Description

DeMarini baseball bats are built for the players who want the ultimate in both feel and performance. The CF Zen is DeMarini's lightest swinging, most balanced composite stick. With a two-piece construction and the Paraflex barrel, there is a 22% increase in strength from all previous 100% composite bats. From the end cap all the way to the handle, DeMarini has distributed the weight with precision accuracy for complete control during every at-bat. Player driven innovation has helped DeMarini continually push the limits of bat technology and performance. The latest feature associated with DeMarini's most advanced lineup yet is their 3-Fusion System. This one-of-a-kind design includes the streamlined 3-Fusion handle along with the lightweight 3-Fusion end cap that optimizes weight for better overall control at the plate. With a sleek design, the 3-Fusion handle provides a serious reduction of vibration in the hands and a noticeable difference in flex on contact that helps transfer negative energy into the barrel for maximum power and ball flight. If you're looking for a baseball bat to help step up your game, the CF Zen is what you need. DeMarini: Can't Stop!

This DeMarini CF Zen USA Baseball Bat (WTDXUFX) features a popular drop 10 length to weight ratio, a 2 5/8-inch barrel diameter, and the new USA Baseball certification. Best USA Bat So Far Joe parent

Pros: I bought this for my son because the other USA bats we tried all were pretty dead with lots of vibration. This seems to have the biggest sweet spot of all the new bats we've tried with much less vibration so far. For a USA bat, it has a good amount of pop. It's well balanced and the weight seems true to claims. It's still early in the season, but this bat surpasses all others.

Cons: It's a USA rated bat.

Coach

Pros: Excellent bat! Other bats had players' hands stinging consistently, lacked pop, and felt dead. Not so with the CF Zen! Responsive, smooth, dampened vibration on off center hits, and the ball jumps off the bat! Sometimes you get what you pay for, and I would definitely buy this bat again.

the BEST usa bat available bruce d parent

Pros: researched and hit many of the usa bats.....this is the one if your looking for the best overall usa bat on the market. i think we can all agree that all of usa bats will underperform compared to the " old " bats. Decent amount of pop and the balance is great.

Cons: it's a shame so many people are being forced to buy new bats this year that underperform so drastically.

great bat so far Jeff Crawford coach

Pros: I purchased this for my 10 yo son. He has hit the Easton Ghost X, Ghost X hybrid, maple wood bats, MOAB and Rawlings. Until he swung the Zen his favorite was the Ghost X but now he loves the Zen. It just sounds different then the others. The sweet spot is bigger and it doesn't vibrate his hands as much as the others. I have several off my travel ball team use it and they all loved it compared to the Ghost X.

Cons: USA Bats!! Price is ridicoulous.

2018 DeMarini CF Zen -10 WTDXUFX = AWESOME Nathan S. coach

Pros: My son loves the balance of this bat. I bought it a little long for him with the hopes that he can use it for the next 2 years. The balance point on this bat is a full 2+ inches closer to the handle than the Easton Beast X, which i am hoping will result in a faster swing speed. It also appears to have the longest section of the full 2-5/8 barrel of any I've seen in person. We've only had it for 2 weeks in the cage, but I have every expectation this bat will be exceptional. It also sounds amazing. I could swear it's a wood bat, and I assume that comes from the barrel material. There's no tingy aluminum sound with this bat, which may be to his advantage because the opposing players won't realize how hard it's hit. Also has no sting. Miss-hits inside at the end of the barrel still have no sting. My son has also swung an Easton Beast (1 piece) and Easton GhostX, and his hands hurt after those cage sessions, especially with the GhostX.

Cons: this is more of a con to all of the USA Bats, but the ball speed off the bat is slower than last years (comparing to an Easton S2 big barrel, about 5 MPH slower ball speed off bat). however, we are far from having the recommended number of ball strikes for the break-in period, so I am hoping this will climb with more use.

Cracked after 2 and half weeks Jeremy parent

Pros: The bat seemed to have a little more pop than the other USA bats id seen. My son uses a Demarin CF Zen for Travel Ball so we thought we would try the USA version for Little League. And he is playing 12u...

Cons: The bat got a crack in it after 2 weeks. Then it just exploded after a couple more hits. We only hit baseballs off it; no heavies, no cold weather. I know its under warranty but I can only use the warranty once. I hope the replacement doesnt crack again.

TravelTeamCoach Coach R coach

Pros: Pretty good pop and balanced weight for a USA Bat. Large sweet spot and no vibration or hand sting.

Cons: Broke in first game my 11 year old used it in. After hitting about 15 balls in warm ups with this bat and 7 balls in the game it was cracked. Same Durability issues as in the last few years with zens...doesn't matter if they are usa bats or Usssa bats all zens crack easily. I wouldn't recommend this bat unless you want to deal with demarini customer service which is not very good either.

By Far Best USA Bat aleckb coach

Pros: Durability, pop, swing weight, and no vibration. At the beginning of the Cal Ripken season our team bought four high end USA bats and so far this bat has had probably 500 to 1000 hits a week on average now for five months now. So far the bat is still going strong and if anything gotten better. It's amazing how much this bat as been used and it still in this good a shape. By far the most popular of the high end USA bats we bought. Compared to the Easton and Louisville Sluggers we have this bat is by far the best one. I'll give a nod to the Ghost X USA bat we have as a close second but it hasn't had anywhere near the number of hits on it compared to this one. Great bat...can't go wrong.

Cons: It's a USA bat, unless you hit it square in the sweet spot the ball is not going anywhere but that's the same for all USA bats. They are unforgiving when it comes to contact. You have to hit them just right to get the ball to travel but that's the point of a USA bat.

DeMarini Alloy vs. Composite Wayne Cimorelli parent

Pros: Longest wide barrel bat I have seen. We are on our second DeMarini Voodo drop 10 ( composite handle-alloy barrel ) because the first one bent. My son liked the bat but as time wore on the bat just seemed to have gone dead. The DeMarinin Zen ( 100% composite ) was definitely the right bat for him. HE LOVES IT !

Pros: My 11 yr old son plays a lot of baseball and owned and for awhile liked his DeMarini Voodo which is composite handle and alloy barrel. As time went on he felt the bat was losing it's pop. I was suspect. (It's not easy to adjust to the new USA standard ) But I bought the 100% DeMarini composite bat and it turned out my 11yr old son was right. The new bat is terrific. Money well spent!

Pros: Instant pop for my 11 y/o. Was using a low end Easton because I didn’t want to spend heavy cash on a bat for a sport he wouldn’t enjoy. Well, we tried the current model and still too pricey for my taste so I ordered from justbats.com for last years at $100 cheaper. So far so good, and hopefully get at least 2 years worth!

Best USA bat on the market KN Coach

Pros: My son uses the 31 for Pony. It has SO much more pop than the other USA bats on the market that it isn’t even funny. He has tried bats by every single other manufacturer and this is by far the best. There isn’t even a close second. In fact, now all the kids on the team use it. They all have said it has the mot pop. Demarini really hit a home run with this one.

Cons: The paint has chipped in a couple spots. That’s the only thing I could even think of to negatively about it.

Pop - Crackle - Snap Terry Parent

Pros: Great pop.

Cons: That is if you like paying $400 for a bat that will last you 3 months. My son, and his buddy, have each gone through two Zens in a total of six months of usage. Outer shell crackles and then bat cracks. DeMarini seems happy to send you replacement bat, almost as if they are expecting you to get subpar durability out of it. Second one comes stamped “no replacement” so one can easily infer from that they don’t stand behind the product and expect the same lack of durability from the replacement. Having been through two in less than a year I can see why. Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me. No more DeMarinis.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the DeMarini CF Zen -10 USA Baseball Bat: WTDXUFX? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Besides price, how does this differ in performance compared to the 2018 Voodoo w/fusion? Rob
It is difficult to say if you will find a performance difference in the 2018 DeMarini CF Zen -10 USA Baseball Bat: WTDXUFX and the 2018 DeMarini Voodoo -10 USA Baseball Bat: WTDXUD2. At this time we are not seeing anything currently on the market showing significant performance capabilities.
Cameron
Do I need to break in the DeMarini CF Zen -10 USA bat? tk
Since the 2018 DeMarini CF Zen -10 USA Baseball Bat: WTDXUFX is a composite model it would be best to put the bat through a break-in period before game use. This will help the bat perform at its optimum level.
Cameron
Will this be available in a 29 inch? Adam
The 2018 DeMarini CF Zen -10 USA Baseball Bat: WTDXUFX will not be available in a 29 inch model.
Cameron
Will the Zen USA bat be available in weights other than -10? Chris
We do not have any indication from DeMarini that the 2018 DeMarini CF Zen -10 USA Baseball Bat: WTDXUFX will be offered in any other length to weight ratio.
Logan
How many ounces over the stated weight is this bat, and is the barrel longer than the Voodoo hybrid USA bat? Mac3150
The 2018 DeMarini CF Zen -10 USA Baseball Bat: WTDXUFX is only about half an ounce heavier than the listed weight, and does offer a longer barrel than the 2018 DeMarini Voodoo -10 USA Baseball Bat: WTDXUD2.
Logan
Is this bat okay for USSSA? Does it have that logo/stamp? Mom of 10yr old
The 2018 DeMarini CF Zen -10 USA Baseball Bat: WTDXUFX is typically used in leagues like AABC, Babe Ruth, Cal Ripken, Dixie Youth, Little League, & Pony. That being said, it is legal to use a USA certified bat in a USSSA sanctioned game. You just can't swing a USSSA certified bat in a USA sanctioned game.
Dan
How much does the CF Zen 30/20 weigh compared to a LS 618 Solo 30/20? RJ
Both of these bats will run quite similar to their listed weights. The 2018 DeMarini CF Zen -10 USA Baseball Bat: WTDXUFX is one of the most accurate bats in the USA line though, ranging roughly 0-0.5oz above the listed weight.
Tyler
I thought bats were not allowed to have a composite barrel and have a USA stamp for 2018? Also, what is the true drop weight difference between this and the LS 918 two piece 30/20? Rob
Removing composite barrels was false information that was passed around. The Prime 918 is a USSSA bat, so it's not really a true comparison between that and the 2018 DeMarini CF Zen -10 USA Baseball Bat: WTDXUFX. The 2018 DeMarini CF Zen -10 USA Baseball Bat: WTDXUFX is very close to a -10 length to weight ratio, and the Prime 918 USSSA model is closer to a -9 in actual weight.
Logan
My son is 8 years old, 82 lbs and 4'4" tall. He is use to swinging the Easton XL1 (-10) which is end-loaded. Would this be a good bat for him or would the Easton Ghost X -10 or -8 be better? Nick
Based on your player's height and weight, I would recommend looking at this 2018 DeMarini CF Zen -10 USA Baseball Bat (WTDXUFX) in a 29" length as long as the 19 oz weight can be handled. If you were interested in the Ghost X, you could also check out that bat in the 29"/19 oz size (-10) as it will have a very similar design. However, I would not recommend looking to a -8 size for your eight year old as I think it will be too heavy.
Ben
Will this bat be good for a young 10 year old? I have read that many of the new USA baseball bats are heavier than listed weight. AJ
The 2018 DeMarini CF Zen -10 USA Baseball Bat: WTDXUFX is actually one of the most true-to-listed weight bats on the market currently. They typically range between 0-0.5oz above the listed weight. Beyond that, this bat would certainly be a great fit for a 10 year old player.
Tyler
I forgot to mention the 2011 XL1 was a 29" -10, and I don't see where the 2018 CF Zen -10 comes in a 29", so do you think the 30" would be ok? Nick
Unfortunately the 2018 DeMarini CF Zen -10 USA Baseball Bat: WTDXUFX is only featured in sizes 30, 31 and 32 inches. Going with a 30 inch model of this bat could work well as it is balanced whereas the XL1 was end-loaded; it all comes down to what you can handle.
Cameron
What is the piece made of that is just below the barrel? Is it plastic? Will it hold up to a baseball hitting it? Aaron
That is the connection piece found on most two-piece composite bats. Generally they are made of a durable plastic/composite material, yes. It should hold up to the occasional ball hitting it, but if you consistently get jammed that far or expect to, then I would not recommend a two-piece bat as that material is not meant for repeated ball strikes.
Kyle J.
Looking to purchase the 2018 Zen. We purchased the DeMarini CF8 (-11), 30" for my son and he loved it (ball comes off the bat quickly). How does the new Zen compare to it? Bug
This 2018 DeMarini CF Zen -10 USA Baseball Bat (WTDXUFX) features the new USA Bat certification that is being required for use in Little League Baseball, Pony Baseball, Dixie Baseball, etc... In regard to performance, this bat will be lower than the CF8 you used in the past that would have had USSSA certification on it. However, if you are required to use the new USA certified bats, this would certainly be the bat to consider since your player swung a CF8 in the past.
Ben
What DeMarini bat is better for a power hitter, the CF Zen or the Voodoo? the web
Both bats should suit a power hitter about the same, as they are both two-piece designs with added flex during the swing.
Kyle J.
What DeMarini bat is better for a power hitter the CF Zen or the Voodoo the web
Both the 2018 DeMarini CF Zen -10 USA Baseball Bat: WTDXUFX and the 2018 DeMarini Voodoo -10 USA Baseball Bat: WTDXUD2 are both great options for a power hitter and it really just comes down to the players personal preference.
Carter
How much break in time for this bat? How many hits to break it in? Philip
We would recommend between 150-250 swings off a tee or soft toss to break in the 2018 DeMarini CF Zen -10 USA Baseball Bat: WTDXUFX. After each swing, rotate the barrel a 1/4 turn.
Cameron
When will JustBats post a video on exit speeds? nicole
We do not have the technology and equipment to do the proper exit speed testing that is used to determine if a bat is legal for USA or USSSA certification. We could make a video describing exit speeds, but that is not planned for the immediate future as far as I know.
Kyle J.
Can this bat be used in cooler weather, below 50 degrees? Patrick McCutcheon
I would not recommend using the 2018 DeMarini CF Zen -10 USA Baseball Bat: WTDXUFX in weather below 50 degrees as it can cause durability issues to arise with the bat. This is because the cold weather causes baseballs to become more dense, and thus the likelihood of structural damage to a bat (especially a composite bat) is increased substantially.
Tyler
How long will it take to arrive to my house? Jordan
All orders are shipped the same business day when ordered by 8:00 pm Central Time unless otherwise noted. All packages will be DELIVERED within five (5) business days when the free shipping option is chosen. We ship from Kansas City, Missouri right in the heart of the United States so that most orders will be delivered in less than five (5) days depending on your location. When a special shipping option is chosen like Next Day Air, 2nd Day Air or 3 Day Select, the order needs to be received by 8:00 pm Central Time to be shipped same day.
Dan
Just bought this for our son. Wondering if he can break it in at the batting cages if it has a bat sleeve on it? Or would this void the warranty? Baseball Mom
I wouldn't suggest hitting the rubber dimple balls to break in any bat, such as the 2018 DeMarini CF Zen -10 USA Baseball Bat: WTDXUFX, as they are damaging to bats even with a sleeve. I would recommend hitting regular baseballs off a tee or soft toss to properly break in a bat.
Logan
Is this approved for middle school 8th grade ball? Smitty
Typically, I see Middle School leagues being required to swing USA bats like the 2018 DeMarini CF Zen -10 USA Baseball Bat: WTDXUFX. I would double check with a coach or league official. Sometimes they require a certain drop weight and will also allow the use of BBCOR bats too.
Dan
Will they be offering this bat in a drop 5? chillee
To our knowledge, DeMarini does not have plans to make this 2018 DeMarini CF Zen -10 USA Baseball Bat (WTDXUFX) with a -5 sizing for their 2018 release.
Ben
I just bought this bat for my son. There is no USA sticker on the bat. The bat shows USSSA 1.15 BPF. HumBayBee
Yes, the 2018 DeMarini CF Zen -10 USA Baseball Bat: WTDXUFX is going to be a USSSA bat. If you wanted the USA version of this bat you would want the 2018 DeMarini CF Zen -10 USA Baseball Bat: WTDXUFX.
Carter
What is the difference between the DeMarini Voodoo and the CF Zen? david
The DeMarini CF Zen is a two-piece, full composite design while the DeMarini Voodoo is a two-piece, hybrid design with an alloy barrel and composite handle.
Kyle J.
Is this USA baseball bat? cason
The 2018 DeMarini CF Zen -10 USA Baseball Bat: WTDXUFX is a USA approved bat for AABC, Babe Ruth, Cal Ripken, Dixie Youth, Little League, and Pony baseball.
Logan
What is the difference between the CF Zen and the CF Insane? Owen21
The 2018 DeMarini CF Zen -10 USA Baseball Bat: WTDXUFX has a balanced swing weight. The DeMarini CF Insane is end loaded.
Tori
We live in Seattle, WA where the weather is still cool and wet for another 4-6 weeks. I was about to pull the trigger on a CF Zen -10 for my 12 year old who plays LL, rec and Select baseball. He has been hitting with a Mako or S1 for past several seasons and has a very mechanically correct swing, so I was leaning toward the Zen over the Voodoo until I saw the comment by another reader about using the Zen in weather below 50 degrees. We will likely be between 45-60 degrees through May, then it will be warmer. Still okay to use the Zen or no? Josh
There is no set temperature on when to not use a bat, but we generally recommend about 45 degrees as about as cold as you would want to use your bats in if you can avoid it. Colder temperatures cause the baseballs to become more dense, which is harder on bats. If you do have to play in colder temperatures than that, I would recommend using an older bat if you can.
Kyle J.
In regards to the USA bats, what is the difference between the CF Zen -10 and the Voodoo -10 besides the $100? Coach SA
The CF Zen is a two-piece, full composite design while the Voodoo is a two-piece, hybrid design with an alloy barrel and composite handle.
Kyle J.
Is this bat part of the Zen bats that are banned? jake
No, the 2018 DeMarini CF Zen -10 USA Baseball Bat: WTDXUFX is not banned. Only the USSSA models were banned.
Tori
Is this bat hot out of the wrapper? Does this bat have more pop than the Voodoo? kenny
The 2018 DeMarini CF Zen -10 USA Baseball Bat: WTDXUFX has a composite barrel and will not be game ready out of the wrapper. We recommend that you get 150-200 hits on the barrel, rotating it a quarter turn every 10-15 hits, in order to fully break-in the composite fibers of the barrel. As for pop comparison to the Voodoo, you will see a very similar performance threshold between the two as they are each held to the same new USA certification.

About the Brand

In 1992, DeMarini Sports had something to celebrate. The three-year-old company had climbed a rung on the proverbial ladder of success, moving its world headquarters from a dirt-floored barn to a slightly larger metal shack. "It was a big move for us," recalled Ray DeMarini from the batting cage of DeMarini Sport’s present-day Bat Industrial Complex. "The new shop was larger, more storm resistant, and -best of all- it had a heater."

In the early days, DeMarini Sports hardly made a blip on the radar screen of softball. With no retailers and virtually no advertising budget, DeMarini grew steadily by selling high-performance bats directly to customers. While established companies made "juiced" bats for the pros and ordinary bats for the public, DeMarini focused on making one line of high-performance bats for pros and amateurs alike. This approach, combined with a passion for the sport, led to the greatest innovation in softball history - the world’s first multi-wall bat: the DeMarini Doublewall.

Released in 1993, the DeMarini Doublewall was the world’s first multi-wall bat. Like a modern golf driver or oversized tennis racket, the Doublewall had a giant "sweetspot," which allowed average players to hit like pros. DeMarini’s sales exploded, and before long opposing bat manufacturers to notice. DeMarini - a homegrown company led by a softball fanatic - had shaken the establishment silly.

To understand the rise of the DeMarini Dynasty, you need to know Ray DeMarini. A cult hero among avid players, Ray DeMarini emerged on the professional softball scene at the age of 40, a veritable geriatric among younger players. With a scientific approach to training, a batting speed of 96 miles-per-hour and a bombastic attitude, DeMarini fast earned a reputation as a savage competitor.

In June of 1987, ESPN launched a nationwide search for a hardcore player to advise on a series of instructional softball videos. When approached by producer Erich Lytle, the biggest boys in softball repeatedly spoke of a five-foot-seven softball giant—Ray DeMarini. DeMarini had mastered reflex hitting, a technique that drops the ball squarely between the infield and outfield. Impressed with DeMarini's knowledge and scientific approach to training, Lytle not only hired Ray as an advisor—he hired him as the host. Together, they produced Ray DeMarini's Reflex Hitting System, ESPN's most successful home video to date.

Having garnered national recognition through ESPN, Ray turned his efforts toward designing a high-performance bat for the masses. To accomplish this, he needed an engineer. "Not just an engineer," he said, "but a boot-strapping rocket scientist who could build an empire with pocket change." Ray's call was answered by Mike Eggiman. Having grown up on a farm, Eggiman was adept at making the most of a situation. Case in point: the company's first piece of automated bat-making equipment had the heart of an abandoned washing machine.

With Eggiman as Chief Engineer, DeMarini Sports delivered a series of industry firsts: the first multi-wall bat (Doublewall Distance), the first high-performance bat for massive players (Fatboy) and the first high-performance youth bat (Black Coyote).

In 2000, DeMarini joined forces with Wilson Sporting Goods to develop the next generation of hitting technology. Ray believed it was a perfect fit, as both companies shared a vision of developing game-enhancing equipment for avid players. What’s more, the companies had complimentary products: Wilson was the leader in gloves, balls and protective gear, while DeMarini made the world’s finest bats. According to Chris Considine, Vice President/General Manager of Wilson Sporting Goods: "The thing that struck me most about DeMarini was their passion for sports and their true competitiveness.

Within a year, DeMarini unveiled the industry’s first concept bat, the $35,000 F1. Secured under lock and key at the DeMarini Bat Industrial Complex in Hillsboro, Oregon, the F1 served as a technological storehouse for future products, including DeMarini’s landmark Half & Half system.

In December 2001, 12 years after the genesis of DeMarini Sports, Ray DeMarini died of cancer in his Northwest Portland home. He was 55. The next summer, the Portland Metro Softball Association paid homage to the “King of Softball” with the dedication of Ray DeMarini Field. Formerly known as Delta #1, the field was DeMarini’s favorite place to test bats during the early days of business. Ray DeMarini—bat maker and player extraordinaire—was remembered for his high-performance softball bats and unwavering encouragement of everyday players. Today, a 40-foot sign announcing RAY DEMARINI FIELD graces the outfield, and an interpretive display chronicling Ray’s life greets players as they register for games.

More "Insane Dedication to Performance" is in store for tomorrow.
