Pros:  The balance is incredible. I've never felt a more smooth feel, even when I get jammed. The lizard skin grip is awesome. I heard they fixed the twisting between the barrel and the handle. I haven't felt it yet after a couple of weeks.

Cons:  Zero. Zilch. Nada.

Pros:  Great Bat one of the best. I'm hitting the ball farther then ever with the same swing. Love this bat. Glad my dad pick this bat for me.

Cons:  I guess the price because my dad is still whinning about the price and said i better not strike out case the bat cost too much. Lol

Pros:  Out of the wrapper has better pop than the 917, a bit end loaded which is nice, and solid grip as always. Little to no vibration.

Cons:  Small sweet spot - must hit it right around the middle of the barrel. Hard to muscle out jam shots or hits off the end. the great pop makes up for it though, not even fully broken in and already warning track power going 75% in BP.

Pros:  Bat is good for about a month then the middle piece breaks and bat does not hit very well or with any pop. Flaw since they I bought the Prime 916. As far as I know they have not fixed the issue but just changed the paint job.

Cons:  Bat does not hold up, LS will not stand by their warranty. For a bat that cost this much this is crazy!

Pros:  Well balanced, great pop, very comfortable in hands at the plate. We've only owned the bat for a couple of weeks now but the ball flies off the bat in batting practice and in the cages.

Cons:  It doesn't stop my kid from taking a first pitch fastball! If only this bat could fix that.

My son is a lefty with power. He now uses the CAT 7 Connect. Why should I switch to the 918? Is it that much better?

There is not anything out there from a BBCOR perspective that has significantly more performance capabilities. Rather BBCOR bats are more about feel (balanced versus end-loaded) and vibration control (one-piece bats are stiffer and replicate wood better while two-piece bats give you more whip and reduce stinging from off-centered hits). The 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 is a well balanced bat offering a two-piece composite construction. If a player were to get jammed or hit a ball off the end cap they would feel little to no vibration. Whether or not to switch from the Marucci CAT 7 Connect would be strictly feel.

We are considering the Prime 918. Wondering what the differences are between it and Prime 917.

The only difference between the 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 and the 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9173 is the end cap design. With the Prime 918 an RTX end cap was created to give bat more balance.

The 2016 and 2017 916 and 917 were the subject of a lawsuit regarding the connection piece. How was that fixed for the 2018 918 model?

The 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 features the same TRU3 socket connection technology as the previous 916 and 917 models.

Does the new 918 have more pop then last year's 917? I am a power hitter so need that big bat.

Does the Prime 918 have a longer barrel then the Easton Mako Beast?

The 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat (WTLBBP918B3) and the 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB17MK) are going to have very similar barrel lengths and both have a diameter of 2 5/8". I don't think you will see a drastic sweet spot difference between the two bats.

The 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 is an excellent bat for all young adult players. My son is 13 and in the 7th grade. They want him to play up to the 8th grade and I am looking for the best bat I can get for him. Money is no worry but my worry is what size do I get him? He was using a youth 29 bat. What do you recommend and can you send me a link to the bat I should get so I can pick it up?

The 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 is an excellent two-piece composite model for someone needing to swing a BBCOR model. We are have seen a growing trend of middle school leagues going to the BBCOR standard, this is what all high school and college age players must use, but if one does not have to use BBCOR then the 2018 Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 -5 Senior League Baseball Bat: WTLSLO518B5 or 2018 DeMarini Voodoo -5 Senior League Baseball Bat: WTDXVB5 would be better. We would always recommend you check with local league officials to confirm any bat rule restrictions. As for size, this is determined more by a player's height and weight. To get a better gauge on proper length to use please use the bat coach feature located on the website.

My son is a 12 and he is 6'4" and weighs 275 lbs. He is switch hitter that simply obliterates the baseball, arguably hitting it harder than anyone in the game. He is pull focused, and gets away with it because of brute force. What size bat should he use?

For a player of his height and weight, as well as factoring in age, a 33 inch 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 should work well.

My son has always had Easton Mako but we are looking at this bat in drop 3 to use the next 3 years of high school. Trying to decide between it and the new Easton Ghost. Any recommendations?

Both the 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 and the 2018 Easton Ghost X BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB18GX are great options. Both will feature anti-vibration technology, composite materials, and balanced swing weights. It would be hard for me to recommend one over the other as each player has a different preference.

Dan Expert

My son is 15. He is 6’1” and 175 lbs. Last year he used a 917 32/29. He wants a 33/30, do you think the 918 will be comparable to the 917 being an inch longer and 1 oz. heavier? He tried a teammate's 918 32/29 and was swinging early. What are your thoughts?

Making the step to a BBCOR bat is always challenging. If he is swinging early with a 32"/29oz bat, a 33" may be the solution. It will slow down his swing speed a little bit until he gets adjusted to the weight. As far as the 917 and 918 go, they are very similar. The biggest difference between the two are the cosmetics. If your player likes the 917, he will also like the 918.

My son is 14 years old and he is 5’7” and 115 pounds. What size do you recommend for him to use well into high school?

I am interested in purchasing this bat. I have had the Prime 917 for the last year and a half and it treated me very well but it is beginning to sound dead. What are the differences between last year's Prime 917 and this year's Prime 918? Also, what is the average life span of these bats?

The 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3, when compared to the Prime 917, will have a newly designed end cap. This allows for a better overall balance and slightly larger sweet spot. As for the life span of this bat, or any other bat for that matter, it is impossible to say as there are too many differing variables from one player to the next.

Will high school baseball require the new USA marking on all BBCOR bats? Meaning that all other bats can not be used?

The 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 will not feature the USA Baseball marking. BBCOR bats, which are required at all high school and college levels, are not going through any changes. A bat with a USA Baseball stamp will be required in 2018 for organizations such as Little League, Dixie, Pony, Babe Ruth, Cal Ripken, Dizzy Dean and AABC.

My 2017 917 broke, how do I know this won't?

There is no way to say for sure that one would not run into a durability issue with the 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3. Vast majority of the time metal bats will experience a warranty issue within the 12 month manufacture's warranty period.

My son is 14 years ls 5'7 and 135 lbs. Looking to be informed on the differences of 1, 2 and 3 piece bats and how they related to hitters and swing types (flex, stiffness, etc...)?

Based upon your player's height and weight, I would make a general recommendation of looking for a BBCOR bat in the 31" length. The biggest difference that will exist between 1, 2 and 3 piece bats will be the feel at contact. A 1-piece bat will feature a really stiff feel when you make contact with a baseball. A 2-piece or 3-piece bat (like this 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3) will feature a considerable amount of flex when hitting a baseball (the flex feel between the 2 and 3-piece bat will be pretty much the same). Any type of hitter could use a 1, 2 or 3 piece bat; it will just come down to their personal preferences in a bat as there will be no inherent advantage to having one style over the other style.

My kid is currently using the LS Solo 617. Could be handle this bat? How important is the length of a bat play into height and weight? My son is in high school, short for his age, but required to use a -3 bat. Most bats in this category begin at 31".

Without knowing the players height and weight we cannot give a recommendation on what size he should be swinging. If he is looking for a very light bat I might recommend sticking with the 2018 Louisville Slugger Solo 618 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBS618B3 which is a very balanced bat and begins at 29".

My boy is 5'3" & 115 lbs and growing fast. Likely be 5'5" & 120 lbs + before spring. He is hitting a 32 Easton Z Core drop-3; 9 yrs of playing experience. He has hit & likes the LS 2018 model 918. What is your suggestion/advise?

If your player liked the LS Prime 918 from previous use then we would certainly recommend getting the 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3. This bat will offer more flex than the Easton Z-CORE.

What is the best bat right now? DeMarini? This bat? The CAT 7, the CAT 7 Connect? Or the Prime 917?

The 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 is a great bat to consider for someone seeking a composite bat with a balanced swing weight. With that said, there is not one BBCOR bat on the market that will significantly outperform the others as the testing standards are extremely high on these bats.

I'm looking to get the 918 Prime in BBCOR. Is there a performance difference between the 917 and 918?

It is our opinion that there will not be much, if any, performance difference between the 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 and the LS Prime 917. There is a new end cap design on the 918 which will slightly enhance the overall swing weight and balance of the bat.

Cameron Expert
140816 Click to show/hide answer

I have seen a few answers refer to the new end cap giving the bat a "longer barrel shape". What exactly does that mean? How much longer? Does this longer shape result in a larger sweet spot?

The end cap is more compact in the 918 and allows the barrel to extend more. The length is around .25 inch. This is also at the end which will not effect the play. The sweet spot will generally be the same. The main difference is the compact end cap.

Does the Prime 918 have a lighter swing weight than the 2018 CF Zen?

This 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat (WTLBBP918B3) and the 2018 CF Zen BBCOR (WTDXCBC) feature the same two-piece, all-composite build and are designed to be balanced in their swing feel. Overall, the feel between the bats should be very similar and I would have a hard time suggesting one over the other as the more balanced option.

Will there be other releases of the 918 in a 2 5/8 29 in.? I'm hoping for a -10 or -12? If so, when will these be released?

The 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 will only be featured in a BBCOR model. As for LS making the Prime 918 in smaller sizes, a -10 or -12, they should have the USA bat stamped models available come December of 2017. As for the sizes that will be offered, that is yet to be determined.

How does this bat compare to the 2018 Rawlings Quatro BBCOR?

Overall, this 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat (WTLBBP918B3) and the Rawlings Quatro bats are pretty similar. Both bats have a barrel and handle that are built of composite material in addition to a balanced swing feel. What is the difference in the sweet spot for the 2017 Prime 917 and the 2018 Prime 918? Is there genuine size increase or is it all hype?

Overall, I think the sweet spot sizes between this 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat (WTLBBP918B3) and the Prime 917 BBCOR should be pretty similar as both bats feature the same Microform Composite material. However, there is a chance that the Prime 918 may have a little larger sweet spot due to the bat featuring the new RTX End Cap that creates a longer barrel shape.

I'm 5'11'' and weigh 190 lbs. I usually bat 3 or 4 hole. Would you recommend this bat or the Easton MAKO BEAST?

It is really hard to say which bat I would recommend because both of these are great bats and it truly depends on what you are comfortable with in the box. Both the 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat and the 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST BBCOR Baseball Bat both have balanced swing feels and are both 2-piece composite designs.

So both of these bats are pretty similar. The 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat will be a 3-piece design that is fully composite and has a balanced swing weight. The 2017 DeMarini CF Insane End Load BBCOR Baseball Bat has a 2-piece fully composite design that has a balanced swing weight.

In 2018, what bat will be best designed for a power hitter who likes an end-loaded bat?

If you were looking for an end-loaded BBCOR bat in 2018, I might suggest looking to the end-loaded series of the Voodoo bat and CF bat that will be released from DeMarini this fall. The CF end-loaded model will have the similar two-piece, all-composite design like this 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat (WTLBBP918B3).

I am 5'9" 150 pounds and 13 years old. Both the Select 718 and the Prime 918 are good bats. Which one will give the most power?

It ultimately depends on what you are more comfortable with as a hitter. The 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 is more of a balanced bat and works best for a player wanting a lighter swinging bat. The Select 718 has a slightly end loaded swing weight and could potentially provide the most power if the player can swing it. The more mass you can put behind the ball the further it could potentially travel.

End Loaded? - You note a Balancing Weight score of 1.7. For a player who prefers an End Loaded bat (Demarini Voodoo), how does this correlate and compare?

The 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat (WTLBBP918B3) features a balanced design and would not be very comparable to the DeMarini Voodoo. If you were looking for a bat similar to the Voodoo I would recommend taking a look at the 2018 Louisville Slugger Select 718 BBCOR Baseball Bat (WTLBBS718B3) which is very comparable to the DeMarini VooDoo.

About Louisville Slugger
Louisville Slugger

Louisville Slugger is the Official Bat of Major League Baseball and the #1 name in baseball since the earliest days of the sport. Legend has it that Bud, a lover of baseball and a player himself, slipped away from work one afternoon in 1884 to watch Louisville's major league team, the Louisville Eclipse.
