Pros:  For under $100, you can't find a better composite bat. The VIGOR has insane pop. It comes wrapped with Lizard Skin already so you don't have to buy one. Super balanced. My son chooses this over the $400+ bats he has in the dugout.

Cons:  The knob seems a little cheap but as long as it stays on, I'm not complaining.

Pros:  My son is pounding the ball with this bat. He's used other good bats, Easton, DeMarini, Marucci, LS, but this one has more pop than all of them. He's hitting the ball harder than he ever has.

Cons:  Vibrates a little when he doesn't quite barrel up, but not often. There's allot of barrel to work with. Great bat.

Pros:  Son needed a replacement bat when the -8 Zen got banned. This bat it a one piece composite so a slightly different feel but just as balanced. . Lots of POP. Cannot beat this price. Get one before the sell out.

Cons:  Mis-hits can vibrate.

Pros:  My undersized 12-yr old son smacked the ball this season including a home run. Struck out once all year, so no problem getting the bat around and putting it in the right place. He loves the bat. This is his second Combat, has had a -10 and this season the -8. We'll do a -5 for next year. By the end of the season, all but 2 kids were using this bat.

Cons:  Several vibration hits early in use. By the time the season started, it was good to go.

Pros:  This bat has amazing pop. I am hitting it harder than ever. It never has dead spots so you can hit the ball anywhere on the bat. It also has lizard skin on it so you don't have to by it. This is amazing bat.

Cons:  looks like it has a cheap barrel but as long as it stays on i'm fine.

Pros:  Bought for my 7th grader. Good idea, but I failed to realize he is already ready for -3 and thia bat was just too small for him. He's 5'7 and 150# at 12. Now, the bat seems to have great pop for -8 and is likely a good feel for a smaller power hitter, but make sure your kid is not ready for a heavier bat before purchasing.

Cons:  vibration

Pros:  The ball just jumps right off the bat and into the outfield but even if you roll over the ball is still hit hard and looks like it is all good. My son has this bat and he shot up from a 8 hole to the 3 hole. He is hitting home-runes to all corners of the field. He say that this bat has the best feel, pop, and as zero vibration when he makes contact with the ball.

Cons:  Had it sense the week after it came out but still don't know the durability. but by the looks of it, it should be all good.

Pros:  The bat has excellent pop and the sound was so mean at contact that everyone in the cages at practice snapped their heads around. Living in the PNW hasn't given the opportunity to use it outside of cages yet, have indoor tournament in two weeks so we'll see then.

Pros:  My son is 13 and we bought this bat as a backup bat to his Lousiville Slugger. He has only had it 2 weeks now and he hit outside on 300’ fences for the first time last week and hit 7 home runs. i think his Louisville Slugger just became his backup bat.

Cons:  Only had it a couple of weeks so cant speak to the durability yet.

Pros:  Superb feel with end loaded power. Two piece composite construction is wound up tight with terrific pop & sound. The CXN Stopper & huge sweet spot barrel will allow both contact and power hitters to benefit from its performance. Easton continues to set the Standard... The bat's official name (BEAST XL) is quite appropriate...

Cons:  Everyone on the team wants to use it ...

Pros:  The Ball just jumps off the bat has a great sweet spot. My son keeps hitting Home Runs and Doubles with it. You can see him on YouTube at Izzy Nieto watches Owen take one in the Ribs & then get Revenge. You can see how the bat sounds and how the ball jumps of the bat. He only uses it for game time.

Cons:  Dont really have any.

What's the difference between Vigor and Maxum?

The 2018 COMBAT MAXUM -8 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL8MX108 has a more balanced feel with a slightly longer barrel. The 2017 COMBAT VIGOR -8 Senior League Baseball Bat: VG2SL108 will feature a more end heavy feel with a slightly shorter barrel.

My son is 5'7" and 116 lbs, would you recommend the -8 or -5 COMBAT Vigor? He is more of a power hitter but I'm not sure if the -5 is too heavy for him.

Based on your son's height and weight, we would recommend getting a 31 inch bat. If the player is in 7th grade, then the 2017 COMBAT VIGOR -8 Senior League Baseball Bat: VG2SL108 would be a great option to consider. If the player is going into 8th grade/in 8th grade, then going with a -5 model would be a better option to help the player transition into high school.

Do I need to have my boy do anything special to make sure this bat gets broke-in properly?

For the first day of use, I would recommend moving from tee work - to soft toss - to live BP. After that first day, you can go right into live BP immediately when you start using the bat. I would imagine that within 2-3 days of use, the bat should be broken-in and top performance should be displayed.

With Combat going out of business and reading other questions regarding the warranty, if there is a need for a warranty claim and the bats are no longer in stock, what will Just Bats offer as a replacement?

If a warranty replacement is needed on a Combat, such as the 2017 COMBAT VIGOR -8 Senior League Baseball Bat: VG2SL108, and there are no longer any bats available to replace with, the original price paid for the Combat would be credited toward another bat as replacement.

Can this bat be used in Babe Ruth 14-15 year olds?

To my knowledge, Babe Ruth at that age requires composite bats, such as the 2017 COMBAT VIGOR -8 Senior League Baseball Bat: VG2SL108, to be BBCOR certified, which it is not. To use a -8 bat, it would need to feature an alloy barrel.

Why is this 2017 bat's price so low compared to its original price?

Combat is out of business, so we went ahead and bought a lot of their remaining stock at a discount price, which allows us to sell these bats for cheaper than normal. We also are not price locked by the since they are currently out of business.

How does this compare to the 2016 COMBAT Portent G4? Barrel size, sweet spot, balance, etc.

The 2017 COMBAT VIGOR -8 Senior League Baseball Bat: VG2SL108 and the COMBAT Portent G4 are very similar bats. Both of these bats are one-piece fully composite designed bats with balanced swing weights. The VIGOR will have a slightly larger/more extended barrel compared to the Portent G4 (very, very small difference).

My son is and 5’4” and weighs around 170 and he hits for power. Would you recommend this bat over a LS Prime 918? He is currently swinging a 32” -8 Marucci CAT 7 which has a balanced swing weight and we want to add a second bat to his arsenal. That or another bat choice you would recommend.

I would recommend the 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK8 if he is more of a power hitter since it is end loaded. The Louisville Slugger Prime 918 will be balanced and much closer to the Marucci CAT 7, so if you are looking for a different option the Easton MAKO BEAST XL would be a great choice.

Since USSSA recently banned the 2017 CF Zen Balanced (-8) 2 5/8" Baseball Bat I am looking for a comparable bat for my son. How does this bat compare to the CF Zen? Also does the Mako Beast need break in time like typical Mako's and if so how many swings? Last question - what would you recommend a CF Zen drop 8 user switch to? Thanks...

The Mako Beast is arguably one of the closest bats to the CF Zen performance wise. It will require a similar break-in period since it is a composite bat just like the CF Zen. This Mako Beast is an excellent choice to look at, as well as other options like the Marucci Cat 7 or the Louisville Slugger Prime 917.

The 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK8 will have a slightly larger sweet spot compared to the 2016 model as this bat will have a slightly longer barrel (about 1.5 inches longer than the 2016 model).

What is the difference in the MAKO BEAST XL model and the regular MAKO BEAST model? Which model is better for a 5' tall, 90 lb 11 years old?

The main difference in the 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK8 and the regular MAKO BEAST is the swing weight design. The MAKO XL models will feature an end-loaded swing weight design while the regular MAKOs feature a balanced weight design. For a stronger player with faster bat speed an end-loaded model typically is more beneficial as these bats will allow the player to generate greater barrel whip through the zone which can translate to additional power in the swing. A balanced bat like the regular MAKO is a better design for those players that are contact or gap to gap type hitters. For an 11 year old who is 5' and 90 lbs, we would recommend the 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK10. The bat listed in the question (2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK8) is better suited for a player in 7th grade.

Does the MAKO BEAST XL have more pop than the 2016 MAKO?

The big difference between the 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK8 and the 2016 model will be the 1.5 inch extended barrel that the 2017 model features. This means a larger sweet spot which can potentially produce more pop.

My 13 yr old is transitioning from Little League to a high school prep squad. Question is, does he go to a -8 or -5 in the BEAST XL? He's 5'4" and was swinging a Mako XL TORQ -10 last season.

It really just depends on what he can handle. If your son can handle a -5 at this point that would be the ideal transition to -3. However, if he cannot handle the -5 this year using one will offer him no advantage. It will only hurt his swing. I would recommend going to a batting cage and swinging both of them and seeing what he is more comfortable with.

Description for 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK8
New for 2017! The latest and greatest members of the Power Brigade are here and ready to be unleashed.

The 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL is the newest version of one of the most popular baseball bats in the industry and it now has the biggest and most powerful composite barrel that Easton has ever made. The difference between the MAKO BEAST and the MAKO BEAST XL is the fact that the XL offers an end loaded swing weight rather than your typical balanced design. An XL end load gears more weight towards the end of the barrel for a more powerful and higher performing baseball bat that allows the ball to fly further and further. By extending and combining the game's longest two-piece composite barrel with the game's fastest swing speed, this bat is an absolute BEAST that offers the lowest swing weight index out of the entire 2017 Easton lineup. A low swing weight index results in a model that delivers power through fast swing speeds. Easton's redesigned TCT Thermo Composite technology now provides an extended speed barrel design. So, the BEAST's barrel is longer than ever for more plate coverage and a huge sweet spot. This extended barrel is connected to a 29/32 inch composite handle by the patented two-piece ConneXion technology that maximizes energy transfer while eliminating sting for optimized feel and comfort. Adding to the specs is the fact that each MAKO BEAST XL comes wrapped with the formidable HYPERSKIN grip. Easton: Unleash The Beast!
