solid bat Nick Emery Player

Pros: great pop, feels pretty light, I have used this for probably 5 or 6 games now and it has held up great, a lot of people on my team use it as well, the barrel is huge.

Cons: I don't mind this but it is listed as balanced but it is definitely end-weighted, the vibration is only kind of bad when you hit it off the end of the bat or by the handle

Good bat Preston Player

Pros: I hit shots with this bat. Great pop and a good sweet spot for a one piece. Not as balanced as the velo but still pretty light. Although it does have more pop than the velo in my opinion.

Cons: It stings if you don’t barrel it up.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB953? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

I am going into my senior year and I'm looking at which Rawlings bat I should purchase. (1) I am wondering what the difference was between the previous Rawlings 5150 and this Rawlings 5150. (2) Also, what Rawlings bat would you recommend between the Velo and the 5150? And why? Z
(1) The two Rawlings 5150s will differ in their cosmetics and that this Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB953) features the new Hyper-Lite Speed Cap for a lighter feel and faster swing speed. (2) For many years now, the VELO bats have rated very well at JustBats and for some of the years, many considered the VELO, the best BBCOR bat out there. Because of that high regard, I might suggest the VELO over the 5150. However, I think the 5150 bats are awesome and if you want one, it would be a great purchase.
Ben
Does this bat feel like a Louisville Omaha 517 model? Christian Coipel
The Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB953 would have a similar feel to a LS Omaha 517. Both of these bats are one-piece alloy models with balanced swing weight designs.
Cameron
What are all the differences between the 5150 model and the VELO model? Also, what model would you recommend for a mid sized freshman in high school? Connor
The differences between the Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB953 and the Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB9V3 is the 5150 will have a balanced swing weight, 5150 Alloy and will have a straight wall barrel design. For a high school freshman I would recommend the Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB9V3 because of the ultra balanced swing weight compared to the 5150, which is more end weighted than the VELO.
Max
What is the barrel size? My son is saying something has to be 2 5/8, not sure what that means. Brook Bonomo
The Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB953 will feature a 2 5/8" barrel diameter. Per BBCOR standards, all bats will feature a -3 length to weight ratio with a 2 5/8" barrel diameter.
Cameron
What’s the difference between the 5150 and the VELO? B
The Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB953 will feature a plastic end cap and the 5150 aerospace alloy while the VELO has a composite end cap and acoustic alloy; the VELO is essentially better balanced than the 5150.
Cameron
Is there a Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB953 in a 33" 30 OZ? Neal

How would you compare the 5150 vs the Cat 6 Gen 2? Swing weight and sweet spot? Etc Q
These two bats should be very similar in terms of overall feel and performance. They are both one-piece, all aluminum/alloy models that offer a very good swing speed and balance.
Kyle
Is there a 30 day trial period for the Rawlings 5150? Tyson
No, there is not a trial period for the Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB953.
Tori
Do you have the Rawlings 5150 BBCOR, BB953 in a 34''? Tim
Unfortunatley, we will not have the 34'' Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB953.
Max
Which bat would feel more balanced? The Rawlings 5150 or the Red Marucci Cat 6 Gen 2? Do they have same sweet spot size? Q
Both the Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB953 and the Marucci CAT 6 Gen 2 are one-piece alloy bats with balanced swing weights. It would be more personal opinion regarding the balance feel and sweet spot size. If you were to poll 10 different hitters you would get different responses to each topic/category.
Cameron
Does it come in a 31” drop 8? Kenneth
The Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB953 is only featured in a -3 length to weight ratio. In the drop 8, the VELO is made so unfortunately you would not be able to get the 5150.
Cameron
Is there a big drop off in POP from the 33" to the 32"? Greg
No there will not be a big drop off in pop between those two lengths for this Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB953.

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
