoo (DXVDC). Which bat is more balanced, has a lower M.O.I, and has better pop. Erik
Both are two-piece bats with an alloy barrel and composite handle. The Black will be just a little stiffer than the Voodoo though. Based on customer feedback and personal experience, both are well balanced bats, but I would give a slight edge to the Black. M.O.I is difficult to judge as this is not a stat obtained by most manufacturers. Also based on personal experience, I would give the Black a slight edge in performance/pop as well.
TJ
I am a line drive hitter with good power to the gaps, would you recommend the Marucci Black or the DeMarini Voodoo? Jfid
Yes, this would be a great option! It would be a personal preference between the Marucci Black and Voodoo. The MCB11 Black has a more balanced feel and a slightly longer barrel, making it a very popular BBCOR bat.
Peter
What is the difference between the Cat 5 and Black? Sambor23
The Cat 5 is going to be a one-piece aluminum bat and the Black is a two-piece bat with a composite handle and alloy barrel. The Black is going to have a little more pop and a little more durability based off of the newer technology that was used in the Marucci Black.
Todd
Is the MCB11 more for a power hitter type of player or a line drive hitter? bigboy
The Marucci Black is a two-piece bat which are usually better suited for line drive hitters. However, there are many power hitters that like the extended barrel and feel of the MCB11 as well. Either type of player can use the MCB11.
K.B.
How is the durability of the bat? I've heard that the Cat 5 lost it's pop and had to be replaced a few times during the college season last year. Cmutch
We have not heard of any issues with the durability on the Marucci Black BBCOR. From my understanding the Marucci Cat 5 had great pop and a large sweet spot. These two bats have been very popular BBCOR bats this year.
D.H.
My son's high school coach has recommended the Cat 5, but I don't know if he is familiar with the new Black. My son is 15 and is small at 5'3" and 95 pounds. Which of these bats would you recommend if price is no object? dan
The Black MCB11 is going to be very similar to the Cat 5. Marucci upgraded the handle to make it stiffer. I personally like the feel of the Black more because of the stiff feel.
Sean
I have been trying to decide between a couple of BBCOR bats that are out. I have been looking at the CF 5, Z-1000, and the Black Marucci bat. Which would be the best for a contact hitter? dodger
All three are going to be great bats, I personally like the Marucci Black because of the balanced feel and extended barrel. For a contact hitter, the MCB11 is a two-piece bat with a little more flex which may be a better fit than the other two.
Sean
I'm confused by previous answers - some say the Black has more flex than Cat 5 but some say the Black handle stiffer. Which is it? JC
It will be a little of both, the Black is a two-piece bat which will cause the flex, but with the stiff handle the flex will be very minimal. Either bat will be a good option. They both have the same alloy barrels and will be durable options.
Kris
Can I find the MCB11 in 33.5"? Do they do half sizes? Is this bat good for power hitters? BigHitter23
Marucci is not making the MCB11 in half sizes. Two-piece bats are normally best suited for contact hitters, but that's not to say a power hitter can not use this bat. The MCB11 has a slightly longer barrel and balanced feel perfect for both types of hitters.
Kara
I just tried this bat at a demo and loved it. Marucci black or the Easton XL2? Oakley
Both are great models, the XL2 is a little more end loaded than the Marucci Black. If you like a more balanced bat, the MCB11 Black will be the better choice.
Sean
Are there temperature guidelines specifically for the Marucci Black? What would be the lowest temperature it should be used at? fredfred
The MCB11 Black has an alloy barrel and there is not any temperature restrictions on this bat. Bats with composite barrels are not to be used in temperatures less the 50 degrees.
Linda
Is it true that the Black has a smaller sweet spot than other bats or is this a fluke? oakley
We have not heard that the black has a smaller sweet sport. The MCB11 does have a longer barrel for maximum contact. This sounds more like a fluke and incorrect information.
Sean
Personally I'm a baseball player going into my 4th year of play.. and first year of highschool ball, I'm looking into purchasing a new bat with Christmas money I'm still working on becoming a better hitter and I don't consider myself a power hitter. Would recommend this bat or the Rip-it? Justin
The MCB11 has very good pop and is more of a balanced bat compared to the Rip-it. I suggest the Black for you as it will be easier to swing.
Kris
Is the Marucci Black more balanced than the Rip-It Prototype 2? dlittle11
The Prototype 2 does feel a little end loaded, the Marucci Black is going to feel more balanced. The PROB2 Rip-it is better suited for power hitters due to the end loaded feel.
John
Is the CF 5 barrel larger than the Marucci Black barrel? The Marucci looks like 2/3rds of the bat is the handle. Trevor
The taper is a little more dramatic on the MCB11, and the CF5 does not taper so much. This does give the appearance that the CF5's barrel is extended. The MCB11 is designed to have a slightly longer barrel for maximum contact.
Shelbe
Again I'm a baseball player entering my 4th year of play and first year of high school ball I'm a contact hitter with not a lot of power. Would you recommend this bat or the Easton S2 for an easy to swing to bat that still has a lot of power? Justin
The S2 is part of Easton's speed series which was created for batters looking for extra control, which may be something that could benefit you. The MCB11 Black has a slightly longer barrel along with a more stiff feel than the S2. A bat with a stiffer feel will give you a little more power. Either one of these bats will be great choices.
Shelbe
I'm a double off the wall/occasional triple guy, I have considerable power. Of the Marucci models(Cat 5 and Black), which is a better fit for my approach at the plate for driving the ball? bombdropper
Personally, I lean toward the Cat 5. The MSB2 is a 100% alloy one-piece bat which is most preferred by power hitters due to no flex. The MCB11 Black is a two-piece bat which does have a little flex and more preferred by contact hitters.
Linda
Which bat is better in your opinion, the Black or Nike M2? Which has more pop for contact hitters? junior
I give the Marucci Black a slight edge in terms of pop. Both would be good for contact hitters, but the Black has a slightly lower M.O.I which means you should see an increase in bat speed.
TJ
Can a BBCOR bat be used for USSSA in 2012? HomePlate_29
Yes, acording to the National USSSA Rules for 2012 all BBCOR bats will be legal for USSSA play. However, I always recommend checking with your league administrators as local leagues tend to have their own bat rules.
Michael
Assuming that the MCB11 will have no durability issues; would you recommend the MCB11 or Prototype II PROB2 for a power hitter? GoDawgs
Either on of these bats can be used by power hitters. The difference in these will be in the flex and the feel. The MCB11 is a more balanced and will have less vibration. The PROB2 does have a slight end loaded feel which some power hitters prefer. Choosing between the two will be your personal choice.
Linda
Which is better the MCB11 or the 2012 DXVDC Voodoo? champ21
They are going to be very similar in construction, it really will come down to players preference. Both of these bats have been very popular BBCOR bats and the reviews have been great.
John
Is there a big difference between the MCB11 Black and the MCB2 Cat 5? marucci man
Performance wise they are pretty similar. Choosing between the two will depend if the player is more comfortable with a two piece bat or a one piece bat.
John
How do you compare this bat to the Demarini CF5 or the Eastern Omen? Narb
The MCB11 has an alloy barrel and composite handle. The Omen and CF5 are 100% composite. Composite bats do require a break in period of 100-200 hits off a tee or doing soft toss The Omen, CF5 and the Black will be great BBCOR bats that have good pop and be very durable.
Kris
My 11 year old son used a Easton Rival last year and loved it, now he is talking about the Marucci Black and Cat 5. Which one is similar to that model in M.O.I and performance? Paul
The Cat 5 would be closest to the Rival. The Rival is a one-piece all alloy bat similar to the Cat 5. The balance on these two bats is very similar.
Linda
Does the bat become dead fast? Diggs
This is a very durable bat made of a high quality alloy. This bat will not dent easily and be a long lasting BBCOR bat.
Kris
My son will be a freshman in high school this upcoming season. He is a contact hitter usually hitting line drive singles & doubles. I am looking for a well balanced bat that will help out swing speed. I am trying to decide between the Black, 5150 Velo, and 2012 TPX Omaha. What would be your choice and why? Any other suggestions? JS
I prefer the Marucci Black because of the balanced feel and the pop off of the bat. The MCB11 has a slightly longer barrel than the other two, giving the player a little more pop. The MCB11 is a two-piece bat which helps reduce vibration and give the player more flex.
Sean
Is this also certified for USSSA? If not how can you use it in USSSA? Jay
It doesn't have the USSSA stamp, however it can be used in USSSA because it is BBCOR certified. BBCOR bats are allowed for USSSA leagues.
Kara
I'm trying to decide between the Marucci Black MCB11 BBCOR and the DeMarini CF5 or Voodoo Black. Which is best for my son, who is a freshman in high school? I'm told the sweet spot on the CF5 is bigger? MIchael
The Marucci Black has a longer barrel than the other two bats. The CF5 does have a good sweet spot and has good pop because it is all composite. For a two-piece bat the Marucci Black is an excellent choice.
K.B.
What the difference between the Black and the Cat 5? vinny
The Marucci Black is a two-piece bat with a composite handle and alloy barrel. The Cat 5 is a one-piece all alloy bat. The MCB11 has a slightly longer barrel and a little more flex than the MCB2 Cat 5.
Kara
Does the paint chip? Anthony
We have had some feedback the paint chips, but that would not affect the performance of the bat.
K.B.
This bat is for my son, who is a freshman in high school. We are trying to decide between the Marucci Black BBCOR, the Rip-It PROB2, the Marucci Cat 5, the DeMarini CF 5, or DeMarini Voodoo. Please advise which you think is best, and can you rank them from best to worst? michael
It really depends on the type of batter he is but of those listed, the Marucci Black is getting some pretty positive feedback. The MCB11 Black and the MCB2 Cat 5 have very similar pop and a balanced feel. The PROB2, DeMarini CF5 and Voodoo have a slight end load feel which is great for power hitters. Choosing one over the other will be more on what the player feels comfortable with.
Linda
I have the Voodoo but I'm think on buying the Marucci Black, should I buy it? Tank
The Marucci Black is an excellent bat. It has a slightly longer barrel for a bigger sweet spot.
KB
I'm really torn between the Marucci black and the Rawlings Velo? Which would be the preferred for a contact hitter? IAHITTER
I lean toward the Marucci Black for contact hitters. The Black MCB11 is a two-piece bat and has a little more flex which is often preferred by contact hitters.
Linda
Will the Marucci Black come in its Marruci black case from Justbats or would I have to order it from Marruci store? d
The bat will arrive in a JustBats.com box. If you would like the Marucci box please contact Marucci @ 888-768-8118.
KB
What would be the best bat for a contact hitter, the XL2, S2, or the Marucci Black? ZVW8
The S2 and the Black will be the best fit for a contact hitter. These bats have a two-piece design and are more balanced than the XL2.
Shelbe
Would you recommend this over the Anderson NanoTech BBCOR? I am more of a contact hitter but have some power, I want the better overall bat. YES
Both of these aluminum barreled bats would be a good choice, though the MCB11 will have a more balanced swing and a slightly longer barrel.
Shelbe
Can I use this bat in juniors? bb
If juniors is allowing you guys to use BBCOR rated bats, then this bat would be legal
Ryan
This is a BBCOR bat. Please check with your league or a coach to get the new bat rules.
Kris
Is this bat legal for PIAA High School baseball this year? matt
If Pennsylvania High School Baseball is using the BBCOR certification as there bat standard this year, than yes. Please check with you r coach or league official to details.
Shelbe
How does this bat compare to the Exogrid 2? BigGuy
Performance wise they are going to be top of the line alloy bats. The main difference is the Marucci Black is going to have a two-piece design, alloy barrel and composite handle. While the Exogrid 2 is going to be a one-piece all alloy.
John
There isn't a whole lot of feedback on the Rawlings Machine, so can you tell me how the Marucci Black and the Rawlings Machine compare? I know they are both two-piece bats and they are both balanced. Are the materials used in both bats comparable or does one outweigh the other? Pat
They are both very similar bats with great feedback thus far. The Rawlings BBMC bat will have a little more flex to it while the Marucci MCB11 will have a little bit of a longer barrel. It's really just a matter of what you are more comfortable with. These are two very good BBCOR bats.
Robb
My son is 5'10" 160 lbs leadoff hitter. He is mostly a pull contact hitter. Was looking at the Marucci Black and the Nike 2012 Aero MC2. Pro's? con? Which is the best of these two bats? snake
These are currently two of the most popular BBCOR bats and either one is a good option. The pop will be very good on both and this will be more of a personal preference on which on to pick.
Kris
Is this a two-piece bat? Baseball Guru
Yes this is a two-piece hybrid design with an AZ3000 alloy barrel, composite handle. A two-piece bat helps reduce vibration and give the player more flex.
John
I'm confused. Is there a Marucci Cat 5 and Marucci Cat 5-2? If so what is the difference, and is the Marucci Black worth spending the extra cash? Jon
The MCB2 Cat 5 is an all alloy bat and the MCB11 Black has an alloy barrel and composite handle. The Marucci Black has an alloy barrel with a composite handle and will have a slightly longer barrel than the Cat 5. It is much more labor intensive process to manufacture a composite bat, or a bat with composite in the handle like the Marucci Black. This is why it costs a little more.
Allen
What sound does this bat make? Is it like the Cat 5 or like a dull thud? josh cedillo
The Marucci Black BBCOR is going to make more of a ping sound since the barrel is constructed of alloy. The thud or crack sound happens with composite barrel bats.
Nick
I'm a Freshman in high school and have only used a Vexxum BBCOR bat which is my brothers. I'm looking to get a new bat before the season. My two choices are the Marucci Black and the Demarini Voodoo. Which do you think is better? Ryan
Both are high performing and constructed similar. The Marucci Black does have a longer barrel for a slightly bigger sweet spot.
KB
My son is 4'11" and 95 lbs. He is a contact hitter. Is the Marucci Black or the Cat 5 a better choice? Todd
The Marucci Black is going to a two-piece hybrid design, which are typically more preferred by contact hitters. While the Cat 5 is going to be a one-piece alloy, which is typically better suited for power hitters.
Jennifer
I am a freshman in high school and I was wondering which bat was better: the Marucci or the new Easton? Trey
The MCB11 has been really popular this season, but Easton has also come out with some great options for BBCOR hitters. For more BBCOR options visit the BBCOR search filter at Justbats.com.
Shelbe
I have the 33" 30oz. Marucci Black BBCOR and I heard the the 33" 30oz. Marucci Cat 5 squared BBCOR was banned from the NCAA will this bat be banned also? BP5434
As of right now there has been no discussions about other bats being banned or retested.
Jennifer
What is BBCOR? Explain please. The Game
BBCOR stands for "Batted Ball Coefficient of Restitution". This primarily focuses on the trampoline effect that composite bats create. This certification is required for all bats being used in high school and collegiate play. This certification was created to take the trampoline effect out of the bats and get them to hit more like wood bats in order to level the playing field among all adult -3 bats.
Jennifer
I have the Marucci Cat 5 and it was banned from the NCAA. I was wondering what the difference is between the Marucci Cat 5 and the Marucci Black? jf1437
First, only the 33 inch Cat 5 was banned by the NCAA. The Marucci Black has an alloy barrel with a composite handle and will have a slightly longer barrel than the Cat 5.
Tyler
Why is a two-piece bat more for contact hitters? Are you saying you can't hit for power with this bat? just wondering
You can certainly hit for power with a two-piece bats. Most contact hitters need a little more flex than a one-piece bat making them ideal for a contact hitter.
KB
I have the banned 33" BBCOR Marucci bat. What are they replacing it with in March? Is the bat of similar quality/ price? Derek
Thanks for the question Derek! As of right now the only bat that has been discontinued by Marucci is the Marucci CAT 5 BBCOR: MCB2 Adult in the 33 inch size only. The other sizes available are still usable under the BBCOR certification. The replacement bat will come out around the first of May. The TEAM bat is very similar to the MCB2 Cat 5.
Kole
Is the Marucci Black better for power hitters or should I wait for the Cat 5 remake? halls
I think the Marucci Black would be an excellent option for a power hitter. It's a two-piece bat, but will have a stiffer than average flex.
Tyler
Is this bat approved for use in College? The white one I was told is not allowed. mark
This bat is still legal and approved for use in college and high school. It was only the Marucci CAT 5 33" BBCOR bat that has recently been decertified.
Jennifer
I bought a Marucci Cat 5 33" for my sons birthday only to be told yesterday at a baseball meeting the bat had been banned. Will Marucci replace these bats for free? BB15
Yes, Marucci will replace your bat. Please visit http://maruccisports.com/returns/ for more information.
Jennifer
I hear the 31" and 32" in Cat 5 have not been checked yet and may also be banned. Is this true? worried
The Marucci Black is still legal in all sizes. Only the 33" CAT 5 adult bat was de-certified and is now illegal for high school or collegiate use. Based on the information we have been provided the other sizes have been tested, still meet BBCOR standards and are still legal for high school and collegiate use.
Jennifer
Does the Marucci Black have a longer barrel than the Cat 5? Ingle
Yes. The Marucci Black features a barrel that will be slightly longer than the Cat 5 and a bigger sweet spot.
Tyler
Why the higher price for Black compared to 5150 & Nike M1 when what I've read the others would be better for power hitters than the black? Erik
The Black has a composite handle while the 5150 and M1 are all alloy. It is much more labor intensive process to manufacture a composite bat, or a bat with composite in the handle like the Marucci Black. This is why it costs a little more.
Tyler
What is the minimum temperature that the bat can be used at? Hunter
It is really not recommended to use this, or any bat, in temperatures that are 55 degrees or lower. Since this is an alloy bat, it can withstand cooler temperatures a little better than composite bats, but it is still recommended to really limit the use as much as you can.
Jennifer
Is this bat legal for North Carolina high school play? jeff
The MCB11 is BBCOR certified. This means it is legal for high school and collegiate level play. If you are unsure about the rules your school follows, I would suggest checking with your coach or athletic director to make sure.
Jennifer
Does this bat require break in? Mac
The MCB11 has an alloy barrel, so it won't require as much of a break in as a full composite bat. However, it does have a composite handle and I still recommend about 50-100 hits off a tee, rotating the bat a quarter of an inch in your hands between each hit.
Tyler
Which is more balanced? MCB11 v. Rawlings Velo, and which do you prefer? JB
Between the two, the Velo will have a more balanced swing weight. It depends on the hitter. A player with average or below average swing speed, I would recommend the Velo. For a player who already has good swing speed, I would recommend the Black
Tyler
Will these bat stay legal unlike the 33" Cat5? A-Ra
As of 4-9-12, the Marucci Black BBCOR is 100% legal. If this bat becomes illegal we will put a plan in place.
Jennifer
I am 5'2 and 95 pounds and I was wondering what bat size I should get? It must be BBCOR. Playmaker
Based on your size, I would recommend a 30" 27 oz. BBCOR bat. Check out our Bat Coach tool. http://www.justbats.com/bat-coach/
Tyler
Is this bat for a power hitter or a contact hitter? Batter
The Marucci Black BBCOR is a balanced, two-piece hybrid bat and best suited for a contact hitter. Here is the link to view more details about the Marucci Black. http://www.justbats.com/product/marucci-black-bbcor--mcb11-adult/14728/
Derek
I am 5'8", 130 LBS, what bat size should I have? Tyler
A common length for a player of your size is a 32". Choosing a length is more up to the player and what feels best to you. Check out our Bat Coach tool. http://www.justbats.com/bat-coach/
Kris
How does this bat compare to the Easton S3, and the Rawlings 5150 Velo? Which bat would produce the fastest swing speed? D.B. Cooper
All three of those bats are well balanced and would produce fast swing speeds but the similarities end there. The Marucci Black BBCOR is a two-piece hybrid bat with a composite handle and alloy barrel. Both the Easton S3 and Rawlings 5150 Velo are one-piece alloy bats.
Tyler
Is this a one-piece or two-piece BBCOR bat? I want a bat similar to the CAT 5 but you don't have the size I need, so I need a bat that's very similar to it. Graham
The Marucci Black is a two-piece hybrid bat with a composite handle and alloy barrel. The Marucci CAT 5 is a one-piece alloy. Both are well balanced and provided a lot of pop. Here is the link to view more features on the Marucci Black BBCOR. http://www.justbats.com/product/marucci-black-bbcor--mcb11-adult/14728/
Derek
I'm 5 foot 2, 92 pounds and a contact hitter. I am playing 14U. What are some good BBCOR bats for me? theshortshortstop
Some of our best selling BBCOR bats for contact hitters are the Marucci Black, the Easton S1 or S2, the DeMarini Voodoo and the Nike Aero MC2. All of these are great bats and would be great options for you.
Jennifer
People say that the 33 inch bat has been banned from high school play, is this true? Connor
No, there is absolutely no truth to that statement. All sizes of the Marucci Black are 100% legal in High School.
Tyler
For a gap hitter would you guys recommend the MCB11 or the Louisville Slugger ExoGrid and also which bat has a lower M.O.I, the Marucci Black or the Easton S1? dodgerfan340
All are great bats. For a contact or gap hitter, I may lean towards the Marucci Black because of it's two piece design. The S1 will have a lower MOI than the Black.
Tyler
I was looking at the Marucci Black and the Nike Aero Fuse, I am more of a contact hitter but I'd like to start putting some more power behind that, in the $300 dollar range, what would you reccomend for me? Valicate
The Aero Fuse will have a slightly lower swing weight. If you are more of a contact hitter, I may recommend the Aero Fuse as a lower swing weight may lead to increase bat speed which may lead to more power.
Tyler
I am a power hitter, but I am also very consistent at the plate. So I've brought it down to a few bats. This bat, the Nike Aero MC2, Nike Aero MC1, or the Rip-It Prototype 2. Which bat would you recommend? Kgar
If you are more of a power hitter, then the Rip-It Prototype 2 would probably better suit your needs. The Prototype 2 is a one-piece bat that is pretty stiff and is generally more preferred by power hitters. The other bats you listed are great bats, but are two-piece and usually better suited for contact hitters.

Which bat is more balanced and will suit a line drive hitter more, The Marucci Black or The Easton S1 dodgerfan340
The Marucci Black and the Easton S1 are two of the most well balanced models on the market right now. Both models would be ideal for contact/ line drive hitters.

My son is 115 pounds going into high school and I want to know what size to get him? Jaime
The size is determined by both the height and weight of the player. Check out our bat coach for exact sizing: http://www.justbats.com/bat-coach/.

My son, now a HS freshmen, has been using Albin / Marucci bats exclusively for four years. For his first BBCOR bat, I dropped the big bucks on the black for Christmas, 31/28, which my son just finished using during the school spring season. Out of the box, the black seemed a bit more end loaded than previous Maruccis and by the end of the year, he was borrowing a friend's Cat 5 white. Is it possible that his black has a different balance based on when it was manufactured? Swinging the two side by side, the Cat 5 definitely feels more balanced and his black more end loaded. We were surprised. Reading all the responses to Qs, it seems like we might be in the minority. Help! I'm discouraged spending $300 on a bat that he won't use. bob
I too have heard some customers who say they have thought the Marucci Black felt a little end-loaded, but the majority say it feels pretty balanced. The conclusion I've come down to is, different people have different opinions of what an end-loaded bat feels like. Personally, I would still classify the Marucci Black as a balanced bat. However, the Cat 5 is a very, very balanced bat. If you were to hold the Black and Cat 5 next to each other, the Black will feel a little heavier than the Cat 5. The manufacturing process for Marucci bats is very mechanized and weight distribution on a bat will not change based time of production during the year.
Tyler

Which bat is better, the Marucci Black or The Team Marucci bat? jw
Both are great bats but are designed completely different. The Marucci Black is a two-piece bat with an alloy barrel and composite barrel, better suited for contact hitters. The Marucci Team bat is a one-piece alloy, better suited for a power hitter.
Kara
When will the price for this bat go down? ant
The price of the Marucci Black BBCOR is set by the manufacture and will not go down until they authorize a price reduction. The Marucci Black is a new model, so the price will most likely not go down for several months.
Kara

I am trying to decide between this and the DeMarini Voodoo. Which one is best suited for me. I'm 14, 5' 3" and 90 pounds? Pearc3
Both are two-piece bats with composite handles and alloy barrels. Given you height and weight we don't have a size in the Marucci Black that would suit you. You should be using approximately a 31" bat which we have in the DeMarini Voodoo BBCOR.
Damon

im tryin to decide between the marucci black bbcor or the demarini cf5 dxcfc for my 14 yr old son he is 6'1 185 any suggestions !!!! kbullock00
Both are great bats, but I would recommend going with whichever is most similar to the bat he's currently using. It's always recommend that a player stick with the same type or brand of bat they have used in the past with the most success. In doing so, the player is much, much more likely to continue to have success at the plate.
Tyler

I am a 13 year old 5'7" power hitter who prefers stiff bats. Is a 32" 29oz. Marucci Black the right bat? baseball playa
The Marucci Black is a fantastic bat but it is a two-piece bat so it will have flex when you hit the ball. If you like Marucci and want a very stiff bat then you should consider getting the new Marucci Team bat, because it is a one-piece and will be very stiff at contact. Here is a link to view the Marucci Team BBCOR. http://www.justbats.com/products/length%20to%20weight%20ratio~-%203/?s=team
