Pros: Blown away by the quality of the cut, finish, grip, and performance. Bought 28" for my 9 year old. We have two dozen wood bats now but this one. This one is special. The one we received was as light as a metal bat, sweet spot on par or better than other $50-100 maple and ash bats he owns, but the lack of vibration from the cut and grip are superior. Best bat in my opinion for younger players due to quality, price, and performance.
Pros: light balanced feel. my 9yo loves the classic wood sound. good quility and pop. great for tee work, soft toss, and Bp. i would recommend tgis bat to all youth players working on getting stronger and improving bat speed.
Pros: The bat is well made and the ball jumps off of it. It’s my son’s first wood bat and was worried about the heavier weight than the metal one he uses. No issues at all and it actually helps that it is a little heavier. He actually received compliments about the bat from others in the cage.

We would like to purchase the y271 maple louisville slugger for our son for the rest of this year and next year. He is 10 now and weighs 100 lbs and is 60" tall. He currently is using an USA 30" 22 oz. bat. What size would you recommend that he would be able to use into next year?
Asked by Garlene
We would suggest going up to a 31" bat. He would need to choke up on the 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime Maple Wood Youth Baseball Bat: WTLWYM271B17G for the rest of this year, but with steady growth he should be set for next season as well.
My son has a Louisville Slugger Select 718 -10 USA baseball bat WTLUBS718B10, length 29 inches and 19 ounces. He is 54 inches tall and weighs 70 pounds. I want to get him a wood bat - what size do you recommend in this bat? Asking as with only a -5 drop on this wood bat I expect it may be heavy for him since it will be 24 ounces vs the 19 ounces he is use to.
Asked by JJ
Based on the player's height and weight, a 29 inch model of the 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime Maple Wood Youth Baseball Bat: WTLWYM271B17G would be our general recommendation. Since this bat weighs more than what the player has been using from a metal bat standpoint it may be wiser to drop down in length or go with the Louisville Slugger Select Maple Wood Youth Baseball Bat: WTLWYM243A1 as the length to weight ratio on this bat is more favorable for a youth player.
I am not positive how to choose bat size. Boy will be 9 end of Feb. and wants his first wood bat for spring Cal Ripken league. Always used Aluminum, last year used 28/29. Thin build but athletic. 4'-3" and 61 pounds now.

Is the lizard skin grip the same grip solid retail or a lower grade per say? Would rather buy the same bat with no grip and add one etc. if it isn't as nice.

The Lizard Skin grip featured on the 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime Maple Wood Youth Baseball Bat: WTLWYM271B17G would be the same grip you see in stores. The grip comes on the bat from Louisville Slugger, and is how we sell it, but you could certainly re-grip the bat if you wanted to.
