Great bat! Brittany Tiemeier Coach

Pros: I bought this for my 8 year old and I am very impressed. I actually like this bat better than the $200 bat she has. It has great pop and is light enough with the drop for her to swing fast and hard.

My daughter is in 12U playing year round...will this bat hold up for her needs? She is 5'3" 120 lbs.
Jacob
For her age and size, I would probably recommend trying to get her a heavier model that will be a bit more durable and hold up to the pitching speeds she will most likely face. This -13 model is mostly intended for younger, smaller players, so it may have a hard time holding up to a full season of year 'round play. I would suggest a -10 or -11 model if possible, such as the Louisville Slugger LXT -11 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTLFPLX19A11.
Kyle
Is this bat approved for Babe Ruth softball?
Jim
The Louisville Slugger Proven -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTLFPPRD1320 is a great bat to use for players 10 and under. This bat would be approved for Babe Ruth softball as it features USSSA, ASA, NSA, ISA, & ISF stamps.
Cameron
I have a daughter who will be turning 7 this fall and is entering her first year of Fastpitch (Coach's Pitch) Softball. She is used to swinging her brothers -10 Big Barrel bat so I feel like this would be a great option for her. She is petite and only weighs about 48 pounds. Any advice?
Andrew
For most 7 year old fastpitch players, we recommend a 28" length bat. I think that if you got this Louisville Slugger Proven -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat (WTLFPPRD1320) in the 28"/15 oz size, your player should be able to handle the size of the bat just fine (especially since she has already swung a -10 size of baseball bat).
Ben
My daughter is 4’3” and 81 lbs, playing 8u machine pitch (35mph). Recommended length and drop?
Michael
Drop is difficult to recommend because there are so many different factors at play such as strength, but for that age anything -11 to -13 should work. As for length, we would recommend roughly a 29".
Kyle
My daughter will be turning 14 and is 115lbs and 5'2". She is just starting and has played 2 seasons. Is she too big for this bat?
shawn
Yes, the Louisville Slugger Proven -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTLFPPRD1320 is probably too light for a 14 year old. I would recommend a -11 or -12 bat at the lightest.
Tori
8 year old daughter about 49 inches tall. Makes great contact but is burdened by stingers. She's got 4 seasons of experience. Will this bat provide more pop and help prevent stingers?
Jake
The Louisville Slugger Proven -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTLFPPRD1320 is a great option for a younger player as it is a very light bat. As for helping with stingers, this bat will not provide much help as it is a one-piece bat. Stingers are caused when a player hits the ball off the center of the barrel. The further away from the ideal contact zone and the more stinging or vibration a player will feel in their hands. Two-piece bats are best equipped to reduce the sting as these bats will flex on contact. The flex is what will help reduce and eliminate the vibration. Since one-piece bats will not flex on contact there is not much that can be done.
Cameron
Is this a 1-piece or 2-piece bat?
Kyle
This Louisville Slugger Proven -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat (WTLFPPRD1320) is a one-piece fastpitch softball bat.
Ben
Is this bat legal to use in high school in Texas?
Edward
The Louisville Slugger Proven -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTLFPPRD1320 will be legal for high school fastpitch because of the ASA certification.
Max
Is that bat good to use in 10U for a smaller player? Or is it really meant for coach pitch?
Tim
The Louisville Slugger Proven -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTLFPPRD1320 would be great for a smaller 10U player.
Patrick
My daughter is 6 and will be 7 in 5months. She is 4’ tall and 50lbs. Will this bat work for her or should I get something smaller?
Lonnie
The Louisville Slugger Proven -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTLFPPRD1320 is a very lightweight option and would work well for her.
Tori
My daughter is 9. Would this be a right size for her?
Angela
Yes, the Proven -13 is a very light option for smaller, younger players. Around age 11 though you will probably want to try and move up to a -11 or -10 drop bat to better withstand the faster pitching
Kyle
My daughter is playing 10u, and is 4'10" 88lbs. First time playing. Bat guide says 31". Thoughts?
Bill Pfeiffer
A 31" length sounds about right for her size, but a 30" could also work if you think that might be better. A -13 like this Louisville Slugger Proven is also about as light as you are going to get.
Kyle
My daughter is 7 and now plays select ball. She’s 4 ft and 55 lbs. and was using the 28/16 Axe bat. Would this bat help get the ball to the outfield? She makes contact almost at every at bat.
T Walt
With younger players, it is always best to error on the side of a lighter bat, like the Louisville Slugger Proven -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTLFPPRD1320, as this will help with them being able to better square up the softball more consistently. Whether or not this Louisville Slugger Proven -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTLFPPRD1320 helps her drive the ball further would be impossible for us to determine as that is more bat speed and swing mechanics but it certainly could not hurt.
Cameron
My daughter is 4’6”, weighs 73 pounds, and plays in 10u. She currently uses a Louisville Quest (2018) 28”/16 oz. Would like her to use a longer bat, but she still needs the lighter weight (has slower bat speed). Would this be a good bat to bump her up to?
Brian
Yes, the Louisville Slugger Proven -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTLFPPRD1320 would be a good bat to consider for a younger player seeking to improve their bat speed.
Cameron
Our daughter is 4'4", would you suggest the 28 inch or the 29 inch?
April
Without knowing the player's weight it would be hard to say what size the Louisville Slugger Proven -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTLFPPRD1320 would be best for her. If you know her weight, our bat coach feature can help on sizing (https://www.justbats.com/bat-coach/).
Cameron
Is this bat USA approved?
Kelly
Yes, the Louisville Slugger Proven -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTLFPPRD1320 is USA certified.
Lauren
Does this bat need broke in like other composite bats? Such as rolling it or hitting ball to a break it in?
Mark Kennelley
The Louisville Slugger Proven -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTLFPPRD1320 is a one-piece composite bat. It is typically recommended to prepare for a break-in period of about 200 swings, quarter-turning after each swing.
Lauren
I'm looking for a new bat, I’m 15 and 5’2". My bat before was also a -13 , 31/18. The size was perfect, I just want to try out a new bat with better pop. My options are limited because I don’t have a lot of money right now. Is this a good fit? Or do you have any other suggestions?
Makayla
The Louisville Slugger Proven -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTLFPPRD1320 is not a good bat to use at 15 years of age. This model is designed for players 11U or younger. For a 15 year old, we would recommend bats that are -11 or -10, like the Louisville Slugger LXT -11 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTLFPLX19A11 or Louisville Slugger RXT -10 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WBL2448010.
Cameron
Does this have "bat sting" on the hands?
Joseph
The Louisville Slugger Proven -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTLFPPRD1320 features a one-piece composite design so one will feel vibration or stinging of the hands on miss hits.
Cameron
My daughter just moved up to 12u travel, but is a little smaller in stature (4 1/2 ft tall; 85lbs.). Based on that she should be hitting a 30/17 but, with the faster speeds of pitching, I need a bat that will hold up and this one has a 5 star durability rating. Will this bat hold up for her?
Kevin
The Louisville Slugger Proven -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTLFPPRD1320 would be a great bat to consider for someone seeking a lighter option. As for how this bat would hold up, it is hard to say how that would be from one hitter to the next. As players get older, these lighter bats are less desirable as they will have a great tendency of breaking down quicker due to increase strength of the hitter and/or the increased velocity from the pitcher.

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
