Bat I received is heavier than the listed weight Mark H parent

Pros: A -11 USA Baseball Bat with 2 5/8 barrel. Exactly what I was looking for.

Cons: The bat I received was 1.5 ounces heavier than it's listed weight. It isn't really a -11 bat. I bought a 30 inch bat -11 ("19 ounce"). It felt heavy. When I weighed the bat on a precision scale, it weighed 20.5 ounces - making it a "drop 9.5" This "19 oz" bat is actually heavier than another "20 oz" bat that I weighed on the same scale. Wish I could upload photos of the bats on the scale so people know I am not a crank. Hey Rawlings, how about some truth in advertising????

Great Bat Alex parent

Pros: My son demoed the 30" drop 10 and really liked it, but said wish it was slightly lighter, so it was awesome to see the drop 11 on JustBats. My son has been using it at practice and has been hitting the ball well. He says it feels lighter and more balanced than his previous bat, a Mako. He's only been using it a few days, but says he likes it.

Cons: My son says he knows if he hits it bad as there is a good amount of vibration. However, he knows when he hit it well as he says he feels no vibration whatsoever.

Nice light USA Bat N's Parent parent

Pros: We purchased the LS Omaha and the DeMarini Voodoo One to compare together with the Velo for our 9 year old (all in a 28). I was interested also in the LS Solo but could not find anywhere. The Velo was clearly the lightest of the 3, followed by the Omaha and then the Voodoo One. The grip was thin which my son liked -- he is very happy with the bat. He says that when he hits in the wrong place he feels the vibration but when he hits in the right place it feels great.

Cons: This is a pricey bat for a kid -- this was WAY more than I meant to spend. We very strongly considered the Omaha due to the difference in price -- if we hadn't ever seen the Velo we probably would have gotten the Omaha and been perfectly happy -- in my opinion the Omaha is the right intersection between price, quality and weight.

2018 Velo -11 Wyoming Coach coach

Pros: The pop is great when you hit the sweet spot. It does weigh about 1 oz. heavier than advertised but is well balanced so most hitters won't notice vs. other bats. We did send our first one back due to the knob on the handle breaking off which was a first for us after going through 5+ bats each year. I'm sure it was just was just a weak spot during manufacturing so not to worried about it. The barrel of the bat has held up well. My son has hit with about 10 of the new USA bats and like this one the best. We have also noticed that when comparing composite vs. the A14 Alloy bats, the alloy bats have seemed to perform much better.

Cons: Like mentioned above, the knob on the handle broke of off on our first one. I hope this doesn't happen again. Other than that we have no complaints

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Rawlings VELO -11 USA Baseball Bat: US8V11? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

I'm looking at the Rawlings VELO and the Rawlings -11 that is $99. Can you tell me the difference between the two bats? Darryl
The 2018 Rawlings VELO -11 USA Baseball Bat: US8V11 and the 2018 Rawlings 5150 -11 USA Baseball Bat: US8511 are both one-piece alloy models featuring balanced swing weights. The VELO incorporates a composite end as well as acoustic alloy. These two differences, when compared to the plastic end cap and 5150 alloy, will give the VELO a more balanced swing weight as well as a more distinct sound on impact.
Cameron
What is the actual weight of this bat? I just returned a 5150 because it was 2 ounces over the stated weight. What 2 5/8 USA bat with the lightest/balanced feel do you recommend? joeybagadoughnuts
The 2018 Rawlings VELO -11 USA Baseball Bat: US8V11 will weigh about 1.5 ounces heavier than the listed weight. What we have seen that the composite models are more balanced and more true to weight. For example the 2018 Rawlings Quatro -10 USA Baseball Bat: US8Q10 comes in slightly better at 1.3 ounces heavier than listed weight.
Cameron
I am looking at buying either the 2018 Rawlings Velo US8V11 or US8V10. I am leaning towards lighter bat. what are proa and cons of each? JB
The only difference between the 2018 Rawlings VELO -11 USA Baseball Bat: US8V11 and the 2018 Rawlings VELO -10 USA Baseball Bat: US8V10 is going to be that one ounce difference. Whatever size the player is more comfortable with is going to be the better option.
Carter
Is this going be available in 27 inch? steven
Unfortunately the 2018 Rawlings VELO -11 USA Baseball Bat: US8V11 will not be available in a 27" size.
Carter
How can this be a hybrid one-piece bat? I thought hybrids had a composite handle and an aluminum barrel? Dan
The 2018 Rawlings VELO -11 USA Baseball Bat: US8V11 features a composite end cap, so the top roughly half inch of the bat is made out of composite. This is why Rawlings refers to the bat as a hybrid.
Jason
Why do I not see the 30" -11 listed on Rawlings actual site? thorsh
The 2018 Rawlings VELO -11 USA Baseball Bat: US8V11 is an exclusive bat for JustBats.com. You should not see it listed on any other sites including the Rawlings site.
Jason
What's the value of the composite end cap? Gerald
The composite end cap on the 2018 Rawlings VELO -11 USA Baseball Bat: US8V11 helps trim weight off the end of the bat to provide a more balanced swing weight.
Jason
Which USA bats are actually minus 10? whitey
The 2018 Rawlings VELO -11 USA Baseball Bat: US8V11 will weigh in about 1.5 ounces heavier than the listed weight. This is about average for the vast majority of the USA Bats on the market. As such, we would not anticipate any of the -10 models coming in at -10 (2.3 ounces heavier for the -10 VELO).
Cameron
Does the 5150 and Velo both have the same barrel size/length? Which one will have a bigger hitting area, or sweet spot? Zoey
The barrel size and length between the two are the same. The sweet spot and hitting area is the same as well due to the barrel length and diameter being the same.
Mick
What are the main differences between the 2018 Louisville Slugger Solo 618 -11 USA Baseball Bat: WTLUBS618B11 and the 2018 Rawlings VELO -11 USA Baseball Bat: US8V11? romo52
These two bats are very similar in that they are aluminum barrels, balanced swing weights, and USA certified. The Solo is going to be more traditionally stiff when compared to the barrel flex of the Rawlings Velo though.
Tyler
I read a review about the weight being off on the bat delivered to another customer's home. What is the policy for this? I will not purchase one if there is a no return policy. Gary
The 2018 Rawlings VELO -11 USA Baseball Bat: US8V11 will feature a static weight of roughly 1.5 ounce heavier than the listed weight. With the USA models, when looking at the alloy bats on the market, it is common to see these bats weighing 1.5-2.0 ounces more than listed weight. Any unused bat is capable of being sent back for an exchange or refund but there would be little difference from one bat to the next (most of these bats will be within +/- 0.1 ounces of each other). A used bat, if it became defective, could be sent back to Rawlings within 12 months of the purchase date for replacement.
Cameron
Are the barrel sizes the same on the -10 and -11 or do they shave barrel size to trim the ounce? looking fo light usa big barrell
The barrel size on both the 2018 Rawlings VELO -11 USA Baseball Bat: US8V11 and the 2018 Rawlings VELO -10 USA Baseball Bat: US8V10 will be 2 and 5/8 inch diameter.
Dan
I'm torn what to buy my son for his bat. He plays travel ball, is a bit smaller than most kids, and just turned 12. He is 4'5" and about 80 lbs. He has a 29-17 Easton MAKO thin barrel and I think he needs to move up a bit, plus we have to get a new USA bat. I was thinking 30/19 but big barrel will be new to him. The Louisville Slugger 618 seemed well rated (but is on back order), and now I see the VELO rated fairly highly. What would you recommend? Am I looking at right length for him? Need a bat fairly quickly. mark
The 2018 Rawlings VELO -11 USA Baseball Bat: US8V11 and the LS Solo 618 are similar bats in that they are both -11 length to weight ratio models, feature a balance swing weight and are constructed from one-piece all alloy with a composite end cap. Based on his current height and weight, a 29 inch model would be best. Since he is 12 you may want to consider moving up to a -10 model bat. Both bats are excellent models in my opinion and if you are needing something today then I would highly recommend the 2018 Rawlings VELO -11 USA Baseball Bat: US8V11 or 2018 Rawlings VELO -10 USA Baseball Bat: US8V10 if you go to a -10 bat.
Cameron
I saw a question posted here about differences in barrel size for the Velo -11 and -10. I think the question was trying to ask about the possible difference in the amount of max barrel size between the two bats. In other words, does the -11 have less max barrel size than the -10 due to it being a lighter bat? Greg
The 2018 Rawlings VELO -11 USA Baseball Bat: US8V11 will feature a slightly smaller sweet spot than the 2018 Rawlings VELO -10 USA Baseball Bat: US8V10 due to less materials to work with on the lighter bat.
Logan
I am trying to decide between the Rawlings VELO -11 and the Easton Beast X -10. My son is 8 years old, 4'8" and 70 lbs. He currently uses the Rawlings Prodigy. Which bat would you suggest? Angela Greene
The 2018 Rawlings VELO -11 USA Baseball Bat: US8V11 compares rather favorably to the Easton Beast X. The Velo offers precision laser pOp 2.0 to provide an increase in pop. It also has a comp-lite end cap, unlike the Beast X, to enhance the balance and overall swing speed of the bat.
Tyler
Does this Velo -11 weigh (actual weight) and swing the same as the Louisville Slugger Solo 618 -11? MI
The 2018 Rawlings VELO -11 USA Baseball Bat: US8V11 will weigh between 1-1.5oz heavier than the listed weight. This is very comparable to the Louisville Slugger's Solo 618. The swing weights will also be similar as the VELO offers a comp-lite end cap to increase the overall bat control and swing speed.
Tyler
My son will be 11 years old in April, is 4'5" tall and weighs 75 lbs. Not a strong hitter by any means. But based on this info, what size USA bat would be best to start with? Jeff
Based on your player's height and weight, I would suggest a 29" 2018 Rawlings VELO -11 USA Baseball Bat: US8V11.
Logan
My son is 10 years old, 4'5" and 95 lbs. Would this bat be okay for him? don
Based on your player's height and weight, I think he will be fine to use this 2018 Rawlings VELO -11 USA Baseball Bat (US8V11) in the 30"/19 oz size.

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
