Louisville Slugger Solo -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTLSLS6B0522

Go Solo at the plate this season and snag this drop 5 baseball bat off the bat rack!

Bat Benefits

The Solo is going to be one of the most light-feeling bats on the USSSA bat market. Slugger has built it with a well-tested design that incorporates a single piece of alloy material topped off with a composite end-cap.

The alloy material used by Louisville Slugger is going to be the SL Hyper Alloy that delivers thin barrel walls that help the baseball explode off the barrel of this bat. Meanwhile, the composite end-cap is crafted in the SPD Composite design. This end cap should remove weight from the barrel end of the bat and improve the lightweight feel plus the balance of the bat. Overall, the combo of the alloy bat and composite end-cap make this Solo swing extremely fast and it will be a bat that tons of hitters are grabbing off the bat rack this season!

This drop 5 will be an excellent choice for your player as they are approaching their final years in USSSA sanctioned baseball. The drop 5 length-to-weight ratio will really allow a 13-or-14-year-old player to get used to the heavier swinging BBCOR bats they will use once they graduate from USSSA baseball (Be sure to remember that within the 14U division of USSSA baseball, a batter must use either a drop 5 USSSA-rated bat or a drop 3 BBCOR-rated bat).

Pros: I would not use this bat only because the pros might not like the pop in it, or the Overall Rating because the pros are looking for like 5 star everything.

Cons: I would use this bat because it is a nice bat for them because they don't need a 5 star bat at this age just a bat that has nice pop, nice contact and I think it is a pretty nice bat for them.

Most underrated bat Kuko Parent

Pros: My 13U son hit over .500 this season and still hit many home runs, deep gap doubles, and lead the team in RBIs. Kids with end loaded bats were whiffing against higher level tournament pitching. This bat has plenty of pop and a balanced swing weight for optimum control. Not just for contact hitters! Why not hit for average and power?

Cons: NONE! Getting a rung up on mishits is not a con

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
