Description

The Brett Brothers entered the bat business with the goal of ensuring that coaches at all levels of ballplayers have access to superior quality composite wood bats that are cost effective. Consistency and durability were the primary factors when establishing their bat designs. The Brett Brothers have been involved in the game their entire lives, through Bobby and John's Minor League careers to the Professional careers of Ken and George. The Brett Brothers know the game. Even today, it's an important part of their lives, with each brother being involved in their own way. George, who is still a part of the Kansas City Royals Organization and a hometown hero here in Kansas City, was a career .305 hitter with 3 Batting Titles, a 1985 World Series Ring and an induction to the Hall of Fame in 1999 to round out his 21 year career in Kansas City. Not only did he prove to be a consistent hitter he showed that he had the knowledge to succeed. The Brett Brothers understood that having reliable wood was an important component. This is why they implemented their 3-piece laminating system along with their patented BOA reinforcement handle. The all new Thunder model is uniquely designed with a bamboo core and a maple barrel. SAY-HEY

Pros: Great bat has lots of pop. Use it in senior league and a lot of my team use it in place of their bat. They say the power it gives almost makes other think it is a metal bat. Plan to purchase another for me the others can use my older one. I am not muscular but since using this bat I am hitting the ball as far as the big guys. Best bat I ever had. It is not the team bat.

Pros: Great bat for the price. It gives a bit more pop than a comparably priced BWP wood bat. I can hit hard liners to the outfield consistently. It's my favorite bat to use on our slow-pitch team.

Thunder Bamboo/Maple wood bat Perfect Combination Kevin R player

Pros: Great bat... I bought this bat because I wanted a bat for myself and that I could feel comfortable with. You know these bats just fit, sure they may sting a little but with a lil love and care and some wrap the sting just falls away...and not to mention everyone loves a new bat, since they want to be the first to splinter it! These things take a beating as well as deliver good solid hits all around even off the handle..whoops... Thanks and keep up the great work fellas!

Six bat review Keith Other

Pros: We purchased 6 (3 different sizes) of these bats for our co-ed adult slow pitch softball league, where everyone had to use one of the provided bats. Most players really enjoyed using them, and the sound of a wooden bat. The bat provided a good pop, and skilled players could easily put it over a 225 fence with ease. Was nice to be able to provide 3 different sized bats for the players.

Cons: 2 of the 6 bats broke by the end of the season, right at the top of the handle. Many of the inexperienced players complained about the stinging. When playing in bad weather, the bats where slippery and ended up flying everywhere. Next season we will be sure to put grips on the bats.

Pros: 1)I love this bat. The build and design of it is amazing, i like the simple design, i feel that some bats are all about flashiness over performance but this bat is a perfect mix of both! the swing weight is perfect. The sounds coming off the bat is really nice. 2)I had JustBats install the Lizard Skin grip and wow! they did fantastic, i found no issues and the grip just made the bat better!

Brett
Looking for a bat for a wooden bat tournament. With the fiberglass on the handle, does this qualify as a wood bat? Bull
Yes, the Thunders are considered wood bats. They are very popular bats. To be safe though, you might check with the organizer of the tournament to confirm the legality of this bat with its fiberglass handle.
Mark
Is there any differenc between the Brett Bros' black, blue and red bats? rick
No, the only difference is the color.
Kris
Is there any warranty on this bat like the BamBoo Bat, or does this manufacturer not give one? tommy
There isn't a manufacturer's warranty on the bat. But you can buy it with the JustBats Wood Bat Warranty. For a little extra cash, you can get a short warranty with the bat!
Kara
IS THIS LEGAL FOR HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL BECAUSE OF THE WEIGHT DIFFERENTIAL? STEVE
The Brett Bros. Thunder Bamboo/Maple Wood Softball Bat: SST500 Black Slow Pitch is not a baseball bat. Since this is a softball bat, it will not be legal for high school baseball play.
Jennifer
What is the barrel diameter for this bat? Ryan2015
The Brett Bros. Thunder Bamboo/Maple Wood Softball Bat has a 2 1/4 inch barrel.
Kara
What is your warranty for this bat? Lazaro47
Due to the nature of wood, most wood bats do not come with a warranty, including the Brett Bros. Thunder Bamboo/Maple Wood Softball Bat: SST500 Black Slow Pitch. However, you can buy it with the JustBats Wood Bat Warranty. If you pay a little extra for that Wood Bat Warranty, you'll get a short warranty period with the bat.
Kevin

The Brett Bros. Thunder Bamboo/ Maple (SST500) does not come with a manufacturer's warranty. But you can purchase it with the JustBats Wood Bat Warranty. For a little extra cash, you are able to get a short warranty period with the bat.
Zach
Does this bat get any hotter? Does it break-in and improve at all? Woody
Given the material that the Brett Bros. Thunder Bamboo/Maple Wood Slow Pitch Softball Bat (SST500) is made of, it would not benefit from a break-in process and will be as hot as you will see out of the wrapper.
Patrick
I am new to wood bats. I am 5 foot 7 and weigh 170 pounds. I am pretty muscular. What length and weight would I want? softballa
Based on height and weight, I would probably recommend the 33 inch size of the Brett Bros. Thunder Bamboo/Maple Wood Slow Pitch Softball Bat (SST500).
Patrick
Would this bat be any good for fastpitch softball (full windmill)? gugu
The Brett Bros. Thunder Bamboo/Maple Wood Slow Pitch Softball Bat (SST500) is more intended for slow pitch play and would probably be more likely to break facing higher pitching speeds.
Patrick
What weight does it come in? hoff
The Brett Bros. Thunder Bamboo/Maple Wood Slow Pitch Softball Bat: SST500 Black will still be featured in 26-28 ounce options at JustBats (the weight will be dependent on the length of bat you purchase).
Cameron
Can it be used for modified fast pitch? Bryan
The Brett Bros. Thunder Bamboo/Maple Wood Slow Pitch Softball Bat: SST500 Black is intended for slow pitch softball and is not technically recommended for use in modified fastpitch. You might ask your league directors to get an exact answer.
John P.
Does bat have BPF rating label? Bob
The Brett Bros. Thunder Bamboo/Maple Wood Slow Pitch Softball Bat: SST500 Black will feature the ASA stamp but there is no BPF stamp on the bat.
Cameron
I am not having any luck with this bat is it me or the bat? Steve
The Brett Bros. Thunder Bamboo/Maple Wood Slow Pitch Softball Bat: SST500 Black is a hybrid of bamboo and maple. Due to it being made of wood and wood-like materials, it will not perform like a composite or alloy bat. If you felt like you needed something heavier to generate more power, you might try out a heavier wood slow pitch bat to give you a little more weight behind your swing. But if you wanted something lighter to get better control, I might suggest testing out the Brett Bros. GB5 Superlight Wood ASA Softball Bat.
Tyler
This is my first year playing in the 55 and over. Is the Thunder bat a good bat to start with? Paul
The Brett Bros. Thunder Bamboo/Maple Wood Slow Pitch Softball Bat: SST500 Black would be a great option for 55 and over if you are being required to swing a wood style slow pitch bat.
Max
Does this bat contain a composite handle? I am in a softball league that has a rule that states "Composite Handles are not allowed". Interested in this one. Angel Mendez
The Brett Bros. Thunder Bamboo/Maple Wood Slow Pitch Softball Bat: SST500 Black does feature a fiberglass/composite reinforced handle. I would imagine it most likely will not be allowed in your league per the rules you mentioned.
Cameron
Is there a warranty on this bat like other BamBooBats offer? Kenny K.
The Brett Bros. Thunder Bamboo/Maple Wood ASA Slow Pitch Softball Bat: SST500 Black does not feature a warranty from the manufacturer. But you can purchase it and pay a little extra for our 30 Day Wood Bat Warranty.
Cameron
Do you guys have any wood softball bats, weight at 26 ounces? Richard
The Brett Bros. Thunder Bamboo/Maple Wood ASA Slow Pitch Softball Bat: SST500 Black will not always come in at exactly 26 ounces but would be the best option if seeking that specific weight.
Cameron
How would this do in 16 inch Chicago softball? Ed
Hard to say how the Brett Bros. Thunder Bamboo/Maple Wood ASA Slow Pitch Softball Bat: SST500 Black would do with the 16 inch softball. With regards to a wood construction, not sure if there is an ideal bat for the ball.

About the Brand

The Brett Brothers “entered the bat business with the goal of ensuring that coaches at all levels of baseball have access to superior quality composite wood bats that are cost effective." The Brett Brothers have been involved in baseball their entire lives. We are four brothers and all of us played professional ball at one time. Bobby and John played in the Minor Leagues, and Ken and George together put in 31 years in the Major Leagues.

Not only did we play baseball because we were good, we truly loved the game. Even today we closely follow the sport. George still works for the Kansas City Royals. Ken has been a broadcaster for 11 years with Fox. Bobby runs our professional franchises here in Spokane, the baseball Indians and the hockey Chiefs. The oldest brother John is a frequent visitor here to see his brothers and watch our teams play.

Like most baseball families, it all started in a small Southern California town call El Segundo. The boys are all about two years apart, and we had some kind of sporting event about every night. I remember most of our family meals were hot dogs, and everything was on the fly. Our parents were always there to cheer for us, and our lives were generally very happy.

Ken was the first to sign a pro contract at age 17. He was the fourth player taken in the annual draft by the Boston Red Sox. When their scout Joe Stephenson came to sign him, our dad said, "the one you really want is the skinny, barefooted one, George." George in 1966 was all of 12 years old.

If you move up the clock to 1971, George was a senior, and Joe Stephenson desperately wanted him to be Boston's #1 pick. The Red Sox said no, and the Kansas City Royals took George in round #2. The rest is history. Ken played 11 years for numerous teams. George turned out to be exactly the player our late father envisioned. He was a 3-time winner of the Batting Title in three different decades. He was very consistent, and always played the game very hard. He was the greatest Royal, and still makes his home in Kansas City. In the summer of 1999, he was awarded Baseball's highest award, election to the Hall Of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.

In the spring of 1998, the Tridiamond Bat Company needed a place to "try out" their new baseball bats. Because the Bretts owned the only local professional team, an association was formed. When Tridiamond got both NCAA and Major League approval to sell bats, they needed some baseball help. At this time we bought into the company and changed the name to Brett Bats.
