Getting ready early for next spring (Cal Ripken) Steven coach

Pros: Looks good, feels good to swing.

Cons: The new USA bats are "dead" compared to BFP 1.15 bats, these new bats have no pop when compared to what the kids have been using for years. Looks to be about 20 feet less in batted ball distance.

Ghost X hype Jeff coach

Pros: Great balance No vibratation

Cons: No Pop. After a break in period of approximately 450 swings off the T, soft toss and live pitching, My son's average hits were landing mid outfield on a 200ft. field. Hitting 4 homers last spring with the Mako, this bat feels dead. I'm hoping that it just needs more swings. It did take a bit for his Mako to break in as well; so we're holding out hope that this wasn't a $350 mistake. If anything changes, I'll return to update our review.

USA Bats Have Less Pop BY DESIGN! ben coach

Pros: long barrel, more like real baseball now, everyone should know that USA bats are not going to hit balls as far as the 1.15 bats. there are many videos on youtube of guys running comparisons, and it is clear that the bats will have less pop, BUT THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO HAVE LESS POP. you did not get a defective USA bat, you got one that does exactly what it was designed to do. this information has been publicly available for a long time

Cons: price

Not worth the money Robert Ross coach

Pros: none

Cons: This easton bat with the new USA Basball standard is a joke. if i had to do it over I would not waste 10$ on this bat. If you see USA basball on any bat that means no pop. You might as well buy a wood bat it will have twice the pop. Way to ruin it for these kids USA basball forcing your hand taking away our choice to choose. Shame on all the leagues that signed onto this garbage.

Parent Steve parent

Pros: Looks and feels good to swing

Cons: Big strong kids (small % of youth) will still get extra base hits and homeruns, but with these USA bats having no pop they just took away the small/medium sized kids (vast majority of youth) their ability to get extra base hits, no pop = only singles for smaller kids. USA just widened the performance gap between big strong kids and small kids, not fair to smaller kids.

coach L.C. coach

Pros: It's no secret USA bats have less pop. Kids will now have to work on using good technique i.e. legs, core, etc. It's ridiculous to say new bats favor strong athletes and is unfair to smaller kids. Last year kids were hitting HRs that had terrible technique. They hacked at balls and balls would sail over fences. Now they will need to work on strength and technique, rather than rely on a bionic bat. Kids will now be rewarded for the 'right' reasons. Period. Welcome to real baseball.

Cons: Cost. Excessive.

Coach Coach coach

Pros: Well balanced. Decent grip. Swings well. These bats are performing exactly how they are supposed to, like WOOD bats. Instead of kids succeeding by how much their parents spend on a bat this really evens the playing field. This is one of the most expensive bats out there and it performs about the same as a 60 dollar bat. Sometimes less. It has a massive barrel but when you test it the sweet spot is about 1.5". Tested a bunch with the radar gun and Hit Trax. Not much difference between them. More of the performance deals with weight, balance, and the hitter.

Cons: Some of the alloy bats have a larger sweet spot by over an inch. If you tap the barrel with something harder you can hear the difference. On the few composite bats it is very pronounced. Alloy is a little tougher especially with some of the funky barrel profiles going to all 2 5/8. Unknown on the durability of this bat.

Hugely disappointing for the price Jim Bahr parent

Pros:

Cons: No pop. My son's baseball team had about 5 or 6 of them and we have all switched to new bats within a month or so. Very disappointed in this bat - especially considering the outrageous price. We had good success with Makos in the past - but very disappointed in Easton right now after this dud.

not durable Robert Hyde coach

Pros: nice balance

Cons: Our team of 13 players have gone through no less than 10 broken/cracked easton ghost bats. Some of the boys have had their first one replaced only to have the replacement bat crack also. very poor durability on these new easton usa bats. I had been a huge easton bat fan for years but no longer.

easton lost their way coach coach

Pros: good balance

Cons: these bats crack and break. not durable at all. our team went through about 8 broken bats this season. the durability is so bad that none of our kids are buying an easton again. these do have way less pop. i know they are designed this way based on the new USA standard but I mean they have less pop than other brands. we played in alot of tournaments that required usa bats and you could clearly see the difference in hitting of other teams that didnt use easton like we did. most of our boys ultimately switched to wood or alluminum.

Not Good Noah player

Pros: Good durability; can take a beating. Good overall feel, not to heavy. To hit solid/good hits you need to have spectacular form or be generally big/strong for your age.

Cons: Has no pop whatsoever, The sound is of it is pathetic, Gets dirty easily, and the grip is pretty bad.

With the new USA bat standards, are the 2 5/8 models legal in Little League sanctioned games? spotted rooster
Yes, under the new USA Baseball standards you are able to use a 2 1/4" or a 2 5/8" barrel diameter as long as it features the USA Baseball stamp. The 2018 Easton Ghost X -8 USA Baseball Bat (YBB18GX8) does feature the new USA Baseball stamp.
John
I know I can use this in Pony. Can i also use this for Travel Ball? nk
We have been told that USA Baseball certified bats will be allowed for USSSA travel baseball.
Kyle J.
My son is 5'3" 140 pounds. What size bat would you recommend? Big E
Based on your players height and weight, we suggest a 31" model in the 2018 Easton Ghost X -8 USA Baseball Bat: YBB18GX8.
Jason
Just unwrapped the new Ghost X USA bat -8. Looks like there are shiny decals at the end of the bat. Are they to be removed? Patrick
The shiny/glossy surface at the barrel-end of this 2018 Easton Ghost X -8 USA Baseball Bat (YBB18GX8) is not to be removed. That type of surface is intended to be present in that location on the bat.
Ben
My 12 yo son is 5"3 & 100lbs, what size bat do you recommend? steve
Based on your son's height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2018 Easton Ghost X -8 USA Baseball Bat: YBB18GX8 in a 31 inch model.
Cameron
I'm thirteen years old, 5'6", and about 120lbs. Would this bat be good for me? Or should I consider the -8 model? Baker15
The 2018 Easton Ghost X -8 USA Baseball Bat: YBB18GX8 is a -8 model, and at your age, you would want to swing either a -8 or -5 model to transition to the -3 BBCOR bats that are required in high school.
Logan
I am 13, weigh 90-95 lbs., and am about 5'2". What size bat should I get? JD1
Based on your height and weight we would recommend a 31"/23 ounce 2018 Easton Ghost X -8 USA Baseball Bat: YBB18GX8.
Carter
My son is 13 and 5"2' 125lbs. I'm wondering what bat drop would you guys recommend? I have been looking at the Ghost x -10 and -8. mike
I would recommend the 2018 Easton Ghost X -8 USA Baseball Bat: YBB18GX8 if your player is in 7th grade and a -5 if your player is in 8th grade. My recommendations vary from player to player but this will provide a smooth transition into the high school level.
Dan
My son age 12, and is 5'0" and 110 lbs. What size bat should he use? He's a good strong hitter. dmoney
Based on your players height and weight, we suggest a 30" model of the 2018 Easton Ghost X -8 USA Baseball Bat: YBB18GX8.
Jason
My son is 10, weighs 100 and is 5' 1". He is hitting well in the cages with a BBCOR 32" 29. What USA bat would you recommend? Thanks Nicky
The 2018 Easton Ghost X -8 USA Baseball Bat (YBB18GX8) is a USA certified bat with a slightly end loaded swing weight. You could also look into the 2018 Easton Beast X -8 USA Baseball Bat (YBB18BX8) which would provide a fully end loaded weight swing.
Tyler
My son is 12, he is 5'3 and 90 lbs. He uses a Mako -8. He needs to work his way down to a -3 for middle school ball (a year away). I was thinking about buying the Ghost -5 for spring ball. Wanted to get your advice? Blaine
Based on your sons height and weight we would recommend using the 2018 Easton Ghost X -5 USA Baseball Bat: YBB18GX5 in a 30"/25 ounce size in the Spring to ease into BBCOR baseball bats.
Carter
My grandson is 13 YO. 5'8" 138 lbs. High average power hitter. Used the Easton Combat 31" 21 oz last year. Would you recommend the Ghost drop 10 32" 22 oz or Ghost drop 8 32" 24 oz? Biggest concern is bat drag. Jeff
The drop 8 would be best for your player. In high school he will have to use a drop 3. To better prepare him for a drop 3, it would be best to have him adjust to a drop 8 now.
Mick
My son is in 6th grade and just turned 12 years old. He is 5'6" and 92 lbs. He is coming out of a 31"/20 oz sized Mako that started to seem an inch short at the end of the fall season. Starting next fall he will be training with the Middle School team and will need to use a drop 3. What should he use for his Cal Ripken leagues this coming spring and summer? Chris
Based upon your player's height and weight, I would make a general recommendation of getting this 2018 Easton Ghost X -8 USA Baseball Bat (YBB18GX8) in the 31"/23 oz size. However, if you feel that he is ready for the 32" length and can handle the 24 oz weight, you could certainly bump up and get the larger size.
Ben
Does it have the USABat stamp? I have been told that is now required. CJ's Dad
Yes, the 2018 Easton Ghost X -8 USA Baseball Bat (YBB18GX8) does have the USA stamp on it.
Mick
My son just turned 12, 6th grade and is 5'1" 105 pounds. He used a Easton Mako 30/18 last year in little league and is now going to a big barrel with the USA stamp rule change. He has 1 year left of little league and also plays elite AAU. I'm looking for the right size Ghost for his size? Thank you for your help. Tony D.
I would recommend going with a 31'' 21 oz in the 2018 Easton Ghost X -8 USA Baseball Bat: YBB18GX8.
Max
My son is 11 years old and will be playing for his middle school. He is 5'7" and weighs 150 lbs, so most youth bats are too small. Any suggestions? Jason Brown
I would recommend the 2018 Easton Ghost X -8 USA Baseball Bat: YBB18GX8 in a 32 inch length. Typically, I recommend 7th graders to swing a -8 and 8th graders to swing a -5. This will help create a smooth transition into -3 bats once the player gets to the high school level. Another Easton bat you could consider is the 2018 Easton Beast X -8 USA Baseball Bat: YBB18BX8. This bat features a -8 drop weight and is listed at a lower price.
Dan
I have a 13 year old son who is 6 ft 1 inch and 220 pounds. Last year he played six grade and had a 32 bat. Now in 7th grade needs a -8. Newer tournaments are requiring a USA label but others do not. Can you explain the main differences? What bat would you recommend? Tracey
AABC, Babe Ruth / Cal Ripken, Dixie, Little League, and PONY will all be affected by the USABat rule change, but USSSA will not. Currently, USSSA Baseball will allow the use of a bat that carries the new USABat stamp (as long as barrel diameter, drop weight, material specifications, etc. match the specific division's requirements). The 2018 Easton Ghost X -8 USA Baseball Bat: YBB18GX8 might be too short and light for your player. Some of the leagues allow the use of a BBCOR bat which features a -3 drop weight. I would recommend talking with a league/tournament official to see if he can swing a BBCOR bat because that will be of more benefit to your player. The 2018 Easton Ghost X BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB18GX would be a good option if you are approved.
Dan
My son is 12 he is 4"-9', about 80-85lbs, is playing USSSA this year, and will start middle school this fall. What size bat would you recommend for him he uses a 29-19 now. CM
Based on your sons height and weight I would recommend taking a look at the 2018 Easton Ghost X -10 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL18GX10 in the 30"/20 ounce size.
Carter
My son is 5 foot 2 weighs 115 pounds. He's a very strong 12 year old what size do you recommend and what is the difference between the performance of the ghost and the beast in the USA standard? Diesel
The biggest difference between the two bats is how they are constructed. The 2018 Easton Ghost X -8 USA Baseball Bat: YBB18GX8 features a two-piece, fully composite design while the 2018 Easton Beast X -8 USA Baseball Bat: YBB18BX8 features a one-piece, alloy design. It is hard to say that one bat performs greater than the other because every player is different. However, I will say that I have seen higher product reviews on the 2018 Easton Beast X -8 USA Baseball Bat: YBB18BX8.
Dan
Hey I was wondering which one is better the 2 3/4" barrel model or the 2 5/8" barrel model? jjoreo15
The 2018 Easton Ghost X -8 USA is only made in a 2 5/8" barrel model. The 2 3/4" barrel model is USSSA certified, not USA certified. In terms of performance, the 2 3/4" model will perform better because USSSA bats outperform USA models, however some leagues require USA bats in 2018, such as Little League sanctioned leagues.
Kyle J.
My 12 year old son's (5 foot 105 lbs.) Ghost X 30/22 just cracked. I need to replace it as LL All Stars is starting next week, also he is going to Cooperstown this July. I am debating between this bat and the USA Louisville 718, either a 31/21 or 30/25. Any suggestions? He swings a USSSA Louisville 918 30/22 for travel ball. Baseball Dad
Since your player has been using the 2018 Easton Ghost X -8 USA Baseball Bat: YBB18GX8, I would suggest going back with that if he liked the bat and had success. Changing to a -10 or -5 from a -8 would be better to do in the off-season and not right before some of the more important games of season.
