Description

Marucci baseball bats continue to be swung by players at all levels of the game, and for good reason. The F5 series is ready to take the nation by storm. When Marucci released the famous CAT series, they named it after hurricane categories due to the sheer strength of their AZ4X aluminum alloy. Now, Marucci has stuck with the weather references and named this model after another one of nature's most violent storms: an F5 tornado. They did so because of the F5 baseball bats ability to wreak havoc on a field. As a one-piece aluminum alloy construction, this model delivers a traditional, consistent feel with a balanced swing weight for better control through the zone. Inside of the barrel, Marucci utilizes a multi-variable wall design that creates a massive sweet spot with unprecedented durability. They have also applied their proven Ring-free barrel technology that maximizes performance at the plate while guaranteeing zero dead spots. On the other end, a custom micro-perforated soft touch grip decreases negative impact feedback and increases overall comfort. Marucci: Honor The Game!

This Marucci F5 BBCOR Baseball Bat (MCBF5) features a 2 5/8-inch barrel diameter, a drop 3 length to weight ratio, and the BBCOR certification for high school and collegiate approval. Experience the power of an F5 and buy one of these Marucci baseball bats today with free shipping and a full one (1) year manufacturer's warranty. Don't forget, we're here for you from click to hit!

Pros: Got my son the F5 BBCOR as he's transitioning and loves his 30" Cat7 -8. Have yet to be disappointed with Marucci. Excellent price for a 13 year old who may outgrow his 31" before the spring!

Cons: Compared to the Cat7 -8, the pop and sound are a little different. Could just be the BBCOR though.

Excellent Scott Shelby player

Pros: I was really looking for an entry level bbcor bat for my 14 yr old, Thinking that he wasn't quite ready for a 33/30 and needed a little time with a 31/28 before making the jump. He could not be more pleased with our selection, a lot of pop, great feel, certainly we could have spent a lot more but no way we would have been more pleased!

Cons: Absolutely none!!

Great Bat for the Price GoodSyntax Parent

Pros: Low Cost Great Pop (when barreled up) Well Balanced (slight end-load) Loud Ping There honestly isn't any other bats as good at this price point. Incredible power on the sweet spot. This is effectively a CAT 7 without the ring free knob. There are very few one piece bats featuring variable wall thickness - Marucci CAT 7, Rawlings Velo, Mizuno Generations and Axe Hyperwhip are the only other options that I'm aware of. This is important because it helps to reduce the weight of the barrel (to improve balance) and improves the trampoline effect just off the sweet spot. The result is a more balanced swing versus similar size/weight alloy bats. When you square one up with this bat, the loud ping let's everyone know it. It has a loud, long resonance that gives good, positive feedback to the batter. Another huge plus is Marucci customer service, they've always treated me like a valued customer and are very generous with their warranty policies.

Cons: Hand Ring Small Barrel Loud Ping As a single piece alloy without the special knob, there is nothing to prevent hand ring on mishits. Some like the honest feedback, but no one actually likes the sting shooting up your arm when you hit one off the end of the bat. Second, the barrel is pretty small compared to the current crop of boat oars that are out right now. Many bats (Beast/Ghost, Project 3, CF Zen, Quatro, every Combat ever made) all feature huge barrels, and the F5 isn't anywhere even close. The F5, like the Cat 7/8 feature smaller barrels, similar to the Slugger 5xx, 6xx and 7xx bats. During tee work, or soft toss, the loud ping does tend to get annoying. Not necessarily a deal-breaker, but if you're hitting into a net in the basement/garage, the sound will get tiresome after a while.

Good transition bat. Christopher Dias Parent

Pros: This bat is being used for the transition to bbcor from a drop 5. My son went from and endloaded drop 5 to this bat as it is a balanced feel and easier to swing with the heavier weight. It hits very well when barreled up and has a distinct ping. It has made the transition very simple thus far.

Cons: The only drawback is going from a two piece to a solid aluminum is that there is a little more feedback to the hands when hit off center. Also, for a younger kid making the switch, the handle is a little thicker and not as advantageous to small hands.

Have a question about the Marucci F5 BBCOR Baseball Bat: MCBF5? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Is it alloy or composite?
zpc
The 2018 Marucci F5 BBCOR Baseball Bat: MCBF5 features a one-piece alloy design.
Jason
How does it compare to the Cat 7 BBCOR?
rrod
The difference is that the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Connect BBCOR Baseball Bat (MCBCC7) utilizes AZ4X alloy which provides increased strength with a slightly higher response rate than the standard alloy of the 2018 Marucci F5 BBCOR Baseball Bat (MCBF5). They are both highly reviewed bats and have been performing extremely well for our users.
Tyler
Is the weight balanced or end loaded?
fraggle
The 2018 Marucci F5 BBCOR Baseball Bat: MCBF5 is balanced.
Logan
How does it compare to the Omaha 517?
rob
Both the 2018 Marucci F5 BBCOR Baseball Bat: MCBF5 and the 2017 Louisville Slugger Omaha 517 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5173 are one-piece alloy bats with balanced swing weights. They will compare favorably to one another in terms of feel, performance and durability.
Dan
Is the handle thickness the same as the Marucci one? Also, would the bat quality be good for a college freshman?
Stefan
The handle of the 2018 Marucci F5 BBCOR Baseball Bat: MCBF5 will be the same as Marucci One and would be a good bat for a college freshman.
Max
Would you recommend the Marucci F5 or Marucci Cat 7 for an advanced travel ball player in high school?
flyC
The CAT 7 BBCOR bat does receive a little more research and development in its design. Both this 2018 Marucci F5 BBCOR Baseball Bat (MCBF5) and the CAT 7 feature AZ4X alloy. However, the CAT 7 features an optimized barrel design that allows for a bigger sweet spot on the bat. As well, it also features an anti-vibration knob that the F5 does not feature.
Ben
Can a lizard skin help with the vibrations?
Darny
This 2018 Marucci F5 BBCOR Baseball Bat: MCBF5 is a one-piece alloy bat which is the most conductive for vibrations on contact. Thicker grip tape can help reduce the vibrations felt on the hands. However, if you are truly wanting to avoid negative feedback we would recommend looking at either a hybrid (alloy barrel/composite handle) or a fully composite bat.
Tyler
Which alloy does the F5 feature?
Al
The 2018 Marucci F5 BBCOR Baseball Bat: MCBF5 features AZ4X aluminum alloy.
Daveron
How is the sound?
go braves
The sound of the 2018 Marucci F5 BBCOR Baseball Bat: MCBF5 will be that akin to most alloy barrel bats on the market. They tend to produce your traditional "ping" when hit, where as a composite bat would make a far less acoustic noise on contact.
Tyler
Does this bat have a USA Baseball stamp?
jeff
No, the 2018 Marucci F5 BBCOR Baseball Bat (MCBF5) does not feature the USA Baseball stamp. The heaviest option for a USA Baseball bat is a -5 drop weight.
John
Is this a -3?
steven martinez
The 2018 Marucci F5 BBCOR Baseball Bat MCBF5 features a -3 drop weight.
John
What is your best comparable bat to the 2014 Marucci ONE?
i dont sleep at night because of this
The 2018 Marucci F5 BBCOR Baseball Bat: MCBF5 would be simliar as it is a one alloy. However, the Marucci Cat 7 will be the most similar.
Tori
What is the barrel size on this bat?
jaydon reed
The 2018 Marucci F5 BBCOR Baseball Bat: MCBF5 features a 2 5/8" barrel diameter.
Logan
Is there a 33", -5 bat?
Terry
Unfortunately, there will not be a 2018 Marucci F5 BBCOR Baseball Bat: MCBF5 in a -5 model.
Max L
Can you use this bat in a youth league, 9u?
nate
The 2018 Marucci F5 BBCOR Baseball Bat: MCBF5 is a -3 bat, which is the size used by high school and college players. I would not recommend this model for a player in a 9u league. For your player, I would check out the 2018 Marucci F5 -10 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBF5X10 which will have a -10 drop weight.
Tyler
Is it a -3?
Tyler
Yes, the 2018 Marucci F5 BBCOR Baseball Bat: MCBF5 is a -3.
Tori
Does it have a BESR stamp?
Rob
The BESR stamp is the old certification. The Marucci F5 BBCOR Baseball Bat: MCBF5 features the updated BBCOR .50 stamp. This bat is legal for play in high school and collegiate.
Daveron
Will you guys be restocking the 31/28 version of the bat?
Bill
Unfortunately the Marucci F5 BBCOR Baseball Bat: MCBF5 is a closeout model and thus we are not able to restock on sizes not listed. As of this posting, we will not be restocking the 31 inch model.
Cameron
What is the difference between the F5 and CAT 6 GEN2?
AL
The biggest difference is that the Marucci Cat 6 Gen 2 will use Marucci's patented Anti-Vibration Knob technology to significantly reduce vibration on mishits.
Kyle
Do you recommend the Marucci F5 BBCOR 32” for a player beginning on the BBCOR bat level?
Daniel
The Marucci F5 BBCOR Baseball Bat: MCBF5 is a great one piece alloy BBCOR option. It is a balanced bat for players making their first step into BBCOR play.
Daveron
What dose F5 mean?
D.P.
F5 is simply the name Marucci chose for this bat. We are not aware of anything else it might stand for or mean. You can try contacting Marucci for more information.
Kyle
Can this bat be used in JUCO?
Chili
The Marucci F5 BBCOR Baseball Bat: MCBF5 cannot be used in JUCO play in 2020.
Cameron
Is there a bat with the black color scheme?
Diego Magana
Unfortunately, the Marucci F5 BBCOR Baseball Bat: MCBF5 is only made with the one colorway pattern. The Marucci F5 -3 BBCOR Baseball Bat: MCBF52 would have a black/blue colorway.

Questions and Answers (20)

Have a question about the Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB9V3? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

What are the differences between this bat & the Marucci Cat 8 BBCOR? Which has a more balanced swing weight? Which is more forgiving and has larger sweet spot? Thank you,
glynn
The Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB9V3 utilizes a Comp-Lite end cap to help optimize the overall bat weight and swing weight. The advantage the Cat series has is in the size of the barrel and an anti-vibration knob to reduce vibrations. Both models will not be too forgiving on contact as the one-piece alloy construction is going to conduct vibrations to the player's hands.
Tyler
Would using lizard skin help to reduce vibration on this bat? Also, is there a one piece bat like this that doesn't have bad vibration?
John
Using a thicker grip tape on the Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB9V3 may offer slight reduction of vibration but the only way to complete rid of the vibration is consistent contact on the meat of the barrel. Some one-piece bats have started to incorporate varying designs with regards to handle and knob construction to help reduce vibration. Unfortunately we are not aware of anything with regards to the 2019 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB9V3 that is going to offer vibration control.
Cameron
What is the difference between last year's Rawlings VELO BBCOR bat and this Rawlings VELO BBCOR bat?
Travis
The biggest difference between this Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB9V3 and last year's Rawlings VELO BBCOR will be cosmetics.
Max
Is the bat grip different than last years?
Player
The grip on the Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB9V3 is different than the previous year's model. In our opinion, last year's Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB8V3 was a bit more tacky than this year's model.
Daveron
Does this bat feel like a Louisville Omaha 517? If not, which Rawlings bat would most likely feel like an Omaha?
Christian Coipel
The Rawlings bat most similar to the Omaha 517 will not be this Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB9V3). The reason is because this VELO has a composite end-cap on it that the Omaha 517 would not have featured. The most similar Rawlings bat to the Omaha 517 in regard to design will be the Rawlings 5150 (BB953). Since the design is so similar, I think the feel will be most similar as well.
Ben
How does the cosmetics of last year's bat change to this bat and does it change the bat at all?
Bill
The Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB8V3 offered a White / Gray / Blue color way, while the 2019 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB9V3 is Gold / Black. This doesn't really change the bat at all, the construction and design is the same as last year's version.
Logan
My son has the Easton Ghost X and I’ve been researching this bat and felt it and it feels more controllable through the zone. Thoughts on if I should buy or keep him with his Ghost?
John
The Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB9V3 is an extremely balanced one-piece option with a comp-lite end cap. Younger and/or smaller high school players find success with this bat, especially getting it through the zone.
Daveron
Is the barrel size the same on this and last year's model?
Scotty
Yes, the barrel size of the Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB9V3 will be the same as last year's Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bbat: BB8V3.
Max
What are the differences between the last year's bat and this Velo? Playing in the MidWest where it's chilly, is there too much sting in these bats? Contact hitter with some power, and have enjoyed Cat 7 and Mako bats in past.
mike
Not too much has changed from last year's bat to this VELO BBCOR by Rawlings. These bats are one-piece models, so they will sting a bit more than a two-piece model if you miss-hit balls off the end or get jammed inside.

How does the Rawlings Velo BBCOR compare to the Marucci Cat 8 BBCOR? Also, is the Marucci Connect Cat 8 a big difference compared to the Velo?
Jose
The Marucci Cat 8 and the Rawlings VELO should have similar feels since they are both one-piece, aluminum models. In my opinion the VELO feels slightly more balanced than the Cat 8, but not by much. The Cat 8 Connect is a two-piece, hybrid design with an alloy barrel and composite handle, so will offer a bit more flex and slightly different feel.

My son will need to use a BBCOR bat next season. He currently uses a 30", -5 bat. He is 5' 2", 105 lbs. I've read the Velo is one of the most balanced bats in the market, which he needs since he is a contact hitter. Would the Velo 31", -3 be too big a jump for him? Or would a 30", -3 would be more beneficial?
Jonah
With the player specs provided, it would be suggested to stay at a 30" option of the Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB9V3.
Daveron
Why did the price drop? Is there something wrong? Is it about to be banned by NCAA?
John
There is nothing wrong with this Rawlings VELO BBCOR (BB9V3). Once a bat has been out for an extended period of time, we are released from the price lock agreement with the manufacturer and are able to reduce the price as we see fit.

Only minor changes were made to the Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB9V3 when comparing it to last year's model. Those changes were color and grip tape.

What’s the difference in this bat and the Louisville Slugger 619?
Jeff
Both the Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB9V3 and the LS Solo 619 are one-piece alloy bats with balanced swing weights and composite end caps. The VELO, and the acoustic alloy, will be a louder bat on contact; this is the biggest difference between the two models.

How long has this bat been on the market?

The Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB9V3 was released about one year ago.
Max
Will there be any major difference between this Velo and the newest Velo? (I see the new one is made of A909I alloy rather than the acoustic alloy; also the newest VELO has the same end cap as this Velo)
Q
From what I have read on the Rawlings site, you are correct. The aluminum material on the newest VELO will be updated from the acoustic alloy on this Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB9V3). As well, the newest VELO will have a longer 2" end-cap made of composite material. I would imagine the 2" composite end-cap should make the bat feel even slightly more balanced than the past year versions of the VELO. Those updates on the newest version of the bat might make it worth moving to the newest VELO from this VELO.

What is the real difference between the Velo and the 5150?
Tim
They are similar models with one piece alloy construction with the pOp 2.0 technology and a balanced swing weight. The slight differences will be the alloy used and the end caps. Both are great options.
Daveron
what is the difference between the rawlings solo 619 bbcor bat and this rawlings velo bbcor. and which one would be better for a small contact hitter
Erick
The differences between the Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB9V3 and the Louisville Slugger Solo 619 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBS619B3 are relatvley small. Both of these bats are balanced. Both of these bats are alloy as well. . The Louisville Slugger Solo 619 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBS619B3 is hot out of the wrapper and not eligible for college play because of the new color standards. The Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB9V3 has a Precision Laser pOp 2.0 Increases Barrel Flex For More Pop where the Louisville Slugger Solo 619 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBS619B3 is stiff. The Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB9V3 would be great for any small contact hitter because of the balanced swing weight and because it features Comp-Lite End Cap Enhances Balance & Increases Swing Speeds.

Can this bat be used in cold weather?
Steven
This is an alloy model that should perform well in colder temperatures.
Kyle
What’s the difference between the 2017 and this one?
Juan
Besides the cosmetic differences, there is nothing from a structural component that would be different between the Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB9V3 and that of the Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V. Both bats feature a one-piece alloy design (acoustic alloy) with a composite end cap.

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings' glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
