Lots of pop - not balanced Josh Parent

Pros: As advertised this bat already has great pop out of the wrapper and my son loves swinging it.

Cons: This bat swings heavy and feels more end loaded than balanced. The weighting seems different than prior year Zen bats, it's advertised as balanced but it feels heavier than the Zen BBCOR -3 another kid on my son's team swings. On my home scale the 30 inch drop 5 weighs 26.5 ounces, while my son's old 30 drop 8 Posey was within a half ounce as advertised, so I know the scale is close.

Good bat Dusty Coach

Pros: Ball bounces off the bat. All the players on the team love to swing it!

Cons: We can only use it in a few tournaments. Wish we would have gone with a 33” for our 14u team as our team usually swings all BBCOR and wood.

My son turns 12 in May. He is currently 5’7” and 185 lbs. The charts say to get him a 33” bat and I’m thinking drop 5. Many dads have told me not to follow the charts. What do you think? Jacques Coupet
Per your son's height and weight, we would recommend getting nothing smaller than a 32 inch 27 ounce model. The DeMarini CF -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB521 is a great bat to consider as it also comes in 33 inches.
Cameron
Do they make this drop five in a 29 inch? Cliff
The DeMarini CF -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB521 is not made in a 29 inch model.
Cameron
My son is 13, 5’5" and 106 lbs. He is pretty skinny, strong but not a power hitter. I am debating on what drop 5 bat to get him. The CF Zen seems great with a lot of pop, it says balanced but how end-loaded is it? I was also looking at the drop 5 Posey28. Brandon Bills
The DeMarini CF -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB521 is a balanced bat and would work well for someone that is more of a contact type hitter. Per your son's height and weight, we would recommend a 31 inch.
Cameron
I’m 13 and playing club, I used to swing a 31 -8 and now I’m thinking a 31 -5. Would this be a good weight for me? Luke sullivan
At the 14U level, all USSSA players would have to use a -5 bat and the DeMarini CF -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB521 would be a great option to consider. As well, 13U players could also use the bat if they seek something heavier.
Cameron
How does the 'SwingWeight' for a 30/25 DeMarini CF (-5) compare to a 30/25 Louisville Slugger Meta? Trying to gauge between the 2 bats which one swings lighter or heavier for my son who is about 4'-10" & 105lbs. Thanks. Rob
The DeMarini CF -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB521 is expected to have a lighter swing weight than the Louisville Slugger Meta -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WBL2469010

I have a 12 yr old turning 13 June 2021. He's 5 ft 5 inches and weighs 155 lbs. Is this 32/27 drop 5 a good size for him. Alex Castellon
The DeMarini CF -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB521 32" is a great option, just based on the height and weight of your player. The weight of the bat is largely dependent on the strength of the player, however, a drop 5 is a very common size for 12 and 13 year-olds.
Lauren
My son will be turning 13 in June of this year. He is almost 5'6'' around 145lbs. Next year he will need a drop 5 bat, but he wants to start swinging one this year. Would you recommend the 32'' or 33'' based on his size? He is currently swinging a 32'' with no issues -10. Nelson
Based on your player's height and weight, a 32" bat would be recommended for him!
Lauren
What performance characteristics distinguish this bat from the Glitch? Charles Hough
The DeMarini CF -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB521 and the DeMarini CF Glitch -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB5GL are the same bat but with a different colorway design.
Cameron
My son is playing 13u travel ball so he must swing a -5. He’s 5’3" and 93 lbs. with a 68 inch wing span. What length would you recommend? Ebony
Per your son's height and weight, we would recommend the DeMarini CF -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB521 in a 31 inch.
Cameron
My son is 5’10” and approaching 5’11”. Weight is in the 140-150 lbs. range, will turn 14 next spring. He is using a 32 inch, -5 CAT9. We are looking at the CAT9 Composite and the DeMarini CF Composite. Two questions: 1) Any major differences between these two options? 2) Thoughts on staying with 32, -5 or consider the 33, -5? Ryan
Per your son's height and weight, we would recommend a 32 inch model of the DeMarini CF -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB521. Both the DeMarini CF -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXCB521 and the CAT9 Composite are two-piece composite bats with balanced to slightly end-loaded swing weight feels. The main difference is the barrel diameter as the CF will be 2 5/8" and the CAT9 is slightly larger at 2 3/4".

About the Brand

In 1992, DeMarini Sports had something to celebrate. The three-year-old company had climbed a rung on the proverbial ladder of success, moving its world headquarters from a dirt-floored barn to a slightly larger metal shack. "It was a big move for us," recalled Ray DeMarini from the batting cage of DeMarini Sport’s present-day Bat Industrial Complex. "The new shop was larger, more storm resistant, and -best of all- it had a heater."

In the early days, DeMarini Sports hardly made a blip on the radar screen of softball. With no retailers and virtually no advertising budget, DeMarini grew steadily by selling high-performance bats directly to customers. While established companies made "juiced" bats for the pros and ordinary bats for the public, DeMarini focused on making one line of high-performance bats for pros and amateurs alike. This approach, combined with a passion for the sport, led to the greatest innovation in softball history - the world’s first multi-wall bat: the DeMarini Doublewall.

Released in 1993, the DeMarini Doublewall was the world’s first multi-wall bat. Like a modern golf driver or oversized tennis racket, the Doublewall had a giant "sweetspot," which allowed average players to hit like pros. DeMarini’s sales exploded, and before long opposing bat manufacturers to notice. DeMarini - a homegrown company led by a softball fanatic - had shaken the establishment silly.

To understand the rise of the DeMarini Dynasty, you need to know Ray DeMarini. A cult hero among avid players, Ray DeMarini emerged on the professional softball scene at the age of 40, a veritable geriatric among younger players. With a scientific approach to training, a batting speed of 96 miles-per-hour and a bombastic attitude, DeMarini fast earned a reputation as a savage competitor.

In June of 1987, ESPN launched a nationwide search for a hardcore player to advise on a series of instructional softball videos. When approached by producer Erich Lytle, the biggest boys in softball repeatedly spoke of a five-foot-seven softball giant—Ray DeMarini. DeMarini had mastered reflex hitting, a technique that drops the ball squarely between the infield and outfield. Impressed with DeMarini's knowledge and scientific approach to training, Lytle not only hired Ray as an advisor—he hired him as the host. Together, they produced Ray DeMarini's Reflex Hitting System, ESPN's most successful home video to date.

Having garnered national recognition through ESPN, Ray turned his efforts toward designing a high-performance bat for the masses. To accomplish this, he needed an engineer. "Not just an engineer," he said, "but a boot-strapping rocket scientist who could build an empire with pocket change." Ray's call was answered by Mike Eggiman. Having grown up on a farm, Eggiman was adept at making the most of a situation. Case in point: the company's first piece of automated bat-making equipment had the heart of an abandoned washing machine.

With Eggiman as Chief Engineer, DeMarini Sports delivered a series of industry firsts: the first multi-wall bat (Doublewall Distance), the first high-performance bat for massive players (Fatboy) and the first high-performance youth bat (Black Coyote).

In 2000, DeMarini joined forces with Wilson Sporting Goods to develop the next generation of hitting technology. Ray believed it was a perfect fit, as both companies shared a vision of developing game-enhancing equipment for avid players. What’s more, the companies had complimentary products: Wilson was the leader in gloves, balls and protective gear, while DeMarini made the world’s finest bats. According to Chris Considine, Vice President/General Manager of Wilson Sporting Goods: "The thing that struck me most about DeMarini was their passion for sports and their true competitiveness.

Within a year, DeMarini unveiled the industry’s first concept bat, the $35,000 F1. Secured under lock and key at the DeMarini Bat Industrial Complex in Hillsboro, Oregon, the F1 served as a technological storehouse for future products, including DeMarini’s landmark Half & Half system.

In December 2001, 12 years after the genesis of DeMarini Sports, Ray DeMarini died of cancer in his Northwest Portland home. He was 55. The next summer, the Portland Metro Softball Association paid homage to the “King of Softball” with the dedication of Ray DeMarini Field. Formerly known as Delta #1, the field was DeMarini’s favorite place to test bats during the early days of business. Ray DeMarini—bat maker and player extraordinaire—was remembered for his high-performance softball bats and unwavering encouragement of everyday players. Today, a 40-foot sign announcing RAY DEMARINI FIELD graces the outfield, and an interpretive display chronicling Ray’s life greets players as they register for games.

More "Insane Dedication to Performance" is in store for tomorrow.
