2018 Easton Beast X -5 Senior League Baseball Bat: BB Dad parent

Pros: Balanced, easy to swing, big barrel, lots of POP My son loves this bat for his transition to bbcor and for tournaments where it is required.

Cons: The current grip is not very thick and has no tapered rubber end so there is more sting. Good if you have small hands I guess. Also the grip is quite tacky and abrasive and he said it tore up his batting gloves. Added Lizard Grip and problem solved.

Questions and Answers (8)

Have a question about the Easton Beast X -5 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL18BX5? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Does this meet the new national bat standards to be implemented in 2018?
Mike
This 2018 Easton Beast X -5 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL18BX5) will meet standards needed for use in all divisions of USSSA play in 2018. However, it will not meet the USABat certification that will be implemented in Little League, Pony, Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken, Dixie, Pony, AABC or Dizzy Dean in 2018. The ability to use this bat for play in a specific league or tourney will be dependent upon the certification needed for that league or tourney.
Ben
If I pre order will I receive bat on 9/1 or will it ship on 9/1?
Joseph Mcmurray
If you Pre-Order the 2018 Easton Beast X -5 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL18BX5) it will Ship On 9/1 with free two-day Shipping.
Carter
Is this equivalent to the XL3 or the S3?
Juantia Marino
This 2018 Easton Beast X -5 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL18BX5) will be most similar to an XL3 model since it has a one-piece, all-alloy design and end-loaded swing weight.
Ben
Does this bat dent easy? My son hits the ball hard and tends to dent bats badly. Is this a bat that can handle practice and games without denting?
PacoHidalgo
The 2018 Easton Beast X -5 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL18BX5 is a one piece alloy bat so there is potential to dent this, much like a composite bat has the potential to crack. However, the Beast X utilizes ATAC Alloy to create the strongest and most powerful barrel Easton has ever released.
Tyler
My son dented three of the 31"/21 oz Easton S3's in a short fall season. One of the bats was able to be warrantied and Easton gave me the Beast X -8. However, less than a month later, he dented that bat. My son has always used Easton since 8U. Never had a problem till now. He is 12 years old, 5'7" and weighs 190 lbs. Could he be too strong for the bat? What bat size and drop would you recommend?
The kid
I would say that your player is probably too strong for the -10 and -8 bats. I would recommend this 2018 Easton Beast X -5 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL18BX5) in the largest 32"/27 oz size. I would believe that he should be able to get solid durability using that bat. However, if the -5's get to be too light for him, the next move would be to the -3 BBCOR bats used in high school play.
Ben
What's the difference between this bat and the USA Beast X? Which one is higher performing?
Jacob pol
While both bats will feature a one-piece, aluminum design and an end-loaded swing weight, the barrel diameter and league certification will be different for these bats. The 2018 Easton Beast X -5 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL18BX5) has a 2 3/4" barrel diameter and will be USSSA-certified (1.15 BPF). The 2018 Easton Beast X -5 USA Baseball Bat (YBB18BX5) has a 2 5/8" barrel diameter and is approved for USA play. USA-certified bats are lower performing than USSSA-certified bats.
Taylor
My son has been swinging the 30 in drop 8. He is 58 inches tall and 97 lbs. Do you think the drop 5 will be to much for him? He loves the drop 8.
Jeremy
It's tough to give specific bat weight recommendations without having seen your player play, but I would say that the 2018 Easton Beast X -5 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL18BX5 would be a natural transition for him since he has been swinging the -8 model already.
Tyler
What's the difference besides composite vs aluminum between the 2018 Ghost X and the Beast X?
Jose
The material in the construction really is the only main difference between the Ghost X and this 2018 Easton Beast X -5 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL18BX5.

The Easton XL3 is a perfect example of how Easton constantly pushes the boundaries of technology and sets the standard for high performance baseball bats. Swiftness, durability, and truly advanced innovations are all a part of every XL3 that Easton produces. Great bat NikoMaxim player

Pros: Today a local training facility had a Easton bat demo day, in which you could try all the new 2017 bats from Easton. My favorite bat that I tried was the XL3. Honestly, I tried the new 2017 Mako Beast XL, and I thought it had decent pop, but it felt like it had a heavier MOI (Moment of Inertia), or swing weight than the BBCOR version of the Mako Beast XL, and the Xl3. I also believe the 2016 model has equal or better performance than new Beast XL. The Xl3 is the superior bat this year because I feel like it has a much lower swing weight than Beast XL, even though they are both labeled as a top heavy bats. I also believe I can get my hand threw the zone much quicker because of that lower swing weight, and I believe both bats have great bats have great pop, but in my opinion if you hit the ball right, the XL3 has a much better feel on contact.

Cons: None yet on this astounding bat.

Questions and Answers (18)

Have a question about the Easton XL3 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17X35? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

What is the difference between the 2016 and 2017 models of the Easton XL3 senior bat - SL17X35?
Rao Gondy
The main difference between the 2017 Easton XL3 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17X35 and the 2016 Easton XL3 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16X35 would be the colorway. Both of these bats will feature HMX alloy, end-loaded swing weight with HYPERSKIN Grip tape.
Cameron
Can I use this bat in high school?
dj
The 2017 Easton XL3 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17X35 has a drop 5, so it would not be legal in high school. High school levels require a drop 3, which would be BBCOR certified.
Linsey
Looking for an end-loaded, one piece bat to provide some extra power for my 10U contact hitter. Would you recommend this bat?
Fast Ed
If you are looking for a one-piece bat with an end-loaded swing weight, I would definitely recommend this 2017 Easton XL3 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL17X35). The end-load will definitely benefit a power hitter. Also, as long as the -5 length-to-weight ratio is optimal for him, this would definitely be the bat to get.
Ben
Is it a 2 1/4" barrel 32 inch in a composite bat?
Leslie Akehurst
The 2017 Easton XL3 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17X35 is a composite bat, although it is a 2 5/8 barrel width.
Max L
Is this bat a 32 inch with a 2 1/4" barrel? Also, is it a composite bat?
Leslie Akehurst
Yes, the 2017 Easton XL3 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17X35 is available in a 32" but it is a 2 5/8". If you are looking for 2 1/4" barrels you are going to want to look at "Youth" baseball bats. Also, the Easton XL3 is a one piece full alloy bat.
Cooper
Is the 2017 Easton XL3 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17X35 legal for Babe Ruth (13/14 division)?
Baseball Parent
The 2017 Easton XL3 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17X35 is legal for use in Babe Ruth as this bat features an alloy barrel. The rules for this division state that any alloy barrel featuring a 2 5/8" barrel can be used. If a player wants to use a composite bat then it must be a BBCOR model.
Cameron
Is this bat meant for a contact hitter or a power hitter?
Coach
The 2017 Easton XL3 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17X35 can be used by both and have success, but I would say that the XL3 leans towards a power hitter.
Max
I will be 13 years old next time I play Dixie youth baseball, can I use this bat in the 2018 season?
Baker15
Dixie youth is changing their bat rules so the 2017 Easton XL3 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17X35 would not be legal for the 2018 season. For Dixie, all bats will require the new "USA Baseball" stamp to be legal. Those bats are scheduled to come out the beginning of September.
Cooper
What is the major difference between the Mako XL and XL3?
lk
The 2017 Easton XL3 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17X35 is a one-piece alloy bat with an end loaded swing weight. The Easton MAKO Xl (SL16MK5) is a two-piece fully composite bat with an end loaded swing weight.
Jason
Is the 2017 Easton XL3 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL17X35) legal for Little League?
Jo-Anne
This 2017 Easton XL3 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL17X35) will not be legal for use in any Little League division in 2018 because it has USSSA 1.15 certification. If your player is participating in the Senior Division of Little League, he will need a bat with BBCOR certification.
Ben
My son is 13 years and about 5'3" and 110 lbs, is a 31" a good size?
eman
Based on his height and weight, we suggest a 31" model of the 2017 Easton XL3 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17X35.
Jason
My son is 5'3" and 130 lbs. He is 12 years old and is ready to move up to a (-5). I'm thinking about purchasing him the 31x26 in this bat. Do you think this is the right size for him? Also, he had the S3 last year and dented/cracked 2 of them. Is this bat a lot more durable than the S3?
jody
Based on your player's height and weight, I would suggest the 31" 2017 Easton XL3 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17X35, as you mentioned. The 2017 Easton XL3 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17X35 will be more durable than the lighter S3 he swung previously.
Logan
I'm 14 years old. Last year, I had a -8, XL3 and did well. I was just wanting to know which bat would have more pop? Should I stay with an XL3 or get something different?
Cody Woodward
Since you did well with the XL3 (-8) last season, I would recommend getting another XL3, but moving up to the -5 length-to-weight ratio. This 2017 Easton XL3 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL17X35) will feature a -5 length-to-weight ratio and a decent end-loaded feel like the bat you have used in the past.
Ben
What's the difference between SL16X35 and SL17X35?
james
The 2017 Easton XL3 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17X35 and the Easton XL3 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16X35 are essentially the same bat. The SL17X35 is the 2017 option and the SL16X35 is the 2016 option.
Dan
What bat is closest to a S2 with an end load?
Quinner
The 2017 Easton XL3 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17X35 would be the most similar to the S2.
Max
Does this bat come in a drop 3?
Kim Caughren
The 2017 Easton XL3 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17X35 is not made in a BBCOR model. However, the 2017 Easton Z-CORE XL BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB17ZX would be a very close comparable option.
Daveron
Is this bat approved for Babe Ruth ages 13-15? Is it USA approved?
Jennifer
The Easton XL3 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL17X35) features the USSSA-certification and would not be approved for use in the Babe Ruth league. A bat that features a similar construction and the USA certification is the Easton Beast Pro -5 USA Baseball Bat (YBB19BP5).
Taylor
Is this bat a 32 inch bat?
gabriel
At the time of this posting, the only size we have available in the Easton XL3 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17X35 would be 30 inches.
