Pros:  Great feel and pop in -10. I need two bats because I play in two leagues that require 2 3/4" and 2 5/8" barrels-so I'll probably get the 2 5/8" for when I need it. Performance is great and the ball feels good coming off. Really balanced.

Cons:  The custom lizard skin grip is nice, but I usually prefer athletic tape

Pros:  Good pop and balance.

Cons:  Have sent 2 in for warrantee replacement due to denting. I'd suggest for 10u and younger. Only used in games and live batting cages with baseballs with 12u player.

Pros:  Has a lot of pop coming off the bat, my 10 yr. old loves this bat, not to mention he follows the college world series and that's all he see's them using. He's been swinging a 28 (-10) but know I have just upgraded him to a 29 (-10)

Cons:  The cons are, I just sent the 28 inch back in because of dents, my son is ten and plays 11u major, I don't know if it's because he is swinging the 28 inch and the 29 inch may be a little stronger so we are trying that in terms of longevity.

Pros:  It has a very big sweet spot, no sting what so ever, and it hits line drives even when it is not good contact,it is just the right amount of weight for you to be able to swing fast but still heavy enough to drive it over the outfielders heads, very good durability.

Cons:  None yet

Cons:  Ive heard it gets dented easily from some people but i havent had that problem through my forst 5 months with it. only thing the grip has got ripped up and i meed to get a new lizard skin but nothing affecting the performance.

Pros:  When it was working correctly, the bat had a nice pop to it. My son really liked it until the dents and dead spots happened and the handle fell off.

Cons:  We've sent this bat back 3 times for warranty issues. It dents very easily. One bat dented on the first day of use. When it does dent, the "sweet spot" is considerably altered. You have to send it back to Louisville and it takes approximately a month to get a different bat.   The experience with their customer service is very frustrating.

Pros:  My son plays 10u and really likes this bat. It has great pop, large sweet spot and very minimal vibration. He was hitting singles with his old bat, and we could tell the ball exit speed was an issue, but not with this bat. He is now hitting over the fence, ground rule doubles, triples, etc. This is really an outstanding bat.

Cons:  There are a lot of quality comments about the bat, specifically dents. We have not had an issue with dents however, we use a sleeve for batting cages and/or we use an old bat. The issue we had is that the knob broke off after his 2nd game. It was a straight break at the neck, like it was a weak spot and possibly just a fluke. Justbats replaced this for us and so far so good with the 2nd go round. I will post again if there are any more issues. I still would recommend the bat.

Pros:  Son is playing 8u and loved the bat once it arrived.

Cons:  The knob flew off the bat in less than 20 swings. In all of my life, I have never seen a knob disconnect from a bat. He hit a ball off the barrel and and the KNOB flew off. How could this happen?

My son is 4’1” and about 56 lbs; small for a 10 year old. Would you recommend the 26/16 or the 27/17 for him? He’s been using the CAT 6 in a 26/16 and has been doing well with it. But we are looking for a great kid pitch league bat. Heard great reviews about the Omaha 517, any others you would recommend?

Based on your player's height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2017 Louisville Slugger Omaha 517 Senior League Baseball Bat: SLO517X in a 28 inch model. If you wanted to go with something smaller you could certainly do so if you feel this would be better for your player. As for the 2017 Louisville Slugger Omaha 517 Senior League Baseball Bat: SLO517X, this is a one-piece all alloy model featuring a balanced swing weight. It has been a well reviewed bat and would be a top choice for one seeking a one-piece alloy model.

If your player can handle the larger 29"/19 oz size of the 2017 Louisville Slugger Omaha 517 Senior League Baseball Bat (SLO517X), I would certainly make a recommendation of getting that bat for him. This bat gets excellent reviews from JustBats customers.

Is this for a 9 year old? It says senior so unsure.

The 2017 Louisville Slugger Omaha 517 Senior League Baseball Bat: SLO517X is a bat that can be used by a player up to the age of 11. Since this bat has a 2 3/4" barrel diameter it should hold up well for the younger players but will certainly break down quicker for players who are older than 11.

My son is almost 15. We are interested in this bat, but keep seeing comments about it denting. Is there an issue with that?

This 2017 Louisville Slugger Omaha 517 Senior League Baseball Bat (SLO517X) would display denting for a player that is almost 15 years old. You guys will want to view the 2017 Louisville Slugger Omaha 517 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBO5173) as he is at high school age. That BBCOR bat will display better durability for a player your age.

The 2017 Louisville Slugger Omaha 517 Senior League Baseball Bat: SLO517X features a newer ST 7U1+ alloy where the 516 features 7U1 alloy. This new alloy on the 517 provides a bigger sweet spot and a stiffer feel at contact.

Need an expert opinion. My son plays 10U travel ball for BPA and USSSA and I am in the market to get him a decent bat. He currently has been using the Miken Freak 2 3/4 (Black and green) for the past 2 yrs. Great bat with good pop but it was discontinued a long time back. In fact one of our kids has a Demarini CF8 that I would put his Freak up against any day of the week. However he is ready for a new one I think. I like the Rawlings and have seen good performance from them in the past (awesome sound). The only negative thing I have ever read or seen is some dent easily. I noticed you guys have lowered 2017 prices. So I am interested in two drop -10 senior 2 3/4 models. One is the Velo SL7V34 and the other is the 5150 SL7534. Can you tell me what is the difference and which is the better performer in your opinion? Are both subject to dent easily? Thanks for your help!!

The difference between the 2017 Rawlings VELO Senior League Baseball Bat: SL7V34 and the 2017 Rawlings 5150 is the type of aluminum used and the Velo features a composite end cap. The composite end cap will create a more balanced feel over the Rawlings 5150 and the Acoustic Alloy will feature higher performance than the 5150. All in all the Rawlings Velo is going to be a higher end bat. We have not taken many warranty replacements for denting on either.

How does this compare to a 5150?

The 2017 Rawlings VELO Senior League Baseball Bat: SL7V34, when compared to the 5150, are very similar bats. How does the Velo compare to the Marucci Hex Alloy? Which bat bat will feel lighter in a drop 10? Lastly will the 5/8 feel any different in swing weight form the 3/4?

The 2017 Rawlings VELO Senior League Baseball Bat (SL7V34) is very comparable to the 2016 Marucci Hex Alloy Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBAHAX10) in that they are both one piece aluminum designs with balanced swing weights. Where the Velo will be different is in its Silver Comp Lite End Cap and Acoustic Alloy. Due to the composite end cap it will be a little bit more balanced the the Hex and the swing weight will feel very similar in the 2 5/8" and 2 3/4" barrels.

My son in about 5'2" and 85 lbs. What size should I get and is this a great bat for him? He play 13U select.

The recommended length for him is 30 inches. Depending on whether your son will be transitioning to high school baseball shortly, this bat may be a bit light in weight for him. In high school, he will be required to use a -3.

I am trying to decide between two bats for a 9U boy entering kid pitch. What is the advantage of having the Rawlings VELO Senior League vs. the Rawlings 5150 Senior League bat?

Both this 2017 Rawlings VELO Senior League Baseball Bat (SL7V34) and the 2017 Rawlings 5150 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL7534) will be excellent bats for use by your player. However, this VELO will feature a few more extra technologies on it. Those extra technologies will include a composite end-cap to make the bat feel more balanced swinging overall and updated pOp 2.0 technology to allow for more flex and performance. If you are wanting to get the bat with the most technology, I would recommend this VELO.

Ben Expert
128581 Click to show/hide answer

Are there any technological differences between this bat and the 2016 model besides the color scheme and graphics? Will the 2017 model be available in a drop 8?

The 2017 Rawlings VELO Senior League Baseball Bat: SL7V34 features enhanced durability and precision technology that allows for an increase in flex and pop compared to the 2016 Rawlings VELO Senior League Baseball Bat: SLVR10. Unfortunately Rawlings did not produce the 2017 VELO in a -8 length to weight ratio so we will not have that size available in this model.

Description for 2017 Rawlings VELO Senior League Baseball Bat: SL7V34
New for 2017! The Rawlings VELO has earned a reputation for being one of the lightest and fastest swinging baseball bats on the market from year to year and the newest version completely backs it up. Never in the history of baseball have more pitchers touched 90+ mph so hitters have less time to react at the dish, and there's no time for error. If the game is evolving to become this fast, then shouldn't your bat be? Thanks to the VELO's Silver Comp Lite composite end cap that is fiber reinforced, unnecessary weight is removed from the end of the barrel, shifting the MOI towards the player's hands. If your increased swing speed or the awesome cosmetics don't turn heads at the ball field, the enhanced pop and resonating ping from the acoustic alloy surely will. Rawlings' acoustic alloy enhances the durability and is the loudest alloy on the market - the proof is in the ping! Not only does this VELO offer the loudest ping in the industry, but the precision laser pOp 2.0 creates a lasered groove through the sweet spot that increases flexibility and the trampoline effect. Extreme balance, an explosive swing speed, and massive pop are the three things that make up the winning combination the VELO offers. Rawlings: The Mark of a Pro!

This 2017 Rawlings VELO Senior League Baseball Bat: SL7V34 features a -10 length to weight ratio, a 2 3/4 inch barrel diameter, and the USSSA 1.15 BPF Certification. The one-piece alloy construction is also backed by a full twelve (12) month manufacturer's warranty. Buy your VELO today with fast, free shipping!
