DeMarini Bustos 10U Parent parent

Pros: Super lightweight. My 9 year old daughter can get this bat around much easier than her other bats. Plus, she loves the look (whatever).

Cons: Aluminum barrel doesn't seem to have as much pop as her teammates composite bats. Overall, a great bat otherwise.

Two Bats Tom - Ladies of Auburn Softball Sluggers ( coach

Pros: This bat is fast and has great pop. My daughter just started using two bats - one for faster pitchers that she faces - and this is it. She notes that she does not feel much in her hands - first time I have heard her say that - and that is off a Jugs machine with balls coming in at 48 mph.

Cons: Can't think of any.

Pros: Very good pop and feel. The bat looks great and hits hard.

Cons: I've seen two break of the older models break in half with little use. 2017 model dented up pretty easily.

Good bat for the price Steve coach

Pros: - Good bat with a lot of hitting zone - My daughter has used two of these for years, only changing size as she grew. - 13 good drop ratio for younger youth players

Cons: As they get older/stronger there are better bats. Previous post "seen two break" is a bad review, as he claims that he saw two older ones break and this one dented easily. All bats break eventually... and this bat is geared towards younger players.

My 12 year old daughter is 5'3" & weighs 87 lbs. What size do you suggest?
Pam
Based on your daughters height and weight we would recommend a 31"/18 ounce 2017 DeMarini Bustos -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat (DXBFP).
Carter
My daughter is 8 years old, 50 inches tall and 52 lbs. What size is best for her?
junglejim
Based on her height and weight, we suggest a 29" model in the 2017 DeMarini Bustos -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: DXBFP.
Jason
My daughter is 11 and weighs 100 pounds. She is 52.5 inches tall. What size do you recommend for her?
Monica
Based on your daughter's height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2017 DeMarini Bustos -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: DXBFP in a 31 inch 18 ounce model.
Cameron
My daughter is about 50" and weighs about 70 lbs. She has an amazing swing and can hit the ball great. I want to get her a bat, but not sure what would be good for her. Her last bat dented. Want to get a new bat that will last. What do you suggest?
marc
Based on your daughter's height and weight, we would recommend getting a 29 inch bat. The last bat denting could be a result of the previous bat being too light (if it dented quickly). If the player is stronger and can generate more bat speed than the average player of her same age then it might be beneficial from a durability standpoint to go with a heavier bat (-11 or -12).
Cameron
My daughter is 9. She is 57" tall, weighs 100 pounds, and is a lefty. What bat do you suggest for her?
boltfn
Based on your daughter's height and weight, we would recommend getting a 31 inch bat. The best weight of bat to get will depend on how well she is handling the current bat she is using. Based on the age of the player (9 years old) it would be wise to go with a lighter bat like the 2017 DeMarini Bustos -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: DXBFP.
Cameron
My 9 yr old daughter is 53" tall and 68 lbs. What size bat would you recommend? Do you think the Bustos is a good bat for her in 10U?
heat
Based on your daughter's height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2017 DeMarini Bustos -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: DXBFP in a 28 inch model. The Bustos will be a -13 bat making it a great option for a younger player who is still physically developing.
Cameron
Is a 32 inch -13 DeMarini Bustos a good bat for my 13 year old daughter? She weighs 119 lbs and is 5'5".
EDIE GAMBRELL
Since the 2017 DeMarini Bustos -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: DXBFP is a -13 this bat would be better suited for a younger player. For someone who is 13 we would recommend going with a -11 model if you feel the player can handle a 32 inch 21 ounce model. For someone of her height and weight we would recommend getting a 32 inch bat.
Cameron
Is this a full composite bat?
diane
No, the 2017 DeMarini Bustos -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat (DXBFP) is a hybrid bat that features Half & Half technology and an aluminum barrel.
Carter
My daughter is 10 years old and has played baseball for the past 4 years. She is 4'10" and weighs 105 lbs. She used a 29"/17 oz size last year for baseball. What bat within the softball DeMarini line-up would you suggest?
Susan
Based upon your player's height and weight, I would recommend getting a softball bat in the 31" length. Since she used that 29"/17 oz baseball bat in the past, I think she could handle the 31"/18 oz size of this 2017 DeMarini Bustos -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat (DXBFP) [especially if you feel that she has grown since last season]. However, if you feel more comfortable going with the 30"/17 oz size to keep her at the same weight as last year, that would be fine as well.
Ben
Is this legal to use in high school softball NY?
Saum
The 2017 DeMarini Bustos -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: DXBFP would be legal for high school play but at -13 length to weight ratio we would not recommend this bat as the durability would be questionable at best.
Cameron
Does the half and half technology on this bat allow you to use it in colder weather? Looking for a good bat to use in colder weather for when my daughter can't use her regular composite bat.
MA
Alloy barrels typically show better durability in the colder weather. A half and half bat like the 2017 DeMarini Bustos -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: DXBFP will have an alloy barrel that will help make this bat a better option in colder weather games.
Cameron
My daughter is 8 and has a Easton FS500 29". Her birthday is coming up and she has complained about hand sting, so I have thought about getting her this bat in a 30" so she can grow into it. Her league pitches at 35 mph and she has no problem hitting at 42 in a cage. Maybe the length and extra once will help her hit harder? Just want to know if that's a huge step or would help.
poeboy
I think adding only 1" to the length would be fine. You always want to swing the heaviest bat you can handle at a good bat speed for maximum power. It may be an adjustment at first, but it shouldn't take long to get used to it.
Kyle J.
Do you know what the actual weight of the 2017 Bustos 30/17 is (as opposed to the sticker weight)?
BrianTx01
The 2017 DeMarini Bustos -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: DXBFP is going to weigh approximately 1 ounce more than the listed weight.
Logan
We purchased the 31"18Oz for my 13 year old daughter for cmas. She is 5'2 and weighs 93 lbs...is this the correct size or should I have went with the 32"? She has not used the bat and I have original packaging but she did take the plastic off?
Pam
Based on her height and weight we would actually have recommended the 31"/18 ounce 2017 DeMarini Bustos -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat (DXBFP).
Carter
My daughter is 57" tall and weighs 73 lbs. What would y'all recommend?
John
Based on your player's height and weight, I would suggest a 32" 2017 DeMarini Bustos -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: DXBFP.
Logan
Is this bat still ok to use in fastpitch softball? I've seen a few comments that it doesn't hold up to 2018 standards and that is why it is discontinued. I don't want to purchase if my daughter can't use it.
Derek Benavidez
The 2017 DeMarini Bustos -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: DXBFP is approved for play in ASA, NSA, ISA, and ISF and features the 1.20 BPF certification. Unfortunately, we do not carry this bat anymore. I recommend getting approval from your local league before using this bat.
Dan
My daughter is 7 and weighs 68lbs at 4ft 2in. Last year she used a 29in drop 12. The DeMarini Bustos is lighter. Should I go with a longer bat to keep the weight, I worry about it being to long?
Shawn Brown
For your case, I would actually suggest avoiding the DeMarini Bustos -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: DXBFP because you do not want to ever go down in drop weight. I would suggest checking out the 2019 DeMarini Vendetta -12 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTDXVCF though.
Tyler
My daughter is 8 years old, been playing for 4 years. All star, stronger type player. She is 4'7'' and approximately 70 lbs. She has a Combat -14 28'' bat now. All the tables shows she should be swinging a 30'' bat? My 12 year old son just went to a 31''. Could this be true, that she get a 30'' bat? What do you suggest?
Chris Smith
Our charts would also suggest a 30" length for her height and weight, but charts can only get you close to the mark, they are only a tool to help in your search for the right product. There are other factors such as swing efficiency, strength, hand placement on the bat, etc that all play a part. I do think that a 28", 14 oz bat might be a bit small, and would suggest something a bit larger.
Kyle J.
My daughter is in 8U softball in GA. They are not allowed to use composite bats. Since this one only has a composite handle would it still be OK to use?
Joe
The DeMarini Bustos -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: DXBFP will not be legal, because the bat is made of composite material. You are going to want to go with a fully alloy model, something like the DeMarini Uprising -12 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTDXUPF19.
Max
So the Bustos has a composite handle and aluminum barrel making it a two piece? Still learning about these new bat options...
Deryk
Yes, the DeMarini Bustos -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: DXBFP offers a fiber reinforced composite handle which eliminates harsh feedback and sting in the hands, while featuring a DX1 alloy barrel for strength and performance in this two piece design.
Logan
Fast Pitch Softball bat for Granddaughter She is 10, 4 feet 8 inches and weighs 75. Looking at a hybrid bat to reduce some of the sting she complains about especially in the early season. (NP)
Tom Boro
Thanks for reaching out to us, Tom. Are you looking for a recommendation for a bat here or a general bat size? Please advise and we would be happy to assist you further.
Tyler
Which bat is better the 2019 or the 2017 DeMarini Bustos?
Brian Anderson
The DeMarini Bustos -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: DXBFP and the 2019 will be very similar as far as performance and feel, so I wouldn't say one is better than the other.
Tori
My daughter is 5'4" and weights 136. What size bat should I get?
sharon
We would probably suggest a 31" length for her height and weight.
Kyle J.
How come I can't pick a size for the bat? Is that because there is no other sizes left?
Candice
Unfortunately, the only size we have left in the DeMarini Bustos -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: DXBFP is a 30''
Tori
What year is the bat?
Scott Weatherington
The DeMarini Bustos -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: DXBFP will be a 2017 model.

About the Brand

In 1992, DeMarini Sports had something to celebrate. The three-year-old company had climbed a rung on the proverbial ladder of success, moving its world headquarters from a dirt-floored barn to a slightly larger metal shack. "It was a big move for us," recalled Ray DeMarini from the batting cage of DeMarini Sport’s present-day Bat Industrial Complex. "The new shop was larger, more storm resistant, and -best of all- it had a heater."

In the early days, DeMarini Sports hardly made a blip on the radar screen of softball. With no retailers and virtually no advertising budget, DeMarini grew steadily by selling high-performance bats directly to customers. While established companies made "juiced" bats for the pros and ordinary bats for the public, DeMarini focused on making one line of high-performance bats for pros and amateurs alike. This approach, combined with a passion for the sport, led to the greatest innovation in softball history - the world’s first multi-wall bat: the DeMarini Doublewall.

Released in 1993, the DeMarini Doublewall was the world’s first multi-wall bat. Like a modern golf driver or oversized tennis racket, the Doublewall had a giant "sweetspot," which allowed average players to hit like pros. DeMarini’s sales exploded, and before long opposing bat manufacturers to notice. DeMarini - a homegrown company led by a softball fanatic - had shaken the establishment silly.

To understand the rise of the DeMarini Dynasty, you need to know Ray DeMarini. A cult hero among avid players, Ray DeMarini emerged on the professional softball scene at the age of 40, a veritable geriatric among younger players. With a scientific approach to training, a batting speed of 96 miles-per-hour and a bombastic attitude, DeMarini fast earned a reputation as a savage competitor.

In June of 1987, ESPN launched a nationwide search for a hardcore player to advise on a series of instructional softball videos. When approached by producer Erich Lytle, the biggest boys in softball repeatedly spoke of a five-foot-seven softball giant—Ray DeMarini. DeMarini had mastered reflex hitting, a technique that drops the ball squarely between the infield and outfield. Impressed with DeMarini's knowledge and scientific approach to training, Lytle not only hired Ray as an advisor—he hired him as the host. Together, they produced Ray DeMarini's Reflex Hitting System, ESPN's most successful home video to date.

Having garnered national recognition through ESPN, Ray turned his efforts toward designing a high-performance bat for the masses. To accomplish this, he needed an engineer. "Not just an engineer," he said, "but a boot-strapping rocket scientist who could build an empire with pocket change." Ray's call was answered by Mike Eggiman. Having grown up on a farm, Eggiman was adept at making the most of a situation. Case in point: the company's first piece of automated bat-making equipment had the heart of an abandoned washing machine.

With Eggiman as Chief Engineer, DeMarini Sports delivered a series of industry firsts: the first multi-wall bat (Doublewall Distance), the first high-performance bat for massive players (Fatboy) and the first high-performance youth bat (Black Coyote).

In 2000, DeMarini joined forces with Wilson Sporting Goods to develop the next generation of hitting technology. Ray believed it was a perfect fit, as both companies shared a vision of developing game-enhancing equipment for avid players. What’s more, the companies had complimentary products: Wilson was the leader in gloves, balls and protective gear, while DeMarini made the world’s finest bats. According to Chris Considine, Vice President/General Manager of Wilson Sporting Goods: "The thing that struck me most about DeMarini was their passion for sports and their true competitiveness.

Within a year, DeMarini unveiled the industry’s first concept bat, the $35,000 F1. Secured under lock and key at the DeMarini Bat Industrial Complex in Hillsboro, Oregon, the F1 served as a technological storehouse for future products, including DeMarini’s landmark Half & Half system.

In December 2001, 12 years after the genesis of DeMarini Sports, Ray DeMarini died of cancer in his Northwest Portland home. He was 55. The next summer, the Portland Metro Softball Association paid homage to the “King of Softball” with the dedication of Ray DeMarini Field. Formerly known as Delta #1, the field was DeMarini’s favorite place to test bats during the early days of business. Ray DeMarini—bat maker and player extraordinaire—was remembered for his high-performance softball bats and unwavering encouragement of everyday players. Today, a 40-foot sign announcing RAY DEMARINI FIELD graces the outfield, and an interpretive display chronicling Ray’s life greets players as they register for games.

More "Insane Dedication to Performance" is in store for tomorrow.

PXT X19 is a defective bat - Do not but Tony Hughes Parent

Pros: When there isn't something loose in the barrel it is a nice bat.

Cons: Flaw in the design of the bat. I bought my bat in August of 2018 in October 2018 something was rattling in the barrel of the bat something had broken loose. Sent in and Louisville replace bat at the end of October 2018. February 2019 the second bat has the exact same issue. Do not throw away $400 on this bat.

Cons: I bought this bat in the end of July by November I was contacting Louisville Slugger to warranty the bag because it was rattling bad. They covered it no questions asked. Pros: Graphics are nice

Cons: Spent a lot of money on this bat and it broke in the first game-1st at bat. Submitted a warranty claim-received one-time replacement bat. Maybe just maybe this bat will last longer than one game. Very disappointed in this product-have used Louisville Slugger bats for years. Durability rating should be minus 5 stars!!! DO NOT BUY THIS BAT Matt Parent

Pros: NONE BAT IS NO GOOD

Cons: Bought this bat because my daughter wouldn't use her Mizuno Power Carbon 2. She said it wasn't a Louisville Slugger. That's how bad she is brainwashed by these softball coaches that think they are Gods and know everything about softball. Political BS. Any way didn't even own this bat a month and it's broke. $400 wasted. I donated the Mizuno to another school. Now I'm trying to have Louisville send a different bat. I do not want another one of these.

Pros: Great pop. Home run bat. Slightly more end load than that of the LXT. Excellent bat!

Cons: Have heard of breaking but ours is holding up just fine.

Great Bat with lots of Pop Sandra Player

Pros: Not sure what the others here are swinging, but I am a power hitter that crushes the ball with the PXT. I have seen on hittrax that I can hit further with this bat over LXT and Xeno. I guess everyone likes something different, but this bat launches the ball.

Cons: none.

Amazing Ashley Parent

Pros: My daughter has used this bat for 3 games and 2 practices. She’s a super strong heavy hitter and this bat has preformed exceptionally. Everyone has asked where she got it and the brand. She’s 11 and she’s cramming it to the fence with almost every hit!

Cons: None. So far amazing bat!!

6 Months in and still Mashing Coach Pete Coach

Pros: No issues with our PXT as of yet. Fingers crossed it holds up, because this is one of the hottest bats our team has swung. The power hitting girls absolutely love it and they won't swing anything else.

Cons: none so far

They know they have a problem John Meyers Parent

Pros: Good looking and the ball flies off the bat. No doubt about it, this is a hot bat.

Cons: My daughter broke 2 of these. When I called, the rep said you can't use it under 60 degrees. We were in Florida at the end of March. The second one broke indoors before it was broke in and saw a game. Also, the umps know it. After they took 2 of them out of play before a game I later ask them and they said, "we look for them and shake them good". Enough said, when the bat was legal it was lethal, but buyer beware.

Great Pop. Poor Durability. Jess Parent

Pros: Tried Louisville since daughter's Demarini CF 6 was getting too short and too light. Very strong 13u player Ok pop out of the wrapper. Great pop once broke in but still didn't feel like it had as much pop as her CF6 (This could be because she was getting used to an end loaded bat vs. Balanced bat but has hit 11 out with demarini over spring and fall and was only hitting solid mid outfield with this bat) Grip was nice. No sting when hitting off the handle or end.

Cons: Should have listened to the reviews about breaking. Bought this bat in July 2019. Worked off a tee and off a pitcher at batting practice throughout summer and fall. Used a couple times at tournaments this fall but still felt her Demarini was hitting harder so continued to work in practice with this bat to learn the feel and sweet spot. Finally felt like it was broke in and was hitting hard at indoor BP and it broke last night. (November 2019) Just submitted it to warrant so I can't give any reviews on how well or quick warranty process is.

How does this bat compare to the 2019 Louisville Slugger LXT bat for a 12 yr old?
Mom of 2
The 2019 Louisville Slugger PXT -10 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTLFPPX19A10 will be a more end loaded feel compared to the 2019 Louisville Slugger LXT's, which means the bat will feel heavier towards the end or cap of the bat. Typically an end loaded swing weight works well for stronger more mature players that can handle the heavier end load and the LXT works really well for younger players.

How does this compare to the 2019 CF Zen softball bat? Looking for new bat for 12yr old travel 12U team player. Currently uses the Xeno -10.
Mom of 2
The 2019 Louisville Slugger PXT -10 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTLFPPX19A10 is intended to be used by a larger, power hitting player because of the power-loaded swing weight. I would check out the Louisville Slugger LXT line for your player.

What is the difference between the 2018 and 2019 models?
Joseph Andersen
The 2019 Louisville Slugger PXT -10 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTLFPPX19A10 features the new Mass FX loaded sweet spot technology which the 2018 model did not have.

Is this bat well suited for a lefty slapper who is called upon for a variety of situations from bunts to slaps to long drives into the OF?
John
The Louisville Slugger PXT -10 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTLFPPX19A10 would not be the best option for a slapper type hitter from LS. A better option would be the Louisville Slugger LXT -10 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTLFPLX19A10.

My daughter is 5'7" and 130 pounds as a 14U player. She currently uses an LXT -11 and I am looking at a new bat for her. The extra weight and being end loaded should be a nice progression in her swing as she has gotten stronger. Does this sound about right to you guys?
Rob
Yes, I think it makes sense to move her up to a -10 since she has gotten stronger. The Louisville Slugger PXT -10 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTLFPPX19A10 won't be as balanced as the LXT but can definitely still be effective for her if she is more of a power hitter. The extra weight can help to generate more power behind the ball.

Can you use this bat in the batting cages on the pitching machine?
Jaden
We suggest the Louisville Slugger PXT -10 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTLFPPX19A10 be used with only regulated softball balls. Many times batting cages will use weighted dimple balls, we would suggest refraining from using this or any bat with those balls.

Does this bat help your swing get around faster?
Lauren Fulcher
The Louisville Slugger PXT -10 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTLFPPX19A10 features an end loaded swing weight. This is not recommended for players looking to develop a faster swing speed. This option is great for power hitters with the physical strength to manage the weight distribution. A player looking to work on faster swing speed, the balanced Louisville Slugger LXT -10 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTLFPLX19A10 would be an option to consider.

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
