Great 1 piece bat Dad parent

Pros: My son is 13. He says bat is very well balance and has great feel and pop right out of wrapper.. I can say must be true.. We purchased the bat for 13u travel next year to push him toward -5 from -10 weighted bat, as he prepares for High School in another year. It arrived 1 day before he left for Coopertown, New York 12U dreams park tournament. He decided to hit it once in cage there before game. He decided to swing it next game. First pitch and first swing with new bat in hand he hits a 3 run bomb way out.. Followed later by 2 more HR's and several solid base hits later in tournament..Proof enough for me.

Cons: Stated slight vibration if hit off end but not much...

2018 Louisvill Slugger Omaha 518-BBCOR Chris parent

Pros: I recently purchased this bat for my son age 11. Whom will be starting Middle School Ball. He weight of bat is an adjustment from the drop 10 he was use to. Bat is good for the money. Has a sweet spot which gives a nice bell sound. Only used approx. 1 month during fall league and doing batting practice about 3 times a week. Overall good bat.

Cons: When hit on handle and on very end no bounce for sure.

Great Bat Corey B parent

Pros: I bought this bat for my freshman son. He is getting bigger and needed something with some more weight. He played three games and every hit, but one went to the outfield. This has good pop out of the package. The weight distribution is good. Love the look of the bat.

Review Dillon player

Pros: Overall great bat, my college team gets all Louisville bats and I decided to swing this bat all season and I absolutely loved it. (Parents) You guys have to realize that you're not supposed hit the ball of the handle or bat cap, it hits like a wood bat. If your kid doesn't like the vibration teach them how to get the barrel out front or just get some bat speed.

Bat has big pop for small hitter Jeff Coach

Pros: My son is small and is going too middle school in a few months. They use a -3 bat, he has only swung -10 thru -13, so I thought this would be a real challenge for him. Went to cages in the 80 mph and after a few swings he was racking. I ask him how it felt and he said "better then my drop 10". From what I hav seen it is a very balanced bat and it makes it easier to bring through the hitting zone, it even has a graph on the side showing how balanced it is.

Cons: None so far

Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 Jarred Keith Player

Pros: I have had this bat for 3 and a half years and it was amazing (33/30). This bat has great pop, this is easily top 3 single pieces out there. And for people that says "It stings my hands" it's a single piece, you know just like wood is. If your looking for a great performing, durable, cheap bat this is the one.

Cons: End cap died after 3 and a half years ( practiced at least 4 days a week)

Have a question about the Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBO518B3? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Is the 518 with the new end-cap going to be as balanced as the 517 and 516? Dom
Due to the new end-cap, this 2018 Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 BBCOR Baseball Bat (WTLBBO518B3) should feature a slightly more balanced swing feel when compared to the Omaha 516 and Omaha 517.
Ben
What's the difference in the pop in this bat and the $400 one? Baseball Dude
The 2018 Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBO518B3 will compare favorably in terms of performance capabilities to the LS Prime 918. The main difference between these two bats is the lack of vibration reduction a player will get with the 2018 Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBO518B3 since it is a one-piece bat. With the Prime 918 being a two-piece bat it will be better equipped to reduce vibration from an off-centered hit due to the flex the bat will feature.
Cameron
I like the 2017 bat, but the 2018 looks very promising. Is there a difference that makes the 2018 an easy option to get over a $400 bat? log3og
This 2018 Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 BBCOR Baseball Bat (WTLBBO518B3) features a one-piece, all-alloy design to it. The alloy used on the bat is ST 7U1+ and that material is very high performing. Many college baseball players chose to go with the 2017 version of this Omaha 518 this past season over competing $400 bats.
Ben
Is there a major difference in pop between this 518 and the 517? johnny baseball
Any difference in performance between the 2018 Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBO518B3 and the 2017 would be minimal.
Cameron
Is there a major difference on the balance between the 518 and 618? Russ
There will be a slight difference with regards to the balance on the 2018 Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBO518B3 in comparison to the 618. How much so it really up to personal opinion.
Cameron
Does this bat meet the 2018 USA Bat standards? DWB
The 2018 Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBO518B3 does not meet the 2018 USA Bat standards, and does not feature the USA marking.
Logan
My son is 12 years old, 5'7", 145 lbs, has swung BBCOR before but now using it permanently. What length should he swing with the 2018 Omaha? Koacrush
Based on your players height and weight, we suggest a 32" model of the 2018 Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBO518B3.
Jason
Do you have to break this bat in? wheezer
The 2018 Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBO518B3 is an alloy bat, so it will not require any break in.
Logan
How do I customize this bat? Dominic Baseball
If seeking to get the 2018 Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBO518B3 customized one would need to use the LS custom bat builder.
Cameron
Will balls from the batting cages mess this bat up? nate
I would recommend against using this 2018 Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 BBCOR Baseball Bat (WTLBBO518B3) with the rubber, yellow balls that are sometimes used at batting cages. That type of ball is denser than a regular baseball and can damage the barrel walls of any type of baseball bat.
Ben
Is this bat a drop 3? cpg
The 2018 Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBO518B3 is a BBCOR model and thus a drop 3 length to weight ratio bat.
Cameron
My son Tre is 13 and 5'7" and 105 lbs. What should he swing? jason
Based on your son's height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2018 Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBO518B3 in a 29 inch model.
Cameron
My son is 13, has an early birthday will be going into high school next fall...He used the Marrucci CAT 7, 30 inch -5 last fall and spring/summer. Looking for a well balance -3 for him to start using since he will be required to use a -3 next year. Right now he is about 5'3" 100lbs and growing..Looking at either the Marrucci CAT 6 or the Omaha. Which bat would you suggest is best going to the -3 and what length? CARDSFAN51
It's difficult to say that one bat is better when comparing these two but I will say that the Marucci Cat 7 has an improved anti-vibration knob on the bat to eliminate sting if that's an issue. From a balance standpoint, both the 2018 Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBO518B3 and the Marucci CAT 6 BBCOR Baseball Bat: MCBC614 will be very balanced bats.
Dan
How well is this bat balanced compared to the Voodoo One and Rawling Velo? dan
All the bats mentioned will be very similar in balance. They all have an advanced end cap that improves balance and are all one piece alloy.
Mick
What does it mean when it says it has a balanced swing weight score of 2.3? I am looking for a balanced swing bat for my son. Most bats either say balance swing or weighted swing. I am not sure what the 2.3 score represents. Justin
Louisville Slugger assigns their own swing weight score to their bats to compare to other Slugger bats within the BBCOR line. The most balanced Louisville Slugger bat is the 2018 Louisville Slugger Solo 618 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBS618B3 (1.1), followed by the 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 (1.7), the 2018 Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBO518B3 (2.3), with the 2018 Louisville Slugger Select 718 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBS718B3 (3.0) being slightly end loaded.
Logan
My boy is 5'10" 185lbs and a freshman in high school. Is a 33 inch bat okay? Tata
I would recommend the 2018 Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBO518B3 in a 33 inch bat length for your player.
Dan
Is this bat USSSA approved? t
No, the 2018 Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBO518B3 is approved for BBCOR.
Tori
My son needs a -3 33' bat that is USSSA approved. He prefers Louisville Slugger, what do you recommend? wyatts bat
The 2018 Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBO518B3 will only be BBCOR certified and will not feature any other stamps (USSSA or USA). There are only a handful of USSSA models made in a 33 inch length and these bats will all weigh 28 ounces. There are no LS models available in a 33 inch 28 ounce but there is the 2018 DeMarini Voodoo -5 Senior League Baseball Bat: WTDXVB5.
Cameron
I was wondering if I can use a 33" in this model of bat? I am 6 foot, 177 pounds (in college). sam jacobson

Based on your player's specifications, I would recommend a 31" 28oz. size bat. If he likes the Omaha series already, I would certainly recommend the 2018 Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBO518B3. It now offers a 6-star premium performance end cap to further improve the balanced swing weight. Kyle J.
My son is 5"9 110lbs. What size would you recommend? Merik3
Based on your player's specifications, I would recommend the 30" 27oz. size of the 2018 Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBO518B3.
Tyler

Yes, the 2018 Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBO518B3 is going to be a -3.
Carter
What"s the differnece between the 518 Omaha and the 517 Omaha? Mike
The biggest difference is the new 6-Star Premium Performance End Cap that Louisville Slugger uses in the Omaha 518 to help improve the balance of the bat. However, they both use the same alloy and most other aspects of the design are similar.
Kyle J.
Is it approved for USSSA baseball? James
Yes, you can use BBCOR bats like the 2018 Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBO518B3 in USSSA baseball.
Carter
Is this bat more balanced or end loaded? papas
The 2018 Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBO518B3 features a Balanced Swing Weight.
Carter
Is it possible to get a size 31.5" or 32.5" in this bat? bennett
We do not carry this bat in those lengths. You could try contacting Louisville Slugger directly to see if they make it in that size.
Kyle J.
Is the Omaha 518 BBCOR better than the Rawlings 5150 BBCOR bat? El Gallo
Both bats are pretty solid one-piece, all alloy bats. I would probably lean slightly towards the Omaha 518 myself if I had to choose one, however. The Omaha has been a good performing, durable model from Louisville for many years now.
Kyle J.
Which is better: the 518 BBCOR or the Easton Beast x Speed BBCOR? jake aldridge
Based on the number and quality of reviews we have received, I would rank the Beast X Speed slightly ahead of this Omaha 518 in regard to bat performance.
Ben
How does the Omaha 518 BBCOR compare to the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 BBCOR Baseball Bat: MCBC7? Which would recommend for a 14yr. old, 6ft tall 165 lbs? He wants to keep bat speed. jc
The 2018 Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBO518B3, like the Cat 7, will be a one piece alloy bat. Both will provide a balanced swing weight to help generate bat speed. One thing in favor of the Omaha 518 is that the new end cap will further improve the balance of the bat.
Tyler
How would this compare to the 2018 DeMarini Voodoo One in terms of balance? Is one more balanced than the other? AJ
Both the 2018 Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBO518B3 and the DeMarini Voodoo ONE BBCOR bats are one-piece alloy models with balanced swing weights. The difference in the balance would be minimal and more personal preference.
Cameron
Why is this bat the least expensive out of the Louisville Slugger BBCOR? 2player2
The 2018 Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBO518B3 is a tradtional one-piece alloy model. This allows the bat to be sold at a lower cost because it is less expensive to manufacture. The other performance will be similar to other BBCOR models, but it may have more vibrations on contact because of the construction.
Tyler
How would you compare this bat to the 2018 5150? jessie
The 2018 Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBO518B3 and the 2018 Rawlings 5150 are be very similar in feel and performance. Both bats are balanced one-piece alloy bats.
Tori
I have a 516 Omaha currently and its taken a beating over the last few years and I'm looking at the 518. I am just wondering if the 518 is slightly more balanced than the 516 model? brendan 2002
The 2018 Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBO518B3 will feel more balanced than the 516 because of the new premium performance end cap.
Max
Would you recommend this bat or the Voodoo One in BBCOR? J
It is going to be more of personal preference when deciding on the 2018 Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBO518B3 and the Voodoo One because of BBCOR strict regulations that will make performance of the bats equal.
Max
Can you guys get a 33 in in this product please? Garrett
Unfortunately the 33 inch size of the 2018 Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBO518B3 is no longer in stock and with it being a closeout model we can no longer restock this item from LS.
Cameron
Is this bat eligible for high school baseball? Ken
The 2018 Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBO518B3 is BBCOR approved for high school baseball.
Logan
Is this bat for contact hitter or power hitter? Daniel
This bat is surely used by both types of hitters out there, although it is probably slightly more in tune with what a contact hitter might prefer in their bat since it has a well balanced, light swinging feel to it. But, its one-piece design is also typically preferred by power hitters as well.
Kyle J.
Can you please tell me the difference between the 518 and the new model the 519. Kirsten Willander
The main difference between the Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBO518B3 and the Louisville Slugger Omaha 519 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBO519B3 is the new vibex premium vibration damping handle construction that the new Omaha features. This will help reduce sting on the off-centered hits.

My son is 5’ and weighs 123 pounds. He’s been using a -10 big barrel and has made the junior high team this year. He’s tried some 31 inch bats in this model but his arms were tired and he had trouble controlling the bat. Would he be better off with a 30” or 29” in this model? Teresa
Based on his height and weight, I would normally recommend getting a 30'' in the 2018 Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBO518B3. However, since he he is already making the large jump from a -10 bat to a -3 bat, you may want to go with the 29'' instead.

When will the 32" Omaha be in stock? Eze
We will not be receiving anymore of these 2018 Omaha BBCOR models in stock since they are last year's model and have been discontinued by the manufacturer, Louisville Slugger.

Does the bat have and official USA Stamp on it Kaleb
The Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBO518B3 will not feature the USA stamp. However, the older divisions of league play will allow BBCOR certified bats. We always suggest confirming with a coach or league official on the approved certifications.

How does the Easton 2011, S3 compare to new one piece bats VELO, Omaha, and Beast? Will balance and sweet spot be similar to the newer bats if today? Q
The 2011 Easton S3 will compare very closely to newer one piece alloy models, such as the Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBO518B3. One piece alloy models have not altered from the style of the S3's with a one piece alloy being very balanced such as the Rawlings Velo. All one piece alloy models will be hot out of the wrapper just as the S3. If you are looking for a balanced, one piece alloy such as the S3 the Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBO518B3 would be a great option.

What size would you reccomend for a 10th grade boy who is 200 pounds and 6'1"? Carla
We would probably recommend a 33" or 34" size bat for someone with that height and weight, depending on player preference/strength.

My son plays D1 baseball in a major conference and had a great year last year playing with a Louisville Slugger 518 34 inch bat. He batted .364 and was 1st team all conference and first team All region. Unfortunately, the bat broke this fall. I know this is an older model, but do you have one I can buy? Richard Komistek

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
