Pros:  The ball just jumps right off the bat and into the outfield but even if you roll over the ball is still hit hard and looks like it is all good. My son has this bat and he shot up from a 8 hole to the 3 hole. He is hitting home-runes to all corners of the field. He say that this bat has the best feel, pop, and as zero vibration when he makes contact with the ball.

Cons:  Had it sense the week after it came out but still don't know the durability. but by the looks of it, it should be all good.

Pros:  The bat has excellent pop and the sound was so mean at contact that everyone in the cages at practice snapped their heads around. Living in the PNW hasn't given the opportunity to use it outside of cages yet, have indoor tournament in two weeks so we'll see then.

Cons:  none so far

Pros:  My son is 13 and we bought this bat as a backup bat to his Lousiville Slugger. He has only had it 2 weeks now and he hit outside on 300’ fences for the first time last week and hit 7 home runs. i think his Louisville Slugger just became his backup bat.

Cons:  Only had it a couple of weeks so cant speak to the durability yet.

Pros:  Superb feel with end loaded power. Two piece composite construction is wound up tight with terrific pop & sound. The CXN Stopper & huge sweet spot barrel will allow both contact and power hitters to benefit from its performance. Easton continues to set the Standard... The bat's official name (BEAST XL) is quite appropriate...

Cons:  Everyone on the team wants to use it ...

Pros:  The Ball just jumps off the bat has a great sweet spot. My son keeps hitting Home Runs and Doubles with it. You can see him on YouTube at Izzy Nieto watches Owen take one in the Ribs & then get Revenge. You can see how the bat sounds and how the ball jumps of the bat. He only uses it for game time.

Cons:  Dont really have any.

Pros:  my son just received the CAT6 and loves it. Great pop out of the wrapper and very balanced. He had to switch to all aluminum and -8 for the middle school team but the transition from a drop ten half/half has been seamless. In fact he has the CAT6 as his number one bat.

Cons:  None so far.

Pros:  Just bought the 29" for my 9yr old son and wow! I have never seen him hit so well. The -8 weight means the user needs to be physically strong enough to swing hard but the balance makes it much easier. One of the best I've ever seen in 5 years of coaching and that includes all of the expensive composites. Looks great too.

Cons:  Nothing yet.

My son is and 5’4” and weighs around 170 and he hits for power. Would you recommend this bat over a LS Prime 918? He is currently swinging a 32” -8 Marucci CAT 7 which has a balanced swing weight and we want to add a second bat to his arsenal. That or another bat choice you would recommend.

I would recommend the 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK8 if he is more of a power hitter since it is end loaded. The Louisville Slugger Prime 918 will be balanced and much closer to the Marucci CAT 7, so if you are looking for a different option the Easton MAKO BEAST XL would be a great choice.

I want to see if it is good.

The 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK8 is a two-piece fully composite bat with an end-loaded swing weight. This bat is a great option for a power type hitter between the ages of 12-14 before getting into high school.

My son is almost 13 years old. He is 5'1" and weighs 100 lbs (strong hitter). Which MAKO BEAST would be best suited for him the end loaded SL17MK8 or balanced bat SL17MK10B?

Based upon your player's age, I would definitely recommend looking to the 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SL17MK8) since it has a -8 length-to-weight ratio. If he is a strong hitter, then I think he will able to adjust to a -8 length-to-weight ratio and end-loaded swing weight.

Since USSSA recently banned the 2017 CF Zen Balanced (-8) 2 5/8" Baseball Bat I am looking for a comparable bat for my son. How does this bat compare to the CF Zen? Also does the Mako Beast need break in time like typical Mako's and if so how many swings? Last question - what would you recommend a CF Zen drop 8 user switch to? Thanks...

The Mako Beast is arguably one of the closest bats to the CF Zen performance wise. It will require a similar break-in period since it is a composite bat just like the CF Zen. This Mako Beast is an excellent choice to look at, as well as other options like the Marucci Cat 7 or the Louisville Slugger Prime 917.

Does the 2017 version have a larger sweet spot than the 2016 version of the same bat?

The 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK8 will have a slightly larger sweet spot compared to the 2016 model as this bat will have a slightly longer barrel (about 1.5 inches longer than the 2016 model).

Cameron Expert
134412 Click to show/hide answer

What is the difference in the MAKO BEAST XL model and the regular MAKO BEAST model? Which model is better for a 5' tall, 90 lb 11 years old?

The main difference in the 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK8 and the regular MAKO BEAST is the swing weight design. The MAKO XL models will feature an end-loaded swing weight design while the regular MAKOs feature a balanced weight design. For a stronger player with faster bat speed an end-loaded model typically is more beneficial as these bats will allow the player to generate greater barrel whip through the zone which can translate to additional power in the swing. A balanced bat like the regular MAKO is a better design for those players that are contact or gap to gap type hitters. For an 11 year old who is 5' and 90 lbs, we would recommend the 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK10. The bat listed in the question (2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK8) is better suited for a player in 7th grade.

Cameron Expert

Does the MAKO BEAST XL have more pop than the 2016 MAKO?

The big difference between the 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK8 and the 2016 model will be the 1.5 inch extended barrel that the 2017 model features. This means a larger sweet spot which can potentially produce more pop.

What, if anything, is actually new in the 2017 Mako Beast compared to the 2016 Mako models besides the paint job?

Carter Expert

My 13 yr old is transitioning from Little League to a high school prep squad. Question is, does he go to a -8 or -5 in the BEAST XL? He's 5'4" and was swinging a Mako XL TORQ -10 last season.

It really just depends on what he can handle. If your son can handle a -5 at this point that would be the ideal transition to -3. However, if he cannot handle the -5 this year using one will offer him no advantage. It will only hurt his swing. I would recommend going to a batting cage and swinging both of them and seeing what he is more comfortable with.

Is this bat legal for 13 year old Babe Ruth?

The 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SL17MK8) is NOT going to be legal in 13 year old Babe Ruth. This is because for a composite bat to be legal in 13 year Babe Ruth it would need to be BBCOR certified. This only applies to composite bats. My son is 13 years old, 5' tall and 95 lbs. He has been using (and really likes) the Adidas EQT 30" 22oz, but we can't find that bat for sale anywhere, even on your site which we have purchased over 10 bats from your company due to selection, price, and trust. Would you recommend the Marucci CAT 6 Senior League Baseball Bat (this would need to be USSSA certified as well) as an excellent alternate to the Adidas bat?

First off, we certainly appreciate your business and kind words. As for the recommendation, I believe this Marucci CAT 6 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBC68 would be a great option as an alternative to the EQT. The Cat 6 will provide you with the same 30" 22oz. size, as well as an improved AZ3000 alloy for season-long durability and proven performance. This bat is USSSA certified.

My son is 13 years old 5'1" and 110 lbs. Would the 32 inch -8 be a good bat for him?

Based on his height and weight, we would suggest the 31" model in the Marucci CAT 6 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBC68. If you feel that your player has good bat speed and strength though you could certainly jump up to the 32".

My son is 12 and is 5'3" and 135 pounds. Would you recommend the 32" bat?

Based upon your player's height and weight, we would recommend going with an option of this Marucci CAT 6 Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBC68) in the 31" or 32" size. If you are feeling better with 32" option that will be just fine for use by your player as long as you feel he can handle the 24 oz weight of the 32" option.

Ben Expert
121795 Click to show/hide answer

I am looking at the Cat 6 and the XL3. I would appreciate any thoughts in comparing the two.

The Marucci CAT 6 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBC68 and the 2016 Easton XL3 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16X38 are both one-piece alloy bats. These two bats will feature different swing weights though. The 2016 Easton XL3 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16X38 will feature an end-loaded swing weight while the Marucci CAT 6 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBC68 will have a balanced swing weight. The Marucci and its balanced swing weight will be beneficial for the player that is more of a contact hitter. It will feature a larger sweet spot but less concentrated in weight (sweet spot that is). The XL3 will benefit the power hitter more as the sweet spot on this bat will be smaller but more concentrated in weight. What this creates, is more of a pendulum/whip effect with regards to the barrel; thus creating more distance on balls that are centered on the sweet spot. A top heavy bat can cause top hand lag though. This barrel lag will lead to a slower swing and a bat path that is less ideal for making consistent/quality contact.

How long will this bat typically last?

The lifespan on the Marucci CAT 6 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBC68 will vary. Depending on the usage (bat used for all practice, games, batting practice, only one player using, etc), the weather (weather under 70 degrees can diminish the lifespan of a bat quicker) and whether or not the ball is hit on the barrel versus the end cap or towards the hands will all affect the bat's durability. With that being said, the average lifespan will be tough to pinpoint.

Is this bat allowed for the Intermediate 50/70 division of Little League?

The 2015 Marucci CAT 6 Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBC68) will have the USSSA certification stamp and a big barrel. If your league allows big barrel bats, this would be perfect!

Does this bat come with a 2 3/4" barrel diameter?

The 2015 Marucci CAT 6 Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBC68) is only available in a 2 5/8" barrel diameter. Marucci only makes the CAT 6 with a 2 3/4" barrel for the Coach Pitch version, the 2015 Marucci CAT 6 Junior Big Barrel Baseball Bat (MJBBC6).

I'm 9 years old, 5'1" and weigh 148 pounds. I've been using a DeMarini Voodoo 30" 21 oz. How will it compare to the new Cat 6?

The 2015 Marucci CAT 6 Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBC68) is a one piece full alloy model featuring the AZ3000 Aerospace grade alloy. It will feature a more balanced swing weight than the Voodoo. Additionally, it will be quite a bit more stiff through the zone than the two-piece Voodoo.

I have twins that play 9 year old travel ball (kid pitch). They are about 1" and 5 lbs. of each other. The tallest is 54" and is about 68 lbs. We are currently using the Cat 5 27/17. One is the lead off hitter and the other is around 5th. They both are home run hitters. What would you suggest for the Spring? Would the CAT 6 be good for both? Should they have separate bats?

The 28" or 29" 2015 Marucci CAT 6 Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBC68) would be ideal. It is great for power or contact hitters. The balanced design will allow for fast bat speeds. Also, the fully alloy design will not require any period of break-in.

I only buy Marucci bats for my 12yo. for the last 3 months he has been swinging a drop -3 Team Marucci. It's made him stronger, and he's hit a few shots, but he's not ready for it yet. What kind of results are reasonable to expect from his new Marucci CAT 6 drop -8?

The 2015 Marucci CAT 6 Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBC68) is a great bat for a player that age. It is a one-piece all alloy design like his TEAM model. The CAT 6 will be more balanced but with a larger sweet spot. I think you will see better results with this CAT 6 due to the larger sweet spot and the lighter weight which will help him get through the zone quicker with faster pitching.

Is this bat as balanced as the Black and will this bat last me about two years?

Given the countless ways and situations a bat can be used in, it is impossible to predict how long the bat will last for a player. The 2015 Marucci CAT 6 Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBC68) is a durable model and it does come with a 12 month warranty to protect against breakage. The CAT 6 will be similarly balanced to the 2014 Marucci Black Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBB148).

I am 4'9",104 lbs, and I am 10 years old. I am swinging a DeMarini Voodoo 2014 and it is working well. I am wondering, which length do you think I should get?

Based on your height and weight, we recommend a 30" model in the 2015 Marucci CAT 6 Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBC68).

Better bat: CAT 6 -8 or Easton XL3 -9, for an 11 year old contact hitter with power?

That will be a matter of preference. The 2015 Marucci CAT 6 Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBC68) features a balanced swing weight, which is generally preferred by contact hitters. The XL3 features an end loaded design, which is normally preferred by power hitters. Since the player can hit for both power and contact, it will truly be up to them and if they can handle the additional end load of the XL3, or if they want to stay with a balanced model like the CAT 6. Both are great options to go with.

Description for 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK8
New for 2017! The latest and greatest members of the Power Brigade are here and ready to be unleashed.

The 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL is the newest version of one of the most popular baseball bats in the industry and it now has the biggest and most powerful composite barrel that Easton has ever made. The difference between the MAKO BEAST and the MAKO BEAST XL is the fact that the XL offers an end loaded swing weight rather than your typical balanced design. An XL end load gears more weight towards the end of the barrel for a more powerful and higher performing baseball bat that allows the ball to fly further and further. By extending and combining the game's longest two-piece composite barrel with the game's fastest swing speed, this bat is an absolute BEAST that offers the lowest swing weight index out of the entire 2017 Easton lineup. A low swing weight index results in a model that delivers power through fast swing speeds. Easton's redesigned TCT Thermo Composite technology now provides an extended speed barrel design. So, the BEAST's barrel is longer than ever for more plate coverage and a huge sweet spot. This extended barrel is connected to a 29/32 inch composite handle by the patented two-piece ConneXion technology that maximizes energy transfer while eliminating sting for optimized feel and comfort. Adding to the specs is the fact that each MAKO BEAST XL comes wrapped with the formidable HYPERSKIN grip. Easton: Unleash The Beast!

This 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK8 features a -8 length to weight ratio, a 2 5/8 inch barrel diameter, and the USSSA 1.15 BPF Certification. It is also backed by a full twelve (12) month manufacturer's warranty! Description for Marucci CAT 6 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBC68
When the CAT 5 burst onto the baseball scene, it became one of the top aluminum bats on the market. This year, Marucci raises the stakes again with unbelievable new technology in the CAT 6. Through endless field testing with the top players in America, Marucci discovered that vibration in the top hand is the most common complaint amongst amateur baseball players. Marucci has acquired a patented new anti-vibration technology that blows the competition away. They hired noted bat scientist Dr. Daniel A. Russell to do some lab testing against the top bats on the market. The results were shocking. He found that the vibration dampening rate on the CAT 6 is 5.6 times higher than the next closest competitor! For the player, this means that they can step up to the plate worry-free with one thing on their mind; blasting one over the fence! This is literally the smoothest swinging bat ever produced. Experience the difference of this one-piece bat made from the most responsive alloy in the industry. Marucci: Game Tested. Player Approved. This bat features the USSSA 1.15 BFP Stamp. The Marucci CAT 6 carries a Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty. Free Shipping!
