Another Solid Bat from Easton Brian C. parent

Pros: Just bought this for my 12 year old that plays competitive baseball. He had the Mako Beast last year and likes the Ghost X even better. Nice pop. No vibration complaints. Has a nice overall feel. Can't speak to durability yet. Other teammates tried it yesterday at indoor practice and loved it.

Cons: White grip gets dirty quickly but I never get much life from stock grips anyways so I could care less.

12 y/o loves this bat! Luc parent

Pros: I can only tell you what my son relays to me, but he loves this bat. He has been using a teammates LS bat of the same size (30/20). When he got his Easton, it was night and day the way the ball came off the bat. I was worried that I was paying for a name, but 3 weeks in, it seems well worth the price.

Cons: Grip seems a bit thin.

Decent bat 08 Baseball parent

Pros: Nice bat overall. Family is typically a Marucci fan. After my son cracked his 2 5/8 30/20 hex connect (composite) decided to try something different. Has a slender handle and breaks in nice. Doesn't have the pop the Marucci had but is close hence the 4 star rating on that. I wouldn't pay the $350 price tag as there are competitors out there that compare quality wise with a lower price point. Just my 2 cents

Cons: •Pop could be a bit better for claiming to have the biggest sweet spot • Price

Questions and Answers (14)

Have a question about the Easton Ghost X -10 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL18GX108? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Seeing some of the answers to other questions about boy height and weight and corresponding recommended bat dimensions has me re-considering. My 9 year old son is 61" tall and about 100 lbs yet lanky. Last year he swung a 28'', 18oz Easton S3. What would you recommend for bat size in this? Also, a 2 5/8" is really better than a 2 3/4" barrel?
Jerry
We would recommend a 30"-31" length of bat for his height and weight. As for barrel diameter, a 2 3/4" barrel will be larger than a 2 5/8", so you have an easier time to make contact with the ball and hit the sweet spot.
Kyle J.
My son is in 13U rec league. Coach says he needs a USSSA rated bat. Looking for 30" (-8) size. What does senior league and junior league mean? Which one would he be in?
Handsome Rob
At 13 years old, he will want a Senior League Bat (Senior League can also be referred to as Youth Big Barrel). Senior League and Youth Big Barrel Bats will be bats that are USSSA 1.15 rated, have a 2 5/8" or 2 3/4" barrel diameter and are intended for kid pitch play. Junior Big Barrel bats are meant for younger kids playing coach pitch or machine pitch baseball. This 2018 Easton Ghost X -10 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL18GX108) would be a bat intended for use in kid pitch baseball. However, instead of the -10 size, I would recommend a -8 bat like the following: (2018 Easton Ghost X -8 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL18GX8). You could get the recommended bat in the 30"/22 oz size.
Ben
Is this 2018 model the exact same as the 2017 model/same dimensions (Easton Mako Beast SL17MK10). If not, what are the differences?
Lauren A
The 2018 Easton Ghost X -10 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL18GX108 features Re-Designed CONNEXION+ Technology which improves the durability over the 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK10B. Other than that they are very similar in all other aspects.
Carter
What is the typical break in period for this bat?
charley
We recommend that you hit 150-200 baseballs with the 2018 Easton Ghost X -10 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL18GX108 before it will be fully broken in. Make sure to turn the bat about a quarter turn after each 10-15 hits to ensure all of the barrel is fully broken in.
Tyler
My son is 10u, weighs 70 pounds and is 4 feet 9.5 inches tall. He needs a USSA bat. Which Easton Ghost X bat would you recommend? Thank you!
Brie
Based on your player's specifications, I would recommend a 30" (-10) sized bat. Furthermore, there is no USSA certification. There are both USA and USSSA certifications. This bat, the 2018 Easton Ghost X -10 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL18GX108 is USSSA approved with a 2 5/8" barrel size and would be my recommendation if you could use a USSSA bat. However if you need a USA bat then you should check out the 2018 Easton Ghost X -10 USA Baseball Bat: YBB18GX10.
Tyler
Which size should I consider for my 11u, 120lbs, 5'1" son?
vince
Give your player's specifications, I would recommend that 31" option of the 2018 Easton Ghost X -10 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL18GX108.
Tyler
What are the differences between the SL18GX10 and the SL18GX108? These are the bats we have decided on. Also, my son is 4'5" and weighs 65 lbs. He is a lead-off and contact hitter. What size bat should we go with?
Zay
The 2018 Easton Ghost X -10 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL18GX108 features a 2 5/8" barrel diameter, while the 2018 Easton Ghost X -10 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL18GX10 has a 2 3/4" barrel. Based on his height and weight, I would suggest a 29" bat.
Logan
Is this bat end loaded or balanced? Also, what is actual weight of 30" bat? I know it says -10 but bats often weigh a bit more than their listed weight.
L.A.
The 2018 Easton Ghost X -10 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL18GX108) will feature a balanced swing weight. Most bats weigh roughly 0.5 - 1.50 oz heavier than their advertised weight and so I would anticipate a 30" Easton Ghost X to weigh between 20.5 - 21.50 oz.
Taylor
Is the SL18GX108 legal for USSSA?
mig
Yes, the 2018 Easton Ghost X -10 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL18GX108) is approved for play in USSSA.
John
My son plays 12u, he is 5 ft 4 and 145 lbs and stocky. What size bat would you recommend?
scott
Per your son's height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2018 Easton Ghost X -10 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL18GX108 in a 31 inch model.
Cameron
I see this bat is USSSA approved, however will I be able to use this bat as a USA for little league and tourneys as well?
Matthew Bermudez
No, the 2018 Easton Ghost X -10 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL18GX108 is not USA approved.
Tori
Is this an end loaded bat? The description on the Easton website seems to indicate that it is end-loaded.
Kelly
The 2018 Easton Ghost X -10 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL18GX108 offers a balanced swing weight, while the -8 and -5 versions of the bat are end loaded.
Logan
What the difference in this one and the GX10? Just color?
chris thompson
This Easton Ghost X -10 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL18GX108) differs from the Easton Ghost X -10 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL18GX10) in regard to color and barrel diameter. This SL18GX108 has a 2 5/8" barrel. The SL18GX10 has a 2 3/4" barrel diameter.
Ben
Do you have this in a 30 inch 20 oz? Drop 10?

Get your kids noticed Trey McGraw parent

Pros: I originally purchased this bat for my son to use in the cages. I felt he wasn't getting the recognition from the work he was putting in using his composite bat which has a muted sound. With this bat, everyone knows when my kid is taking BP and people are now noticing how hard and solid the ropes are to the top third of the net. This bat by far is the loudest on the market. Is your kid going to a tryout? Get this bat and you will be noticed. My boy actually fell so in love with this from his cage work though that he has taken it out to the field. Now the only sound more satisfying than the pop off this bat, is the sound of the visiting teams pickup trucks getting hit over the left field fence.

Cons: none so far

Proud Fan James parent

Pros: Bought this UT8V34 (1 piece alloy) in 30/20 for my 11 yr old grandson to replace his UT8V12 (2 piece composite) in 30/18. It was time to move to a little heavier bat. Both are great balanced bats. The UT8V34 was hot right out of the box. Has a lot pop with lots of sound. The sound gets everyone's attention. Increased his confidence at the plate immediately. The ball jumps off the -10 bat and has more carry than the -12.

Cons: The one piece alloy does sting a little on miss hits but he said it doesn't intimidate his swing.

Velo is a great bat! Freyman7 parent

Pros: Great pop! My son hits this bat a ton compared to the Marucci Hex Core he used during the season, the ball jumps off the bat. It also feels more balanced as well in comparison. The handle is very comfortable, but he can feel some vibration when he doesn’t make perfect contact on the sweet spot. $200 less than the last bat I purchased... can’t go wrong.

Cons: Smaller sweet spot than Marucci bats he’s used in the past.

Kid loves it so far Blake parent

Pros: 9 year old went from 28 inch drop 12, 2 1/4 barrel to this 29 drop 10 bat almost seamlessly. It took about 8 swings for him to get the feel and then was hitting balls harder and farther than ever. Nothing over the fence yet but hard liners to the fence and making contact on pretty much every ball that's hittable. Kids love the loud ping and feel of the bat. Only minor issue with vibration.

Cons: Kids not crazy about the way it looks. Great bat if it holds up.

Fantastic bat Matt Parent

Pros: My 10 year old was using the two piece composite -12 Velo until it developed a crack after a season's use. He loved it but not supposed to use the composite in colder weather, or hitting heavies (from what I've researched) so replaced it with this -10 Alloy. Sound is loud - which is great feedback on hitting the ball square. Pop is great. He loves it. Very pleased.

Cons: Grip wore down on his -12 Velo after a season. Same will happen with this one, being that they use the same grip, and will need to replace.

Have a question about the Rawlings VELO -10 Senior League Baseball Bat: UT8V34? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Is this bat for 2018 legal for Pony and LL?
Clutch
No, the 2018 Rawlings VELO -10 Senior League Baseball Bat: UT8V34 is USSSA certified and it will not be allowed in Pony or Little League in 2018. It is technically not allowed for 2017 either since it has the 2 3/4" barrel diameter. You will need to have a bat that is USA certified in 2018.
Jason
Any major differences from the 2017 model Velo?
Coach OJ
The 2018 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB8V3) has the same features as the last years model. The difference is in the overall look of the bat.
Carter
How does this bat compare to the COMBAT Maxum?
jorge
This 2018 Rawlings VELO -10 Senior League Baseball Bat (UT8V34) will not compare very similarly to the MAXUM. The reason they don't compare very similarly is because the material featured on the hitting surfaces of the two bats are different. This bat features alloy barrel material throughout the bat (with the exception of the end-cap) while the MAXUM features composite material throughout the bat. The small similarities would be that the bats are both mostly one-piece bats and both feature balanced swing feels.

Does the USA Velo -10 have a straight wall barrel that maximizes exit speed like the USSSA version? Just trying to get a handle on the performance difference.
"dave K
The 2018 Rawlings VELO -10 USA Baseball Bat: US8V10 does not feature the same high-performance straight wall barrel design as the 2018 Rawlings VELO -10 Senior League Baseball Bat: UT8V34 since the allowable performance level of the USA bats is much less than that of USSSA bats.

I'm looking at this bat or the new CAT 7 -10. What are the main differences and which bat would you recommend for contact hitter?
Joe
Both the 2018 Rawlings VELO -10 Senior League Baseball Bat: UT8V34 and the 2018 Marucci CAT 7 -10 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBC7X10 are very comparable and great options. The main difference is that the Rawlings Velo features a composite end cap which improves the balance making it the better option for contact hitters.

Beside the color/paint scheme, are there any differences between this year's 2018 Velo -10 and the previous year's 2017 Velo -10? My son is 10 and playing 10U travel ball. He is currently using a 2 1/4" Easton S600C 30/18 and it's been good for him but I'm looking to upgrade. He also uses an Easton S750C 30/20 USABat for Little League but I feel like that is just bit too end-loaded for him. For travel ball I think I'd like him to try the Rawlings Velo 30/20 2 3/4", the Marucci Cat 7 30/20 2 3/4", or the Demarini 2017 Retooled CF Zen 30/20 2 3/4". He's 4' 7" and 75lbs. He's more of a contact hitter with occasional power to the warning track and fence. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The biggest difference between the 2018 Rawlings VELO -10 Senior League Baseball Bat: UT8V34 and the 2017 Rawlings VELO Senior League Baseball Bat: SL7V34 is the 2018 model will be a one piece hybrid, while the 2017 will be a one piece alloy. Both are great options for a lightweight balanced bat. The 2018 Marucci CAT 7 -10 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBC7X10 would be a great option for a one piece alloy that will feel very lightweight.

Is this bat good for all weather conditions since it has a composite end cap?
Jenko
All bats, no matter the material used, are more likely to break-down when used in temperatures colder than 55 degrees. This is because the ball becomes more dense around this temperature. Bats with an aluminum barrel, like this 2018 Rawlings VELO -10 Senior League Baseball Bat (UT8V34), could potentially dent in colder temperatures and bats with a composite barrel would potentially crack.

Is this bat Little League approved? My grandson needs a USA approved bat for his All-Star Game.
MaryBeth
The Rawlings VELO -10 Senior League Baseball Bat: UT8V34 will not be approved for USA play. In order to use the VELO for USA play, you would need the Rawlings VELO -10 USA Baseball Bat: US9V10.

My son is 11 and playing 12U travel (line drive hitter). Given the huge jump in price between this bat and the 2019 Cat 8 -10, what are the main differences in pop between the two?
Daniel Herrera
I think that the potential for performance between this Rawlings VELO -10 Senior League Baseball Bat (UT8V34) and the Cat 8 -10 USSSA Bat are the same. I personally would have thought the big advantage the Cat 8 would have over this VELO is the vibration control (since the CAT 8 has the anti-vibration knob and the VELO has no real protection against vibration). However, if you look at reviews, there are very little complaints in regard to vibration on this VELO. To get the best value (price and performance being the two paramount factors), I would recommend this VELO.

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings' glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
