* Click on each bat in the bat pack to get individual features for that bat
Pros: Cheap AKA worthless
Cons: Spend a few $$$ more and ge ta serviceable bat! terrible bat!
Pros: End loaded swing weight for those that are comfortable with the -8 drop.
Cons: -8 drop may be heavy for some.
Pros: Decent price.
Cons: My son has only had this bat for a couple of months and the top cap piece is broken. My son is on his last year of little league before entering high school and needed something that would get him through the season. Disappointed that the bat didn't last.
Cons: small sweet spot, hard to hit with
Pros: My son hit the ball well with this bat
Cons: after a month of having this bat he cracked the barrel
Pros: good feel
Cons: not durable. My son and another player on his team have this same bat and both have a dent mid-way down the barrel causing an angle. Nothing hit except for baseballs. Occurred 1-2months into season. Two different coaches told us to try and return. In process now.
Pros: a bat rep held a demo at our local little league complex. he brought Rawlings, Demarini, Easton. Prior to the demo, I had already settled on a new Ghost X -10 for my 11 yr old who will be 12 in 2018 LL season. He hit with all of them, he preferred the Rawlings Velo -5. Most everyone in our area is all Easton. We have had 5 different Mako's and loved them all but he said the Rawlings felt the best, so that's what I got. As far as lack of pop, he was still able to drive the ball 200 ft, same as he could with the Easton 32/20 mako that he has now. This bat makes a huge "ping". Reminds you of the good old days before composites.
Cons: None so far, bat was demo'd only.

My grandson is 5'4" tall and weighs 135 lbs, and a strong young boy. Is this 31", -8 bat the right choice?
Yes, this 31" model could certainly work for his height and weight if you need a USA certified bat for Little League.
My grandson is 10 and he weighs 135lbs, do you think this 31" is the correct size bat for him?
Given your player's specifications, I would recommend either the 30" or 31" option for this 2018 Easton S450 -8 USA Baseball Bat: YBB18S4508. Keep in mind that this is a -8 bat and will be heavier than what most 10 year olds tend to swing.
What bat do you recommend for a 9 year old that is 115lbs and 4'11"?
I would recommend a 30" bat. I do believe the -8 drop weight of this 2018 Easton S450 -8 USA Baseball Bat: YBB18S4508 would be too much for most 9 year olds to handle. Instead, I would recommend checking out the 2018 Easton Beast X -10 USA Baseball Bat: YBB18BX10.
What is the weight -8 or 23 oz?
The 2018 Easton S450 -8 USA Baseball Bat: YBB18S4508 features a -8 length to weight ratio. This means that is 30 inches in length will have a listed weight of 22 ounces. This bat will have a true weight of 1.6 ounces heavier than listed weight.
My boy used a 30" Easton Flying Tiger Aluminum Bat last year. This year, with the new little league rules, we need to get a new bat. He is 5 ft 4 inches tall, weighs 135 lbs, and will be 11 at the end of March. According to the size chart, he should be in a 32 inch bat, but that seems like too much stick for him. Looking for a solid recommendation on size for him.
I would probably recommend a 31" length of bat if 32" feels like a lot. The size charts and recommendations are mostly meant to get people in the ballpark of what size they should use, and should not be take as exact guidelines, as they are always other factors besides height and weight that play into what length someone should use. Other examples are how far they stand from the plate, if they ever choke up, strength, swing efficiency, etc.
I have a 12 year old that only weighs 81 lbs and is right at 5’ tall. I am trying to see if the 30†22 oz would be the way to go with him.
For a player of your son's height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2018 Easton S450 -8 USA Baseball Bat: YBB18S4508 in a 30/22 model assuming you feel he can handle the weight of the bat. This would be predicated more on the current bat he is using from a weight standpoint and how well he is handling it.
I have this bat in a 28"/20 oz. I have two 9 year olds. One weighs 93 lbs and the other 75 lbs, both 54 inches tall. Is this a good bat for them?
At the 28"/20 oz size, your model of this 2018 Easton S450 -8 USA Baseball Bat (YBB18S4508) might be a little short for both players. For the lighter weight player, our bat coach recommends a 29" bat. For the heavier player, we recommend a 30" bat. If you wanted a bat that will work for the two of them, you might look to a bat in the 30"/20 oz weight. The bat might be a little longer for your lighter-weight son, but I think that size of bat would present the best option to satisfy both players' needs.
Is this bat legal for little league 2018?
Yes, this bat carries the USA Baseball stamp that will be required for 2018 Little League.
Do you think this bat will be too heavy for an 8 year old? He is a big kid, about 4' and 75 pounds and can hit good.
The 2018 Easton S450 -8 USA Baseball Bat: YBB18S4508 is better designed for a player between 12-13 years of age. For an 8 year old player, we would recommend looking more at a -10 length to weight ratio bat or possibly lighter if need be. Some options would include: 2018 Easton S250 -10 USA Youth Baseball Bat: YSB18S250, 2018 Easton S350 -11 USA Youth Baseball Bat: YSB18S350 and the 2018 Easton Beast X -10 USA Baseball Bat: YBB18BX10.

What is different between the Rawlings VELO and Rawlings 5150?
The main difference is the Comp-Lite end cap that improves the balance of the bat for better swing speed.
My son is turning 13yo in May. He will be playing up in Juniors this year but playing on a U12 tournament team. He's about 5' and 105lbs. Last year he used an Easton 31" -13 in league games but used a 31" -11 2 5/8 in tournaments. He tried out a -8 Ghost in the cages and seemed fine at that weight but the -5 seemed ok too. Is trying the Velo -5 unreasonable at his size? I was trying to move up in weight in anticipation of high school ball.
It is definitely going to be a big jump from a -11 but soon he will be using BBCOR bats and have to make the jump so I think that it is a good idea to get a start on that now. Based on his height and weight we would recommend a 30"/25 ounce 2018 Rawlings VELO -5 USA Baseball Bat: US8V5.
My son is 5'8" 160lbs 13 years old. He is in Babe ruth and must have a USA stamped bat or BBCOR.50. I was looking at this bat or was wondering if another would be a better fit. He has excellent hand/eye coordination and was wondering what length/weight would be good for him.
Based on your sons height and weight the 2018 Rawlings VELO -5 USA Baseball Bat: US8V5 in the 32"/27 ounce size would be a great option for him.
If your son was 12 yrs old, 5'5'', 160lbs, solid, strong and quick hands, like my son. Would you buy your son this Rawlings Velo -5 or the Slugger 718 -5?
Both are great bats. If your son like end loaded bats, the Slugger Select 718 is perfect for him. It is slightly end loaded with a three piece design to allow for sting reduction. If he prefers balanced, the 2018 Rawlings VELO -5 USA Baseball Bat (US8V5) would be the bat for him. The Velo is a hybrid as well, and will have nice sting reduction, but not as much as the Select 718.
What is the value of the composite end cap?
The composite end cap on the 2018 Rawlings VELO -5 USA Baseball Bat: US8V5 helps take weight away from the end of the bat to make it more balanced and lighter swinging.
Will this bat have more pop than the Easton Ghost or Beast X?
The 2018 Rawlings VELO -5 USA Baseball Bat: US8V5 will have a similar amount of pop compared to the Ghost and Beast X. However, both the Ghost and Beast X will be more end loaded than the 2018 Rawlings VELO -5 USA Baseball Bat: US8V5.
Is this bat approved for 13U teams playing USSSA tournaments?
The 2018 Rawlings VELO -5 USA Baseball Bat: US8V5 is approved for USSSA tournaments at the 13U level.
I've seen the word "Hybrid" associated with some of the new USA bats like this VELO -5. Does having a composite end cap make it a Hybrid or is there composite somewhere in the barrel?
The 2018 Rawlings VELO -5 USA Baseball Bat: US8V5 is considered a "hybrid bat" due to the composite end cap. The rest of the bat, including the barrel, is made from alloy.
