Good Bat! Scott in McLean, VA coach

Pros: It's still early, he's only used it in 2 games, but overall he is hitting it well with this bat. We ordered the same size and weight as his other bat but he commented that it felt much lighter which gives me the impression there is not as much mass in the barrel, maybe more balanced weight distribution than end loaded, so less mass behind the ball at impact. He likes it, and hits well with it, but i wish now we had purchased a slightly larger bat. maybe one inch longer and ounce heavier.

Cons: Feels a little light. As mentioned, probably a more balanced bat as compared to a more end loaded bat. If we were to buy a replacement we would buy a slightly larger version.

Great bat Jim parent

Pros: My son is six years old and right around fifty lbs. He had trouble making contact with the ball using other bats because it seemed like he just couldn't get the bat around in time. He now is consistently hitting the ball solid. The -13 length to weight ratio has made a world of difference. His confidence is now much higher and he is having fun.

Cons: none

Does the trick RLB parent

Pros: We switched from the TPX Warrior to this LS Assault as an incentive for my son's performance in 6U allstars. He hit it so well that the coaches on the opposing team made us retrieve the bat for inspection. They were begrudgingly satisfied with the Dixie Youth approval on the bat, and it's now referred to as the "illegal bat"

Cons: None yet.

Have a question about the Louisville Slugger Assault Youth Baseball Bat: YBAS14-RR? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Is this bat comparable to a 2013 Easton XL3 with regards to pop and general feel of the bat? I haven't been able to find many reviews and am intersted in this bat for my 7 year old. He tried an XL3 at practice and loved the pop he got with it, but the barrel is larger than 2 1/4 inches, which exceeds the barrel size for the league we play in.

The 2014 Louisville Slugger Assault Youth: YBAS14-RR will have a one-piece, fully alloy, very balanced design. It would be great for a contact/gap hitter. The Easton XL3 was also a one-piece all alloy design but with an extended barrel. Both really do have great swing feels. I see more power guys liking the Easton XL-Series.

Do you make a 2 5/8?
tmon
The 2014 Louisville Slugger Assault: SLAS14-RR Senior League is the 2 5/8" model. It has a drop 10 length to weight ratio.

How does this bat compare to the Easton Reflex? My son is a contact hitter, but not a power hitter. I was considering the Omaha as a possible replacement too.
Doogie
The 2014 Louisville Slugger Assault Youth (YBAS14-RR) is very similar to the Easton Reflex. They are both one-piece alloy designs with a balanced swing weight and a -13 length to weight ratio.
Jason
Does this bat have an extended barrel? Please compare it to the Easton S500C. We are considering either this bat as a backup or upgrading to the Marucci Black 2.
D.T.
The 2014 Louisville Slugger Assault: (YBAS14-RR) will not have an extended barrel. It will be a one- piece alloy, and if your game resembles a power player, I would suggest this model. The 2014 Easton S500C: (YB14S500C) will be a two-piece hybrid design incorporating an alloy barrel and a composite handle. The two-piece structure will provide a little bit more flex, and this is typically preferred by contact hitters. This model will also be very similar to the Marucci Black 2: (MYBB20).

I can't read the label in the pictures provided. Does it have an "Approved for Pony League play" stamp on it?
mach21
Yes, the 2014 Louisville Slugger Assault Youth (YBAS14-RR) features the Approved for play in Pony League stamp on it.
Jason
My son is 4 feet tall and 47 lbs with a quick bat. I've always purchased a smaller / lighter bat because of his size. Would you recommend a 27" or 28" length? Any other recommendations other than the Louisville Slugger Assault?
dss
For a player of his size, our bat coach recommends the Louisville Slugger Assault Youth Baseball Bat (YBAS14-RR) in a 27" length. Another model that you could definitely consider would be the 2015 Louisville Slugger Omaha 515 Youth Baseball Bat (YBO5153).

Is this bat made of composite material? I need it to be lightweight and reduce the shock effect of the hit for my 6 year old.
Gina
The Louisville Slugger Assault Youth Baseball Bat (YBAS14-RR) is a one-piece bat that is made out of alloy. It features an extremely balanced swing weight, which makes it a lightweight bat. Typically the best way to eliminate shock though, is by swinging a two-piece bat.
Jason
How does this bat compare to the Louisville Slugger Warrior?
don
The Louisville Slugger Assault Youth Baseball Bat (YBAS14-RR) is similar to the Louisville Slugger Warrior Youth Baseball Bat (YBWR214-RR) in that they are both alloy designs. The alloy on the Assault is a bit higher grade for slightly better durability which would allow for a longer lifespan of high performance.

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
