Nice youth bat Chris coach

Pros: Bat is very balanced and the -13 helped my 6 yr old get the bat through the zone quicker. The 27/14 option was just what he needed to make good solid contact. Bat has good pop. Hes not a home run hitter yet, but he and a few of the other smaller guys are pulling the ball with plenty of juice to get through the infield. Great confidence builder and helps to NOT develop bad habits by using a bat that is too big/heavy.

Cons: I wish i would have bought it sooner...

Good Bat for the Little Guy Valleye coach

Pros: excellent bat for my 6 YO. He's not that big and has difficulty with heavier bats. The bat has some good pop to it but we will have to see how he handles it in the spring. The most important thing is he likes it and is confident with it.

Cons: None yet

Is this bat the same as the 2014 Assault, just a newer version? Kev
The 2015 Louisville Slugger Omaha 515 Youth Baseball Bat (YBO5153) is very similar to the Assault. The one main difference is the upgrade in alloy for the Omaha 515. The Omaha 515 features new performance alloy.

What bat is better the 2015 Omaha 515 or the Easton YB14S500C? vernie
The 2015 Louisville Slugger Omaha 515 Youth Baseball Bat (YBO5153) and the 2014 Easton S500C Youth Baseball Bat (YB14S500C) are both nice options but they are different by design so comparing them is difficult. The S500C is a hybrid two-piece design with an alloy barrel and composite handle. It will provide better sting and vibration protection and offer some flex that can lead to better bat speed. The Omaha 515 is a single-piece alloy that will be balanced so it will have a light swing weight and it will have a stiffer flex which can give you better control of the bat during the swing.
Patrick
I am on the fence about what size bat to get my 7 yr old. Would the benefits of the longer barrel of a 28/15 outweigh the loss in swing speed gained using the lighter 27/14 model? Andy
For a player of that age, our bat coach would recommend the 2015 Louisville Slugger Omaha 515 Youth Baseball Bat (YBO5153) in a 28"15 oz. model. With a player of that age, they would typically be able to replicate similar bat speed between the 28" or 27" model.
Joe
Does this bat have as much pop as a completely composite bat? jkeck
Yes, the 2015 Louisville Slugger Omaha 515 Youth Baseball Bat (YBO5153) will have the same pop as a composite bat. Youth bats are all measured to the same 1.15 BPF performance standard, so they will all have the same amount of pop. Tessa
Is the 2015 version of the Attack? Is this bat approved for Little League baseball? vic
The 2015 Louisville Slugger Omaha 515 Youth Baseball Bat (YBO5153) will be the 2015 version of the Assualt. The 2015 version of the Attack will be the 2015 Louisville Slugger Prime 915 Youth Baseball Bat (YBP9152). Both the 2015 Omaha 515 Youth and the 2015 Prime 915 Youth will be approved for Little League play as they will both have a 2 1/4" barrel diameter and be USSSA certified (1.15 BPF).

My son just turned 9 and I'm looking to get him a new bat to maximize his ability. What size may be best for him including barrel size? sid
The size of bat that would be best for him in terms of length would be based off his height and weight. The diameter of the barrel you would use is based off of what is allowed in your league. It is best to consult a coach or league official to clarify what barrel diameter they are allowed to use. The 2 1/4 inch barrel diameter like what is featured on the 2015 Louisville Slugger Omaha 515 Youth Baseball Bat (YBO5153) is common for that age but if he can use a bigger one, that would be an advantage.
Patrick
Is this bat approved for Babe Ruth 13-15? Asher
The 2015 Louisville Slugger Omaha 515 Youth Baseball Bat (YBO5153) is not approved for play in the 13-15 division of Babe Ruth. The model that is approved would be the 2015 Louisville Slugger Omaha 515 Senior League Baseball Bat (SLO5150).

The 2015 Louisville Slugger Omaha 515 Youth Baseball Bat (YBO5153) has a-13 drop weight. The -3 option is the BBCOR model, the 2015 Louisville Slugger Omaha 515 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBO5153).

Allison
What is the maximum pitch speed the YBO5153 can handle? Is it more durable than the big barrel version? Wayne
There is not a pitch speed rating associated with the 2015 Louisville Slugger Omaha 515 Youth Baseball Bat (YBO5153) because, in general, most pitches that would be expected to be hit by this model would be within the expected range. It would be more durable than the 2015 Louisville Slugger Omaha 515 Junior Big Barrel Baseball Bat (YBO515X).
Patrick
My son plays Little League. Is this bat approved for it? Elvin55

John
What is the difference between the Omaha 515 and the Catalyst? My 6 year old will be playing kid pitch next year (currently he is in T-ball). I have an older bat we are using to practice hitting baseballs, and he complains about the sting and vibration. I know part of the problem is the older bat we are using as well as the new experience of hitting "real" baseballs, but I want to know if one is superior in reducing sting. BigShow3000
The main difference between the 2015 Louisville Slugger Omaha 515 Youth Baseball Bat: YBO5153 and the 2015 Louisville Slugger Catalyst is gong the be the make up of the bats. The Omaha 515 is a one piece full alloy bat and the Catalyst is a one piece full composite design.

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
