One Hot Bat Gary Parent

Pros: I got this bat for my 13 year old and he loves it. The alloy barrel has tremendous pop and the composite handle does a great job of minimizing hand sting. He was the "new kid" on his Fall ball team and most of the kids used his Marucci CAT 8 Connect. He now trains with 3 other boys and they have all bought the CAT 8 Connect after having used my son's bat.

Cons: None

Beast mode Bert Coach

Pros: Tremendous pop when barreled. Nicely weighted. Power hitters will love this thing. A small bonus: the composite handle is textured in a way that holds tar really well and doesn't show it.

Cons: Too heavy for most of our players and there's no drop 10 version.

Fantastic Bat Shayne Tackett Parent

Pros: Minimal sting if any. My avg sized 13yo (5'7, 120lbs) had almost a .500 average the calendar year with 1/4 being of the extra base hit variety (not including reaching on error). A dozen or so hits were of the 300-350' variety to all fields.

Cons: If a fly lands on the bat, the paint flakes.

Great contact hitter bat Noah Wilson Player

Pros: Great bat if you are looking to put the ball in the gap and get on base, also very balanced feel.

Cons: Does not have the greatest power, so if if you are looking for great pop in a bat then this is not option for you.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Marucci CAT8 Connect -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: MSBCC85? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

My son is 13 years old, 5’1" tall and about 105 lbs. He’s fairly strong for his size but certainly not a 3 or 4 on his travel team. Should he choose the CAT 8 or the CAT 8 Connect? It appears the Connect is more end loaded but the standard CAT 8 mentioned something about it not being as forgiving to smaller players? I want to make sure I get the right one for him. Brandon
Neither model is considered end-loaded. Both are considered balanced models, but when holding them I wouldn't rate them as the most balanced models on the market either. They split the difference slightly in terms of feel in that sense. Both bats will serve your player just fine, although if you want a bit more vibration dampening then the Cat 8 Connect would probably be the way to go, since the two-piece design will accomplish that a bit better.
Kyle J.
Is there a break in time with this bat? Also how does this bat compare to the Cat 8? Tony
There is no break in time as it has an alloy barrel. This bat will be very similar to the standard Cat 8 except the Connect is a two-piece design with a composite handle which will offer a little better vibration dampening and more flex in the swing.
Kyle
Because the bat has a composite handle, does that mean it needs any break in time? Davis F
The Marucci CAT 8 Connect -5 USSSA Baseball Bat (MSBCC85) will feature an alloy barrel and composite handle. Alloy barrel bats will be game-ready right out of the wrapper.
John
Is the cat 8 connect endloaded and is it a good bat for more of a contact hitter? Matthew
Yes, the Marucci CAT 8 Connect -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: MSBCC85 is end loaded. It could still be used by a contact hitter, but it is better suited for a power hitter.
Tori
My son is 10 years old, stands 5' and 122 lbs. He prefers a heavy bat and trains with a (-3) Posey wood bat. Is it ludicrous to swing a -5 bat at his age? Daddy Ball
I wouldn't say it is ludicrous for a 10 year old player to swing a drop 5 bat. However, it certainly is rare. If he can perform in game-like conditions with a bat like this Marucci CAT 8 Connect -5 USSSA Baseball Bat (MSBCC85) then I think it is fine for him to use a drop 5 baseball bat.
Ben
The truth. The difference between Connect an not Connect ? Ray shirley
The Marucci CAT 8 Connect -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: MSBCC85 will feature a two-piece hybrid construction. The bat will feature an alloy barrel and composite handle. This option will also have an end load swing weight. The Marucci CAT 8 -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: MSBC85 is a stiffer one piece alloy bat and will feature a balanced swing weight.
Daveron
What is the difference in a CAT 8 and a CAT 8 Connect? Brad
The Marucci CAT 8 Connect -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: MSBCC85 is a two-piece bat featuring a composite handle and alloy barrel while the Marucci CAT 8 -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: MSBC85 is a one-piece alloy bat. Both bats will feature the same AZ105 alloy, balanced swing weight and 2 3/4" barrel diameter. Since the Connect will flex on contact, it will offer the best in the way of vibration control from any miss hits.
Cameron
My son has to go to a -5 next season. He is not a big, strong kid. Is the Connect heavier than the other CAT 8? Also, is the CAT 7 a better quality bat? Michael Aschi
The main difference is that the Marucci CAT 8 Connect -5 USSSA Baseball Bat (MSBCC85) will have more flex in the swing, given its two-piece construction. The Cat 7 & Cat 8 are very similar as far as quality goes, with the Cat 8 having more vibration control.
Frank
What is the difference between the CAT 8 Connect and the CAT 9 Connect? Which will have more pop? Lawrence Hsieh
Since the CAT 9 models have yet to be released we would not know how the pop compares to that of the Marucci CAT 8 Connect -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: MSBCC85. As for how these two bats differ, the new CAT 9 models will feature AZR Alloy - undergoes a 3-stage thermal treatment process. This creates a more responsive microstructure that results in a better feel, more forgiveness & more performance.
