The 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB17MK10) only does come in a -10. The XL is different in the fact that it is going to feature an End Loaded swing weight while the regular Mako features a Balanced swing weight.

This 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB17MK10) will feature USSSA 1.15 BPF certification which will make it legal for most every league in 2017. However, in 2018, there will be select leagues requiring USA Bat certification. This bat will not have that USA Bat certification and will be banned from use in select leagues (however, for USSSA play in 2018, this bat would still be legal for use).

The new bat rules (USA Stamp) that is coming out in 2018. Would this effect High School too? According to your website it only effect the following league, AABC, AAU, Babe Ruth / Cal Ripken, Dixie, Little League, and PONY but USSSA will not. I am not sure which league are High School belong too but I would imagine they belong to NFHS but I just want to make sure. And as I understand it, there will be no drop limit? My son will be in high school in 2018 and I just want to make sure I get the right bat for him now in that way he get use to it. Is this bat going to be usable beyond 2018 for High School players? High School certification is called BBCOR, and it will not be effected with the 2018 changes. A BBCOR certification is always a drop 3. The 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Youth Baseball Bat: YB17MK10 would not be BBCOR certified, therefor not usable in High School.

The new 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB17MK10) is going to feature an Extended Speed Barrel, which is 1.5 Inches Longer than the last Generation. Other than that they are going to be pretty comparable. Whether or not that warrants an upgrade is going to be purely subjective.

Is this bat legal for use in Little League 50/70 intermediate play for 2017? Chris
The 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Youth Baseball Bat: YB17MK10 is not allowed for use in Little League Intermediate (50/70) play as the barrel is composite. According to league rules, all composite barrel bats must be BBCOR certified (-3 length to weight ratio). If the bat features an alloy barrel then and 2 5/8" barrel drop would be allowed.

The end-loaded swing weight design is a perfect fit for a power type hitter, allowing the batter to gain barrel whip through the zone. If you feel that the bat he had last year (assuming it was lighter in weight) was too heavy for him then it would be best to consider another size.

The TCT material featured on this 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB17MK10) is extremely high performing when being used under the current USSSA 1.15 BPF certification that is being required for use currently by most governing bodies of baseball leagues. However, the CNT technology used on the past Easton Stealth bats was a higher performing material. The reason it was higher performing was because when that material was being produced by Easton and used by players, the performance allowed off bats by leagues was higher.

I would probably recommend the 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST Youth Baseball Bat (YB17MK11) for an 11 year old 100 pound boy. However, all players are different and some really prefer end loaded bats such as the 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB17MK10).

It really varies for all players and depends how strong they are so I really cannot answer that. It is an additional 3 ounces. I would recommend trying a teammates heavier bat before purchasing one of your own. If he can handle a 20 ounce bat I would highly recommend the 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Youth Baseball Bat (YB17MK10).

The 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Youth Baseball Bat: YB17MK10, if it were to be a 2 5/8" barrel diameter, would not be legal for use in Cal Ripken and Babe Ruth (since the barrel is composite - Babe Ruth would require BBCOR certification if using composite - and too big as Cal Ripken only allows 2 1/4"). This bat would be legal for all levels of Pony minus Colt and Palomino.
