Pros:  My son got his rolled which is not illegal it just breaks in the bat for you, anyway he is 13 about 125-130 lbs and he is hitting it like he is 6' 5'' and 250 lbs he is hitting it farther than ever. He had the previous model and this one is just as good if not more this one has less vibration than the 2016 Mako Xl -5 and a little bit more pop i recommend this bat for anybody trying to increase distance and hit some bombs my son recently hit one about 380ft he is CRUSHING the ball!!!! The barrel is also bigger and has a huge sweetspot.

Cons:  none

Pros:  This bat has some ridiculous pop im about 5 7 weigh 128lbs and ive hit many dingers with it way better than the cf8 in my opinion. The endload naturally makes the ball go farther i was usually hitting about 290 now my farthest is a 350ft bomb if you make good contact with this bat your gonna go yard and make the pitcher mad. I have the 32 in and it feels perfect in my hands if you are planning on hitting more dingers pick this bat up its way better than last years model im not a giant kid but im hitting like one its hot outta the wrapper it isnt even all the way broken in and im having so much success with this bat ive gone deep over 10 times since ive gotten this bat ive only played 5 tournaments and we usually play on 300 ft fields and im hitting them out effortlessly its insane how much pop this bat has best purchase ever

Cons:  a little pricy

Pros:  The bat is appropriately named. It is built for a big player with a long power swing. Between most of the weight loaded in the barrel plus an expanded barrel size, this is a real club. It is very close in actual size to a BBCOR bat and has a similar feel.

Cons:  Best for a larger, stronger player who can handle an oversized bat. Start-up swing weight is significant even in comparison with other end-weighted bats. And as with prior versions, this bat is heavier than the advertised weight by 1.5 ounces.

Pros:  I got this bat preordered last uear in preperation for my Varsity middle school team. I hit rarely with it before late Feb. So far this season on 325ft fields I have hit 2 homeruns in games and about 6 or 7 in practice. Best pop I have ever seen.

Cons:  you cant use it in high school.

Pros:  â€“Hits the ball a mile... especially off of fire-throwing dragons!

Pros:  My son's Easton Beast XL is a drop 5, 30" 25oz. He is transitioning from a drop 10. The way the weight is distributed, he doesn't even notice those extra 5 ounces. He has used other 30 inch drop 5 bats without these results. By the way, his 2 HRs were his first ever over a fence and both were to the opposite field.

Cons:  none yet

Pros:  At this price point, this bat is a great deal. It is very similar to the Ghost and while it has a little less pop than the original 2017 Zen -5 (before retooled), it is a very close competitor. My 14U son plays AAA Travel ball and went from a Voodoo to this and the results are very noticeable. I still think the Zen is the top bat but for $100+ less cost, the BEAST is truly a beast.

Cons:  No cons to mention

My son is turning 14 & going to high school after this summer 2018 season. Will he be able to use this bat for travel this summer & school ball next year?

This bat has the USSSA certification so it would be legal for travel tournaments that require this certification. It would not be legal for high school baseball however, as that requires a BBCOR certified model, which this bat is not. All BBCOR models are a -3 drop, while this bat is a -5.

I am still confused about the legality of this bat. My 14 year old plays middle school and Sr. Little League. Will this bat be legal?

Little league under the age of 14 will need a USA certification stamp on their bat. The 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK5 is legal for travel ball teams.

Dan Expert

Will the 1.15 bats be legal in Pony next year or will the USA bat standard be the only bats allowed?

USSSA bats with the 1.15 BPF will not be allowed in Little League sanctioned leagues in 2018. This includes Pony baseball.

Do you have the 2 5/8 -5 model in 31/26 size? I know it is available in that size. However, I don't see it listed in that size on your site.

Unfortunately, it looks like we have sold out of all sizes of the 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK5 except for the 32" 27 oz.

Logan Expert

Will this bat pass the new 2018 USSSA Baseball BPF specification rules?

The 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK5 will only be legal in 2018 for USSSA sanctioned games. The following leagues will not allow this bat: Little League, Dixie, Pony, Cal Ripken and Babe Ruth; note there could be other leagues as well that will require bats to feature the USABat stamp in 2018.

I am 13, 5'5" and 125 lbs. If I swing a 31 inch -8 with a balanced barrel, will this jump be fine or should I get a balanced bat?

The 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK5 will feature an end-loaded swing weight design. Whether or not to switch to an end-loaded bat from a balanced one is one of personal preference. As for the jump from a -8 to a -5, this transition will ultimately depend on how well the -8 was being handled. If this bat was at all too heavy then going to the 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK5 could be a tough transition.

Cameron Expert

I currently have the 2016 31 inch -5 MAKO and I noticed a dent in the end cap. Will this affect the bat's performance?

A dent in the end cap of the 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK5 will not affect the overall performance of the bat.

Cameron Expert

Hot out of the wrapper or does it need some break-in? Will bat be damaged if used in a batting cage with dimpled yellow rubber balls?

This bat will require a break-in period as it is a composite bat. We generally recommend 150-200 swings off a tee or soft toss, rotating the bat 1/4" each swing for a good break-in all around the barrel. Hitting dimple balls shouldn't damage the bat, but it will shorten the life of the bat faster than regular baseballs.

What is the difference between the 2017 Mako Beast XL SL17MK5 and the 2016 Mako XL SL16MK5?

The 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK5 and the 2016 MAKO XL are really similar bats. The only difference between the two is the cosmetic appearance. Both bats are made out of the same TCT Thermo composite and have end loaded swing weights.

Jason Expert

What's the difference between the TCT and IMX composite?

The big difference between the 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK5 TCT composite and the IMX that Easton used in the XL1 is it seems that the XL1 got hotter over time.

Cameron Expert
134503 Click to show/hide answer

What's the difference between this bat and the 2014 XL1?

Both the 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK5 and the former 2014 Easton XL1 are/were two-piece fully composite bats with end-loaded swing weight designs. A few of the differences between these bats are the barrel design, the 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK5 has a slightly longer barrel design, and the composite material that was used. The XL1 was using IMX composite while the MAKO BEAST XL is using Thermo Composite Technology. Speaking with customers it sounds like the IMX composite would get hotter over time so the performance of the XL1 might be better.

My 14 year old son has usually hit the one piece Easton Aluminum bat XL3. Lots of bat speed and hits for power. Is this comparable as a two piece or is there a one piece aluminum out there that would fit him better?

This 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SL17MK5) is not similar in construction to the Easton XL3 with it being a two piece composite bat. It will be end loaded like the XL3 through. I would definitely recommend it, it is a very quality bat.

Can you get this bat in a 2-3/4" barrel? -5?

Unfortunately the bat manufacturers do not make any -5 bats in the 2 3/4" barrel, including the 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SL17MK5).

Carter Expert

My son is 12, 5'0" and a 100 lbs 7th grader. He's been swinging a -10 COMBAT MAXUM. We really need to transition to -5 just not sure which route to go.

The 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK5 is a good bat to consider but does feature an end-loaded swing weight design. For someone that is making the transition from -10 to -5 and from a balanced bat (the COMBAT MAXUM is one of the most balanced bats on the market) we would recommend seeking out a bat with a more balanced swing weight design in a 30 inch model.

Cameron Expert
133287 Click to show/hide answer

My son is 13 and is swinging a drop -8 in the Easton TORQ. He weighs 110. His travel team told me that we need to transition him to a drop -5. Will this bat help him? I see it's a end loaded bat.

Yes, the 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SL17MK5) should help him and be a great option to move up to a -5.

Carter Expert
131975 Click to show/hide answer

My son just turned 13. He currently batting with the Mako TORQ -10. His coach suggested we start looking at a -5 to get him ready for high school in two years for the -3. Right now he is only 5'1" about 100 LBS. Is the new Mako Beast to end loaded for him and what is the best balanced bat for him for more pop? Don't want the bat to swing him.

If he has never swung an end loaded bat before, then making the jump up to a -5 end loaded bat would be a pretty big jump up. It could work just fine for him, but it is really tough to say from our position. A good alternative that is similar in design but balanced is the 2017 DeMarini CF Zen Senior League Baseball Bat: DXCB5 .

Jason Expert
131785 Click to show/hide answer

I'm deciding between this Easton Beast and the CF Zen (both -5 bats). Is one more balanced than the other?

Between this 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SL17MK5) and the CF Zen -5 (DXCB5), the CF Zen will be more balanced. However, I don't think the discrepancy in the feels of the 2 bats will be extremely drastic.

Ben Expert
131769 Click to show/hide answer

Do you have MAKO BEAST TORQ SL17MKT5? My son is 5' 90 lbs. He normally bats lead off or 2nd don't think he is ready for an end loaded bat. Your thoughts? Also what's the difference between the DeMarini CF Zen vs MAKO BEAST?

We do not have the 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SL17MK5) in the Torq version. Easton did not put the Torq in any of the 2017 models. If he is not ready for an end loaded bat and based on your sons height and weight I would recommend going with the 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SL17MK10) in the 30"/20 ounce version. The Mako Beast and the CF Zen are going to be very comparable bats. Both are going to feature two piece fully composite designs. They are extremely similar.

Carter Expert
131231 Click to show/hide answer

Are these bats weighted correctly or does the -5 swing more like a -3?

For 2017, Easton did a solid job of making their MAKO Beast bats weigh more closely to the listed weight (when compared to the 2016 MAKO bats). That being said, if you were to put a model of this 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SL17MK5) on a scale to weigh it statically, it would probably weigh 0.5 oz to 1.0 oz over the listed weight (as opposed to being 2.0 oz to 2.5 oz over the listed weight like the 2016 MAKO bats). Overall, I would say this MAKO Beast (-5) will swing more like a -5 bat.

Ben Expert
129801 Click to show/hide answer

What is the difference between the Mako Beast XL and the Mako Beast TORQ? My son is moving to 14u and needs a -5, but might not be big enough for an end loaded bat.

The 2017 MAKO Beast XL is an end loaded model. This year's Mako's have 1.5" longer barrel than last years. They did not make a MAKO Beast Torq this year. Last year's 2016 Easton MAKO TORQ XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16MKT5 is also an end loaded bat that has the rotating Torq handle.

Damon Expert
129513 Click to show/hide answer

My son currently swings the Easton XL1, 31"/26 oz size? Will this bat be/feel similar?

For the 2017 release from Easton, this 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SL17MK5) will be the bat most similar to the XL1 your player is currently swinging. Both bats feature the 2-piece, all-composite design and end-loaded swing weight. Overall, I would say the bats will be and feel similar.

Overall, both the 2017 Mizuno Covert -5 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL17COV5) and the 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Senior League Baseball Bat (DXVB5) are hybrids that offer a construction that limits vibration. They should perform similarly.

The Covert features an alloy barrel with a composite handle while the Marucci CAT 7 is a one-piece bat with an alloy construction. Both bats will be balanced but the Covert may offer better vibration reduction due to the hybrid design.

It would be hard to say one of the bats you mentioned would be better than the other. Description for 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK5
New for 2017! The latest and greatest members of the Power Brigade are here and ready to be unleashed.

The 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL is the newest version of one of the most popular baseball bats in the industry and it now has the biggest and most powerful composite barrel that Easton has ever made. The difference between the MAKO BEAST and the MAKO BEAST XL is the fact that the XL offers an end loaded swing weight rather than your typical balanced design. An XL end load gears more weight towards the end of the barrel for a more powerful and higher performing baseball bat that allows the ball to fly further and further. By extending and combining the game's longest two-piece composite barrel with the game's fastest swing speed, this bat is an absolute BEAST that offers the lowest swing weight index out of the entire 2017 Easton lineup. A low swing weight index results in a model that delivers power through fast swing speeds. Easton's redesigned TCT Thermo Composite technology now provides an extended speed barrel design. So, the BEAST's barrel is longer than ever for more plate coverage and a huge sweet spot. This extended barrel is connected to a 29/32 inch composite handle by the patented two-piece ConneXion technology that maximizes energy transfer while eliminating sting for optimized feel and comfort. Adding to the specs is the fact that each MAKO BEAST XL comes wrapped with the formidable HYPERSKIN grip. Easton: Unleash The Beast!
