Pros:  Is balanced the same as the CF8 (green bat). Not a lot of sting. Seems to have a good sweet spot. Very close to the original Zen but noticeably less pop.

Cons:  Noticeably less pop then the CF8 and the illegal Zen. I contacted demarini and was advised they used a "ceramic sleeve" that was inserted into the barrell. This stiffens up the barrel and restricts the "trampoline effect". We hit about 150 baseballs outside and the bat did seem to heat up the more my 12u travel ball son hit with it. He liked it even though the pop was less. He uses a CF8 during his games and had the illegal Zen as a back up. He wanted the retooled bat so we bought a new one with the voucher money.

Pros:  My son loved the performance. Very easy warranty process.

Cons:  We purchased a new CF8 for the Elite 32 at Disney last July, unfortunately by the end of the tournament the bat was already cracking. We went through DeMarini's warranty process, and was issued a voucher number for a replacement. In April we ordered a new Re-tooled CF Zen (performance was not as good as the CF8 but still very good) Sadly like the CF8 within a few weeks it cracked. While I understand DeMarini's warranty policies and I'm thankful for the first replacement, I still feel that a company should stand behind their product especially one that fails within the first few weeks. As a guy that works hard for his money I can no longer afford to spend the kind of money that DeMarini charges for bats that are less durable then their competitors

Pros:  for a brief period, there was decent pop, but soon after it started cracking.

Cons:  no durability. this is the third CF8 in a year. Last years CF8 broke in the cage within two days. once returned, received the illegal CF8 then the retooled one. after 4 tournaments its cracking. my sons buddy had the same experience. appaently these bats are not made for tournament players. ridiculous for the money spent.

Pros:  Great bat with great pop. Not sure on durability yet.

Cons:  Plan on this bat weighing at least 2oz more than advertised. I put my boys on the scale and his 30/20 weighed in at 22.17. Still a nice bat, but really a drop 8. Should have probably went with the next size down.

Pros:  Still has a nice pop and nice feel to it.

Cons:  Bat weighs 3 oz over stated weight. Too heavy for my 9-year-old to swing. Demarini Customer service told me it's because of the ceramic sleeve applied to the inside of the bat.

Pros:  Good pop

Cons:  A lot of money for a throw away bat. I coach a 11U Travel team and we have had 4 Demarini bats break in last 2 months all of the bats were less than 6 months old!! Getting a 2019 with a voucher praying it last a season, if not ill never waste my money again on these products or guide my players parents towards Demarini.

Cons:  You may get some push back at tournaments about this back being ban but it has the the "R" and an orange end cap to show it has been retooled and it is legal for USSSA play.

Pros:  This has been a great bat. My son loves the feel and it is driving the ball much better than his COMBAT. I don't allow him to use it below 60 degrees which I think helps with durability on the composite. They get brittle the colder it it. Price was great and we are very satisfied.

Cons:  None

Pros:  My son has wanted a "De Marini" - meaning a USSSA Zen - since he started playing travel. These bats have a huge following - the kids worship them. Well, at this price point, I could get him what he wanted without missing a car payment, and the bat is fantastic. We did the break-in precisely (200 1/2 speed swings, rotating 1/4 turn each time), and the bat is holding up well and hitting bombs. He is a big strong kid and a good hitter, and when he squares it up, the ball is gone in a hurry. Overall, the bat is: - "Hot" - the ball jumps off of it - designed with max contact area - the barrel stays at the max diameter over a large distance - reduces vibration to the hitter's hands - a tremendous value

Cons:  Understand these composite bats have a life expectancy - they will all crack given enough swings and under certain environmental conditions. Control what you can. Only use it for games, not practices or BP, don't let teammates borrow it outside of games, you get the idea. It's like anything else - take care of it and it will last longer. It is well balanced, but a little heavy toward the end cap, which can cause weaker kids to develop bad swings where the barrel lags behind the hands. If your player is not on the stronger side, opt for a shorter length, which will make the bat lighter and easier to swing. I see a lot of kids swinging bats that are too big for them. You put a smaller bat in their hands, and they become totally different hitters. It's not everything, but it definitely can make a difference. I'll take bat speed over plate coverage any day. Overall, I don't see a lot of cons here. It's a great bat - but like all composites, it will break eventually.

Pros:  After reading other reviews I chose this bat for my son to use for this season. With the insert it dors swing like a drop 8, but it was bought purposley for that reason. We are using it as a transition bat to get to a drop 5. Extra care was taken to get the proper break-in and my son put in roughly 200-250 medium swings between the tee and soft toss before use. It was then used for two regular games and continued to heat up to the point where multiple players on the team are now using it as it has become pretty hot. We did not have any previous experience with Demarini composite bats as I have been a Louisville Slugger person, but so far I have been impressed with what I have seen the bat do.

Cons:  Even with the extra care to break in, I have already saw some nicks in the bat that make me a little leary as what to expect from the durability. There have not been any problems through 3 tournaments with multiple players using the bat, but I want to see if it lasts the entire season. At the price I bought it for I will not complain if it doesn't last, but it might hold me back if I had to purchase one at the full cost.

Pros:  My son is 8 and absolutely loves this bat. He replaced his CAT 6 with the 2016 HEX Alloy. It is a very well designed bat with tremendous pop right out of the box. No break in period required. This bat has great balance and a very large sweet spot. My son's confidence has even improved with the use of this bat. The sound it makes on contact is awesome. I have been approached by many coaches and parents at tournaments inquiring about how they can get this bat. Marucci has done it again.

Cons:  None

Pros:  Performance/Pop is unmatched. Great bat for any age...I have a 8 & 13 yr old that swing this bat, best alloy bat on the market. Very durable, have been taking 500 plus cuts a week since January....no dents and pop is still as if it just came out of the wrapper. Kids love the sound when the ball comes off the bat. We have had several parents and coaches inquire about where to get this bat.

Pros:  My son is 8yrs old and has been using this bat since the summer. He old bat was a Easton Mako, he seemed to never get the drive off of his Mako. This Marucci has been a pleasant surprise. My son is not a bulky kid, he is actually small framed. But he is able to rip the ball with this bat. I watch him in batting practice with his coach and see a big difference with the way the ball travels off the bat now vs how it did with the Mako. I highly recommend this bat. The coach who is a former pro seems to be impressed with the bat as well after taking a few swings with it. The Marucci has been very impressive so far.

Cons:  None yet.

Pros:  Just got this bat this past weekend for my son who plays 10U travel ball. We went up in size from a 28/18 to a 29/19 but since the bat is so balanced he didn't really seem to notice the change. The bat has a lot of pop and a big sweet spot. First time swinging it he drove a outside pitch opposite field to the fence for a double. Oh, one of the teams we played had probably five or six of their players swinging the same bat.

Pros:  Pop out of the box, feel, balance

Cons:  My 11 year old son had this bat for 2 1/2 months. It didn't even see game use. Had great pop out of the box and gave him added distance over other alloy bats. Only used for training 2-3 times a week in warm weather and indoor facility. It got a 2 inch crack on the sweet spot. This was a replacement for the Elite, which he dented badly after 3 months of use. I'm done buying Marucci.

Pros:  My 8 year old son loves the 27 17. We received this bat as a warranty replacement for the Cat 6 that dented after 11 months of heavy use! We have a hitting station in our garage and he's taken this to the cages three times. He loves it. The bat is well balanced and gets through the zone quick. The pop off this bat is ridiculous! He likes it better than the Cat 6 and it is hotter in my opinion. He took it to the field last week and is absolutely roping the ball!

Pros:  My son used the Easton S3 '13-'15 models the last three seasons with great success. He's a line drive/power hitter that prefers one piece alloy over composite. The '16 Marucci Hex Alloy is very similar in performance and has held up well through many batting sessions so far. It's by far the most popular "hot" bat in the Houston area...seems like every team has a few in their lineups. The "ping" off the bat is a head turner!!!

Cons:  Grips ok, but replaced with Lizard skin.

Pros:  I can't honestly rate the durability because the bat just arrived today but I have to or the site won't take my review. Our first time out I was diving for cover on the pitchers mound and watching my son send balls into the outfield or rip burning grounders. This bat is the real deal. One of our baseballs is now completely misshapen. This bat could add some serious fun to our season.

Pros:  I will agree with other reviewing posts that the ball does have a lot more pop than the Easton S1 my son was using. It also has that distinctive sound that turns heads. The weight is balanced, but odd. The bat just cracked, but Marucci warranty has already contacted me about getting it back to them for replacement.

Cons:  After 8 months of use my son literally opened up a 4 inch crack right in the sweet spot. He's not a power hitter and he doesn't share the bat with the team so this is all one kid use. We made sure that he didn't use it during cold weather and it was stored inside to eliminate environmental fatigue.

Cons:  Absolutely no durability! My 12 year old has destroyed two of these bats. First one was a replacement for an Elite, which dented in a half season's use. The first Hex cracked within 2 months of use. Good customer service sent us a second one, which was an exception to their policy. We took it out of the box last weekend, and it had two huge dents within the first 20 swings. All hitting done in warm weather/indoor facilities with real baseballs. If your kid swings hard and has some power, avoid this bat! The pop and feel of this bat are great out of the box, but I will not be buying any more Marucci bats.

Pros:  I coach a 10u team, and help out with a 12u team. Both groups have had amazing success with this bat. I have never left a bat review before, but this has been absolutely incredible. The pop and the durability have been terrific. We are careful with the bat - don't let it get too cold. And it's held up great so far, about 15 games into the season.

Cons:  None so far, through 15 games.

Pros:  My son plays 9u ball and this is his first 2 3/4 bat. I purposely made him learn to swing on a 2 1/4 so he was not relying on a big sweet spot. When he used this for the first time with BP the ball jumped off the bat. The whole team, including myself was pretty amazed! Highly Recommended. We will see about durability. My son is not a hard swinger, but has very sound mechanics. (Side note: this bat has so much pop I was pitching from the mount to him and he hit a liner right back at me. I had no time to react and the ball hit my wrist. I was impressed with the hit, mad I got hammered by a ball. I hope that this doesn't happen in a game and he hits a pitcher....)

Cons:  None so far.

My son plays 13 Majors and he is trying to find a new bat or two.I have read the reviews on the DeMarini bat and it does not have the best reviews. I want him to get the most out of this bat. Is this a good choice or should I look at other ones?

The 2017 DeMarini CF Zen USSSA -10 Senior League Baseball Bat: DXCBZR has been a very popular model with loads of performance, but has had some bad reviews due to the durability. For your 13 year old I would look at getting a bit heavier model, which will increase the mass behind his swing resulting in more performance. Take a look at the 2019 DeMarini CF Zen -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB5-19, which will be a premier -5 bat.

We play 8U coach pitch and I have seen two of the non-retooled bats break. First bat, the barrel split like it was twisted in two opposite directions, second the barrel broke off the handle, will the retooled bat hold up better?

We have not seen an increase in durability issues with the re-tooled version of the 2017 DeMarini CF Zen USSSA -10 Senior League Baseball Bat: DXCBZR. We suggest reading over the customer reviews on this bat as they are generated from individuals that have directly purchased the bat.

I just purchased a Marucci Cat 6 27/17 for my son. He is 4'2'' and 55 lb. He plays 9U travel ball. I am not happy with the performance. I know the speculation of the weights. I am wanting to try a Demarini CF Zen -10, which should I try, 28/18 or 27/16?

Based solely on your player's height and weight, and if he is playing kid pitch baseball, I would suggest a 28" 2017 DeMarini CF Zen USSSA -10 Senior League Baseball Bat: DXCBZR. However, if he is playing coach pitch, you could consider the 27/16 junior big barrel model, especially if he struggled at all with the 17 ounce bat he was swinging previously.

Is this bat legal for 13u USSSA?

The 2017 DeMarini CF Zen USSSA -10 Senior League Baseball Bat: DXCBZR is not legal for 13U USSSA play as this level requires a minimum of a -8 USSSA bat. I"ve been reading that this bat comes in heavier than what is stated. What is the actual weight of the 30/20?

All bats are weighed before the paint, grip, knob, and end cap are put on the bat so bats usually are going to be slightly heavier than the listed weight. The 2017 DeMarini CF Zen USSSA -10 Senior League Baseball Bat: DXCBZR tends to be close to 1.8 oz. heavier than the listed weight.

How does the 2017 Blue CF Zen -10 compare to the 2017 Green Zen, and the 2018 Orange Zen, in regard to pop that each bat has? I have read reviews that state the 2017 Blue Zen has a lot less pop since being retooled. How do these bats Compare in Pop to the 2017 Marrucci Hex?

Pop is always more one of personal opinion. With the 2017 DeMarini CF Zen USSSA -10 Senior League Baseball Bat: DXCBZR there have been some mentioning of poor performance. Some of that may have to do with the fact people were accustomed to the performance of its predecessor which was recalled due to being too hot. So far, customers do like the feel and performance of the new 2018 DeMarini CF Zen -10 Senior League Baseball Bat: WTDXCBZ. Some slight alterations to the end cap and connection point design give this bat more balance and vibration reduction but hard to say if there is a gap in performance capabilities between this bat and the previous re-tooled model from 2017.

Based of your players height and weight, I would recommend a 31 or 32 inch bat. The 2017 DeMarini CF Zen USSSA -10 Senior League Baseball Bat: DXCBZR might be too light for him as he will be transitioning to BBCOR in the next couple years. For 2017, I would say that the more popular option has been the CF Zen (especially before the re-call on the original model was made). However, we have not received a high amount of reviews on this 2017 DeMarini CF Zen **Re-Tooled** -10 Senior League Baseball Bat (DXCBZR). It is hard to be completely accurate when stacking it up next to the Voodoo which has received good reviews, but not a lot of total reviews. Per your son's height and weight, we would recommend using the Marucci Hex Alloy Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBAHAX10 in a 28 inch model. If you feel his bat speed would be slowed down considerably using a 28 inch model then there is certainly nothing wrong with going down one inch and one ounce.

The two-piece design will help ease the stinging sensation a player feels when not squaring up the ball and the balanced swing weight will make it easier for younger players to handle.

My 6 yr old son is playing 7U coach pitch and using a Easton Mako Beast 26/14. His league just banned the use of composite bats so his coach recommended the Hex Alloy bat. Do you recommend this bat or a Cat 6 or Cat 7 in 26/16? He will be playing kid pitch in a couple if seasons.

If you wanted to use the bat for more than a couple seasons I would recommend the 2016 Marucci Hex Alloy Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBAHAX10) in a 27/17. If you were just planning on getting a bat for the end of coach pitch I would recommend getting the Marucci Cat 7 Junior Big Barrel in the 26/16.

My son is 5'3" and a slender 85 lbs. He swings his younger brother's Hex Alloy 29"/19 oz and hammers it. What size would be appropriate for him (I'm thinking 31"/21 oz)?

Based upon your player's height and weight, I think that a 30" length of bat would be good for him. Since he has been using a 29"/19 oz size and been doing well, I don't think you need to move all the way up to the 31"/21 oz size. However, we have this 2016 Marucci Hex Alloy Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBAHAX10) in the 30" and 31" sizes. The 30" would be best for this exact point in time, but the 31" would last the longest for him into the future.

Based upon your player's height and weight, you could consider moving him to a 31" length bat. I might suggest looking for a bat with a -5 or -8 length-to-weight ratio. This 2016 Marucci Hex Alloy Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBAHAX10) with its -10 length-to-weight ratio might be a little light for him at his size.

(1) From my understanding, this can be used in Top Gun travel ball, but can not be used in Little League Recreation ball; is that correct? (2) Also, my son is 9 yrs old and he is 4'7" and 65 pounds. I was thinking about the 29"/19 oz size. Is that what you would recommend?

(1) This 2016 Marucci Hex Alloy Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBAHAX10) features USSSA 1.15 BPF certification and a 2 3/4" barrel diameter. Because of those features, it should be legal in just about all travel ball circuits, but will not be allowed in any division of Little League sanctioned baseball. (2) Based upon your player's height and weight, my general recommendation would be to go with the 29" length option as long as your player can handle the resulting 19 oz weight.

Also, do you think we should consider dropping to a 30" now that the bat is going to be much heavier?

You could definitely drop to a 30" if you feel like it was needed. But I think he will be fine with a 31". I would highly recommend the 2016 Marucci Hex Alloy Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBAHAX10. It is a very balanced bat and will feel light.

If I am correct. a Junior Big Barrel bat has a thinner wall than a Senior League Big Barrel bat. Does this mean a JBB bat will be hotter and have more of a trampoline effect than a SLBB bat? If this stands true, the Marucci CAT 6 JBB will be hotter and have more trampoline effect than the Marucci Hex Alloy SLBB.

The 2016 Marucci Hex Alloy Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBAHAX10 will have thicker barrel walls than the Marucci CAT 6 Junior Big Barrel Baseball Bat: MJBBC6. In essence, the Marucci CAT 6 Junior Big Barrel Baseball Bat: MJBBC6 would be hotter as it will feature thinner barrel walls compared to the 2016 Marucci Hex Alloy Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBAHAX10. However, the Marucci CAT 6 Junior Big Barrel Baseball Bat: MJBBC6 is designed for coach pitch only leagues as these thinner barrel wall bats will dent very easily and become defective when velocity is over 40 MPH. Also, a Junior Big Barrel bat is designed for younger players who will not be able to generate as much bat speed as high bat speed can also lead to the bat becoming defective in a short amount of time.

What would be a benefit getting the 2 5/8 inch barrel diameter bat instead of 2 3/4"?

The 2016 Marucci Hex Alloy Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBAHAX10 in a 2 3/4 inch barrel would give a player a greater chance of being able to miss hit a ball and still get good distance/feel on the batted ball. The benefit of the 2 5/8 inch barrel would be that this is the barrel size one would have to use in high school and college and also makes players focus more as a poorly hit ball on this barrel size will not be as forgiving as on the 2 3/4 inch barrel.

The 2016 Marucci Hex Alloy Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBAHAX10) is a one-piece alloy design and this design would be a good option for a power type hitter as the one-piece allows for a stiffer feel. Description for Marucci Hex Alloy Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBAHAX10
The Marucci Hex revolutionized what was attainable with a composite bat design, and now hitters who prefer the traditional feel and sound of a fully Alloy construction can wield that same ground-breaking technology you find only in Marucci bats! The Marucci Hex Alloy Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBAHAX10 may look like a typical one-piece Alloy design, but under its electric neon green and silver paint scheme, this bat is truly innovative. Each MSBAHAX10 is forged from Marucci's new AZ4X Alloy and is individually tuned for optimum performance in each length it is produced. The Hex's barrel provides the maximum barrel length, and it is also ring-free which only maximizes the trampoline effect a hitter can create. The ultra-soft micro-perforated comfort grip and sting-free ergonomic knob round off this premium design by improving feel and control while reducing vibration. Marucci: Honor The Game! The Marucci Hex Alloy Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBAHAX10 is the Official Baseball Bat of the USSSA All-American Games, features the BPF 1.15 Performance Certification, and is backed by a Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty.
