Pros:  Well balanced bat. Easy to get around against fast pitching. My son is extremely happy with the feel and pop that it has. Other boys on the team like to use it also. Very durable. Would highly recommend this bat.

Pros:  This bat is extremely well balanced and has great pop. I've had this bat for about a month now and it still feels brand new, the only issue I have is the grip, it's rough on the hands/batting gloves (at least in my experience) and it tore on me after a couple weeks of use. A lizard skin would be a good quick fix to this nearly perfect bat.

Cons:  The grip wore out and tore on my model.

Pros:  My son had to jump to a BBCOR for next spring. Did some research and asked some other coaches. The Velo was highly recommended. Nice surprise; Well balanced, swing and hitting power! Not as traditionally dead for most BBCOR bats.

Cons:  Very loud when hitting a baseball

Pros:  I hit the Rawlings VELO and the Slugger 617 at a demo since both are composite end cap models. Both felt similar when swinging, but the two main differences I noticed was the great pop of the VELO and a much louder ping.

Pros:  This bat has a great feel/pop to it. Ive put this bat to work in for many weeks of games/batting practice and i haven't had to put any lizard skin on it. The pop should probably be illegal for games. and I've only seen minor scratches on mine.

Cons:  None

Pros:  In my opinion, Rawlings bats in general are amazing. I have swung countless 5150's and Velo's and frm i understand the Trio's are great as well. This bat is a step above the others though. The ball flies off the bat and the carry is unrivaled. Whole team uses it, 5 bombs in 2 games and absolube missles in bp. The feel is the best of any bat I have ever felt too. Its not extremely top heavy as to where smaller guys cant control it and get it around but its not so balanced that the ball dosent carry. There is also great feedback when you strike the ball. When you square it up, the feel is unmatched. As with most alloy bats, when the ball is mis-hit, its not pleasent but that also teaches you to hit. Lastly, the burability is rediculous. My 5150 had been taking 150-200 cuts everyday for the better part of a year now and it just keeps getting hotter. Never had it break or chil. Simply put, YOU CAN NOT GO WRONG WITH THIS BAT BECAUSE IT IS WORTH EVERY DIME.

Cons:  Not a thing.

Pros:  This bat has successfully lived up to its older brother (the 2016 velo). Third day of hitting, I hit a 412 foot homerun with a 103 exit velo. Light enough to swimg fast, but heavy enough to have power behind your swing. Very balanced.

Cons:  None.

Pros:  See those 450 dollar composites? They should be ashamed selling those bats 150 dollars more than the velo. You can't get better than this. Great sweet spot size, amazing sound and pop, best balance, and this acoustic alloy really takes away all vibration. I've hit 70 mph pitches of the composite endcap with no sting. Trust me, I've done it tons cuz I suck. JK. This bat has top notch balance put up with the CF8(450 bucks) and I've swung both. Beats the Mako beast(450 bucks) in balance any day. The composite endcap does wonders for the balance. Overview: LOUD, light swinging bat with tons of pop with no vibration. If you can't take an end load and appreciate a balanced aluminum, this is for you! GET IT!!!!!

Cons:  Nothing!!!!!!!!

Pros:  This bat has a very light swing weight, and can be used for contact as well as power hitters. The grip is on the thicker side but it is very comfortable. I love the sound and feel of the sweet spot, and the pop is great. Never did I think the sweet spot was small.

Cons:  -Scratches easily (cosmetic) that's about it. If you're looking for faster swing speeds and want an aluminum stick, consider this bad boy. -Typical vibration like any other one piece bat, but I don't mind it because it helps me adjust for the next at bat.

Pros:  Bat was hot right out the box. Great Feel, balanced swing. I came across this bat by chance. The end cap came off of my old reliable and no one had a bat like mine so I used a teammates Velo. I wasn't sure how I would like a balanced bat being a power hitter but I quickly feel in love with the feel and pop of the Velo. After a few tournaments I bought my own.

Cons:  None that I have found so far

Pros:  Bought this bat for my son for the new baseball season. He is 6'3" 240lb junior in high school with interests from several D1 schools. He loves this bat. Extremely light with a stiff handle allows him to hit 90mph pitches with speed and power while also allowing that quick swing when waiting on that curve. A+++ on this bat

Alot of pop, sounds great, my son is 14 and swings a 32/29 for his high school team. we have mostly used Demarni composite bats which dont do well in cooler temps. we made the switch to this bat and as long as they keep producing this one we will never go back! love everything about this bat. we have not Experienced any issues with the wrap coming off yet like some other post have mentioned. Pros:  The bat has been so reliable, every time I pick it up, I know it is going to be a bad day for the pitcher. Great pop, amazing grip, had this for 2 years now and it still feels amazing to swing. Very balanced and the sound off the bat scares everyone who is not paying attention.

Cons:  NOTHING, if we are getting picky, do not hit off the end because it will sting.

If this bat was left in the garage for the winter does it hurt it at all especially since it was a brutal winter for cold? The ball doesn't seem to be popping off of it like it did last summer but then again the weather has been extremely cold here in Iowa this spring.

Although leaving the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V in the garage over the winter is not ideal, we would recommend leaving in a closet, this will not affect the bat assuming that when the bat is finally used the weather has warmed up. If leaving this bat in a cold garage and then taking it outside to use in cold weather then there will most likely be issues with both performance and durability. Before using in colder temperatures after leaving it in the garage all winter we would recommend warming the bat up.

What's the difference between the Solo 617 and the Rawlings Velo?

There isn't much difference between the two bats, as both are one-piece, all alloy designs and both have a composite end cap to help with balance. The only main difference is the ping of the Rawlings VELO might be a bit louder than the Solo 617.

I purchased this bat for my son and we live in upstate New York. So far we haven't had a spring, been very cold temps with the weather around 40 degrees. If he uses this bat in those cold temps will it damage it?

There are no studies or recommendations that state bats cannot be used in specific temperatures, although we here at JustBats generally recommend 45-50 degrees as the cutoff to where you would want to use a practice bat if you could. Colder temperatures make the ball itself more dense, and that can be what puts more stress on the bat.

What bat do you recommend the 5150 or this bat for a 6 foot 185 pound person?

Both the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V and the Rawlings 5150 would work well for a player needing a BBCOR bat. For someone of your height and weight, a 33 inch model would work best. With the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V one will typically find a more balanced bat thanks in part to the composite end cap.

Based upon your player's height, weight and what he has swung in the past; I would recommend going with a BBCOR bat in in the 32"/29 oz size. Both bats are excellent options, however, this 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB7V) will probably be the most balanced bat available on the market. For a player that is moving into BBCOR bats, a VELO would be highly recommended.

I am 5'10" 130 pounds. What size bat should I use? Also, what is a better overall bat (not including price) this or the CAT 7?

Based on your height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V in a 32 inch model. This bat is similar to the Marucci CAT 7 as both bats are one-piece alloy models featuring balanced swing weights. The VELO will feature a composite end cap which tends to give this bat more balance overall. If you compare the reviews of both bats you will see that consumers hold both in high regard and thus selecting either one would give both excellent performance as well as durability.

Besides the price tag, what are the differences between the Rawlings Velo and the Rawlings 5150? I'm very torn between the two, and I am wondering which one you think is the better bat.

The 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V is a more well balanced bat than the 5150, and features a more durable, more responsive alloy than that of the 5150. With the 2017 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB75 being slightly more end loaded, some stronger, more powerful hitters like the weight distribution of that bat over the Velo.

As well, there are certainly players that will prefer to get this 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB7V) over the CAT 7. The 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V is a one-piece fully alloy bat with a balanced swing weight. This bat is a great bat for all types of hitters of all ages as the composite end cap leads to a very balanced swing weight feel. Typically, for a player who is of your player's height and weight a 33 inch BBCOR would be recommended but one will want to take into consideration age as well as weight of their current bat. With that being said, a 31 inch BBCOR would be a better fit. Of course one can always go to a 32 or 33 inch bat if the player can handle the increased weight without slowing down their bat speed.

Theoretically, the more mass you can put behind the ball the further it could travel, so an end loaded bat could have more of an advantage in that regard. However, it really depends on what the player is most comfortable with. My son is 15 and I have noticed that his swing is much better with his ash wood Rawlings VELO than with any of the composite bats he owns. He has much more control and his batting avg. is better with the wood bat as well. His swing seems to deteriorate over time when swinging a composite bat. My thought is that maybe he needs the continuous feel and feedback the wood provides. I want to find him a bat that he can use in high school that is going to swing like wood. I've heard that the 2017 Rawlings VELO and LS Solo 617 could possibly be the answer. I would love your opinion on the matter. Also, if you have any other suggestions for a non-wood bat that swings like wood.

There are many great BBCOR bats on the market that will offer a one-piece design with a balanced swing weight. There are some bats on the market that actually weigh more than what the bat is listed at and this could be what is causing the issue as wood bats are typically within 2 to 3 ounces of the length of the bat. With that being said, both the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V and the LS Solo 617 are excellent one-piece, fully alloy bats with balanced swing weights. What most customers tend to like about the VELO is how well balanced the bat is. Do you have any thoughts about a how a 32” end-loaded bat might feel compared to a 32.5” balanced VELO? Would it be worth adding the extra half inch or would that negate any gains in bat speed?

An end-loaded bat will certainly have a different swing weight feel to it when compared to a one-piece alloy bat featuring a balanced swing weight like the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V. Whether or not to swing and end-loaded bat or a balanced bat comes down to ones personal preference and what feels better. When considering whether or not to go with a half inch size, from example 33.5"/30.5 ounces, would consider how well your current plate coverage is and how much bat speed you can generate with a 33/30. The half ounce should not considerable affect bat speed and the additional weight will have a marginal affect on power. If anything, a half inch size allows a player to slightly choke up on the bat; that is where the advantage can be.

What's the difference between the 2017 model and 2016 model? Also, my son is a freshman in high school. What size BBCOR bat will be good for him? He's 5'8" and 130 pounds.

Based on your son's height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V in a 31 or 32 inch model depending on current strength of the player. As for the difference(s) between the 2016 and 2017 models of the VELO, the grip tape is much thicker on the 2017 model to help reduce vibration from off centered hits and the colorway has been changed.

Which Rawlings model would feel most similar to the Trio model?

There aren't any Rawlings models currently out that are quite like the 2016 Rawlings TRIO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRT3. That bat is extremely balanced, as is the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V. The Velo is a one-piece alloy composite, so the 2017 Rawlings Quatro BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7Q4 may be a bit more comparable to the Trio.

I am 5'10" and weigh 150 lbs. What size bat would you recommend for me? Also, what is the main difference between the Rawlings Velo and the 5150?

For your height and weight, we recommend a 32" 29 oz. BBCOR bat. The 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V features an acoustic alloy that will have a slightly louder "ping" noise than the 2017 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB75. The Velo also has a fiber reinforced composite end cap to help improve balance.

I would like to know the actual weight of the bat in the 31/28 version. I know what the label says but I would like the actual weight.

The weight of the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V is about 1.5 ounces heavier than the listed weight after accounting for grip tape, etc.

I am 6'4" and 205 lbs. Would you recommend the 2017 Velo or the 2017 Mako Beast?

For your height and weight, we recommend using a 34" 31 oz. bat. The 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V and the 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB17MK are both high performing bats with a balanced swing weight. Deciding between the two will be dependent on your personal preference of material and construction. The Velo has a one-piece, fully alloy design and the MAKO BEAST is a two-piece, fully composite model.

What's the difference between the normal Velo and the Velo Hybrid?

This 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB7V) will be the same as the "Velo Hybrid" that is advertised on some websites. The reason that another website would call the bat a "hybrid" is probably due to the bat featuring multiple types of materials. This bat has an alloy handle and barrel, but the end-cap of the bat is made of composite material.

I made my high school team for baseball and I need a very reliable bat. I was looking into the Easton Z-CORE White Out the 2017 or 2015 Rawlings VELO or the Louisville Slugger Prime. Which one is the best rated?

All three of those bat are very good bats and have been well received. Whether someone liked one over the other would be a lot of personal preference. The 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB7V) has been one of the most popular bats for years now.

Both the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB7V) and the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 BBCOR Baseball Bat (MCBC7) are going to be very similar bats. Both are going to be one piece aluminum bats. Based upon your height and weight, my general recommendation would be to get this 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB7V) in the 31" length. As long as you feel that you can handle the 28 oz weight of the 31" option of this Velo, I would recommend that size option of this bat.

My son has the 2015 VELO and loves it. He tried the 2016 VELO and still prefers the 2015. He said it felt lighter and better balanced. How does this 2017 compare to the 2015 model?

The pOp 2.0 technology of the 2017 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V allows for an increase in flex and pop compared to the 2015 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRVB. Both models have a low MOI and an extremely well balanced swing weight. The 2016 model also features pOp 2.0 technology so the 2017 model is more similar to the 2016 model than the 2015 model.

I've had Rawlings' bats since I've moved to BBCOR and I love them. But what would you recommend: the 2017 VELO or the 2016 VELO?

I would recommend this 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB7V) over the 2016 VELO as this 2017 bat has received a couple of upgrades when compared to the 2016 model. This 2017 VELO has a Silver Comp Lite End Cap that helps make the bat even more balanced in its feel. As well, this bat features Precision Laser pOp 2.0 technology that increases the flex and performance off the bat. Because of those upgrades, I would recommend this 2017 VELO over the 2016 VELO.

Description for 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V
New for 2017! The Rawlings VELO has earned a reputation for being one of the lightest and fastest swinging baseball bats on the market from year to year and the newest version completely backs it up. Never in the history of baseball have more pitchers touched 90+ mph so hitters have less time to react at the dish, and there's no time for error. If the game is evolving to become this fast, then shouldn't your bat be? Thanks to the VELO's Silver Comp Lite composite end cap that is fiber reinforced, unnecessary weight is removed from the end of the barrel, shifting the MOI towards the player's hands. If your increased swing speed or the awesome cosmetics don't turn heads at the ball field, the enhanced pop and resonating ping from the acoustic alloy surely will. Rawlings' acoustic alloy enhances the durability and is the loudest alloy on the market - the proof is in the ping! Not only does this VELO offer the loudest ping in the industry, but the precision laser pOp 2.0 creates a lasered groove through the sweet spot that increases flexibility and the trampoline effect. Extreme balance, an explosive swing speed, and massive pop are the three things that make up the winning combination the VELO offers. Rawlings: The Mark of a Pro!

This 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V features a -3 length to weight ratio, a 2 5/8 inch barrel diameter, and is BBCOR Certified for high school and collegiate play. The one-piece alloy construction is offered in 1/2 inch sizes and is backed by a full twelve (12) month manufacturer's warranty. Purchase your VELO today with fast, free shipping!
