Description
The Solo 617 is Louisville Slugger's newest edition to the BBCOR lineup. If this bat doesn't get you excited, we don't know what will. Constructed with the brand new SL Hyper alloy, this one-piece construction delivers a stiff feel for maximum energy transfer on contact with a ball. Where this design differs from the Omaha 517 is at the end. Slugger has invented the Speed Ballistic Composite (SBC) end cap for the absolute lowest MOI and quickest swing speed in their BBCOR line. This end cap reduces excess weight towards the end of the barrel to produce the most balanced baseball bat Louisville Slugger has ever created. More control, more accuracy, and more power are all as a result of the exceptional balance the Solo 617 has to offer. To top it all off, Louisville Slugger has created a customized Lizard Skin premium performance grip that comes attached to the 31/32 inch tapered handle for extreme comfort and diminished vibration. Pros: This bat has a great ping sound and a lot of pop. I had a velo last year and decided to give this bat a try after it outperformed the new velo on a hittrax machine. It's a similar bat but outperforms and out shines the velo cosmetically on every front. I mean look at this gorgeous bat...it's sweeeet!
Cons: None so far.
Pros: This bat reminds me of the Rawlings VELO. Super balanced. Very loud. A ton of pop! I love the custom lizard skin grip too. It is super comfy.
Cons: I'm not usually a fan of white baseball bats because they tend to get dirty but I'll get over it. This bat is awesome! No cons.
Pros: Balanced Swing Weight, Solid Pop
Cons: I too have had a Rawlings VELO for the past few seasons but disagree with previous people that have left reviews. I hit the 617 and VELO at a demo and yes, the 617 is balanced, but when it came to 'pop' the VELO was clearly hotter. The ping of the VELO is much more distinct. I ended up purchasing the VELO.
Pros: Amazing bat. Great pop, great feel, very balanced. Best bat on the market.
Cons: no cons
Pros: This bat is the most balanced bat that I have found for a Drop 3. My Son uses a Drop 5 Omaha and his hands where fast and loved the way he got used to the feel of the bat as he transitioned from the Drop 10. Last Spring he had to use a drop 3 for his middle school and it was hard for him. I searched and the only bat that worked was the Easton S2 Half and Half. Till I saw the SOLO at a Sporting goods Store. I placed the Omaha -3 in the palm of my hand and the bat would fall off barral side. Placed the SOLO the same way and it just stayed put. You can see the difference in the 1st swing when Soft Tossing and He felt the balance with no End Load through his swing. Took him for some live Pitching and he was not Late and hitting to all fields. Some even hit the warning track. Great Bat for Smaller Kids that are not as Strong as others. Great Pop, Great Grip, Must Get Bat.
Cons: Bats are not ment to be White.
Pros: FEELS GOOD
Cons: MY SON HAD THIS BAT FOR FOUR DAYS, USED IN IN TWO PRACTICES AND KNOB BROKE HIS FIRST AT BAT IN HIS FIRST GAME
Pros: I gave this to my son for the 2017 16U college show case season to replace his OMAHA 516 and he loves it . His quick hands got even quicker. and he said he has never swung a more balanced bat . See you in LOUISVILLE.
Cons: none so far
Pros: Great bat if you're looking to have your bat for a week or less. Overall great pop and it feels really light for a 33 oz
Cons: I am now the fourth player in my high school program to have the knob break off of this bat. I kind of expected it to happen but not after a week of use.
Pros: Great through the zone. Very balanced and swings well. More of a contact bat than a power bat.
Cons: None
Pros: Great pop, feels good in the hands, very balanced, and just looks good overall
Cons: like most bats it stings your hands when it is hit off the end. But of you hit it in the sweat spot the ball flies
Pros: Great balanced bat, keeps you through the zone, and has a ton of pop.
Cons: No cons, one of the best bats ever made!!
Pros: Good bat with great pop. Got this bat from the return of my broken select 716. I really liked this bat and would defently buy it again if it was more durable
Cons: I got the bat on april 9th. On may 11th, the knob just randomly popped off when i swung in the middle of a game at bat. i was confused and angry about the fault especially since im not able to return it because of the one time one year warranty.
Pros: great feel, nice pop. Out of all the bbcor bats we've tried this one has the lightest swing weight. great bat.
Cons: none
Pros: Balanced bat, but the knob came off after three weeks. I do agree with another review, the Velo will last a lot longer. They both are extremely balanced bats. The Velo is much more durable.
Cons: Knob came off on two bats after two months of use.
Pros: balanced, has held up well. This is the 2nd bat of this model we bought. MOved up a size after using for 6 months. AFter tons of swings in batting cage(no machine) and use in games and practices there were no dents or defects noticed.
Cons: none
Pros: Once broken in it held strong w distance and pop compared to the other more expensive bats- my son loves it.
Cons: None so far- and gotten thousands of swings out of it... almost hate to retire it
Pros: My son really liked this bat and felt it had plenty of pop. We have purchased a number of bats and this one was his favorite, however, see the cons.
Cons: The bat has been replaced once already due to the knob breaking. It just happened again on the second one. The knob appears to be made of plastic that cracks inside the handle. It is not used for practice very much as he uses a wood bat for that. This issue is mentioned in several reviews and it is clearly a design flaw that Louisville Slugger needs to correct.
Pros: Durability
Cons: Very little pop

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.
After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.
The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.
The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.
Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
