Pros:  I'm so glad they brought back the MAXUM. I was worried I wouldn't be able to get another one after I heard COMBAT went under. The sweet spot on this bat is HUMONGOUS. Seriously, it's like Everest.

Cons:  I do feel a bit of sting but that's pretty typical with a 1 piece bat.

Pros:  My 13 year old son has found the balance of the bat is perfect and the pop right out of the package is great. Continue to keep the Combat line around as long as possible.

Cons:  Haven't used long enough to have a con.

Pros:  Bat has really good pop. Son used the Combat Maxum as a 14Uthis past year and loved it. He had lots of homers with this bat. As a 15U using the Combat Maxum BBCOR this fall. It has lots of pop and a large sweet spot.

Cons:  Sound of bat.

Pros:  Great pop right out of the box. Grandson ( 14 years old) hit a few balls 300 ft. the first time with this bat. I would say it has a lot of pop, and should get better in time. Not a bad price for what you are getting.

Cons:  Non at this time.

Pros:  I am a HS Senior (2018) I am committed to a well known D1 College for baseball. I have had the opportunity to swing ALL of the "popular" bats. (Used LS Primes). I used the Combat Maxum 1/2 way thru summer season down at PG Events. I am telling you to run & get this bat. EXPLOSIVE OFF THE BAT !! The 1 pc construction bat lets power go right to the ball. LS is good bat, but Combat bat seriously made the ball jump.

Cons:  Stinging!! The bat will teach you to square it up. If not, ouch. When you square it up, the ball flys effortlessly and it just feels good. LS Prime is forgiving on Miss hits, but I feel you trade off power for the anti vibration.

Pros:  This bat has a lot of pop...great feel and sound (not that 'ting' sounds but something more solid). Some folks on here reviewed it has having some vibration if miss hit...but my 15 year old reports no sting. This is quite a find for the price.

Cons:  Nothing at this point...had it now for 2 weeks but a lot of use.

Pros:  huge barrel, no deadspots, great pop. My son was using a 2018 Demarini CS ZEN. He is now driving the ball father with his 2018 Combat Maxum. My son did his research and said he's glad he chose his Maxum and I didn't have to spend $400. - $450.

Pros:  This bat has a giant sweet spot which allows you to easily get the ball on the barrel. Also, it has a very balanced feel which I love. I got the 30” 27oz bat and I love it. Really love the conposite design, and I highly recomend it.

Cons:  Little sting when you hit it on the end of the bat or on the handle, but thats common with a one piece bat

Pros:  Like the 31/32" composite handle and the sound of the metal barrel. Fast bat; although advertised as a balanced bat there is a slight end load making it a good choice to make the transition to BBCOR. Hitting farther then ever before. Extended barrel compares to the more expensive composites thanks to the internal core technology. The bat has POP....but at a competitive price.

Cons:  White tap handle will show

Pros:  Got this bat for playing in High School, best perchase Ive made. Large sweetspot, absolutely no vibration, and pop is fantastic.

Cons:  Grip wears down after a few uses. (I replaced it with LizardSkin after noticing this), and if not hit in barrel, ball will not go more than a foot due to 100% of the material is located in the barrel

Pros:  Great pop off this bat. The first twenty hits of the season were remarkably better distance. Good line drives too. It's heavier by an ounce, and my son (14 yo) is also bigger, taller stronger, etc., but I still feel that this bat is an all around good pick. For 89.00 this bat is a steal over other bats of similar quality.

Cons:  Your son has to fit into the lengths available, which are only 33 & 34. I have no idea about the durability, as I just bought it, but it seems nicely constructed.

High school baseball is played in the cold weather of Feb. How will this bat hold up in 32 to 50 degree weather?

It is hard to say whether the 2018 COMBAT MAXUM BBCOR Baseball Bat: AB8MX103 would hold up well in colder weather since this bat is fully composite. Generally speaking, the colder the weather the greater likelihood a bat can break down at a faster rate. If just using this bat for colder games you should be okay, assuming the entire season is not being played at these listed temperatures.

The 2018 COMBAT MAXUM BBCOR Baseball Bat: AB8MX103 does feature the BBCOR .50 marking and features a 2 5/8" barrel, so it would be legal according to those rules.

Is this USA certified?

The 2018 COMBAT MAXUM BBCOR Baseball Bat: AB8MX103, like all other BBCOR bats, will not come with the USA stamp as they held to a different certification for older players (high school and NCAA.) The performance threshold is very similar to the USA requirements though, and quite a few of the USA leagues allow for players to use a BBCOR bat.

Is there a temperature that this bat should not be used under?

We recommend limiting use of any bat at temperatures below 55 degrees. When the temperature sinks below 55 degrees, the ball becomes denser and has the ability to damage the barrel walls of the bat. If a player is participating in a practice that is being held in conditions with a temperature below 55 degrees, we would recommend using an older model bat that will no longer be used for games or even a wooden bat. If a game is being held in conditions below 55 degrees we would recommend taking BP with a non-game model bat (or wooden model) and then only using the 2018 COMBAT MAXUM BBCOR Baseball Bat (AB8MX103) in the actual game.

Does this red synthetic grip suppose to be better than 2017 lizard skin from last year. Any reason why they did this?

I wouldn't say that one grip is better than another. However, my best guess is that the new synthetic grip on the 2018 COMBAT MAXUM BBCOR Baseball Bat: AB8MX103 helps reduce vibration more than the lizard skin. I recommend reaching out to Combat if you want more information on why they changed the grip.

Next year in PA high school baseball they want everyone using -5. Do you have this bat in a 31 inch -5?

For high school play, one has to use a -3 BBCOR regardless of the state the player is in. The 2018 COMBAT MAXUM BBCOR Baseball Bat: AB8MX103 would qualify as a legal bat then for all high school and college players.

How does this Combat compare in balance swing weight compared to the 2017 Mizuno Maxcor and 2015 Easton Mako. Are two piece 2015 Mako bats for contact hitters?

All three of these bats are considered to have balanced swing weights a should provide good swing speeds. Generally two-piece bats are better suited for contact hitters since they flex more during the swing and provide better vibration dampening on mishits.

How does the balance of the COMBAT MAXUM BBCOR compare to the Louisville Slugger Solo?

Both the 2018 COMBAT MAXUM BBCOR Baseball Bat: AB8MX103 and the LS Solo 618 are one-piece balanced bats. With that said, the overall balance of the 2018 COMBAT MAXUM BBCOR Baseball Bat: AB8MX103 will carry a slight edge of the LS Solo 618.

What bat has a bigger sweet spot, the Easton Beast X Speed or the Combat Maxum? And which one is better for power?

I believe the 2018 Combat Maxum BBCOR (AB8MX103) will have a slightly larger sweet spot than the 2018 Easton Beast X Speed. Both bats are similarly designed for power however, since both will have a one-piece design.

Kyle J. Expert

Does the Combat have the same size barrel as the Beast X Speed? And is the barrel length the same?

All BBCOR bats will have a 2 5/8" barrel diameter, so yes they are the same size. The barrel length is fairly close on each model, but I would probably give a slight edge to the 2018 Combat Maxum.

How does this bat compare to the Easton Beast X Speed? Are there any major differences?

Comparing the 2018 COMBAT MAXUM BBCOR Baseball Bat: AB8MX103 to the Easton Beast X Speed would be like comparing apples to oranges. The 2018 COMBAT MAXUM BBCOR Baseball Bat: AB8MX103 is a one-piece composite bat with a balanced swing weight while the Easton Beast X Speed is a one-piece alloy model with a balanced swing weight. My son is 15 and making the transition to high school ball. Given his height at 5'8" and weight of 130 lbs, what would you recommend for length in the MAXUM?

Based on your player's height and weight, I would recommend the 2018 COMBAT MAXUM BBCOR Baseball Bat (AB8MX103) in either the 31"/28 oz or 32"/29 oz size. He would likely be more comfortable with the 31" size this season but if you were hoping to get a bat with a little room for your player to grow, I would recommend the 32".

What would be done if the bat were to break within the 1 year warranty and there were no replacements available due to Combat basically being out of business?

Easton and Combat were owned by the same parent company so, if this 2018 COMBAT MAXUM BBCOR Baseball Bat (AB8MX103) were to break within 1 year of your purchase, Easton would handle the warranty process. If they can't replace this exact bat, they would provide an Easton bat as similar to the Combat Maxum as possible.

Taylor Expert
144565 Click to show/hide answer

Which is better for a contact hitter this bat or the MAKO Beast in your opinion?

I would probably say the Mako Beast as it is a two-piece design that is generally preferred a little more by contact hitters. The two-piece design allows the bat to flex and bend slightly more during the swing, providing a little more whip and making it easier to get the bat head through the zone.

I would like to know what's the difference between this year and the 2017 BBCOR model? Also do all BBCOR bats come in a big barrel? I was hoping to keep a 2 1/4 barrel size.

Essentially the only difference between the 2018 COMBAT MAXUM BBCOR Baseball Bat: AB8MX103 and 2017 model would be the cosmetic design. As for BBCOR bats, they are all 2 5/8" barrel diameters with -3 length to weight ratios. As for the 2 1/4" barrel diameters, these bats are slowly being phased out.
